Hey guys I recently got an infuse from a buddy. Its never been rooted or anything, I came from the inspire where I noticed there was a lot more activity with ROMs, skins,etc... I'm wondering if this phone doesn't have as much interest or its harder to do things with? Ik nothing of the programming that goes into these things...just wondering if there will be more to come or if it is what it is?

I also came from the inspire. The ROM activity here is nothing compared to the that phones development. HTC phones will always be superior with development and thats just the way it is. Partly because of the strong following of HTC Sense.

Yes there will be more to come. From what I've read, the dev's are waiting for Att to release gingerbread.
If you look in the dev section you'll find lots to play with.

Very good point. I remember the Inspire forums before the official GB builds came out. There was nothing happening and many people thought it was the start of a downhill path to the end of development for that phone. How wrong they were! Turned out all the devs didn't want to put in a lot of time to another build if GB was on the horizon. As soon as it hit, it was madness with all the new ROMs coming out. Hopefully the same happens here.
Cool I hope it all starts up soon... I will keep my eyes on the dev sections to see what comes up...fingers crossed

Me too. Its a tough call between Samsung and HTC though. Samsung has always had fantastic hardware and specs, HTC has always had fantastic software and vast dev community. Take your pick...

Yeah. Pretty much what happened was:
Things slowed down as we all waited for Rogers Gingerbread, as few people wanted to put significant efforts into Froyo. A few (like Bedwa and myself) did so more as a learning experience. The lull gave some of us time to learn and play.
Then Rogers GB came out - there was a heavy flurry of development for a few weeks, including trying to correct the deficiencies of the Rogers Gingerbread release. Correcting some of these deficiencies seemed to be nearly impossible - after multiple attempts, HDMI was hosed, data speeds were crap, and camera performance was blah.
There was also all the *****ing people did at gtg over the data speeds issue which made a lot of devs nervous about posting stuff here. Nopcodex90 almost released a GB ROM but after seeing how many people complained about fundamental uncorrectable problems with Rogers GB, I believe he decided to hold off until AT&T released Gingerbread.
So people started getting frustrated with basing anything on the Rogers release, and we all decided to take a break and have some beers rather than bash our heads against the wall for little return. On top of that LinuxBozo had some stuff come up in RL for a few weeks, and similarly I had the following chain of events make me fall behind on phone hacking:
1) Family visiting for Labor Day
2) Epic flooding (4-6 feet above previous record) where I live - I was living at a friend's 40 minutes away for a few days, then no power for a few more, and no hot water for nearly a week.
3) Nasty sinus infection - I'm just recovering from this now.
Also, thanks to Hellrasier, A LOT of new ROMs have opened up to the infuse. So check out the android development for the Samsung i9000. I've played around with a few and they work really well.
After Gingerbread is officially released more will pick up for the Infuse specifically but until then it's fun to try some of the 10-15 that the i9000 give us.
Will the I9000 ROMs work seamless with our phones?

Hellraiser isn't quite seamless - there are known issues with it such as no audio on the first call without toggling speaker on/off, and all of the typical Rogers Gingerbread warts.
The other known Hellraiser issue consistent across many ROMs is that if the ROM has a "battery fully charged" notification, this notification will stick until the device is rebooted. Does not affect ROMs that nuke the notification in the first place such as Mikey's S7.
But so far nearly all I9000 ROMs work equally well with Hellraiser.
What is Hellraiser? As u can see im on my infuse from Rogers which must be what the I997R stands for.
Can I use this Hellraiser thing on my Rogers infuse?
Please advise...

Unofficially probably. No way is our outdated phone going to see an official build. It changes to much of the phone and how it looks.
The average dumbass would freak out if they updated and things changed. No.way would a phone manufacturer do that. Ever.

I think we will get GB and then we are done. When this happens is when you need to buy a new phone.
I'd be happy with official GB right now. ICS seems highly unlikely.
I wouldnt hold my breath officially, but our awesome developers here are sure give us some ice cream lovin. Probably before we get official GB lol

They give you a stock build of it yes. But you need drivers, a kernel and suck to make it work with out hardware.
All of which we don't even have for gingerbread correctly let alone ics.

actually, they are giving a fully functional universal build.
No and Im not sure why people even think we will get an unofficial version, didnt we only get a ghetto version of Gingerbread after an official Samsung leak? Why on earth would Samsung even attempt to make an ICS version for this phone? They need to actually make something to leak it, which is pretty much impossible given Samsungs business model.

I see a lot of good ported ROMs for Galaxy S i9000 using the AOSP 4.0.3. Even tried them and they are very good and very few bugs.
Anyone planning to start porting some of this stuff for Infuse users?
I am currently using THIS one on my SGS but will soon be getting an unlocked Infuse and wonder if this stuff can be ported for Infuse users.

So what's the problem bringing ICS to the Infuse? I have a Captivate, which I didn't think was really much different from the Infuse, and I have several ICS choices currently. My wife has the Infuse and she's getting jealous that I can have ICS and she can't!
The Captivate is a much more popular device. Even though it is much older is has a larger development community. Even Samsung bothered to keep that device up to date for a while. I know somebody who got the Captivate on 2.1. Since then she got OTA updates for 2.2 and then for 2.3. Unfortunately for us Infuse owners, we are like the red-headed step brother to the SG2 so we get no love

Switch phones. She gets crappy ics and you get a great phone.
So apparently HTC has updated their list of devices receiving ICS... 2 of which being the Thunderbolt and Incredible 2. Clearly HTC and Samsung are seperate companies, but seeing how both these devices were released well before the DC maybe Samsung will give us some official ICS love.
Thoughts?

It's a thought, maybe I can come back to bed and dream some more on ICS for the Charge! hehe.
They haven't released RIL wouldn't hold my breath.
Would be nice of them but I don't see that happening for months. If at all. Sammy isn't that great for pushing updates IMO from past phones..
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Points in favor of the Charge getting ICS:
It was a flagship phone, dropping support would tarnish Samsung's reputation
Contemporary phones seem to be getting ICS
The Charge has just been released for US Cellular as the Galaxy S Aviator, and 18 months of updates means it pretty much has to get ICS...
Points against the Charge getting ICS:
The Galaxy S isn't getting ICS, because Samsung says it doesn't have enough memory... and has the same amount of memory as the Charge.
Honestly, I have no idea what to expect at this point...
For now I would treat ICS on Droid Charge as....a miracle! rare to happen...but possible.
We'll have a better shot of a dev porting it before Samsung.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Samsung, updating Droid Charge would be like putting it on the Fascinate...same phone Charge just has LTE
Dee Ex Two - See Em Seven
Samsung has said that the original galaxy s phones aren't getting ics because they don't have enough ram after samsung puts tw on it. I will assume the galaxy s 1.5 phones aren't getting it either because they have just as much ram.
Sent from my pocket-sized, Linux-based computer using electromagnetic radiation... and Tapatalk.
It's been.pretty much said by Samsung that the Galaxy S line(including variations) won't get ICS since they want to include TW with it. That would, I assume, require more memory. Our only hope would be 100% stock ICS ported over.
But damn, if the Nexus S had LTE, that probably would have helped a bit.

Yea my thing is .... Samsung would look hella bad if they didn't and HTC did update phones released prior to DC .Aside from that Sense is a lot more of a memory hog than tw... the thunderbolt ONLY has 25% more ram.. then again it has 25 % more ram so who knows
RE- ril; the fact that Samsung doesn't seem to want to release the code doesn't mean they wont release ICS... ril doesn't need to be public for them to release an official build... or am I mistaken?

You are not. The RIL is just a necessity for a community build of it, which would likely come out much sooner than an official one if we could get ahold of it
The problem isn't the amount of RAM, it is the amount of space allocated for /system on the device. If they would include TouchWiz, it likely would not have enough space left for everything. However, the fact that I have heard there are internal builds of ICS for the Charge is promising. Also, the fact that the Thunderbolt is getting ICS helps our case as well.
Being that the charge and epic are so similar besides the keyboard, you guys should get with our devs and see if you can port over our cm9.

I have two friends with a charge. I rooted a flashed eclipse on one of them. Just haven't seen anything cm, or miui related in your forums. Just curious why no support in those areas. Ok I haven't exactly found an answer for this so I'm asking. First Why do people say we won't get a fully functional ICS/JB Rom port if HTC doesn't give us ICS?
The reason I would like to know this is merely because I have a Samsung captivate, it has ICS(fully functional), and Samsung never released ICS for it. I know that its different hardware and manufacturer, but wouldn't the same concept apply to all devices?
If not please explain why the same concept doesn't apply here.
Thanks.

There are some really great ics roms out here and desirehd forum. They just have very minor issues which don't bother me at all. The issue here I noticed is that no matter what the devs give is the users will never be satified and will always complain about something whether this or that or not getting this or that. As far as I'm concerned I have a fully functional ics rom thanks to LC and Exists( hope its spell correctly)lol and a few other devs here.

It doesn't apply here because its hardware is 90% the same as the nexus s and that got ICS source a long time ago. We don't have a similar nexus device like that so it is more difficult .
