g1 still running 1.0

ive had my g1 for about a week now and it is still runnning 1.0.
ive tried various ways to update it.
can anyone help me??
my phone is a uk g1, and when i go to settings>about phone there is no system update.

how can i get a legit update without rooting my device?

I remember when I first got my G1 on T-mobile here in the UK which was still on 1.0 I did something to force the phone to check for an OTA update because I didn't want to wait around ages for it to find Donut.
I can't remember what I pressed though nor have I had any success with google. There is a way to force an OTA update check on old versions though, I'm sure someone here will remember it...

yeah I remember I had no system update section either when I was trying to force an update, the option appears after 1.5 I believe.
I've been trying to find what ever I did to force an update check but it's been a while now and anything I can find on google refers to more recent updates.
What network is the phone on by the way? I'm not even sure any one other than T-mobile pushes out updates for the g1

You can ask your G1 phone to do a force “Check for Update”
You need AnyCut app from the market.
Create a shorcut on the desktop using AnyCut
- Select Activity
- Select Device Info
On the desktop select the new shortcut and scroll to the bottom. There is a button that will check for an update

I knew someone would know here, this is what I did on my 1.0 G1 to force an OTA update

it said checkin success, what happens now should it jsut start downloading??

You can use this file if you don't want to wait:
android.clients.google.com/updates/kila_eu/signed-kila_eu-ota-15632.a5e2aac2.zip
This is the euro full update to 1.6.
Copy to your sdcard, rename to update.zip and flash in recovery.

that link isnt working, nothing seems to working to update my phone.

link worked fine for me, don't try to download it on your phone (if you are), use a computer

Are you sure it hasn't been customised already?
Start the phone with [camera]+[power] then [home]+[power] and post what you see.
Also.. do you have a data plan?

i get unlimited internet on my device.

when i press power, home it says
e:// cant open/cache.....
maybe thats y the sd updates arent working

ohhh try searching google for "any cut force update" or something like that. I used anycut to check for updates. It's how I updated to cupcake before I rooted =)

This is a great looking "how to" but I can't get past the Google Activation screen to try it. I don't have service on this phone yet and wont for a few week but was hoping to root this phone and get started on trying different ROMs.
Anyone know another way to bypass the activation screen other than this one which did not work for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=588017

Try finding a friend or someone with data, and insert their SIM to get by it.

lol. I have VZW and most of my friends have Sprint or VZW. The only person I know with a T-Mobile phone is in Jamaica for the next two weeks (yes, I'm jelous). Just wish I could get past that screen.
I use Android on an HTC Vogue which was a Windows phone originally but when I get to that Google Activation screen it gives me the option to skip it. I'm hoping to flash the phone and use it via wifi in my house without activating it.

anyone know if its possible to use a Goldcard successfully that was made in a different phone? I can't boot up to make one but I need it to load a boot image on fastboot so I can boot it up. aarrgh...

ok well i have an Lg thrill Ive installed the "Thriller ROM" Also "Doomed Froyo Slim 2.1" and i have a problem with my apps so lets say you play Gun Bros and apps that have a link to get free points like warbucks or whatever.
Well for every app i use like that i cant open that page it says Unavailable.
Also since that has happened im trying to put my phone back to normal using this website with a tutorial but im not allowed to share it cause im new

I apoligize for the new thread. Im starting one as i couldnt find infomation.
The phone has been in hibernation for over 6 months. I just hoped that i find some way of extracting them someday and came across it today.
I short, I'm not very technical. I want to install the app from the thread below to back up my text/whatsapp msgs. However, i have no clue as to how to go about installing the app on the phone. I tried opening the attachment d/l link through the phone but it doesnt support the format.

What OS version does the phone have currently?
What firmware version does the phone have currently (preferably in Samsung's LetterLetterNumber format, i.e. KK2)?
Does the phone currently have any unlocks applied (Dev unlock, Interop unlock, custom ROM, etc.)?

Hi guys, I recently soft bricked my sidekick4G (because I'm new to the sidekick and stupidly didn't do enough research) after installing a ROM.
The Easy One-Click Root program rooted my phone, but for some reason wouldn't pop up any super user notifications, so I went into super user and checked the allow all; that seemed to work for installing my third party apps like Root Explorer.
So I remember I installed the red CWM or w.e it's called (Voodoo?) and that work fine, I can still enter it, I can also enter the orange CWM by applying the "sdcard:update.zip" (Which I thought to be forbidden).
So here I am now getting a robotic woman's voice on every boot saying "Convert data partition, system not available"
I know I need to use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1186954 to go into download mode and install ODIN,
SO.... My problem is that I cannot find the KD1StockODIN.tar file ANYWHERE, all megaupload websites blocked it, and risky torrents have already pissed me off enough.
If any of you have this file, can you Please, PLEASE attach it or upload it, or find a working link for me? I would really, really appreciate it.
Or
If there are any other alternatives to fix the dilemma I'm in, please let me know, as I am new to the Sidekick 4G.
