[Q] i need a phone for mothers day. - General Questions and Answers

im thinking of getting a new mobile for my mum for mothers day, as she is complaing that the keyboard on her old one is a bit fiddly, the keys are too small & too close together, shes getting on a bit and her hands aren't brilliant, so i was thinking of a touch screen phone, coz you can rotate the onscreen keyboard which spreads it out a bit, one of the Samsung galaxy range perhaps? (i have a galaxy s2) , but dont know which would be best for an old dear lol! she would really only use it for texting and the occasional photo at family get togethers, so doesn't really need a galaxy S or S2, but which of the lower end ones would be best? the screen needs to be fairly responsive etc, but specs overall are not that important. any ideas?

whatever you choose, stay away from the Galaxy Mini

samsung galaxy wonder

Try to stay away from the Galaxy ace as well. So may people have problems with that. Such as lagging, texting and phoning malfunctions. The galaxy y is fairly good or maybe the galaxy s? Hope this helped

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Ive decided on a galaxy y, it was reasonably priced, not too big or fiddly, & i think it should do her ok (i hope).
also sorry for posting in the wrong section. Doh!

get her Galaxy Note! it may be in the galaxy range but why not consider it for it's size?
my mum is about to change her phone and she have problems like her keyboard too hahaha
my dad suggest she used the Note since the display is bigger and her eyesight is getting poorer
i believe a bigger display would be better for the folks hahaha

[Q] new phone advice?

hi guys n girls
looking at getting a new phone tomorrow and just wondering what u guys would recomend
ive been looking at the htc evo 3d
the galaxy s 2
and the galaxy note
really not interested in an iphone though as i hate apple
any advice would be greatly recieved,
many thanks
steve
ps current phone is the galaxy s 1
I have an Evo 3D and enjoy it, the Galaxy 2 is excellent as well. The Note is not in the US yet, but I plan on getting one soon. AT&T looks like they will have it first, though I somewhat prefer Verizon.
At the end of the day there are a lot of good phones, it depends on what the carrier has. I could go either way on AT&T and Verizon, so I'll probably go with whoever get's the Note/Journal first.
galaxy s2 if u want good performance and nice phone
Hi Steve,
Well you said it all by saying the names of the candidates. I wouldn't get the HTC because either SGS2 and Note have a really good performance (better than HTC Evo 3D i'd say), also i've known HTCs for having bad camera performances..
I have the SGS2 and it's just amazing, i love how smooth and fast it is.
If you want a bigger screen then you know the Note is for you, you can also use it to make drawings and stuff like that if you're creative or in the other way around, if you want 3D, the HTC is your phone.
In my opinion i'd get the SGS2, i don't really like HTC phones because of their UI and not really good performances overall.
EDIT: also, the SGS2's camera is really good imo, i love its quality and the videos are stunning as well. Don't forget how thin and light it is!
Good luck on your decission
Galaxy note is better if you like a big screen
thanks for the replies,
just thought are there any other phones (uk market) that anyone would recomend over these
i do like the idea of a large screen and also like the idea of 3d photos
y do they make it so hard to choose now lol
cheers
steve
Lol yeah, you could check LG phones or Sony Ericsson Experia (or future Sony only Experia), but i don't recommend LG because of their bad SO update reputation
There's a lot to choose, but my suggestion is the SGS2 or Note.
Depends on your price. I had a galaxy s 2. But the forums were full of idiots and noob questions. Plus being honest what the hell is the point in all that power when battery isn't the best.
Anyhow Bought a nexus s unlocked from cpw for 199 and put the extra 150 towards a holiday. And now I have a gorgeous looking phone with a great community behind it. And great support from Google. No UI over the the phone. So despite not being dual core. Its fast.
And don't even start about quadrant!!!!!! Lol

forgot to mention my budget , i can get any phone i wish on contract over here for free so money is no issue
Wait for those A15 cores!
I love HTC products, but of that list the G SII is the best choice... in my opinion.
I'm assuming you're on Sprint?

[Q] Which phone would you recommend for me?

So, I have gotten stuck between three different ones...
Samsung Galaxy S II
Samsung Galaxy Note
Samsyng Galaxy Nexus
Upgrading from a HTC Wildfire.
A bit about my usage... I never call. Maybe once every second month. I find the e-mail/browser the most important feature, along with calendar sync with Exchange.
I write relative much in WhatsApp/Sms
Accessories-wise, I kinda want something to protect the front, but I never liked screen protectors, as I'm a horrible perfectionist.. For the S II and Note I know you can get official stuff that covers the screen, but none yet for the Nexus..
I study finances, so if I can read - without problems - PDF, it would be great.
Gaming-wise.. Well, I just want to play stuff like Where's My Water, Cut the Rope, etc...
So, anyone can help me point out which probably is best for my needs?
I recomend for you the Galaxy Note, since it have all the others features plus a huge screen for reading PDF.

I would be inclined to agree, the Galaxy Note would be the best for reading documents on the go.
How's the battery time on the Note compared to Nexus/S II?
Not sure about the battery differences but if you're studying up on things and reading PDFs, definitely the Note.
The Galaxy Note seems to be a cross between a phone and a tablet. I've got a Galaxy S2 and I am very happy with it. For your purposes though I think the Note with it's bigger screen will be best.
i think galaxy note will be awesome for you
choose the galaxy sii

Really appreciate the opinions
Could only find the S II / Nexus in stores today, and if I had to choose between those, I think I would choose the S II.. The Nexus is nice, but it just doesn't seem quite as well-done as the S II.
Without a doubt a great phone, but feel it's a bit underwhelming.
I would give you the HTC S empfehlen.Sehr good device.
Galaxy s 2
HTC Wildfire S VM "s-off rooted stock Rom"
Thanks for all your help
At least I know the S II / Note would be #1/2
Hey man,Think about it, if you do not need a cell phone then perhaps you should buy a note... but the Galaxy has both and is more convenient to carry...
If you can upgrade to Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) on the Note that would be your best bet if not you might consider the Nexus.
Definitely recommend the note for you. You'd probably enjoy the increased real estate on the screen, plus that thing is damn quick.

Actually been wondering how the pen and the overall speed is
I also recommend the note for you.

galaxy s2 and stick with android or iphone?

My evo finally met its maker when it took a dive in the sink...extremely depressing, however Now im trying to see where to do from here. I bought the white Galaxy s2 and i like the specs and as long as i can get it to look similar to the evo rom with launcher pro etc...im sticking with it no questions, the only real complaint is the gui stock looks a little too crayola for me(dont really know how to explain it) and im not sure if a rooted iphone really has the same development following as Android. ANY help would be appreciated. should i make the move to iphone?
I have an unlocked iphone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S 4g. I use my Iphone for my organization of my things to do. I use android more for having more fun. It you like the smaller screen and the way iphone operates than go for the iphone but if you like to have fun and be able to customize your home screen, root your phone and get custom Rom android is for.u. I like android better cause its funner lol. You should play with the iphone and sgs2, see what's more fitting for u. Best of.luck

yea, figured that out. but thank you,i guess im referring to overall functionality...assuming im not keeping both
I heard SGS2 BATISTA ROM enables real built in 2 way call recording, which we don't have. Also it will have official ICS update and has better camera comparing to Nexus S.
Iphone's for busy people, if you have curiousity and spare time, go for the SGS 2!

well, if you've bought a lot of apps for your evo, it might make more sense to stick with the galaxy S2, since you can bring them all over to your new phone. The S2 has a lot of rom development also, so you shouldn't have a problem fining a rom that you like.
If you like the screen size on the S2, you might not want the iphone. It's 3.5" screen already feels small compared to the galaxy S, so it will probably feel tiny compared to the S2. though iOS is pretty slick. If you have the means, try both and see which you like better.
Since this is an android forum, you'll probably get more people telling you go stick with the S2
don't buy anything yet..
wait for the galaxy s 3

[Q] best new android phone?

now dont shoot me but iv always had an iphone. i tried one of the first android phones back in the day, and was not impressed and never looked back.
NOW.....
i recently got a acer a501 tablet, and i am very happy with the current android a huge improvement, also i was playing around with my friends droid and was also very impressed.
so im kinda thinking to buy or kajiji trade for a new droid.
i thought id ask the biggest droid community what you opinion is on best droid phones out there, i know its opinion and different people look for different things.
im looking for- good battery life, ideally a good selection of roms, good for music play, dont care about video as i have a tab for that, not huge (iv noticed an up trend in the size of droid phones)
thank you every one, any input is appreciated

Galaxy Note or Nexus. Rogers also has the SII LTE which would also be a good choice assuming you want a smaller note without well the note part. They also have the Razr which .... well its a motorola phone and is inferior to the Nexus (Razr owners don't hate) and it's not the Razr Maxx with the amazing battery
Also if you are still in your contract and want a phone to ride out the rest of t I would suggest picking up a Lumia 710 off contract, they are $250
For Rogers, if you need now and have LTE data then, SG2 all the way.
The Galaxy Note is just huge ... How are you goign to walk around with that and talk on it? (my opinion at least)
The Moto Razr is not bad either, if you don't have have LTE this would be my choice. It's kind of skinny for my liking but that's personal preference.
The Nexus is a good choice since it has ice cream sandwich out of the box, if that's what you like. Not sure if the SG2 has ICS yet though or when.
If you wait, I think SG3 will come out soon maybe within half a year, hopefully sooner.
I don't know anything about rodgers, but as I understand it the best phones at present are:
Galaxy note -- "huge" screen (and battery)
Razr maxx -- biggest battery (but you can't replace it)
Droid 4 -- physical keyboard
Galaxy/google nexus -- all the new toys and probobly the most numerous and timely os upgrades

Price is no problem I see?
Well you have a tablet and galaxy note is just to huge.
I should go for the galaxy nexus. Always fast updates, no slow htc widgets or other crap apps.
And not so much people have that phone, in my experience.

[Q] Hi people! a little question

Hi community of xda , I have a little question about two incredibles cell phones.
They are Samsung Galaxy SII and Samsung Galaxy Nexus , I am able to buy one of this , but I am not sure which is better , for this I am here and ask my question.
I want to see opinions of the people and with this I will buy one of the two.
Sorry for my poor english.
Thank you
From these nexus is better..because performance and display is better than s2.and the benefit of nexus is you will get the update of OS on time...sure...
Xperian8~ click thanks if it helps...
This should help you, check here.
Both have a huge community and lots of custom stuff to play with.
The display is nice and performance is not that different either.
Both phones have ICS available.
The biggest drawback of the nexus is no extra SD slot.
If that is not an issue, pick the one you think looks the best.
Edit: Price is currently the same for both on amazon too.
You can't really go wrong with either one.
WARNING:
I'm assuming you have the choice between the i9100 and i9250.
But if the choice is between the i9100G (Current batch of SGS2 being produced) and i9250, take the i9250 (gnexus).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380262
You should compare them on gamarena. I've had a little go on the SII and it's alright but I don't really like the look and feel of it. I've never tried the Galaxy Nexus before but it looks like it is a very good phone. The Galaxy Nexus has a slightly bigger screen (I like big screens) so I'd personally choose the Nexus. Also the I think the SII is slightly overrated and the Nexus is kind of hiding around the corner because a lot of people think that the SII is the best and blah blah without thinking about other phones (This is my personal opinion so please don't hate).
