Hi, I Want To Root My HTC Desire S And The HBOOT Is 2.00.0002, And I Was Going To Use Revolutionary. And There It Says I Need 1.98.0000 Or 1.98.0002.
Someone Know What I Can Do?
Can I Downgrade It?

Ok, Can U Send Me A Link?

Search the general section for "downgrade" thread title, the two with the most posts are the one's you are looking for.
Make a goldcard for the hell of it (can't hurt).
Get shell/temp root.
Change misc version.
Install 0.98 RUU.
Use revolutionary.

There are two threads in the index see link in my signature

Advantages of HBOOT upgrade

Hi,
I rooted my phone after a downgrade recently. I have a few questions
1) What are the advantages of upgrading the hboot from 0.98.2000(unlocked via revolutionary) to 2.00.2002 using this?
2) What are the advantages of upgrading to the latest radio? I am referring to this one? is it recommended to do so?
I would not recommend upgrading to a higher h-boot. It will just make life difficult, if anything. Also, I would only upgrade the radio if you're experiencing any signal issues our anything. Otherwise you won't notice a difference.
You might want to look into an eng-hboot though. It can be overwritten for warranty purposes

Under what situations should we consider to upgrade to eng-hboot?
Swyped from a primed Desire S
Well if something were to go wrong with the phone, you could flash a RUU and it would overwrite the H-BOOT to a stock one. So it's good for warranty purposes. There are also other advantages to it, can't remember off the top of my head though.
It's not necessary to have, but I think it's nice to have. Don't forget though, there are risks with flashing a H-BOOT.
Risks would mean bricking I suppose...
So from what I understand
1. Upgrading to stock hboot is never recommended
2. We could upgrade to eng hboot, which will have an advantage in case of warranty issues, but rings the risk of bricking.
My warranty expires in May this year.
I will look up for more advantages of an eng hboot.

Yes, but many have done it, including myself. I wouldn't say upgrading h-boot is never recommended, just not on this device. With some devices there are advantages.
The process of flashing the H-BOOT is fairly simple and it's just your usual risks that you get when you're doing anything to your phone.
But like i said before, it's not absolutely necessary to have.

Are you S-off via xtc clip or revolutionary?
it's there any differences to upgrading to eng hboot between both the processes?
Appreciate if you could guide me to some links you referred to..

I'm an AlphaRevX man. Old version of revolutionary. I used this guide to flash mine
Murchelago said:
You can use this method via adb:
1. Put the hboot.img you want to flash in the root of the sdcard.
2. In cmd run the following commands (after each command press enter):
adb devices
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 of=/sdcard/backup.img
dd if=/sdcard/hboot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
reboot bootloader

The new hboot has a new partition system... But its no use to us, as our ROMs aren't taking advantage of it yet.

Oly, what h-boot are you on?
Whats ur current ROM?
After going through various threads I am thinking of flashing end-hboot version 0.98.2000 as the 2.0 version wastes 150 MB of space....

I would agree that is the better option.
even though I'm not on it myself. I have also been waiting for a ROM that takes advantage of new hboot partition layout for months now

I'm on 6.98xxxxx revolutionary I think....
Mine came with 0.98.2000 and I unlocked with AlphaRevX.
I'm using Endymion.
@Ben, Maybe the ICS update will take advantage of the new partition?

Ah ok are you S-ON with hboot 1.27? If so Have a look at this thread.
They are developing ways of getting devices that have hboot 1.27 and S-ON converted to S-off.
They may be able to help.

PS i need new radio for this hboot?
Your S-ON. It says this in a thousand places, you will need to wait for Revolutionary to release their tool for 1.27.0000 devices.
Why won't people read? It says this in at least a thousand places. Just clutters up the Q&A Section.

You can flash any zip, because you are SuperCID'd. I recommend using 3.32 Unlocked in HTC Part 1.

[Question] Best way to downgrade Hboot now that we have s-off?

any tip, help would be apreciated.
im a old semi-dev (like semi-god lol just a joke) but mostly for samsung and motorola devices.
this is mmm, lets say my semi first HTC device, i briked accidentaly a HTC Sensation 4g, resiving an ota, i forget to change my cid.
There is no best way, there are many ways.
If you are s-off, just run a ruu of your choice with the hboot you want.
Check what cid you need for the ruu (HTC__xxx) (because a ruu will still do checks). I prefer a og HTCcid over supercid anyday, you have experienced that already.
cid is now easy to change with a fastboot command (or leave the supercid).

Its a bit slower going into bootloader or recovery its not much so up to if you want to upgrade also a newer one don't have the loading bar.
Run the RUU
Safest way to downgrade your hboot to 1.06 is to install the shipped rom RUU_Ville_U_HTC_Europe_1.53.401.2_Radio_0.15.31501S.19_10.12.31501S.06L_release_251412_signed.exe

Updates to piss us off before S-Off lol. I just don't see the point in doing this with S-Off, if we didn't then ya downgrading was good but now to me its bad.

ENG HBoot 1.09.2006 (Engineer HBoot)

I know the ENG HBoot 1.09.2006 was out there for a little while when trying to get S-OFF for our phone but since then the link has now died so I'm putting out this request for someone who has it (theres a few of you out there) to share it to us all in here...
wrong section?
I believe he is trying to get it from someone, then he will put it in the first post along with instructions and the like. Instead of making 2 threads. Plus, devs will probably see this a hell of a lot sooner than if it was in Q&A.

If you don't know what it is, don't worry about it. It allows some extra commands in fastboot, I believe.

IIRC the only people with ENG HBoots were those that had factory S-OFF devices. Pretty sure there are partition dumps containing them somewhere in the S-OFF thread.

I seriously hope this is it... I just spent about 15 scouring the old S-OFF thread and found this link to a dropbox folder with a bunch of old dumps of S-OFFed devices way back when, I believe the one in the EVITA S-OFF folder is the ENG hboot one although tbh I have no idea which one of the partitions on our phone holds the hboot. Hope this sorta helps..

An eng hboot is pointless to a regular user, all it has is extra fast boot commands
Slithered from my HTC One X+
Here is my archive of all the documents and s-off information for when I was working on the XL. I am currently busy so you'll have to check through the folder and see if any of the s-off partition folders have eng hboot. I know I had it at one point but don't remember if I put it in my archive. Let me know if you don't find it and I'll search for it later on through the rest of my files.
