[Q] .mjpeg stream in ICS browser - General Questions and Answers

We have cameras at several locations that stream /video.mjpeg.
We can view the video stream with Chrome and Firefox on a PC, or with Safari on iPads and iPhones. Internet Explorer only displays the first full frame . . not the video.
We can't download the video as a file because its a live stream.
With Android on Tablets too, its seems to be a disadvantage for Android to have the only browser that can't play these video streams.
Is there a solution, like an alternative browser ?

Is there a way to get higher-resolution playback of BBC iPlayer video?

I own a TP2. There are four different ways (that I'm aware of) to get iPlayer material playing on this phone:
1) Change the User Agent string in Opera 9.5 to impersonate a Samsung Omnia. You can then visit the mobile version of the iPlayer website and stream material. It plays in the Streaming Media player. Resolution is roughly 320x176. Doesn't work over 3G unless you're with 3 or Vodafone.
2) For programmes that have a "download for mobile device" option on the main iPlayer site (browsed from a desktop PC) you can grab the resulting .wmv file, copy it across to the phone, and play it on the TP2's "Pocket" Media Player. Resolution is 320x176 (ish).
3) There is a stand-alone iPlayer app, which imitates an iPhone; however, it doesn't work on my TP2 (just crashes before you can access anything).
4) The "myplayer" app. This offers two options: stream at 320x176, or (sometimes) download in .mov format. The latter has a slightly higher resolution - something like 480x270. The .mov files can be played back fairly well using Coreplayer, I believe, but I'm too cheap to pay for Coreplayer. Using TCPMP it's a bit jerky, and playing full-screen even more so. Does work over 3G although your carrier will hate you if you try it.
Now, using HTCAlbum as a player, the TP2 can very comfortably handle an .mp4 file with a res of 800x480, and a bit-rate of 750kb/s. So what I'm wondering is if there's any other way of getting iPlayer material to play which offers a higher resolution and better video quality?
The "iPlayer Desktop" downloads appear to be in .mp4 format, but no player other than iPlayer Desktop seems to be able to make head or tail of them.
IPlayer does offer higher-res .wmv downloads of some programmes - these have a res of something like 720x540, but are recorded anamorphically (so they play back at 960x540 or so, with horizontal upscaling). Trying to play one of these on a TP2 (using Windows Media Player) is fairly painful - the bit-rate is too high for it handle, and it doesn't recognise that it's anamorphic, so the aspect ratio is wrong. Feeding one of these WMV's through the Encoder programme that I normally use for converting video to HTCAlbum-compliant .mp4 files produces sparkly gibberish - the WMV is obviously encrypted in a way the Encoder application can't detect or handle.
Are there any other options I'm missing?

DLNA Streaming from IE 10 (Surface)?

Hello,
I got my surface on launch day and I love how easy the DLNA streaming implemented I can even stream skype to to my TV during video calls. However, seems there's no way to stream videos (I think streaming photos works) from IE10 to other devices? Does anyone have a solution? If not, is there any app that I can "share" the video (mainly from Youtube) on the IE to so that I can stream it to my TV from the app?
Thanks!

What is the best (fastest) video streaming app? (similar to iOS AirVideo)

What's the best, fastest, video streaming app for Android? (using it on a local 802.11ac network)
I'm using ES File Explorer to browse my SMB network shares and after selecting a video, and using MX Player, it takes several seconds to start and then if I skip around in the video it also takes several seconds.
On iOS there was an application called Air Video that streamed videos (lossless, if the device supported the video format) and it was incredibly fast. After selecting a video, playback would start almost instantly.
I've tried using Emit (but had bugs, crashed alot, etc), ES Player + MX Player, BubbleUPNP + MX Player, and most of them are very slow.
Are there any other options?
DicePlayer!
Hi...
You should try DicePlayer, you could add Samba server(s) and it's working great with both Linux (Ubuntu at least) and Windows (7,8).
If your hardware support the format and definition of the video you want to play it's start almost instantly.
Hope I helped you.

asf stream video programs out there yet?

I have a linksys webcam that streams its output in a .asf link, however I have yet to find an android program out there that will stream the video. a few browsers like chrome and firefox will start to download the .asf file but does so in an endless cycle until it crashes or chops of a segment of time, which can be played back by a few video players ive found, however no player i have found is able to directly fead from it, so there is no real time viewing of the fead.
anyone know off hand of an .asf steam capable video player that works on the xoom? id love to use it to watch my webcams instead of using vlc on my desktop which is half way across the room where i usually sit and surf on the tablet.
thanks all!
