41mpx? What are ur thoughts

exciting
It is just amazing how Nokia can strike mobile business with these kind of cameras. For example now the Nokia N8 can beat any other mobile phone with camera's image quality it has.
I'm just little bit confused why they chose Symbian Belle as the operating system, as it could have been the new windows phone. Good thing is that the phone is more stylish than Nokia N8, imo . But can the camera be really with 41MP sensor or are they just faking it, lol .
Nokia has also uploaded sample shots to flicr, weird thing that they didn't upload full resolution pictures:
ttp://flickr.com/photos/nokiaofficial/6788332514/in/photostream/
But for what? In everyday use just like a camera is about 5mpx with good optic and i can watch this pic with good quality on my PC screen but with this one from nokia i should buy my own cinema to use all "potential" of this camera ^^.
Nokia is just trying to hard... 41mp's.. is just .. LOLZZ... They cant beat IOS or Android with a freaking camera :S
They said they'd be releasing a similar device with WP7... I'm a bit excited though I don't like the aesthetics.
The uncompressed images are available online but are huge. I downloaded the climber one and its truly amazing how detailed it is when you zoom in on him.
Its a lovely phone and a lot of people interested in it won't be put off by belle os as they will be more interested in the camera itself so, with android using more cpu than symbian, its no surprise they chose their own os rather than jump ship when they have a deal with microsoft to use wp7 on most phones and phase out symbian eventually.

That's just rumour. They said similar tech would make its way into other models which people assume means wp7, which to be fair is likely, but they haven't actually come out and said as much so it is not official.
I don't know that they would debut this then bring out wp7 version rather than waited til a wp7 version was ready. But maybe next year will see wp7 model?

Very true, I'd even take a meego version. Symbian just feels too droidish to me.

Apparently that's because Nokia wanted to make it more like Android.
It seems a good phone but I personally would like it more with wp7 or ics on it.

They didn't do Windows phone because Windows phone doesn't support this type of stuff, neither does Android fyi.
Its nice, its a camera with a phone.

With Nokia, I think the polycarbonate unibody should be standard. Their other form factors don't quite blow me away. I think with the windows 8 kernel overtaking the position of a kernel soon to celebrate it's 10th birthday, a lot more will be supported.
41 mp is an overkill. Another problem is the OS, why risk buying a phone with a dying OS?
From what I've read they have been working on this project for about 5 years. So it was built along with symbian so they couldn't switch at the last minute. Also from what i understand it doesn't actually save the images as 41mp. It captures a 41mp image then shrinks it to 8mp. Which give an amazing image.
^ Thats just a option. You can shoot and save 38 Mega pixels.
Symbian isn't as bad as some make it out to be.

That's not correct, they didn't use android because they said it would make them just another android phone maker and only went with belle os as the phone was started on before their deal to switch to wp7. That was from an official interviewed about it at mwc.

It does save higher than 8 mp, some of the demo pics released are huge, but default size is five mp minimum.

If you say so. Android and Windows phone doesn't support it. That, and the fact its been development for 5 years, and the fact Symbian supports it.

The new phone's camera is really something. I don't believe that it's an overkill. Every phone has it's personality to reflect it's owner. And if you're the person who would not like to carry with him his bulky DSLR all the time, this phone is your buddy.
But I really wish the OS is not symbian. Symbian is good but it's UI experience is far comparable to Android's nor Windows'.

I have been using Samsung Omnia i900 for last one year guys. Now i intend to get a new phone but there seem to be alot of options out there and it made me confuse. Everyone has an edge over the other in some regard.
I almost went to get an HD2 , My reason being that it can run BOTH OS, WinMo 6.5 and Thanks to dev at xda it can also run Android almost as well. And i am a freak in tryin all the new stuff related to diff OS, so that gives me an edge for HD2, however its touch screen although capacitative wasnt as impressive as iphone 3gs.
And i m not sure how good android is, would the phone still be upgraded.
Please vote for what you think is going to be overall a better choice to go for now with regards to,
OS
Apps
Hardware
Future Development

i agree with ipanda, the hd2 is good but its excessively large screen mixed with the type of lcd it has means the colours are all washed out, the galaxy s has good multi touch and games but the gps is crap, the iphone cant get a signal and the nexus one is just a desire without the optical trackpad and less ram lol
umm Nexus One is also abit cheaper i guess.... Optical trackpad doesnt really matter i guess... but currently its official software doesnt support Multi-TOuch which Sux.
Galaxy doesnt have a Camera FLASH... HOW the hell can Samsung miss that ... LOL
I am tilted for Desire.. But tell me one thing. Is the Android stuff really cutomizable? How about apps like superb 3d games in iphone.. Does android market has similar stuff?
And the MAIN Qs for me...... Whats the future for Desire? I mean new ROMs and New Android OS v3.0 or so will be available for desire or atleast custom roms maybe ?
I heard Android 3.0 is comin after xmas... i really want a device which can be updated with time
Eh... uh.... HTC Desire HD
hey...
and HTC EVO 4G???
my vote is for HD2..
I see I will have to raise my voice a little, HTC DESIRE HD IS GOING TO BE ANNOUNCED 15TH SEPTEMBER, IT WILL HAVE 4X THE POWER OF HTC DESIRE AND 8MPX CAM WITH DUAL LED FLASH. ALSO IT WILL HAVE AN AMAZING 4.3 INCH SCREEN AND ANDROID 2.2
IT WILL BE MOST PROBABLY CHEAPER AND WILL HAVE BETTER BATTERY LIFE. AND AT LAST, HDMI AND KICKSTAND.

Hopefully my link worked. If carriers are not a problem, then I think Sprint's Epic 4g is the best phone out right now. From what I have read there is no GPS problem. It also has a larger slide out QWERTY than Droid 2,it has camara flash, and 4g - if your in covrerage area. Lag problems are also gone. There is the ability to cut off touchwiz in favor of android launcher as well. On my Captivate, the camara takes great photos without flash so camara quality is superb. Plus it has about the most capable CPU you can find coupled with the best gpu available. I bought the iphone4 on day 1 and returned it on Captivates release day and have not regretted it. And yes, its very customizable. Just pick a carrier with options because you can always trade it out within 30 days.

Completely bull****.
No Evo 4G option? Now that the bugs have been worked out it's tits.
yeah my last phone was a vogue so I don't have much to compare it to, but there are already people saying they took back their epics after having AMOLED burn-in issues, bad buttons, no gps, etc.
Out of those phones, I think the HD2 has the best value considering its around $100 cheaper than the other ones, but with similar hardware specs. However, I've never owned any of those phones, so I could very well be wrong.
On a side note, if you are really into putting on different OS's and would like a change, you could take a look at the n900 (slower processor but could be overclocked) or even upcoming Nokia N9 (Though it seems like Nokia phones don't receive much love in this forum) . They're going to have the Meego OS, and developers have also ported Android 2.2 to run on the N900 aswell.
Seems like competetion here is between HD2 and Galaxy S, But there is a price difference of 200$ between these two phones, WHich is kinda alot
Extra 200$ for AMOLED 16 M screen, i guess thats the only hardware part where Galaxy/Desire are better than HD2. A small diff in RAM too, but otherwise all hardware specs are similar.
HD2 probably gets bad battery life with android and you could run into some weird bugs, they've done a great job with android, its what prolonged my touch diamonds life. Win mobile is dead, haven't looked back since I got my Evo. Best phone I've ever had, no regrets but there's always something new coming out.

HD2. Got 4 microsd cards, 3 running different builds of android the other running win mo. Depending on my mood or need for a particualr app (sat nav/games etc..) I just boot into whatever suits, HTC & Microsoft pretty much ditched this phone after the US launch yet XDA have given it a fresh start and pushed it back to the top of the smartphone list IMO. If you like playing about with your phone then there is no other option, the others are just phones in comparison
I have been usin WinMo devices for last 2 years or so, but i guess WinMo is kinda dead end now. Even if i get HD2, i will like to use Android on it for a change, So why not just get an Android set with No bugs
Well i am still compiling up my money... got 400$ by now That shud suffice for HD2, but i guess i gotta wait and save some more for Galaxy or Desire.
Why are people voting Galaxy and Not Desire ? I mean its almost the same hardware.... and Desire has a bigger community here i guess.... Htc phones usualy get new updates while i m not sure samsung will keep up the updates for their phones :S
Some news of a HTC pyramid have appeared. It is going to have a 4.3" qHD screen dual cored running android.
Going to be on T-Mobile.
Can this phone take the HD2's crown?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
It's a very level playing field right at present. Any new devices that come out now are more likely to be evolutionary rather than revolutionary.
HTC stole a march on the market and took their competitors by surprise with the HD2, but i don't see that happening again for a while.
Its a 1.2ghz dual cored.
I guess the xdas will wait for like a super phone that makes the others looks like flip phones?

Dual core, not dual cored.
We'll see how much interest it gets. HD2 got so much interest because it was available everywhere to everyone.
There are many Dual core phones coming out, but to beat the HD2, its need to be able to have different OS's on it

Agreed XDA and DFT did it. If the rumored internals are true then I expect it will be a device that if cracked has the potential to be an actual Hd2 upgrade. I have an account upgrade waiting so I will love my Hd2 and see if this wonder hits the world or not. May make a great 2nd phone.
Maybe we've all be spoiled by the HD2, but I still don't think any currently-announced dual cores have the effect that it has like the HD2 did. Like DirkGently1 said, they've all been evolutionary thus far but none has been revolutionary...the Atrix came close, though.
LG releases two new gb phones of the "optimus" line.
http://tinyurl.com/65lt3sd
What bothers me here is how they do something like this for some ghetto phones but didn't do this for a flagship phone? or instead of devoting putting more manpower towards the issues with our phone we put people to work putting 2 new gb devices out. Feels like the whole Samsung debacle all over again.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
You answered your own question. The company makes money selling new phones. We have already purchased our phones. Samsung did it, most other manufacturers do it, it's just how they roll. If they can make money pushing a new product before they update current devices they will put current on the back burner. Money money money.

Yea your right and I know it....doesn't make me feel any better about it. Pisses me off actually. Samsung damaged their rep badly...you would think LG wouldn't make the same mistake. If they took care of us we would be repeat customers and would use word of mouth to spread LG glory. Instead the reverse will happen. Its bad business.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
They damaged their rep with heavy users, but the majority of people don't give a **** about upgrades and all that. I completely agree with you, it sucks. But from a manufacturer standpoint, the major players are doing very well. I mean look at the success of the SGSII and the hype for the Hercules. Technology is moving so fast and new products out all the time for people to really mean it when they say #neveragain to Samsung.

Well HTC had the Nexus One
Samsung had the Nexus S
Motorola had the Xoom (which, to my understanding, the Nexus of Tablets?)
I've heard both LG and Samsung. I've heard more about the Samsung Nexus Prime, being based off the SGS2.
Samsung always has a Nexus phone based on their previous model. Why can't the Nexus phone BE the next big model like the Nexus One was? Nexus Phones should be the flagship of Android devices that all other phones should model after.... why has this gone?

I do tend to agree. The nexus s was not a major step forward in tech when it dropped. However if the timed the new nexus right they could make it a big deal. Give it things we want combined into one phone. Quad bands, radio, samoled, if timed right triple core,10x cam front and rear flash,HD front and rear record and playbaçk, I mean the list goes on and on and peoples desires vary but who ever makes it needs to listen to the consumer and do it right.
Success is based off consumer purchases and satisfactory after purchase. Not how much your beta tester goes ooooh its purdy.

I can understand Quad 3G bands. But just ask yourself: triple core? REALLY? What apps you need triple core?
I assume 10x you mean 10x digital zoom. REALLY? How many of you ACTUALLY used zoom when taking pictures?
HD front camera? REALLY? You can tell the differences of a downsized (to 800x480 or qHD) 1080i/p video?

Realistically I would love for the next generation Nexus phone to at least have 1ghz-1.2ghz dual core processor, Super Amoled Plus screen or SLCD with higher resolution than the traditional 480x800, 1080p video recording, 1.3 front facing camera, 8 megapixel camera, NFC chip, 5 inch screen without any capacitive or hardware buttons, 1800 mah battery and posibly dual stereo speakers. I think that would definitely be more than good enough and is more realistic to build. We honestly do not need anything bigger than dual core for these phones. 1ghz single core still gets the job done without lag as long as the software is built well.

There is no such thing as future proof. Technology doesn't stop. The good thing is that most top end phones should have everything you need to last for 1 or 2 years, as long as you are not the type of person that needs the hottest thing out at any given time.
every time I buy a new phone I think it's everything I'll ever need... until they come out with a feature I never even thought of....
I have an HTC Sensation with Mike1986's ARHD on it and it does everything I need and then some. My benchmarks are through the roof... but I can guarantee that within 2 years there will be a feature I just can't live without and guess what... I'll buy a new phone.
Gotta love/hate the nature of technology.

I got the iPhone 3G 2 years ago on contract and I was very disappointed with it. 10 months later I got the Samsung Galaxy S and I love it.
For me this phone will work for my needs for the next few years, but if I can get the newest thing out there when my contract runs out, I will.

19 phones our first year, how was android doing their first year? I believe it was 6-7 on an OS that anyone could use on anything.
ya just get what ever phone you like that has no problems
19 clone phones with identical internals for the most part. Very difficult to pull off, especially using mostly old Android phone base designs.

That would be sweet, phone tech is goin bonkers atm
So HTC are announcing four new smartphones at the end of this month.
I really want a ChaCha but the small memory and the fact it'll probably never get ICS are holding me back.
Do you think one of HTC's new phones will be an updated ChaCha? Even if it's just another low-end phone with a similar form factor? If I get one, it'd be replacing a BlackBerry so the touchscreen and keyboard is perfect for me, I just wish HTC would care about it a bit more.
So do you think HTC will bother upgrading the ChaCha? It's been around for a while now and prices have dropped quite a bit, so I'm hopeful they'll do a new one with slightly bumped up specs and ICS.
Bigger screen is main thing that would tempt me!
sent usin' tapatalk innit.
Screen is ok-ish..
More internal space + better battery
More memory and ICS is good enough for me, do you think it'll actually happen though?
I've seen new details and it seems the chances of a new ChaCha are basically non-existent, so my next question is, should I order one now or wait until after the new HTCs come out so the prices drop? Or has it already hit rock bottom at £119 anyway?
I highly doubt it. I think it wasn't HTCs best phone. And not what they're recognised for

Honestly I think it's very underrated, it's a great BlackBerry competitor, they just need to put more effort into it.

Yeah. Plus people looking for a BlackBerry styled phone may aswell get the BlackBerry. I personally think the ChaCha isn't the greatest looker and neither in specs wise

I have a BlackBerry at the moment but it's rubbish. I do, however, like the form factor and keyboard, and would very much like an Android phone with those features. If HTC brought out a new phone with a QWERTY, the classic "bar phone" form factor, and better specs than the ChaCha, it'd be perfect as far as I'm concerned.
Still have 3 months before I can change my phone; currently using a X10 Mini Pro.
Really would like a Mark II ChaCha with better camera and more built-in memory. The alternative for me is a Xperia Pro, but I prefer a candybar QWERTY...
Is there a way for us to petition HTC? I am tired of all the touchscreen-only phones in the market
Yeah. I know BlackBerry are rubbish. But I know lots of people who have them, 91% of students in my school have BB. 5% have iPhones and like literally 5 people have Androids. And 3 are my friends. So from where I'm coming from, and like all sxhools in uk, BlackBerry is more popular than the Android. So I think majority of the population will buy a blackberry.

BlackBerries are starting to lose their popularity a bit now I think. I'm seeing more iPhones and Androids every year. I even know a guy who's got a Windows Phone 7 phone.
Honestly I think a ChaCha with decent specs would be a brilliant device and would lure people away from BlackBerries.
We shall wait and speculate. I hope the next ChaCha will look nice.

i don't feel comfortable with touch screens, i just changed my wildfire for a chacha.
I think also, i missed a trackpad!
I always fear that someday, the screen breaks, even if a gorilla is blitzed in!

Pfah... I wonder why everyone calls this "Blackberry-Style".
I like this type of phone, I had a Palm Treo 600 that time where no one knew about Blackberry, and I had a Nokia E71 afterwards. But I won't by any Blackberry, because their Keyboards are worse than those of Nokia, Palm or HTC. And the OS also isn't good, but maybe QNX will make it better. But I heared that they don't have many options for synchronizing the device with the computer.

I'm using chacha currently, and it's very good compare to bb. Because still you can backup your contact via google, and it have thousand upon million free apps. With 512 RAm & same amount of ROM, it run smoothly with beautiful android sense UI..go on try it, you wouldn't regret it. Oh, and the display is crisp clear with the gorilla glass.
Yeah I've used the phone and a friend of mine owns one and tells me it's good, I'm just waiting to see if there's a new version being announced next week or not. If not, I'll probably buy one. If so, I'll wait for the new one.

Really? Here in Europe you only hear that BB is in trouble and losing market shares rapidly.

I agree competely. I personally just ditched my BlackBerry Pearl 9100 for the HTC Status aka ChaCha. I like it way better.... except for the low internal memory. I just managed to complete the root but I'm still learning (I'm very new with Android) and just need to partition the SD card so I can enable a2sd.
