are you able to flash the att's gingerbread leaks with boot loaders and use a roger's APN to connect to roger's network?
edit: if you're trying to get rid of rainbow screen, you can also try flashing entropy's dd kernel.

[Q] Gingerbread Bootloader

I have just flashed GR-11 on my Cappy and I have some questions.
GR-11 and Continuum have different instructions and ways on how to update the BootLoader. Do they end up with the same end product?
So does following the guide for GR-11 allows me to flash Continuum without having to go back to stock? or do I have to go back to stock before flashing Continuum (re-update bootloader)
Side questions, could you use Froyo Rom after updating the BootLoader?
Thanx
If you have the JVB bootloaders already installed you can change to another JVB rom without reinstalling bootloaders. A couple of people in GR11 thread have reported going from C5 to GR11 with no issues. You cannot however run a froyo rom on these. You must flash back to stock to get correct bootloaders.
Yes you can.. I had absolutely no problem running stock 2.1 or serendipity 6.4 with the new bootloaders.
Just make sure the rom you're flashing doesn't include an sbl.bin (like cognition does) or you risk hard bricking your device.

I stand corrected.
hard brick = dead even with jig?
or recoverable with jig?
oh and how do I know whether a rom has sbl.bin inside or not?
and I did post this on GR-11, but I thought I might ask here as well,
does changing the kernel on GR-11 from the instruction to Talon matters?
file system wise it doesn't change right?

It's not even a question of risk. it's a GUARANTEE if it contains a froyo sbl.bin while you're on a gb boot.bin you will brick it. For good. dead. No life. A shell if it's former glory. A corpse... I think I made my point
look in the updates folder if the rom zip you wanna flash, if it had an sbl.bin delete it.
if you wanna flash talon just pop it in the pda slot of odin and flash like the instructions say, if you look in the .tar you will see it only contains a zImage which is the kernel.

Hard brick as in the hardware buttons or jig won't do anything. It'll just sit at a black screen until you mail it to Samsung for repairs.
You can check to see if a rom contains bootloaders by opening the zip archive. There will normally be three folders, META-INF, system, and a third one usually (but not always) called updates. Look into that last one. If it contains either boot.bin, sbl.bin or both, you might want to take a pass on that rom.

Need to update the update script if you're going to delete things from the package..
So to be safe, just stay in Gingerbread and nothing should go wrong right?
Flashing kernel and other roms should be safe as long as they are meant for Gingerbread then I conclude?
Thanx!
Once you have the boatloader installed you should be ok. Flashing between Roms should be ok if its compatible with the kernel as long the Roms are based off the gingerbread boatloader

Do I have to flash the GB Bootloader if I want to go up to a JW1 2.3.6 rom from a JVP 2.3.4 rom?
Edit: Guess I got lucky. I tried and it worked.
Your already on GB BL so no

[REQUEST] Boot.bin & Sbl.bin Files

Does anyone happen to have the correct boot.bin and sbl.bin for the Galaxy S 4G? I'd love to have them if so and I know some of the DEV's here most likely have an ODIN package with them. I promise I would search for them but we all know that it's impossible to know what's in the ODIN package without downloading then looking inside it, or someone stating what's in it. I'm looking for good files to flash after JTAG sessions on the Galaxy S 4G.
Thanks!
this is from KC1, but should still work.

Wow this may be a huge help. Ok I've seen it said both ways but do you have a T959V pit? I'm going to be using heimdall and would like to use these but as you probably know the pit is required to repartition. I'm working with a T959V that I jtagged back to life but had previously been flashed with T959 firmware and surprisingly that has the partitioning all haywire.
Ok I confirmed that those are the correct boot.bin and sbl.bin files. Now I think if I could get a hold of a decent pit file I may could get this up and running.
the only one I have is a bad on. LOL
BUT, I know there is a way to make one from the phone. I'll have to look to see how the SK4G guys did it.
They are probably just dumping the bml partition that stores the pit. Thanks for the info though so far!
Alrighty I successfully produced my own PIT file and hex edited to ensure it was about the same as a typical one as there is a lot of extra gobble that must be removed with a hex editor from the dump file. I loaded it up into ODIN and flashed some old KC1 firmware and bam! Back up and running with correct partitioning!
Do you think you could make us a working .pit from it?

Said and done. It worked beautifully on the customer's SGS4G that I hard de-bricked and should for any DEV or enthusiast if needed. Remember, there is no need to use a PIT file unless you are having partitioning problems.

Never mind. KD1's tar.md5 file doesn't have sbl or boot.bin
I'll have to pull down KC1 and KB5

Works for me, I have my backup, no way here at work to extract anything from them, so just pushing the system.img file up...
It's already uploading, so I'll let it go, if it turns out it's of any use, and needed I'll make it available.
Well, crap. I don't have KB5 or KC1 here on my work PC. So...I'll have to see what I have at home.
If someone else gets it up here, go for it....
ty for the replys ya the boot and sbl files deffently and or a full backup of a stock rom thats kd 1 that includes those files

I'll be the first to say "this won't flash". Because it won't. Unfortunately, you cannot dump modems from CDMA devices - period. Unless you have a shiny new method, in which case, please post it.

[Q] SGH-T959V: ODIN Will Not Flash to Stock

Hi All,
I am attempting to flash my phone to stock after a bad flash.
I am using Odin 1.85 with the following files:
- PIT: s1_odin_20100512.pit
- PDA: T959UVJFD - PASS - Causes Vibrant Logo boot loop
- PDA: T959VKB5 - FAIL - Causes the following log:
<ID:0/004> Odin v.3 engine (ID:4)..
<ID:0/004> File analysis..
<ID:0/004> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/004> Initialzation..
<ID:0/004> Set PIT file..
<ID:0/004> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
<ID:0/004> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/004> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/004> factoryfs.rfs
<ID:0/004> cache.rfs
<ID:0/004>
<ID:0/004> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
Am I using the correct files, or am I missing something here? This has been driving me nuts and it is very hard to find the files among so many dead links! If anyone has had a similar experience, or can point me to a forum post I have not yet seen, I would greatly appreciate it. I have been back and forth with this for days and still have a looping boot process and the option of Download Mode.
Thanks!
If you want stock follow the second link in my signature. Read the notes and guide carefully and you will have stock.
You might be bricked.
You flashed a vibrant rom.
This is the Galaxy S 4g not a vibrant.

Have faith. My first flash with this was also a vibrant ROM. I was able to recover. Where you on Gingerbread or Froyo before?
If froyo flash this

YOU, my friend, are a lifesaver! Flashing Bootloaders with the One-Click worked like a charm! I will be tucking this JAR file away someplace safe immediately
Very nice to know that this is the SGS4G and NOT the Vibrant! Was stuck on 2.2.1 FW with stock rom, which led me to believe i had the vibrant, but now i have 2.3.6 and couldn't be happier!
Thanks again!
wait until ICS!

I only wrote the guide. Bhundven is the one to thank.
this has happened to me b4, try force rebooting it and you should see something like incomplete update (...or something like that, was a long time ago) and then try plugging it into your computer and try it again (will automatically b in an alternative download mode) ... just maybe this time b4 flashing try rebooting your computer as well (odin sometimes leaves some processes running for some reason...)
P.S. make sure all drivers r installed properly and in my experience 1-Click Gremlin Remover is the safest/easiest to flash with..
Good Luck!
EDIT: Sorry, just sorta skimmed the page.. didn't realize it was already fixed
The link for the GB just links back to this page?

If Odin hasn't worked for you, try following lumin's guide for using Heimdall. he provides pictures and lots of details so it's easy to follow.

I wonder which version he's trying to flash. But, yes, switch to heimdall. Use a different usb port for it. The drivers for odin & heimdall clash.

Sir Succeed But I Have 1Problem. I cant use my phone anymore because of my battery i cant open my T959V Without Charging...
When I Unplugged My Charger. Phone would turn off when i press the power button to open. But phone should'nt open... But When I Plugged the charger my phone will turn on but when i unplug again the phone would turn off automatically...
How to fix my prob? Someone's Help Me Please
Sounds like it's time for a new battery. Is the old one swollen? A quick test is to place it on something flat (like a table) and see if it spins easy.
But my battery is spinning harder.. It is possible my problem is about the OS?
