MDA compact II Games

Hi guys,
(I have searched for this and similar topics so my apologies if I'm duplicating)
Bought my Compact about a month ago with T-mobile UK and am only just opening my eyes to its possibilities!
Thanks for all the information on web n walk etc.... i'll be signing up tomorrow!
I have just been on pocketgear.com and have seen all the games a pocket PC can use..... so I downloaded a trial version of a poker game (as is fashionable these days it seems!), but once transferred to my phone it wouldn't work.
Got the error message '[game] is not a valid pocket PC application'
So I tried Bookworm... and got the same message.
Am I doing something wrong, or is it because I downloaded it from an American Website to an English phone?
Any (and I do mean any) help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I haven't tweaked my phone in any way or improved it at all, so any further hints and tips would be appreciated too!
Cheers
J
When you DL software for your device, make sure that you DL software that is designed for your device. If you DL Pocket PC 2003 Software, and you are using a Windows Mobile 5.0 device, the software may NOT work on your device - also, if you are using a older device, you need to be aware that some software is designed for certain types of processors - so if you are using a PDA with an ARM processor, you have to DL software that will run on an ARM processor - not software that is designed for a MIPS processor. The newest devices all use the same processor (as far as I know) - but if you DL older software to run on the newer device, you will have to use software that was originally designed for anARM procesor. This may seem a little complicated, but the best way to find out how this works, is to go to a software distro site (like Handango), and download the different versions of the same software, and then install them. Hope that helps!

Well, I think it is just plain bad luck. I've downloaded and install.. quite a large amount of software/games to test on my MDACompact2 and most of the software that said to be meant for WinCE, WM2003, SE, etc works well with WM5. I can say, in my experience, the chances of getting one not working in WM5 is like. 20% or less. So, keep trying
Hi onemanfloats!
Did you download an exe file an copied it directly to the device?
If the download is an exe that means it is an installer and needs to be run on you PC while the device is synchronized. Most PPC programs are distributed this way.
Also programs for PPC some times come as cab files. Those you have to copy to your device and tap on them in the explorer so they will install.
As for processor type - don't worry, all devices sold today come with ARM, or ARM compatible (like OMAP) processors, and most of the new software supports only that type.
As for OS, I'm not sure if your device is running Windows Mobile 5 or Windows Mobile 2003, but as far as games and ordinary programs go, if it works on 2003 it usually works on 5 (2005).
The only problem is with some utilities which are very OS dependent.
Finally let me recommend you this site:
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com
Tons of free stuff for you device.
Good luck.
ms should make pda's error msg
tell the user that it's a pc application they are trying to
run on the pda
tons of ppl get confused but this
The "not designed for" message on WM2003 only meant that the application perhaps didn't support screen rotation, and other resolutions than 240x320
It's a bit off topic, but the warning "This program may not display correctly..." pops up on every program whose installation cab supports OS lower the 4.21 (that's WM 2003se in plain English ).
According to MSDN that's because the OS assumes the program inside can't support VGA, screen rotation and square.
It's pretty stupid design since a lot of programs try to be backwards compatible, at least to WM 2003, and the message just scares users.
It's a good thing they got rid of it in WM5.
cheers guys,
just got back from a tiring weekend in snowdon and read your replies.
Will digest in the morning and see what I can do!
Thanks again for your help!

converting F1 domark 1996 classic game to winmobile format

like we ported doom to winmobile can we port an f1 car racing game to htc touch or wm6
it is a 2 mb game with dll and exe's but is there any way i could get to run it on win mobile ,i tried msdos for win mobile but it just does not run that ,i have played it in win 95 ,98,xp,vista , so now i wanted to play here on wm6. actually its my first pc game on win 95 nov-1996 which i played alot ,brings back my first memories of win 95 gaming.
although invaluable to some but i still like to remeber it from the time of doom.i guess you'll need source code of this but i am posting this small zip i have of it ,just need to click f1. to play and setup to setup keyboard and joystick ,question is how to port and experts if you find a way to convert it to this platform plz post the resultant file here in this thread. i hope i am not anooying anyone by posting it for some solution here.you have to right click F1 and under properties click run in win 98 mode i guess also .

from iphone to windows mobile (games)

hi all
i have a cuestion for you all cause i searched , but i didnĀ“t find anything. Some time ago ,I red something in a forum that told me , the way to make a game for iphone working on Windows mobile ( i saw it in the official microsoft page) well i wanted to know if anyone has tried to do it?? because we all know that the iphone games are 10 000 000 better than the ones for windows mobile
thanks all see ya
come on guys , speak to me
the end user can't do that ms gave a guide how the developer who had
the sourcecode of his game could port it to wm
if you seriously want the games it's faster for you to get an iPod Touch, or of course the iPhone
i think that you dont understand me ... i dont want the iphone cause its one big **** , i want its games cause they are the best... rudegar thanks for the explication
therefore windows mobile must support multitouch first. now i don't see a comfortable way to control the game, unless it was a very simple game like teeter or patience etc.
well .. there are a lot of games available for wm like guitar hero , that need a multitouch display, too but you can play quite well without the multitouch screen , besides something is a lot better than nothing and the difference is that my diamond has a hardware keys that could sustitute the software keys on the display of the iphone therefor could be even better see ya

Can you help me change things?

This is more like a cry for help rather than a question and I believe this is the best place I could go to get the help I am asking for OK so here we go:
I have a HP TX2Z TouchSmart PC and I have just started this forum http://touchswipe.com now here is the problem there is almost no touchscreen apps or games for the windows touch screen PC and I know in Jan when Apple comes out with their tablet they will be porting their some odd million games and apps for the Iphone over to it . So here comes my question/call for help.
Can someone here or a team of people somehow port the windows mobile games and apps to the windows PC OS like vista/7 or even create a windows mobile apps and games converter that makes them from .cab to .exe and it installs it like a regular windows 7/Vista app or game.
This is huge and it is something that thousands of people have been praying for ever since the Tablet PC made an appearance. I know you'll probably just laugh at me for asking this but I hope with all I am that someone is there who can make this a reality because there is so much that would be able to be done with the touch PC if it could utilize winmobile stuff like point UI for 1 small example.
Thank you for your consideration and patience
Adam

[Q] Surface RT Help

Hey I'm new here and I have been following the hacking forums for the Windows Surface RT, I have some questions I need to ask the dev guys but have to post 10x before I can ask on the discussion.
1. The ClassicStartMenu tool is amazing, but seems to be stuck on the old looking Windows 98 menu style (After uninstalling and reinstalling, I cannot switch to the Windows XP or the Windows 7 style. Thank you so much for the program and help.
2. Quake is badass on a Surface, the original version plays flawlessly, but I cannot run Quake 2, says there are missing files.
3. CrystalBoy emulator is completely not working, it cannot load any roms, just has a red X across the screen.
Well that's all I'm needing help on thus far, keep up the great work you guy,s even if these problems cannot be fixed I am a huge fan.
