Hi,
I rooted my phone after a downgrade recently. I have a few questions
1) What are the advantages of upgrading the hboot from 0.98.2000(unlocked via revolutionary) to 2.00.2002 using this?
2) What are the advantages of upgrading to the latest radio? I am referring to this one? is it recommended to do so?
I would not recommend upgrading to a higher h-boot. It will just make life difficult, if anything. Also, I would only upgrade the radio if you're experiencing any signal issues our anything. Otherwise you won't notice a difference.
You might want to look into an eng-hboot though. It can be overwritten for warranty purposes

Under what situations should we consider to upgrade to eng-hboot?
Swyped from a primed Desire S
Well if something were to go wrong with the phone, you could flash a RUU and it would overwrite the H-BOOT to a stock one. So it's good for warranty purposes. There are also other advantages to it, can't remember off the top of my head though.
It's not necessary to have, but I think it's nice to have. Don't forget though, there are risks with flashing a H-BOOT.
Risks would mean bricking I suppose...
So from what I understand
1. Upgrading to stock hboot is never recommended
2. We could upgrade to eng hboot, which will have an advantage in case of warranty issues, but rings the risk of bricking.
My warranty expires in May this year.
I will look up for more advantages of an eng hboot.

Yes, but many have done it, including myself. I wouldn't say upgrading h-boot is never recommended, just not on this device. With some devices there are advantages.
The process of flashing the H-BOOT is fairly simple and it's just your usual risks that you get when you're doing anything to your phone.
But like i said before, it's not absolutely necessary to have.

Are you S-off via xtc clip or revolutionary?
it's there any differences to upgrading to eng hboot between both the processes?
Appreciate if you could guide me to some links you referred to..

You can use this method via adb:
1. Put the hboot.img you want to flash in the root of the sdcard.
2. In cmd run the following commands (after each command press enter):
adb devices
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 of=/sdcard/backup.img
dd if=/sdcard/hboot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18

After going through various threads I am thinking of flashing end-hboot version 0.98.2000 as the 2.0 version wastes 150 MB of space....

Hi,
I want to flash a new radio to my Sensation as I currently have a really bad battery life and thought it could maybe be the result of an non-matched radio. (Updated to Android Revolution HD 3.0.0 yesterday)
My bootloader tells me I'm Ship S-OFF, but I've read that I'd need ENG S-OFF to flash a new radio, but could not find any guide telling me how to "do that".
Do I need ENG S-OFF? If so, how can I get it?
Thanks for your help.
Find Bin4ry's thread in dev section (it's a little hard to find, old thread but still) and inside that thread you can download PG58IMG.zip file. Then just flash that file and that's it

Installing a new ROM does not override the radio, installing a new radio does. If you don't know what ENG hboot does, don't flash it. You don't need it, and if you don't know what youre doing you can brick your phone.

What I just want to know is, what is the difference between Ship S-Off and Eng S-Off? What is responsible for giving acces to Nand making me able to install a custom ROM? Ship S-Off, right?
I'm really confused right now xD

Ship S-OFF is enough to flash a recovery so you can flash a ROM. If your ROM needs a different radio the chef will let you know and will likely provide instructions to upgrade. ENG s-off opens up more commands that can potentially break a phone if you do the wrong things.

I am on InsertCoin ROM and I would like to know if I can update my HBOOT from 1.17 to 1.18.
Is this possible or there is not 1.18 (revolutionary) hacked ?
Revolutionary actually downgrades your from 1.18 to it's hacked 1.17, so upgrading to 1.18 is useless.
Also, why do you want 1.18 since you won't actually benifit/experience anything from it?

Again, why flash a newer bootloader if there is NOTHING to gain from it, risking the possibility of hard bricking your phone, and with pointless "fixes" that are only to undo what revolutionary did?
Its jot an update in any way, shape, or form, and increases your possibility of a hard brick for zero gain.

Wouldn't this be part of HTC removing the patents they lost against apple? HTC are ment to be releasing new updates for all phones.
And then again.. Why would they release a new update of froyo when Gingerbread was released?
This makes no sense?

Bravo Oxygen r2.
Website has two confusing explanation:
1. "Downgrade protection, these HBOOTs cannot be overwritten by an OTA or RUU, unless you flash a downgrader HBOOT first."
2. "Will my phone stay S-OFF forever?
Yes and no. As soon as you decide to flash a stock RUU that has a HBOOT update in it, this hacked HBOOT will be overwritten."

I just download ICE_DS v.52 and Cooldroid Revolution 7.1, the author recommended to use file radio : 20.72.30.0833U_3831.17.00.310.
i've downoad the file from source in xda forums, when i check the zip file, it only contain 2 file :
- radio.img
- android-info.txt
i try updating the radio, but got stuck in bootloader menu, it's freezing with the words "Parsing PG88IMG.zip].
then i try download another radio file : 20.76.30.0835U_3831.19.00.110, (same from xda forums. when i check, it has more file in it :
- android-info.txt
- dzdata_4g.hdr
- dzdata_4g.img
- radio.img
- rcdata.img
- tp_atmelc12_20aa.img
then I read a comment that the 2nd file will change not only radio file but also hbot file, etc.
can anyone tell me how many files and the which files should there be in radio zip file? and perhaps a link to radio files 20.72.30.0833U_3831.17.00.310

can I use blackrose, like one provided in this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1509236. do I install it through recovery mode?

one problem for downgrading is, i don't know the old RUU for the android since it belongs to my cousin. i tried 2 WWE RUU 1.31 - 1.48, both show customer ID error.
is there a way to check our stock ROM, let say from IMEI or something like that?
any tip, help would be apreciated.
im a old semi-dev (like semi-god lol just a joke) but mostly for samsung and motorola devices.
this is mmm, lets say my semi first HTC device, i briked accidentaly a HTC Sensation 4g, resiving an ota, i forget to change my cid.
There is no best way, there are many ways.
If you are s-off, just run a ruu of your choice with the hboot you want.
Check what cid you need for the ruu (HTC__xxx) (because a ruu will still do checks). I prefer a og HTCcid over supercid anyday, you have experienced that already.
cid is now easy to change with a fastboot command (or leave the supercid).

Slower, why?
I have hboot 1.06 and i am willing to change to a higher hboot if it worked better than 1.06

Its a bit slower going into bootloader or recovery its not much so up to if you want to upgrade also a newer one don't have the loading bar.
Run the RUU
Safest way to downgrade your hboot to 1.06 is to install the shipped rom RUU_Ville_U_HTC_Europe_1.53.401.2_Radio_0.15.31501S.19_10.12.31501S.06L_release_251412_signed.exe

Updates to piss us off before S-Off lol. I just don't see the point in doing this with S-Off, if we didn't then ya downgrading was good but now to me its bad.
