[Q] From Alpharevx to HTCDEV? - HTC Desire S

I was with cyanogen mod 7.2 RC and ext4 for recovery and I wanted to test cyanogen 9 (Now on cyanogen 9 thread it is writen need a device htcdev Unlocked)
My device was Soff with revolutionary alpharevx....
I try HTCDEV unlock impossible (no token with the oem command)
So i read many pages on this desire S forum to downgrad boot ect...
I use DD command to flash eng HBOOT 0.98.0000
Now on my device start i have:
Saga PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.98.0000
RADIO-3822.10.08.04_M
eMMMC-boot
(no eng :/ but 0.98 boot)
My recovery do not works anymore but my phone is not bricked i can fastboot but not adb
I can't download on filefactory (no more free slot) other RUU but I have EUR RUU 2.10.401.9 but it refuse to install (bad Id ... something like that)
i try to flash the recovery from the RUU rom.zip but he refuses: remote signature verify fail.
Do i need another RUU my GOAL is to S-OFF with HTCDEV to have cyanogenmod rom (7.2 and 9?) works.
What file i need to flash (flashboot sd card) ?
Plz help me i am really getting lost.

I'm quite confused. You wanted to switch ROMs, so where did HTC-DEV come into it?
Sent from my Desire S using Tapatalk 2 Beta-4

prerequise for this rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429215
is : HTCdev unlocked devices only: Flash boot.img via fastboot

Sorry for answering in french.

Yeah you screwed up badly. The guide doesn't say you need it, its saying if you are HTCdev unlocked you need to flash the boot.img. if you are soff all you do is flash the ROM.
Rather install a 0.98 hboot RUU so you can s-off again afterwards.....
Should have asked or done some more research before acting...
Wait for a free slot.

HTCDEV is strongly discouraged. If you didn't have USB debugging on, I see no reason why ADB should work.
Calm down. Set the phone aside for a day. Rather than making posts, read through relevant posts and use the search button as often as you get the urge. Remember, Google search is as well your friend.

I can see how a non English speaker could have easily miss understood those instructions though, so I've suggested that nexx change the wording so that no one else makes the same mistake

[PROBLEM FLASH ROM] Device booting with htc white screen with green logo

Hi all,
I have a sensation for about 6 months.
But I wanted to change rom.
days ago I learned that ICS could be mounted on sensation.
I tried to install the RUU unofficial but without success.
unlock the bottloader via htcdev .
I managed to install the recovery.
following the various threads I have installed firmware and radio recommended for ics. after using superwipe
I installed the rom revolution hd 6.0.1 and told me the device successfully installed.
but when booting from htc white screen with green writing and will not be taken down.
I downloaded version 6.0.2 but nothing.
I realized that I gave in the dev hboot:
pvt ship's pyramid-on RL
HBOOT 1.18
the question is that I tried to load bakup and
the RUU without success because I always error image (prompts you to upgrade from version to version 9.999.99 of the RUU)
I tried to do supercid but can not overwrite the code myself, always giving me htc__405
With someone in the aid we have tried unsuccessfully more than one way.
To invite if anyone could help me supergene
How can I fix this?
I would like to avoid carrying your phone for repair
thanks
To install your RUU without errors, turn the phone on by holding power + volume down button, select fastboot from HBOOT screen, connect to your pc, wait for the drivers to install, run the RUU. It should work
If you want to move to ICS you need to install the firmware package correctly. Since you're saying you still are on 1.18, you probably didn't.
Before trying again you have to supercid OR follow mike1986's ICS firmware thread guide before installing the firmware package to install it correctly.
Why is supercid not working? do you have fastboot in your android-sdk-windows\platform-tools installation?

scusa grandelama ma posso parlare in italiano?

yes but you should always put an english translation too.
So are you still getting the same error (155) also when you try to flash your RUU from HBOOT-fastboot USB mode? Or is the code changed? Which RUU are you trying to install?
Continui ad avere lo stesso errore 155 anche se provi ad installare la RUU avendo messo il telefono in fastboot USB mode dalla schermata dell'HBOOT?

the phone does not start for me. stops at the white boot screen.
So I tried and still I'm doing for fastboot usb mode
I think the problem lies in the image of the firmware, because when I get my firmware to the RUU to update with the new one tells me that mine is 9.999.999.99
or do not know what I've experienced.
I tried the gold card, but always the same error.
you can help me?
puoi essermi d'aiuto?
It's a tricky situation!!
Before giving up what I would do is:
try to unlock (completely) your bootloader with Revolutionary. I think it could be done without booting the phone. If you are stuck on "Waiting for device..." you should follow this wiki:http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Revolutionary. And update Android SDK on you pc.
One other thing I would try is to install a custom rom based on your original RUU
I know,
but the problem is that the device boot only in hboot and when i try to boot normally it stuck on withe screen and thc green logo. then i can't use revolutionary.
i tryed to install custom rom but i had a bad results.
have you any idea to solve this problem.

What I was thinking is that if you used htcdev maybe revolutionary wasn't working for you even before bricking. Maybe because of some problem on your PC side (drivers, administrator rights, i don't know).
Just follow every advice on the guide I linked in the last post. Is your phone seen correctly by adb devices? are fastboot commands working? If they are not, what's the error they are giving?
sure,
the phone boot in hboot and the adb command prompt work to the phone.
if i try by htcdev to re-lock the phone and try to launch revolutionary?
I relocked the device with htc dev, run revolutionary as admin but it can't find the phone.
I'm not saying it will work, but I would try to do that before giving up.
If you manage to unlock with revolutionary you're probably safe, since the phone will be completely s-off and You'll be able to supercid, flash new bootloader ecc...
If revolutionary isn't working at first try i wouldn't give up. Install the drivers, install htc sync, connect the phone, uninstall htc sync, run as administrator, run in windows 7 compatibility...
i tried to run Revoulutionary.
get the device in hboot but revolut. didn't find it.
if the device is off revolut. open, get a message of adb and get close.

Installing RUU on Hboot version?

Hi,
due to warranty, I am trying to get my Desire S (S-OFF, root, CWM - via Revolutionary way + flashed Pre-rooted stock rom - newer version) back to stock setting.
1. I used Android Flasher to flash bootloader --> ENGHBOOT
Now hboot version is 6.98.2000
2. I would like to install old RUU (to make it S-ON again), and now have 2 options:
first is with Hboot 0.68.0000
second is with Hboot 0.68.0002
Can I install RUU with Hboot 0.68.0002 or will I mess things up?
Thank you for your help!

you are spot on to first install the ENG hboot...
But now you need to install a RUU, not just a stock hboot (the stock 2.3.3 hboots are 0.98.0000 and 0.98.0002)
I suggest you make a goldcard first... Then look to make sure your misc version isn't higher than the RUU. Then just install the RUU.
Thanks for your reply. I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1460713
OK. For anyone having the same dilemma, I installed RUU with hboot .0002 without problems. Phone is now S-ON.
A similar query !
I have the ENG HBoot 0.98.2000 (PG8810000) ,
S-OFF & Rooted (Custom ROM).
Is it true that I just need to run the RUU to return to Stock ?
=============================================
I have earlier reverted back to stock by following this guide :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1460713.
Which I S-Offed & rooted again & then installed the ENG Hboot.
=============================================
I know this is a dead thread. . .
But, can some1 please clarify my doubt ?
Thanks !
Yes. Just be sure to use the right RUU
Sent from my HTC Desire S
A quick reply from the saviour of bricked devices
Thanks Man !
I have used the correct RUU earlier, but, it is the oldest & only available RUU.
So, i guess after running the RUU , my hboot will again be 0.98.0002 alongwith the stock ROM (running Sense 2.1) ?
Yes you will have a complete Stock system just like when you have bought the phone. But if your carrier is not providing OTA you will get stuck with Sense 2.1. In this case you may think for debranding - some of the global RUUs (European for example if it suits you) with Goldcard. Then you can update to the latest version via OTA or by using the latest RUU
Sent from my HTC Desire S
Yap, I've done that earlier. Did get the OTA after restoring Stock ROM.
I've downgraded / S-OFFed / Rooted again later & then installed the ENG Hboot.
Thanks !!!
Now switch off the ota check and look for you're next update from development forum

s-off noob question- need help

At first
Hi all
Recently I bought HTC sensation ( i'm new to android) and I was wondering if my handset is rooted an s-off or not.
When I go to hboot it looks like this
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
**locked**
Pyramid PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
Hboot 1.18.0000
Radio 10.14.90.35.01_m
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I have android 2.3.4 GB, sense 3, firmware no. 1.50.401.1
Can any body tell me it is s-off or not?
I read somewhere that if I will have s-off and root I can instal ICS by OTA and I will still have s-off, it is true? If I will don't like sense 3.6 on stck, I want to flash custom sense 4 rom. It is posible?
If I don't have s-off
can anybody tell me exactly what to do to have s-off and root in my case
ps. sorry for my english
You are s-off. If you flash an ICS OTA you'll still have s-off, but you'll need to gain root access whether or not you currently have it.
Simplest way to check if you have root access currently is to download a terminal emulator from market, open it, enter "su", and if it shows a "#" instead of a "*" then you have root access.
If it does not then you'll need to flash a custom recovery, and then flash a superuser.zip through recovery which will install the su.apk as well as the su binaries to allow root access to applications.
in terminal I type su but it shows that I don't have premision or something
so I flashed custom recovery, it shows me that it' will be updated, after rebot i deleted it from sd and boot again but seams to be de same recovery
what to do in this case?
and wat thas mean that in boot is s-off but **locked** on pink background
thanks
You definetly S-OFF but you are locked that mean you can't install custom ROM or flash zip with not from hTC. Since you are S-OFF you have to unlock it either via htcdev.com or Revolutionary. The Revolutionary will be the good choice right now, and since you are in Gingerbread. You can follow ":[Guide] to Installing S-off, Unlocking, ClockWork, Root, SuperCID & S-on" to root and unlocked the nand. Hope this will clear your's problem.
thank for help,
I make a mistake, custom recovery installed fine to me, I just don't know where to find instal from sd card, but now i now where it is
ok If it is locked I try to unlock it by revolutionary metod
and one question - After that I must instal recovery again or it will be stil ther after revolutionary process
Because you are S-OFF already you can update to official ICS, then flash the 3.32 Unlocked firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
then flash a recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=966814&stc=1&d=1332793798
and you will be ready to flash any new custom ICS roms.
OK I have in botloader now this
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
revolutionary <----- chenged from **locked**

Hboot 1.17.1111 <----- chenged from 1.18.0000

A LOT of bad information/advice in this thread...
To the OP:
Going by what you originally posted you ARE S-OFF as said but you were running the stock HTC HBOOT 1.18.0000. With this you CAN flash a custom ROM but you CANNOT use fastboot commands as the stock HBOOT has them locked out. If you were to go to Recovery and you got CWM then you can flash a new ROM/root your existing ROM with no issues whatsoever
If you went to Recovery and got a red ! on the screen then you have the stock Recovery and cannot flash a custom ROM. You would need to flash CWM via a PG58IMG.zip file
Once CWM has been flashed you can then use a custom ROM.
Going by the last HBOOT info you posted you are currently running the Revolutionary HBOOT which is the same as the HTC one but allows the use of fastboot commands.
The important thing here is you will NOT be able to run an ICS-based ROM until you update the FW to the latest 3.32 FW so until you do you're stuck with GB-based ROMs

SO I must update to new ICS via OTG, but... When it download and update my phone I got a strange icon with android and with "!", and it stuck, only batery pull down is working to bring it to life. What can I do with this???
Just flash that new 3.32 firmware which is needed for ics, then my given recovery, and you will be ready for ics roms.
Please help!
I make a mistake and now I have s-off but locked on 1.27 bootloader and also boot loop
Is original firmware from here bring my phone to life, I flashed before unlocked firmware, but got loop so flashed also fix for it but not work
Code:
http://www.filefactory.com/f/c87a2330449af512/
So did you flash the recommended unlocked 3.32 firmware? Your hboot version should be 1.27.1100 now, is it? Now flash 4ext recovery and then choose one of many ics roms. Your old gingerbread rom will not boot with the new hboot so it is normal. Get an ics rom.
I'm stock again, phone works but how to get it unlocked again
I updated my phone via RUU to official ICS, so at the moment I have s-off but locked and bootloader ver. 1.27.0000
I want to ask If I update by RUU to oficial GB it brings older bootloader too?
How to get custom ICS now....?

Dummy question regardin device root and instalation of custom ROM

A colleague of mine just bought a HTC Desire S and is unable to find info on how to root and install custom ROM (CyanogenMOD).
I myself don't have the time or desire to look so I am please asking you.

It worked for me for the first try but I suggest to read at least the 75% of the comments before you start doing anything. Lot's of questions answered there.
Than I followed the revolutionary method just mentioned in the 8. section.
And of course your friend should read all the help and wiki he finds on the cyanogen website (for Desire S as well) so he will understand how these things work.
In my case, all the downgrading and flashing took 1 hour but before doing anything I spent 4-5 full afternoons to read everything and understand the processes and methodology behind all this stuff.

Could someone please post some noob-friendly directions on how to proceed next so that I can install a custom recovery, maybe root? and then have the capability to install roms?
I have read several tutorials but I'm not really sure on what to do next..
Thank you
Maybe unlocking the bootloader helped?
Your already s-off, start by flashing a custom recovery (4ext is the best rc9) this can be done by downloading the 4ext updater from the playstore, place the rom and gapps of your choice on your sd card. Boot into recovery and format all except sd. Then flash the rom then gapps with install zip from sd. Reboot and you should be good to go. Any problems you'll find me and others in the help thread.

@op,I posted in another thread and i just seen this one. U will need to unlock bootloader again via htcdev before u can flash recovery. U are s-off but bootloader says locked because an ruu was flashed (correct?) i know this will work coz i just had to do it with my sensation coz im selling it. I flashed a ruu so i could sell it as stock and my bootloader was locked (but s-off) and the guy buying it, wanted me to flash a rom so i went to flash recovery and it said failed bla bla bla so i unlocked bootloader via htcdev then flashed recovery and it worked.
recovery.img below is latest 4ext recovery so once u unlock bootloader flash it via fastboot commands. check md5 before flashing

No need to unlock, just flash an eng bootloader 2.00.2002 or 7.x then recovery and you are good to dive into custom
