It's been awhile since I've messed around with the Droid 2 Global. I owned one, but gave it to my mom when i got my droid x (I now have a LG Revo). But when I was still using my Droid 2 Global, the GB Update hadn't come out yet so i was still on Froyo, so i was able to use z4root to root it. Will z4root still work with it being on stock Gingerbgread ? and if not, how do I root it ? and also, will the the Droid 2 Bootstrapper still work for it cause I still have that app saved on my PC> I wanna theme and ROM her phone, So I just want to know if the way I did everything before GB update, will still work, or do i have to go about it a whole different way ?
Newest gingerbread update cant be rooted yet. You cant even sbf back to froyo. Doing so will brick your phone.
if phone is on system version 4.5.608 you need to root from pc
with pete's root, superoneclick or other
http://www.psouza4.com/Droid3/
if phone is on 4.5.629 there is no root yet, and can not SBF to earlier version, will brick phone

So I currently have a Motorola Milestone X. I would like to root it and give it a Gingerbread theme. Problem is, nobody seems to have one of these things yet it seems. From what I can tell there isn't a whole lot of difference from the official Verizon device and its unbranded counterpart. Below is the info from the about section:
System Version:
Version.3.1.39.MB809.ACG.en.US
Model number:
Milestone X
Android version:
2.2.1
Baseband version:
BP_C_02.06.00R
Kernel version:
2.6.32.9 - gace4441

Build number:

Any sort of help or advice would be awesome, I'm cautious about using the bootstrapper etc seeing as this phone is so easy to brick.
Anyone??
Root
Came across your post earlier when I was trying to find out how to root my phone.
Mine had the same stats, and I was able to root it.
This is what I did.
I downloaded and installed all the Motorola drivers.
http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-E...arging-Drivers
Hooked the phone up and went through each mode to ensure all the drivers were installed.
I then installed the latest version of SuperOneClick from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
I then extracted and ran SuperOneClick, chose the psneuter exploit and clicked root. This was able to root the phone. I did need to reboot the phone before the superuser application would work though.
I just got this phone so I really haven't done anything more than get root access, it will probably be a little while before I investigate using a custom rom.

That sounds easy however do you in fact have a Motorola Milestone X Or Motorola mb809 (says behind the battery) or the Droid x from Verizon? because a friend of mine has this phone and wants to root it and i will be doing it for him and dont want to mess up cause these things arent cheap

I did the root no problem!
Now the ROM thing I'm having a tough time deciding to do it.
Are they working on a easier way to root a stock 4.1.57 atrix phone? are they going to use the super one click root?
I have been reading up on using GladAtrix2 v4.2.3
I have a stock atrix with 4.1.57 on it and would like to root as well.
It states you need to load "Tenfar's CWM Recovery" and install before you can install GladAtrix2 v4.2.3 & in order to install Tenfar's CWM Recovery your phone has to be rooted.
The only thing I can figure out is to flash the atrix back to 4.1.26 and root with Superoneclick. I would rather just use GladAtrix2 if possible.
anyone with a answer for this? i really dont wanna reflash my phone id rather just use super one click .. anyone know if they are gonna make it for this new update?
So I found a link for the Gingerbread download when I searched "droid x gingerbread download" on google.
It had the 4.5.588 System Version.
I successfully downloaded the software on my sdcard but unfortunately I forgot to unroot my phone with z4root before installing the software.
Now I don't know what to do since the superuser remains as well as z4root but no rooted softwares work.
Please don't let me brick this!
How do I unroot this phone or fix it? Any help is appreciated.
Sounds like you just lost root when you updated. If you haven't tried this already, run Z4Root to re-root it again and it should be fine.
I tried to unroot and reroot using z4root several times it doesn't seem to work. I know this because the wifi tether is not working and says "Are you sure you are rooted?"
I mentioned that I installed gingerbread on the phone without unrooting the old software...
Gingerbread
my understanding is there is no app to root the gingerbread release. Please correct me if I am wrong, and advise if there is a way to root my droidx after I updated it to the latest Verizon release.
I'm with meeraj023 on this one. I have unrolled the phone, also using Z4 and still cannot update.
Tried while it has been rooted and while not rooted without he same results.
I have also read that you can't root the new GB. The only fix I have heard of is to SBF back to something rootable, but I could be wrong.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA Premium App
Hey all. New user so I wasnt able to post on the development thread I saw. So I saw that Motorola has the official update to 2.3, and from what Ive read if you have unlocked your phone, updating will most likely brick your phone. What about on simply a rooted atrix? Will i be fine updating to 2.3? Will my phone still be rooted?
Actually, as being newbie too.. I understood that only DOWNGRADE from Gingerbread backward to any previous version will brick the phone.
Now, about updating already rooted phone.. i tried OTA but failed (got that yellow exclamation mark screen). So, what is necessary to successfully update rooted 1.83 to GB and to have root access again after? If possible not to loose any data, partitions etc.. Or simply how to apply OTA update on rooted phone then to root it again?
Rooted Atrix
First time posting here, hopefully I am on the right thread.
I am currently using Android V 2.2.2 on a rooted AT&T Atrix. I tried downloading the new Motorola released Gingerbread over-the-air, which downloaded fine. However when I try to install I keep getting "exclamation" mark with the android logo. I hard to hard reset the phone and got the message "software upgrade failed" message.
Is there something I am supposed to do prior to the installation? Since my phone has already been rooted (that's about all I did).
Thanks for any help. And glad to be here. better late than never.
I have heard that in order to upgrade to Gingerbread 2.3.4 OTA from Rooted 2.2.2 of Atrix 4G, We need to UNROOT first. if not OTA upgrade will soft brick the phone.
As i heard, there is another solution which is to OFFLINE upgrade via USB cable by computer. first is to download the Gingerbread ROM for ATRIX 4G from Motorola website.
For exact How-To guide I am not sure and can't find yet. if any one know How to Unroot and Offline upgrade, Please help to clarify.
Please let me know if Unroot the "gingerbreak" on 2.2.2 will cause any trouble? as i have experienced rooting Atrix 4G Froyo 2.2.2 by Gingerbreak has vanished all my internal memory contents :'( . now time for unroot and upgrade.. feel very risky!!!
Please HELP!
theres a forum for all of your questions

Ok, so not to long ago I recieved a notification saying that my Droid 2 Global ws due for an update. My thoughts were "YAY!! NEW STUFF!!!". After I updated it I found out about phone rooting and I did some research on it. I came to the conclusion that I was going to root my phone no matter what. But I have tryed everything I came across. Which was only Gingerbreak, z4root, Petesoneclickroot, and I think thats about it.... Anyways none of those work.
When I tryed the Gingerbreak it would say its rooting but I left it there for like 3 hours while I watched a movie and it still wasnt done... I knew it wasnt going to work because it said it would take "2-3 minutes, 10 minutes at the max".
With the z4root I would install it and click on it and click Pearmanet Root. It would load for a little then it would just stop and go to the home screen of my phone. When I clicked the app again it would say it force clossed and after that it just would not open when I clicked it.
With the Petes one click root it would be going all well until it came to the rebooting stage. Once my phone shut off and started back up it would go into bootloader. And it would stay like that...
Just so you know what my phone is running and stuff its:
Model Number: DROID2 GLOBAL
Android Version: 2.3.3
If theres anything else you need to know just ask and please someone tell me and option to root my phone.
z4root and Gingerbreak won't work.
As it was described multiple times, DROID3 ADB exploit works. Pete's one-click motorola root tools should work; although it might fail if you had z4root.
i was
success to root using superoneclick 2.2(zergrush)
I used Pete's Root Tools for my D2G several times with no problems. It's pretty straight forward. You might need to SBF, because those other apps probably narsed up your ROM.
Also make sure you have the most recent drivers from Motorola. I have heard of problems being because of old drivers. Rootzwiki has some great user/dev threads on installing cm7gb. I would go there and follow the directions you find. Like the others said you may need to sbf to get a factory/known good state.
Remember: double & triple check everything before getting stuck up a creek. And make sure you have a way back before you start down that road...
D2G CM7GB
just used peters root tool.
worked excellent for me
If i had been rooted and then the update unrooted my phone. how can i gain root access. furthermore is their an app and lastly can i do it on a mac?
Look for DROID3 one-click root scripts. There's a version for Mac. This has been discussed many times, and can be found with a quick Google search, too.
