Moving to the 3rd phone in 2 months ,,, - Samsung Infuse 4G

Ok,
So My last line on this acct is going to be upgraded. My daughter wants my phone, ( the infuse ) and i was gonna get her a new one, but since there is no infuse for a good price, I found a refurbished Samsung galaxy S2 Skyrocket on att. com for 9.99 . So i ordered that, and gonna give her the infuse ( brand new ) and i will take the S2, ( More Power ) she dont need all that power lol.
So now all the lines are upgraded, and we are all happy.
Just wondering tho, the S2 is LTE, my line, has a 200MB and hers will have a 300 MB since there is no option for 200MB, so when we switch sim cards, do i have to call and have the mb plans switch around? so i will then have the 300MB for the s2, and she will have to have the 200MB? infuse is not lte if im correct..
Thanks

I don't think that's possible. You can go in for a cross upgrade though, but then too your plans would remain unchanged.
But, if she was on 200, then her's will not be auto upgraded to 300. Even if they did, you can call back and set it back to 200. And then upgrade your line to 300.

Her phone before this one was just some cheap LG, that just had unlimited Internet, and not data. Does the S2 LTE Have to have some special plan or will my normal 200MB plan be fine?

ok, so basically, she will have the infuse but since the 300MB plan is the lowest now she will just keep that,
and i can keep my 200MB plan without upgrading, i just wont have "SUPER DOOPER HIGHSPEED" LTE on my data, which is ok for now since im hardly even in a 4g area, let alone barley 3g. so for now we can just swap phones for the most part.

Seems like you & her would burn through 200-300MB pretty quickly, no?

Just by downloading apps will past that 200-300 mb no? Unless you use wifi all the time.

Can't find an infuse for a good price??? There practically free right now!
Big Dogg Infuse I997 ZeusB5 ICS!

my plan is a 200MB most of the time i use WIFI, other wise i shut off my data if im not using it when im away from wifi. I dont download apps or huge files usually on the data. im not a huge facebook fan, and dont need constant data updating etc, when all that can be done on wifi. I will eventually upgrade the data, if LTE does ever come around here. but Western Michigan hell 3G JUST got here, and it isnt EVERYwhere here yet. Just spotty.
Her 300MB plan, she will have to keep an eye on it, shes pretty good tho about it.
as for another infuse, there $50.00 on the site, thats not bad, but since i seen the galaxy s2 skyrocket, for $9.99 ( used) i went with that. even tho i do like the infuse, but hey faster speed, dual core, vs single, was really the only difference between the two, in my opinion.

Odin it. Return it. Get it from Best Buy. Free. I would. Then get a case, backup battery and it will cost you the same as the phone. That's what I would do, if I were you. I got it in July for 50 at Target. So you should find this free now. But that's just me.

Does AT&T require their LTE phones to have different data plans than their HSPA+ or 3G phones? I want to get the LTE Galaxy Note sooo bad, but I don't want to have to change my plan up or have to pay for a more-expensive plan if I go through AT&T... They've dinged me in the past for using my old iPhone 3G without a data plan when they did that whole 'mandatory data plan' thing with their smartphones.

Unlock
In order to avoid that whole "mandatory data" thing (I got blasted too at first) all you have to do is UNLOCK the phone. when it is unlocked the phone won't communicate with AT&T telling what phone it is that you have and rat you out .
I haven't had trouble since! Just don't go on the internet cuz it will cost you but I'm sure you already knew that.

Are you saying that with any unlocked phone AT&T doesn't know what it is and therefore you don't need a data plan?

[Q] captivate and AT&T's basic phone unlimited data plan

Hey guys, my 1st post here.
i am on AT&T and i am going for galaxy s device, obvious choice being captivate, but i want to know if i have basic unlimited data plan (the one for my current SE w760, $15/month) will continue to work? i am going to buy captivate from ebay, not directly from AT&T, so can i still use non-smartphone data plan for captivate? cuz if im not getting unlimited data, i will prefer going to Vibrant.
It will work fine, but AT&T will eventually notice and switch you to an "appropriate" plan.
thank you for the reply, but then what if i go for Vibrant instead of captivate? that way AT&T cant change my plan to smartphone plan right?
It depends on whether they have the Vibrant's IMEIs in their database. It's possible they don't, but it's possible they do.
But then you would have to get an unlocked Vibrant, and would you even be able to use the 200MB on the smartphone $15 plan since you'd be using EDGE (I'm assuming the Vibrant doesn't have AT&T 3G).
I'm good friends with a manager from an AT&T store, and yes, it will change, unfortunately, even if you got the Vibrant... Had to ask him pretty much the same question for a friend of mine, and they manage to see that you have a data/smart phone pretty quick.
yeah that is true, clocking 200MB on EDGE is not that probable, but that is my deciding factor. if i can get unlimited 3G on captivate (i guess AT&T no longer has an unlimited plan) then i would go for captivate else i would go for Vibrant, as vibrant is better in many aspects than captivate, especially less bloatware and more useful apps pre-loaded.
And you can get an unlocked Vibrant?
thats a shame, but then in that case Vibrant is better choice, as having a limited 3G is a pain, and that was the only reason i was going for captivate over vibrant.
and yes there are lots of unlocked vibrants on ebay from pretty reputed sellers.

In my case they didn't. I used my at&t Tilt (Kaiser) on MEdia Net Unlimited for the last two years. I never got switched back to the smartphone data plan or got any sort of nasty note about using too much data.
I had a unlocked G1 on At&t and after configuring the APNs I had unlimited data for $15 a month. Needless to say there was no 3g but it still worked with no issues.
If you have an old unlimited data plan, its called grandfathered I think. Anyways, if you have an old smartphone plan it should just stay the same as long its the smartphone, I still had my unlimited plan when I switch from iPhone 3GS to SGS. But I don't know if you have the smartphone unlimited data plan since you mention the 15 dollars one. I would go directly to AT&T cooperate store and speak in person cuz representative on the phone are just dumb! LOL so yeah meeting in person would be good.

200 MB on EDGE is easy to do on the Captivate. I'm already past that point and I do use Wifi at home.
so from all the posts, i think getting a captivate means i have to pay for smartphone plan, even though i should have an option to cancel the data plans totally (while some forums say that i cant cancel a data plan, but i dont believe thats the case if i have bought the phone at full price and not subsidized).
Now i am interested in seeing what will AT&T do if i go for Vibrant (instead of Captivate) and use the non-smartphone data plan on it. I doubt they will know what is connected as they wont have IMEI for Vibrant (some forums said that AT&T does differentiate their smartphones based on the list of IMEIs) so with Vibrant i should be able to use non-smartphone data-plan, what do you guys think about that?

AT&T requires ALL smartphones to have data plan regardless how you purchased it. Just ask any Nexus One owners.

Personally, if I'm only getting EDGE speed, I'll not pay any data plan for it. It's like you buy a top of line PC today and put a dialup networking for internet connection.

[Q] AT&T 2g Data-cap work-around? ? ?

Is there ANY way around the 2g data-cap?
i cant afford to upgrade at all, and would really love to use my phone at the end of the month...
i hit my limit about 4 days ago and have till the 28th when my plan rolls over.. this is freaking driving me nuts having to wait to be home or somewhere with WiFi to use my interent or check my various news sources...
I use my wifi when i can, but i stream pandora at work, and it chews up data pretty fiercely! Also get on YouTube alot and run the radar on AccuWeather...
When im at home or any friends' houses, i use wifi... but its not available in the warehouse i work at.
Im curious if there is a way i can use more data, or regain my UNLIMITED data i had with my milestone, but not pay for an upgrade. I can blow through 2g like a fat kid at a buffet. I averaged 5-6g per month with my 'stone.
There has to be a way around this... someone help me.

Wait for Onavo
If you can't follow the method outlined above then you may want to wait for Onavo to release their Android client.
Visit the Onavo website for more details--it's on their blog. It should be here by the end of the month.
I got my unlimited data like that. It works.
Yup..I have several friends across the forums that have done it. I can't seem to find an iphone 2g anywhere tho lol.
going to send my sim off to a dude next week so he can do it for me.
untill then I just pay for what I use. pretty sure I just hit another gb today..yay..$10 more

With ATT changing their plans around, does it still work? The data plans even changed as of yesterday.
(I got in on the $10 for 1000 msg right before it changed.)
So, I want to do this, but I have a question.
If I do it, and I get unlimited data, do I lose my Unlimited texts with unlimited mobile to mobile? Because if I do, I won't do it since that's how we save money on our phone bill by having "umlimited" minutes thanks to that plan.
I ask this because the Unlimited Data plan apparently adds the unlimited texting plan, removing the one I have right now, if I do it.
fml... seems like i cant do it, cause I'm not the master account holder on my family plan. I know if it gets changed or altered without her say-so, she would bust my balls.

I believe the "unlimited loophole" was closed a number of months ago. At least according to MacRumors.Com forums. I did it back in January (didn't even need an original iPhone just a dumbphone) with my iPhone 4 and an old Moto Krazr but it seems it no longer works.

no you dont all it changes is your data plan. PLEASE SEARCH
What if I have a dumb phone? Can I just take that in?
Nope, it has to be a smartphone unlimited data. The plan for the 2G iPhone was unlimited data with a bundled text, hence the $20 plan that everyone talks about. The AT&T billing system is set up to allow the unlimited smartphone data plans to transfer between phones, so this iPhone gateway allied you to get any of the smartphone plans. Then once you have it, your grandfathered in.

I had an unlimited $10 a month plan from my dumb phone days. I was using it on my captivate for over a year until I updated to the Infuse due to the captivate dying. They got rid of my $10 unlimited and placed me on the $25 a month 2 GB plan :-\. I was just wondering if there is anyway anyone has switched back.

Why Did you Buy your TB?

I just saw TB at Fry for $39 only 8gb card but still. I paid $229 for mine. That lead me to think Why did I pay so much when I knew the inevitable would happen with in in 6 months. Was it the privilege of own the first Verizon 4G/LTE phone, the speed that 4G produces (at least if you are in a 4G area), the rumor that it would be upgraded to GB, or the 32gb card that came with for all the tunes and movies?
Nope. Mine reason was this. I am a network admin for a healthcare enterprise. In being such my view was "there is NOTHING better for security of emails straight out of the box then BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server)." But my wife needed a new phone and we got her DroidX. I liked it! So I figured I would get one to "Test" at work. Brought in an iCrap 4, a DroidX2 and the TB. The TB beat them both for speed, robust hardware and stock UI (BTW all you fanboys - at what point do you question the fact that you must enter a credit card number before the device will even work?).
Did it measure up to BB for security of emails. NOT chance! But it is so much more fun to use for everything else that I cobbled together a one-off VPN certificate for it and am using it now as work phone.
That's my reason what's yours?
My reason is that I was due for an upgrade and I was sick of my Eris. With a discount through the company I work for I paid a little less than $200 and have not regretted it a bit. Things drop in price over time as new things come out. Has happened for a long time and will continue to happen. If you're always waiting for the next cutting edge thing or best price you'll always be waiting.

i got mine at best buy in june when my wife and i left sprint and moved to verizon. i payed $249 for the phone. my wifes phone was free so it worked out good. the tbolt is a good upgrade from my evo4g.
One reason only, LTE + grandfathered LTE unlimited data. I can always change to a different device and keep the contract if I buy outright, but I'm happy with my Bolt.
Got mine on release because I was bored of my R2D2 and it was the best phone out. I'm now a proud HTC fanboy.

ATT revoking unlimited data plans when upgrading to new phones.

Was just told that both ATT and Verizon are going to start revoking grandfathered unlimited data plans when upgrading to new phones. If that happens... I can't see staying with ATT as that was the only reason I was reluctant to jump ship. Straighttalk with the ATT sim is looking more and more attractive now. What are others thoughts on this?

Will have to look into that, as I'm on a grandfathered unlimited data plan. If that's true, I'll just never sign another upgrade contract with AT&T. Don't know if this is true or not, but if it is, I figure that as long as I have a sim card to swap into a new device (purchased elsewhere), and never sign a different contract, then I should be good to go. I wouldn't put it past AT&T to get rid of unlimited data altogether at some point, though.
Been using ST for a few months now.. My wifes and kids 4g phones are also on ST .. The only regret I have is not doing it sooner..
Are there any downfalls to Straighttalk? What are your download speeds? Do you still connect to HSPA+? Since they are using ATT towers, I wont notice any difference in coverage correct? I am just trying to make sure I am doing the right thing.
If they do change this I might change carriers after about 11 years. I am hearing they might start doing a family Data plan. If I can get my mother upgraded to a smart phone. My wife and I are all ready on Smart phone plans. If I can get like 5-6gigs for less then what 3 plans costs then I might give up my unlimited.

The speeds are the same.. On average I get over 5mb download on hspa.. Everything works, just set up the auto pay and forget about it.. It took about 2 hours for number to get ported after the online set up... Then you just delete att apns and set up ST apn and your good to go.
I'm not sure about ATT, but with Verizon, grandfathered unlimited plans stay unlimited for as long as you want, so long as you maintain the same plan. The catch? You no longer get subsidized pricing for phones. You either buy your phone unlocked elsewhere, or you pay Verizon's retail price for the phone.

If there is any truth to this, I will NOT be signing another ATT contract. My wife is on the 2GB plan but I am still "unlimited" and it's the only reason I am staying with them right now, even though I get throttled at 3GB every month.
If they pull this crap when it comes time to get a new phone... GOOD BYE ATT...
Straight Talk looks promising, read some good reviews, easy setup and I get to keep my Ice Cream Sandwich running Infuse.. lol
That doesn't seem to even be the worst part of it. According to an article that I read on ZDnet, sooner than later it seems that data is about to get even more expensive.
$50 a month for 1GB??????

I believe that's for family/shared data plans...if I understand it correctly then for $50 everyone on the family plan gets a 1gb (up to 5) it days 1gb starts at $10 with $10 increments totaling to up to $50 and $100 for 10gb...that artical was kinda confusing and I didn't even finish reading it...
Also that's Verizon...so we still got some time before art copys them hopefully... :/

Verizon vs ATT
Verizon has better data plans than ATT, their 4G network covers more area than ATT but they don't have SIM cards. This means you will not be able to use your Infuse.
If you don't plan to travel overseas with your phone, maybe Verizon is the better choice (I hate to say it).
Try T-mobile. Their plans in general are cheaper than ATT's but their coverage is not the greatest.
Good luck!

Mother was conned into share everything.

Well my sister used her upgrade today, and switched to the share everything plan after the guy told her we were using under 4gb a month. Lies? I've been consistently using 20gb+ a month.
Something sketchy is going on. It was good while it lasted, I guess.

Yup I switched to it (share everything) eliminated my unlimited data plan I think share everything was a ploy to get rid of all the grandfather unlimited data users
Sent from Vzw Galaxy SIII running Cleanrom 1.3
I switched too. We aren't heavy data users and the bill was dropped 10 bucks.

I GOT THE UNLIMITED BACK!
My mother got very pissed when the verizon guy said she's going to have $150 in overages due to my data usage this month so far. That didn't fly, and needless to say, the guy changed it back very quickly
So there is hope if you call to change it back quickly.
Use 100GB next billing cycle

There is no such thing as savings when considering share everything.

I consistently use around 500MB a month, how do you use 20GB?
Seriously though, of course it was a ploy to get rid of the grandfathered plans, to a degree. Considering ATT said at one time that most people use less than 2GB of data and Verizon's site suggests that most people use between 1-3GB of data, I don't see what the problem is allowing those on unlimited data plans to remain so. Thankfully, I have WiFi.

tell your mom to add me to her plan
I use about 15-20gigs a month on Netflix, and for tethering when I'm at work to play online games on my laptop, and to update and download steam games as I only have a 1.5 connection at home vs a 30Mbps for 4g

Glad you got it back! I use 13+ gigs on mine and I'm connected to wifi at home haha

For some there are. When we came back to Verizon from Sprint we piggy backed off of my in laws business plan. Him switching to share everything dropped his account by $150 and that is AFTER adding our 3 lines. I just use WiFi when I'm home, our home internet is unlimited through our local telephone company.

Well, I have a 10Gb limit / week at college, so all of my big downloads go onto the data plan. This month I downloaded autocad inventor 2013 for giggles. But at work I am constantly using google drive to transfer photos from my phone to use in my work place. I'm taking about 100-200 pictures a day of various tests. It is just easier to transfer them that way than pulling out the usb drive and fussing with drivers on corporate computers.
Yeah i didnt have $600 to pay for the phone to keep my unlimited plan. So i got pushed onto the 2gb plan last week when i upgraded the phone. Is there any way I can get unlimited back?? I really want to use this phone a lot more then i did my old dinc. It sucks the 2gb limit is going to **** me over. How did you get it back. I really want it back!

I'm on wifi at home and at work so I barely use any data.
I still preordered to stay on unlimited, just on principle.

Lesson learned, don't take free upgrades.... you don't need the latest greatest phone for cheaper more than you need a lower bill. Wait a few months then buy one in the xda classifieds when the next greatest phone comes out. Tons of people will be clamouring to trade or sell there three month old phone. Then they can get enough money so there one week paycheck plus what ever they sell there phone for will give them enough to purchase the galaxy s4.
It happens in cycles here, I bought a galaxy nexus for 250 on eBay like new for Verizon about a month ago. When this phone first came out it was going for close to 600 or more in the forums. Grant it, it is getting older but the tech really is not improving much. Unless you think a quad core will make a difference playing angry birds?
I will never willingly give up my unlimited data for the next best device. I may be behind, but guess what I'm streaming data over 4g in my house that has an unlimited Wi-Fi connection already, and i don't care.

Honestly,
Firstly, verizon has a pretty great network.
I came from ATT and I can attest to the problems they have with data. Being that I lived in Las Vegas, a highly urbanized center with over a million people, and actually one of the very first 3g networks in the country, a place that should (that is SHOULD) have a massive infrastructure, I can tell you that ATT has huge issues in terms of network reliability and consistency.
So now it comes to Verizon and their network. Seeing as they have invested a massive amount into building a pretty good 4G LTE network, and that they honestly do provide great service, is it too much to ask them to want to make a profit? Probably not.
Do not get me wrong, I am not in any way saying that they do not make enough money. My recent arguments with them that led me to nearly leave them should prove that. I managed to get my way, but that way actually involved me having to also give up my unlimited data plan.
What are you doing each month that requires 20gb of data. I would wager that a lot of that usage would be mobile hotspot, or using your phone in a rather unconventional manner.
So now the question is whether it is reasonable to expect you as the end user to use their product as they would imagine you should. You are not racking up 20 gigabytes of usage being an average user, are you?
So then they come out with tiered plans.
Guess what, you choose what fits your needs, and make concessions. We all do this every day. You do not NEED to have a car that goes 250 mph, you may purchase one, and you pay a huge premium for that.
Back to the point here.
For years and years, we in the united states had silver spoons in our mouths in terms of mobile data. It was always unlimited. The minutes and text messages cost us money, and the phone companies could not really monetize data, or they just did not want to until they noticed that they were losing calling minutes and text messages to apps that would do the same things.
Now they want to charge for the services they provide.
And people suddenly have an ISSUE with this?
Do you pay a flat rate for all you can consume water?
Or heating oil, natural gas or whatever else you use to keep warm in the winter?
Does Shell or Exxon sell you an all you can eat plan for gasoline?
Does water flow free, as much as you can use, forever and ever?
Data is more like a utility than ever, and in the coming years, decades, etc the world and commerce will be largely measured in access to data and services.
Just deal with it, and learn to connect to wifi, or do whatever else you need to do without sucking bandwidth and then complaining when they want to make you know... money off of you for using THEIR services.
So can i still cancle the phone upgrade and go back to the dinc? And will that lead to getting my old plan back? Ive only had the phone for week.
