Mortify ROM
Slim + Fast
Disclaimer
By downloading and installing any of these mods, you have accepted my terms of agreement. I.E Your phone gets messed up? Not my fault. Countries WAGE WAR over your phone fearing its doomsday capabilities....Guess what? NOT. MY. FAULT. *sigh* I could sit here all day and think of more cliche and childish things for a disclaimer. But I'm going to take a nap instead. Enjoy!
Mortify ROM:
This is FC09 under a new fancy name! See, my last name is Mortensen....so I named the ROM MORTify. Get it? Heh heh? Oh darkierawr you crack you up. This ROM is deodexed, rooted, debloated, with tweaks aplenty. Full change log below. I also included a new theme(thank you GituSum). If you don't like it, feel free to flash another theme. FC09 themes should work...but I make NO promises. As always, make a nandroid backup. NOTE: When you first sign into your Google account and accept the market's permissions, it will begin syncing and updating the market/Play. Wait until the sync icon fades from the top bar before you try and download shtuff. Or it could cause issues. Please enjoy this ROM and please hit the thanks button if you download and like this ROM! Thank youuuuuu

KennyGlass123. I used TPR for everything. He is also the best moderator we have, and ever will have on this forum.
Marcusant. For being my rock...
Flastnoles11. For liking way too many of my posts.
Nashdogg. I ripped Holo Launcher right out of your Gummy goodness
Ca1ne. For the swipeable toggles. It was great of him to release source right when I needed it.
Travmofosho. For doing helping me release v1. And for CRTON.
bilyhoe. For pushing me to release.
Suggestions made this what it is now. Thank you everyone that had a problem with anything. Thank you Samep.
Mortify v2 Final
Download - Here : Mirror
MD5: 889c86e0225a6579df329b7b5a6afd8e
Please report on everything.
This is a barebones ROM. I've taken out almost everything that can be downloaded from the Play Store. Things like Maps and Gmail have been taken out.
1. Download and place on your SD card.
2. Boot into ClockworkMod
3. I recommend doing a FULL WIPE.
4. Install ROM.
5. ???
6. Profit!
Do a backup!
I think it's pretty fast. I sometimes get instances of random lag. If you notice any of that tell me. I'm playing with kernels. I recommend turning off transitions
iSaint how I miss you...
CHANGELOG?
QUEST TO FINAL
Changes from Beta 5 to Final: Fixed browser FC. Nebula transitions. Updated QuickPanelSettings. Fixed social networking sign in. Added transparent MMS. Samsung Keypad. Smaller and even quicker than before.
Changes from Beta 4 to Beta 5: Replace ADW Launcher with Holo Launcher. Replace Samurai Kernel with Nubernal kernel. Swipeable notifications. Set sio and ondemand by default. Disable scrolling cache. CRT-ON.
Changes from Beta 3 to Beta 4: Huge rework of tweaks. The result is a quicker, seemingly more stable ROM. Bluetooth should be working fully now, and the Sprint Connections Optimizer is now fully working(thanks samep). It's also smaller
Changes from Beta 2 to Beta 3: Back to ADW, custom Samurai kernel with Mortify boot image, better battery images, stock GB transitions, I'm sure I'm forgetting things.
Changes from Beta 1 to Beta 2: Zeam launcher, Shadow kernel, buggy, ICS theme
Beta 1: ADW Launcher, Shadow kernel, ICS animations, stock theme

Barebone ROM applications to get:
This is a barebones ROM. Which means that I made this as lean and quick out of box as I could. These are some apps you may miss or want that can be found in the Play Store.
Gmail - Download from Play Store
Maps - Download from Play Store
Navigation: Bundled with Google Maps. Waze and Sygic also work too.
Calculator - RealCalc or any of the other many wonderful calc apps.
Clock - Download DeskClock from market. Or try another Clock/weather application.
Facebook/Twitter/Contact/Messaging scrollable widgets: Try AndroidProWidgets or Colorize Widgets.
Facebook: The official Facebook app is a resource and battery hazard. Try Fast Facebook or FriendCaster.
YouTube: Download from Play Store
Flash: Download from Play Store
G+: Download from Play Store
Picture editor: I recommend Picsart
Song Identifier: SoundHound or Shazam.
Cloud Storage: I recommend Google Drive. Edit documents and 5GB free storage. SugarSync is also nice. And DropBox I guess.
Anti-Virus: I recommend Avast! Anti-virus. But there are others.
Anti-Theft: Cerberus.
News: Pulse, Flipboard, take your pick.
Magazines: Large selection in the Play Store. But also take a look at Zinio.
Books: I like Google Play Books. Work well.
Video Player: For more codecs, try MX Video Player.
File Explorer: Try ES File Manager or Solid Explorer. I also recommend Super Manager.
3rd Party Keyboard: I recommend SwiftKey. Only app I have ever bought.
CALENDER: I will be removing the TW calender application for final release. I recommend MyCalender Free.

Go to this thread and download the .TAR file.
Then download the attached ODIN and victory pit and extract them.
Make sure your drivers are installed and then put the .TAR into the PDA slot in ODIN. Hit go and hope.

I am on CM9 rom right now. I want to try this out, what steps do i need to take? Download BML and flash it using CWM after wiping?
I have a quick question - is the difference in file size for the MTD download (130MB) and the Stock Deodexed Version(160MB) the result of it being an MTD version or is there some other difference between the downloads?

You need the mtd version cause you can't go back to bml without odining back to stock first. Just wipe data, cache, dalvik, flash fb15 mtd.

The MTD version is Stock+. Which is stripped down and debloated.
If you want I can upload an MTD version of Stock Deodexed.

hey...has there been a major update to CWM that I missed? I thought using the backup/restore function caused bricks...in fact, the CWM I have does not contain Backup/Restore options....
don't get me wrong, I'd love to have that option back, but I had read several places that we are not to do that on the Charge...

No. Look for the valhalla final thread on the dev section

Yes this will work on the valhalla black version. KJ6 is the new gingerbread kernel.
Edit: Just flashed it on valhalla black version to make sure and it works fine...
Should work on any of the new KJ builds.... I will try to check them all tomorrow and verify...

this may be a dumb question but i downloaded both this .zip and the valhalla final .zip and replaced the files that were in the system file of the theme's .zip and (the themed apps, etc.) so should i be ok to just flash the new combined .zip without getting bootloops?

Hey Racing -- thanks for the transparent dialer! If and when transparent Contacts become available, let me know. Again, great job!
-J
P.S.: I have one more small request -- in the notification screen (when you swipe down on the top bar), the label 'Galaxy S 4G' is sometimes obstructed by the 'Clear' button. My suggestion would be to just remove that label altogether, as I know what phone model I am holding in my hands

Hello,
Are you running a custom rom? If yes, reboot into CWM and choose backup and restore. Then choose backup. If on a stock rom I dont believe there is a way other than using titanium backup to save your apps. hope this helps.
Yeah I'm running Valhalla final but I'm kinda wanting to check out another ROM another thing the directions to doing a total wipe and starting over were would that be? I've rooted and installed this great ROM without ****ing my phone up yet.. I'm not a tech guru I'm a nurse.. I've got the free titanium backup do I need the paid version? And one more thing I tried the adrenalin shot and after I applied that my phone only charges to 99 I've got to power it back up to get to a 100 it's kinda strange.. I'm not gonna mess with the battery stuff cause I'm not ready for All that yet

The free version of TB works fine, but doesn't let you encrypt backups.
The 99% issue might be an issue with your battery itself.

However, restoring a backup that was taken with the 3.x version of CWM doesn't work -- it's broken on all GB kernels from bhundven (pre-Beta3) and drhonk. You have to use bhundven's Beta3 kernel for that.

Oh ok I was talking about the suggested battery mod. Thought you had it flashed

I will put up v1.1 soon & screenshots of what this lite weight rom looks like.
v1.1 changes: Less Bloat & Added TitaniumBackup
What do you guys want to see in version 1.2? I really wanted to make a lite weight rom with the newest kernel. Something that was simple & fast. Creating this so far was pretty easy.
Let me know what you guys want, I will try to make it

Are kernel changes possible or just rom changes? If kernel, I'd like to see USB-OTG Hosting enabled so our SRs can recognize a USB flash drive and be able to read/write/transfer files. I think it involves changing a flag to "Y", but requires the kernel to be decompiled/recompiled which is above my pay grade!
rom updated to 1.1.. screenshots posted
just Rom updates right now, no kernel stuff.
I will work on a toggle mod and adding perm battery icon so its in one ROM. Once i figure this out i should be able to add anything i want.
Looks good, I'll give it a shot.
Does this ROM's TW include 5 docks or 4?

I loaded this up last night. I was running SilverRom..
I wiped data, cache & dalvik
I did not format system
Flashed rom
Restored 19 user apps & data with TB
So far so good, seems very responsive, I use ADW launcher and it plays together very well. Battery seems much improved so far. I had 48% when I went to bed at 11 last night and still had 44 at 730AM!
I prefer minimal roms, so I can add what I WANT
Thanks for your effort!
The 14 toggle mod would be nice.
BTW...I'm on Straight Talk and I get 4G around 6-7mb, 24mb wifi, video camera works great, no bloat, me likey!

Kinda stuck, maybe you can help..
When I deodexed the ROM so i could add 14 toggle mod, I loose Market and APN settings and get no data. It happens after the deodexed and not even adding the toggle mod app/framework to the rom.
I also cant figure out how to get of that ATT Ready2GO crap

I got rid of all my ATT bloat by either just uninstalling from app manager or remounting /system as rw and deleting them from /system/app. I was able to get rid of all of the remaining ATT bloat. I did start from the rom and radio from cdshepherd's thread (1509978). Can't remember if I had to remove R2GO or if it was already removed. Anyhow most were removed when I remounted /system rw. I think there were only 2 that I was able to straight uninstall from app manager.
your not using android kitchen to make the rom?

Hey guys this is my first public showing so please be easy on me. This Rom is based off the latest CM and has been highly optimized for speed and stability. I have not done any theming to this rom as Theme chooser combined with the ADW launcher offer a vast array of themes for you to choose from. I have spent countless hours trying to discern the best combinations of Oom settings, low mem values, cache pressure, heap size and many other tweaks and optimizations. I opted to include as many of these settings/values into the actual boot.img's ram disk in the init.rc & init.supersonic.rc, rather than through init.d. I feel there is benefit in having pre-existing parameters rather than relying on a script to hack in the tweaks.
This ROM is for all the people who love aosp but may not have the ability or know how to mod and tweak themselves. I designed this to have the best "out of the box performance" available for our device, while retaining functionality and reliability. Satisfaction Guaranteed or your money back.

Additional screens/settings
Please feel free to let me know what you think, any problems you may encounter, or requests that you may have.
For optimum user experience and an incredibly snappy interface please do the following with your rom set up.
Set SD read ahead as mentioned in OP.
In "Spare Parts" turn both "Window & Transition animations" to fast, or even better, off completely.
In ADW settings/Screen Preferences/Desktop scrolling speed/ set to 0 (zero).
Performing these steps will drastically speed up the ui with this adw launcher.
Additional screens
My personal gaming settings by request-
1) Kill any other background app before gaming.
2) Clear cache (I use system tuner for both the above)
3) Ensure SD read ahead is set to 4096 (This should be done regardless, sorry will fix next release)
4) In settings/cyanogen settings/performance/cpu settings/set min cpu to 1036 max to 1152 governor to performance DO NOT check set at boot
5) play game
Now for quads things are a bit different. Let me start off by saying that in real world day to day use, quads mean absolutely nothing and are in no way a representation of a quality user experience for a given rom. I use quadrant standard to test different tweaks I have made. I do this in a very controlled way. Make all runs on a fresh install having only signed in to google account and cancel sync manually through settings/accounts & sync. All the parameters for gaming settings above are used, in addition go to settings/cyanogen settings/ uncheck "surface dithering" (this helps 2D frame rates), check "Use 16 bit transparency" (this will help 3D performance.. minutely), reboot. Allow device to rest for 30 minutes, reboot phone, allow 30 more minutes at rest with screen off. Run quadrant standard, five runs back to back recording score for each, then average those numbers. Close app, 30 minute rest, repeat, this is done five times, I then average all my "averaged" scores. Currently on the rom available for download in op my running average with these steps is 1640.
I have found that with out fail my phone, hw 0004, will ALWAYS have the best score on my fourth run. Unless I make more than 5 runs then number 7 is king. The screenshot in the op is from a seventh run.
Nice! Sounds like a great rom. Welcome to Dev land!

Actually, no COD is not baked in, nor are any init.d scripts other than dta2sd. Feel free mod and tweak at will. I also did not include any of Papa's build.prop tweaks. I'm pretty sure that his script checks for repetitions and corrects, so you would be safe there as well. You ought to run it stock for a bit before you determine what tweeks to incorporate. It may pleasantly surprise you.

Does the MMS fix found here work with the latest version of this ROM? I tried testing it out yesterday with some 2.7.*.* build and it took a really long time to send and then a while later I got a text from 99999999 with a whole bunch of symbols, which I heard is the cause of SMS Split not being enabled but I couldn't find the setting for that under the messenger app.

they may not install correctly (i may have forgotten to add the script)
pull them out of the zip file (/data/system/theme)
dump them into /sdcard/miui/theme
(or just put them on the sdcard and import them one at a time if you arent using root explorer)

Thanks. Another question, do we still need to flash 2.3.23 first and then the new 2.8.10? Or can we install this new version with no hassle? ORRRR do we have to first flash 2.3.23, then 2.7.27, THEN 2.8.10? Haha.
The original post only lists installation directions for 2.7.27 so just making sure on how to install this correctly.

OK, found themes in your zip files and moved to miui/theme. I do not see the one you have posted screens of, which one is it.?
Only thing I noticed is memory usage seems high, always in 468 to 478 in red.
This is from OP "Now with moar Weather widget (look for sexy weather lockscreen in here)" where?
Thanks again for great work and keeping us up to date.:highfive:

According to the "OP" if you are not in 2.7.27 then first flash 2.3.23 boot up, establish internet connection, then flash 2.8.10. If on 2.7.27 then simply flash 2.8.10
