OK, I am not afraid to show my total ignorance. How does the 3g work? Can I go to any mobile cellular carrier and sign up for a monthly fee? What sort of plans are out there for what kind of cost?
Come on. Is anyone using the the 3g capabilities of the tablet and who is your carrier?

I am answering you out of courtesy, so don't complain if you don't like my answer.
I have a wifi-only Xoom. Many of us do. Most 3G Xoom owners bought their Xoom through a carrier like Verizon. I guess it might be possible to buy an unlocked 3G Xoom and do the same as you would an unlocked phone, but I wouldn't know.
Does anyone know if the mObile hot spot works on Simple Mobile 40 dollars a month 3g plan. I had no problem using hotspot on Tmobile before. Does anyone have a fix for this . Im rooted and unlocked using HTC Sensation. thanks
as far as a i know, this is a phone feature and your provider shouldn't have a say in the matter, so it's probably a problem with the rom your running and not your provider.
At least that's my understanding of it.
I want to use simple mobile as my carrier. T-Mobile service is just awful where I am.
I assume that it would be possible to unlock my G2x (i can see the sticky), but are there any other issues that I should be aware of?
Thanks!!!

Simple uses tmobiles own network. So yes it will work but you will get the same performance. You don't even need to unlock your phone

Ohh the irony!
Thank you
Lol thank you, I was going to post this as I'm thinking about switching for a cheaper plan.
I'm using simple mobile for more than a year and any T-mobile phone is compatible with simple mobile, no need to unlock.
Unfortunately with g2x I had problems with APN settings, it switches automatically, on some ROMs I couldn't even see APNs i edited. When restarting the phone it gets by default T-mobile's APN, which doesn't work on simple mobile. I'm not saying that I have tried all g2x ROMs, but maybe 5-7. The best one for the simple mobile is Weapon G2x, by whitehawkx, because of stable APN settings. Want to try miui, but couldn't mount my internal SD card, it's not because of simple mobile
So far happy with simple mobile, cheaper, even includes unlimited international texting, this is also important to me. For the rates they are offering, it's good, but maybe you'll try CDMA, like metro PCS, Virgin, Boost Mobile. I need GSM phone, that is the one of the reasons I use simple mobile.
I use miui and simple all great here.

I've searched up and down and all around simple mobile's website for the answer to the question:
Does simple mobile allow you to use a android phone with a simple mobile sim card as a HotSpot for other computer(s)?
Is it legal?
thanks!
one extra question:
Is it ok to connect a galaxy s 4g with simple mobile to a VPN service (that is normally only for android) and then get a wifi connection to a computer so the computer can use the vpn as well?
I hope its legal I do it everyday

How could be illegal? If you try to do hotspot then it works its not illegal, if it doesn't then they don't allow you to.
There's nothing illegal about mobile hotspot unless stated. The network carrier can simply block it instead of making it "illegal".

Can you clarify this statement? You got me confused in this part "(that is normally only for android)".
"Legal," most likely yes. It violates no law that I have am aware of.
In violation of your contract? That is a different question. You'll have to read it.

Might Be Okay...
Well, I'm using my phone as a mobile hotspot right now just as a backup while my Wi-Fi connection is down. I have Simple Mobile too, but I'm using a rooted HTC HD2 for that. I think it's legal, but watch out if you're using like 2GB or more in a short period of time. I just got a message saying they could have me suspended for breaking terms of service. They never mentioned anything about mobile hotspots, but I'm guessing it's because I've used about 3GB in the last three weeks and I have yet to fix my Wi-Fi connection.
Hey everyone,
I posted a video to the XDA page for the SPRINT LG G4 about getting free mobile hotspot without root access. I was told in the comments that this also works on the LG G Flex 2. I don't own this device and don't plan to try it at a store. Go ahead and tell me if the guy was right and try it out. If it does great! If you are already rooted, you can still try it.

I have native hotspot on my phone? It didn't warn me about additional charges. I have one of the newer family share plans, 8gb

Free mobile Hotspot. You already pay for yours.
