Custom ubuntu for android phones

As most of you might know it is possible to install ubuntu on phones like the nexus one and the X10. But ubuntu isn' t really usefull in the way it is now (I mean that it isn't usefull on phones). So I thought it should be possible to customize ubuntu for phones so it becomes more touchfriendly, faster etc. (like a UI similar to the netbook version of Ubuntu, with lxde as desktop environment and replacing big programs which use a lot of memory for lighter alternatives). Than ubuntu might actually become really usefull for phones.
What do you guys think? And is there anyone who would like to help creating this customized ubuntu-version?

I think that would be awesome! I'm not really a developer but I'm great at beta testing!

Are you asking members to help you in creating this OS?
Or are you asking if someone would create this OS?
Helping to create although I'm new to this I think it is interesting to learn about. It's not like I'm new to ubuntu and stuff, but I'm new to customizing it for phones.

I would love this for the incredible. 10.10 comes out on October the 10th including the ARM version so I don't know if you want to wait for that plus I don't know what kernels support loop devices. Other problems are drivers and the touch input/onscreen keyboard.
Anything to untether us from Google!
What's wrong with just removing GNOME and installng LXDE? Lol it's not really that hard if you know how to use aptitude.
Ok since xrecovery had been released, we can pick up the work again. we need to figure out how we can make it flashable for xrecovery i think

[Q] Android on iPad 2(Because TouchPad runs twice as fast on iPad 2)

So, if TouchPad runs twice as fast on the iPad 2, why don't you guys, devs, try to install Android 2.3 or Android 3 on an iPad 2, and see the results? I believe it's possible because Android is Open source(ok maybe Android 2.3) and because you guys have dual booted iOS with Android on an iPhone. I don't believe it's silly, because you might get some data. I believe it's worth a try. Opinions?
+1 from me. I think it's a brilliant idea. I think though that the whole attempt won't be a walk in the park even in the very early stages (ie: no 3G/wifi/BT working etc) due to drivers. I say so because of the fact that I haven't been able to find a 'modified' f/w for the iPad1/2... at least just yet!

Apple hardware is nice... Real nice. So weather you like iOS or not, I think Honeycomb on the iPad 2 would be sweet.
It is my understanding that this will become more feasible when Google releases the source code for Honeycomb, as they are holding onto it for now.

I got a Galaxy S II... wtf? I'm just asking because I don't think I'm the only one that wants to see Android on iPad...
I would love to see honeycomb on my iPad - and to the guy trolling **** off dude. Apple makes some sexy hardware . I also have a Galaxy S II and an iPad (and a MacBook Pro), and I'm not here bashing companies. ****ing dumb fanboys against Apple - its like.looking at Engadgets comments on every topic.

I too have been wondering if there has been any progress putting android on ipad?
Gingerbread would be alot sweeter than ios on ipad 2. And. Agree apple hardware is stylish and bomb.
I would also like to see an android tablet running ios. That would probably be really really hard. There's nothing wrong with apple. Apple ftw

My work gave me a free ipad 2 to keep, but iOS just isn't working for me (the app selection, it turns out, isn't really as great as people make it out to be - games being the sole exception.) And running iphone apps on ipad just plain sucks - they don't scale to the screen size nearly as well as android apps do. Plus, not having a universal back button is downright annoying.
Anybody know of any android ports that are in progress?
hi
I'm probably resurrecting an old post. I have a spare ipad 2 that I would like to android. Is this still possible?
Could someone direct me on how this can be done, jailbreak etc, or maybe direct me to the correct thread if it is possible
thanks in advance

WebOS on Droid Charge

With the announcement of webOS moving to a open source platform, am I the only one wishing for a port of webOS to the Charges' hardware? Sure its not the most powerful phone or neither does it have the strongest developer base, but I'm still hoping for it one day. This is coming from a person who had a Palm Pre Plus prior to my D'Charge, so therefore I'm very familiar with the way webOS works and I still today miss it the fluidity of the platform. So let me know, am I alone?
In theory, I suppose it could be done, as WebOS is also Linux based. However, it would take a LOT of work-I think the time put into such a project would not equal the number of people who would want to use it.

+1 I'd love to see that, but CM7 and/or ICS comes first!
I think most people would rather see ICS ported first...

In all honesty I would like to see ICS before I would like to see WebOS, but I feel like these ports would be coming from different teams. From one corner their will be developers working to get ICS to all non-nexus devices and in the other corner their will be people working to get WebOS on android devices and once its done here it will be picked up by other developers and tweaked to work on the particular device they're developing for.

Like the OP I too am a webOS convert. WebOS definitely has its strong point over Android ( no tomatos please ). But until HP gets their act together and decides on a reliable direction webOS has no chance or future.

Call me crazy but I would also like to see a wp7 port as well. I'm really liking the look of it and all the wp7 apps in our market don't do a good enough job of recreating it, unless you dish out some money.

WP7 is impossible. One, it's closed source. Two, it's not Linux based, unlike webOS and Android.

Yea, I knew it was going to be impossible. They did manage to dual boot Android and WP7 on the HD2. One can dream though, right? Lol

I guess we'll have to wait and see, I even dusted off the old Pre Plus today and played with it for awhile and when I went back to my D'Charge I kept catching myself swiping up to get out of my email.

just not enough developers over here...HTC is big in the development department...they have lots of development going on over there, not so much for our Samsung. Then again we got sicker screens and thinner devices..

With the release of Isis (the open-source webOS browser), is there any chance of it being ported to the Charge, or Android in general?
Also webOS. I would love to have webOS on this phone.
not going to happen

Well it is possible but a dev would have to take an interest in it and considering this phone has kinda died out with the exception of a few that's not likely to happen

Will anyone be porting Open WebOS to the Inspire?

Just wondering if anyone is going to be working on WebOS once it becomes open source to port it to the Inspire.

Don't get your hopes up. It will be a beast of a job to port WebOS, and it will only happen on our phone if a very dedicated developer decides to work on it.
if you are interested in owOS I am part of a group that will be developing the OS and looking into manufacturing a phone to go along with it. If you are interested you can find a little more information at our site phxdevices[DOT]com
I'd like to see this too. I'm a full blown flashaholic android junkie now, but was a WebOS fan before I discovered my love for android.
