I'm on Tweakstock 1.4 but Ive been using Android since the very first day of the G1. I still find myself fond of the white and black theme, is there anyway someone could possibly make the flashable theme?
Wouldn't it just be easier to modify a custom launcher?
I have the launcher, I want the notification bar, color scheme, and icons as well.

To get a nice looking Froyo AOSP theme would require a lot of work. Unfortunately, there are very few themers left for the charge. So the odds are you are not going to see this happen unless someone likes that look enough to do it, or you learn how to do it yourself. Sorry.
Perhaps I'll try myself, I have plenty of time, could you possibly point me in the right direction?

I was wondering about "theme" based themes? lol Like video game themes, car themes and what not? I had some really bad ass themes on my old blackberry bold. Does anyone on here make custom custome themes like this?
wish i knew
By using an app like adw launcher you can theme your home screens easily. You can even them your apps, but not as far. There are several themes you can dl from the market, but adw also allows you to custom pick your home screen icons. Here are two that I made using adw launcher. Very easy and you don't have to be rooted to use it. Works on stock phones as well

uot kitchen. Gotta add though if you're doing a total customized ROM and you don't know how to change text and icon colors I get this feeling themeing is gonna be a nightmare for you...I mean its already a nightmare for some of the established themers (ashies for one)..good luck man! tis a tough rough you're going down. Get familiar with the kitchen, simply one of the best theme tools out there to start with.
I am learning alot everyday I learn fast.. but some days things just escape my mind..

I didn't mean any disrespect or anything..I just wanted to give you the small advice I have for themeing. It's tedious, time consumer and frustrating but in the end to have something the way you want it is worth every second of it. I gave up a while ago after I made my first theme, especially with how some of the ROMs push out new updates and base changes, it just became way to difficult to do it. I wish you luck man, its a roller coaster of emotions! But you should still get comfortable with the kitchen as it does a good amount of work for you starting off..
You can look in Inspire 4G Android Development thread.
Most roms using custom themes with different variants.
Is there anybody who could point me in the right direction on how to make my own theme? I would like to play around and hopefully one day get good at it too share.

Easiest way? Ultimate Online Theme Kitchen.
Messing with themes seems to be voodoo black magic - every time I tried to do it without UOT Kitchen I wound up with a phone that just crashed on the launcher all the time.
We at team Gummy want to make Gummy Charged a themer friendly rom. We want to make a wide variety of themes available through the gummy tool box. to this end we will be "sanctioning" themers. however we only want the highest quality themes sanctioned and released through the gummy tool box. we will have a list of requirements that must be met for each theme.
Team Gummy theme requirements:
1.Minium apk’s: These are the minimum, you can of course theme more apk’s
a. Framework-res
b. Twframework-res (Froyo)
c. Systemui (Gingerbread)
d. Dialer
e. Phone
f. Settings
g. Browser
2. All apk’s must be able to be decompiled and recompiled without errors. The exception to this, if the unaltered apk cant decompiled and recompiled with out errors.
3. All themes must be submitted to Team Gummy 24 Hours before release on any forum.
Sanctioned themers will have access to a Gummy Themers Drop box account.
Sanctioned themers will have early access to all updates and ROM releases.
Sanctioned themers will have their themes distributed through the Gummy Tool Box.
All interested themers post in this thread and i will contact you via pm.
I have no idea how to theme, but this sounds like a pretty friggin good deal

I just recently figured out the whole Android theming process, and I'm still very new to it, but my technical skills are fairly advanced and I learn quickly. I'm no noob.
I've only messed with the framework-res.apk, but I imagine the process is similar with other .apk's like the Phone, Contacts, Calendar, etc. .apk's. I also imagine there's different problems to run into when modifying other applications.
What IRC channel does everyone hang out on? I'd love to help out and create various themes. I have a few colored schemes in mind, and I've been planning on making my own Volkswagen theme for a bit. I actually created a handful of the icons already in my attempts to use GoLauncher's Theme Factory, but eventually stopped the theming once I discovered the fact that the Export function was busted.

I can't really use IRC at work, but thanks for the heads up.
There are so many images to edit in the drawable-hdpi folder, and I feel like I haven't seen the majority of them when using my phone. I'm just going to start modifying the obvious until I can get on IRC to ask questions.
Are these file names standard? If so, someone should create a tool similar to the GoLauncher Factory

So true. The only time I flashed one of his themes was on the fascinate and then I had to clean it up extensively so I would be satisfied with it. It was just sloppy. I wish him the best and hopefully he decides to take the time to theme a bit better.
Thankfully the charge has GrainOsand and you mike from the fascinate to theme! (I wish nitsuj would have gotten a charge instead of the inc2 as well but oh well)

He was to lazy to edit the .xml files for his themes. If you look at GoS themes, he makes multiple .xml edits to the status bar text, download text, market text. The little details in a theme make a big difference. You cant just swap out images and hope it works out. I also suspect he was a big time kang artist........

He didnt even take the 5 minutes it would take to zipalign. He left so many useless images that his frameworks were double in size. It was a shame he even put out something so sloppy, but at least he is gone now.

that will happen when we release the official GummyCharged GBE. FE is our stable "store front" rom, and is our priority at this point.. the gb leaks just dont have the stablility and reliability of source built froyo. once we release GC FE 2.0 then i will begin working on GBE.
So I am running the MIUI Rom and loving it but I have a question that hopefully one of you can answer. I tend to gravitate towards red themes and found a theme that I love called NeonRT. Problem is, there is a language issue in a specific app, and unfortunately it is Gmail. The body of the messages are in some rubbish. Now I realize there may be nothing one can do but does anyone know how to fix this at a programming level. I am decent with PCs but know squat about programming. Any help or advice is appreciated, Thanks!
And if anyone knows of another red theme out there, feel free to throw it up. I did find a theme called Red Crystal but prefer the icons and general layout of the NeonRT theme much better. Again, thanks and take care.
i have ran the neonBT GT and RT and finally stuck with the bleu one, but Gmail works great on all of them.
Your right they are nice looking...the crystal one is just to plain for my liking.
Bit I'm sure you could find different icons in a icon pack and use a different launcher. Like I'm on infused and running adw launcher ex and have the zoo York red icon pack but then have a theme foe the rom and can change just the icon instead of the whole theme but I don't know anything about miui at all so i don't know how it all works with it.

I finally got my computer working again, so I have some questions regarding rom cooking. Would I need permission to use ayOteddy's "Stock [email protected] Deo Rooted" as a base for my roms. And If I really wanna get into this, some recommendations for ideas even if I dont use them?
ALSO. Its well known that we do not really have a soft lanscape keyboard, no matter what keyboard used, right? Well that's wrong. Its been awhile since Ive used this keyboard, I used it on my old Optimus T actually, however, the keyboard known as "Hacker's Keyboard" has an option to always view the landscape keyboard even if a hardware keyboard input is present. Just thought you all would like to know that I figure my little discovery could be useful to you all ^_^ Welcome.
*** One more thing, does anyone know ways I can change the settings options and navigation + links? Like, the Theme Settings space for example?

I actually used KJ2 for TigerFusion without permission. I figured since ay0teddy retired long ago, he would not reply to my PM. I think as long as you give credit to him it should be fine.
I recommend using ASimmons Theme Injector if you want to port over a theme. Just remember that the Sidekick 4G uses hdpi. What I did for Froyo Iced Up was just change one letter in the apk.....the m in mdpi to h. If you don't do this, the result will be a brick. I had to use Odin to flash back to stock....lol.
And remember that the Bali kernel with keylogger removed will only work on KJ2. You can actually extract the zip and copy the contents from the kernel_flasher folder right into the update folder of your kitchen project.
Thanks for the keyboard app recommendation. I'll definitely try it out! Good luck with the rom cooking. :good:

Re: Thanks RicAndroid I was actually gonna theme the rom from each file individually though ^_^ and I could also use some help with another thing. How do I get the extended power menu? 0.0
Hats off to ayoteddy, sduvick, and krylon for the work they did. When all is said and done, those are really the people that pushed things forward and got the Sidekick 4g a couple useful 3rd party kernels.
As I recall, ayoteddy shared his stock deodexed rom so other people could have some fun cooking up their own custom. So, just credit him and move on. I don't think he'll be upset at all.
Make sure to also credit krylon and sduvick in anything you do. If you dig back into the forum, you'll see that they worked together.

That was way tricky. You need to add three pngs to the drawable-hdpi folder after you decompile the framework-res.apk.... reboot, reboot_ recovery and download. Then edit the strings.xml folder.... after that, it gets pretty hairy. I'll send you a pm with all the steps needed to configure the android.policy.jar file.
Oh, and thanks for the advice orange808!

Dude...I just thought of something. Why don't you make a custom Key Lime Pie theme? Just use the various images found on the net for inspiration....maybe you can make a kind of CM theme based on yellow and green...just a thought!
As for TouchWiz....ugh...I personally hate it. Why not go with Go Launcher? It is a bit on the hefty side but is very theme-able!

That is a great idea not gonna draw conclusions yet, but the whole green color seems to look nice on the SK. And I used to love Go Launcher, but it became so chock-ful of ads and weird buying with credits and just....it became a bit too much I think? I might poke around and try to find an older version of ADW and just break the market link so it doesnt upgrade to the new one. Which by the way, I wanted to suggest in case Holo Launcher starts to get old for you, it looks alot like the ICS update, spare the icons. But with a theme installed its gotta be the best ICS launcher I've seen yet IMO anyway.

Learning
Well, I tryed to set up the EPM for Sidekick from scratch. No go, it's different than a lot of other devices it seems. Could anyone direct me with this a little? Please? It would be awesome because I really want to learn some while building this.
I know I have a lot of questions, but believe me, I appreciate it more than you know and I love the community for all its provided help. I have one more:
Which file happens to be for the notification background? Have tried a few but see no differences :/
It is amazing how PDT and ayoteddy got all of this working. I tried editing the classes.dex file on my own, but it seems that the Sidekick 4G is a freak mutation of some sort.
I wound up taking a shortcut and used GenericGinger's android.policy.jar file. I edited the GlobalActions.smali file using Notepad ++ and added the reboot info from the public.xml located in the framework.
