Hi I have just brought a Samsung galaxy s which I really like but I have a 14 day return period and I am having some doubts.
Gingerbread has recently been announced and I am thinking that it is unlikely that the galaxy s will get an update what do you guys think?
When I had WM (touch pro 2) I could upgrade roms whenever a new device came out, I'm guessing this is more likely to happen with android on a htc device?
I suppose my question would be this, is there any devices which are being released within about a month which will be as good as my galaxy s but likely to last with good updates etc.
Sorry about my vauge questions I just dont wanna spend all this money on a phone to find support gets pulled at the first moment.
I don't think you should worry.
I haven't heard of any phones that will be confirmed to have 3.0 (Gingerbread) other then the obvious nexus one.
You will be able to download any custom rom that is written for Gingerbread. You don't really need the official update, do you? I know it is nice, but it shouldn't affect your decision of a phone.
Plus, from what I hear, the Galaxy S is pretty sweet.
samsung chairman has directed the mobile phone division to focus on the galaxy series so I wouldn't worry so much.

Honestly I don't think Gingerbread is aimed at phones at all. I think it's for netbooks and pads really.
Ok thanks guys, that's what I wanted to hear. I'll be keeping the SGS then
If you have a Samsung device, and you are not getting an ICS update, then sign this groubal ASAP people...

I am just sharing this groubal I am not the creator of it..
Regards
nice.
I dont have Samsung but i've signed it for you
while I agree it could be nice to have an update, you should keep in mind that ICS or not it doesn't change much... I mean, the SGS II got the update and with the touchwiz and all you can barely see the difference. Plus your phone won't get any faster so... Better hope for a custom ICS ROM for your phone than from Samsung
signed!!
Signed.. Rediculous.. ICS was released in December, it's April, and still there is no Update.. And even if there would be one.. with the damn ugly TouchWizz
On Samsung you will always get touchwiz..its not a nexus its not android sorry.. but I signed it for you

True, if I knew more about Android, I would make another choice.
By the time they push the OTA update the next best thing will be out. Find a good Rom. Will benefit you more

How many petition have we made? and do they really have any effect?
I did not want to mention a rival company, but Sony updated its entire Xperia line of 2011 to ICS, which means your competitors have realised that their customers don’t deserve to be frozen out.

Actually, they just pushed back the release date for ICS recently. We were supposed to get it in mid-march, but the WT19i will get it around end of may/early june. I bought my SE WT19i because they promised the upgrade for ICS, but two weeks ago they mentioned that if they couldn't make their rom perfect, they would even skip the 2011 line, and give ICS only for the 2012 line.

Also checked out the Jw4 value pack... meh. I liked the snap stills while recording feature, and the face lock with blink did sound great but execution was lack luster. My wife's GS2 phone seems to laggier on tw ICS than it was on tw GB.

One one hand that sucks, but given what I saw on Sammy's Touchwiz version of ICS it could be for the best. Sorry have not played with the Xperia line, don't know how Sony UI is. They seemed a little more concerned with refinement. But all OEMs are dragging their feet on this.

U r not getting the point ...when Samsung releases a rom or the libs , XDA devs can work full-on on custom roms like cm9,aokp etc ...no one cares for Samsung's roms we want the libs and some base ics rom to start off with...
Our cm9 port is yet to get a working camera and everyone is going crazy asking for ETAs
you know you are rooted when you use XDA more than FB
don't think that petition can solve the problem.... :-(
I have the Galaxy tab (first generation).
What Samsung said about Honeycomb: The size of the screen, 7''. (!?!?!?!?!?!?!?)
What Samsung said about ICS: Hardware. (!?!?!??!)
What I say for samsung: No more. Asus and Sony, wait for me.
PS: Samsung will do nothing, the only thing that wants is MONEY, MONEY AND A LOT OF MONEY.
True... At least they should release libs and files

You obviously have much better understanding then some of those who are new XDA, most likely because you own a device directly affected. Of course I and evolsam don't know all the nuances like you do. I myself only just noticed the SGS2 ICS ROMs are not as refined yet as the GSS ICS ROMs. The Galaxy S has had to port over most of the ROMs. Which has gone over quite well so why would it not seem like an answer for other Galaxy devices like the Ace and W. Barring an explainantion, the need for code source release in these cases is not something that is readily apparent.
Anyways I now know, and of course I'll sign, anything to aid the devs. That's all you needed to say or anyone needed to say. Maybe more like evolsam will then too.

signed but won't change anything
Okay, so we all know the likes of getting ports to the Infuse are super low. As of right now, our devs stick to Samsung based roms and modding them. Which is pretty cool. I just have one quick question. What are the likes of us getting a Samsung Galaxy S2 ICS rom? It is samsung based... But would like to know if it would be possible. I'm not that intelligent in the rom making world so go easy on me plz, if this turns out to be a stupid question. Also, while I'm at it. Does anyone know any good SGS2 roms for the Infuse??
Oh good another ICS Question thread.

As far as sg2 rom being ported....well there is a reason why not done...believe something to do with hardware, make.
Btw don't know any good sg2 ROMs but again check my signature links for lots of great infuse native ROms and Ports.
I have the Samsung Transfix and am dying to update its OS to something better
There's an update for the Galaxy Ace and it has the same specs
maybe someone can take that source code and fix it onto the Transfix
There was someone talking about a beta test, but nothing ever came of it
Please, someone help me, haha, I hate Gingerbread, haha
Thanx Guys
Hey guys, so i played around with my cousins i9000 she gave me as a gift cus she's now on the i9300, anyway
Just wanted to ask if it is technically possible to port a full touchwiz ROM, like the stock ROM for the i9000 or even better the stock ICS from the SGS2 ^^
I just love the swipe-to-call function, it also looks kinda nice xD
So, yeah that's about it, just wanted to know if it would be possible, i mean they got sense working... more or less, but still...

MattLowry wrote a great "how-to-port" guide thread a month or two back, including guidance on what would be easy/hard. It's stickied in the general section. Why not have a go and let us know?

VERY possible! If you'll use these two links to reference what's compatible with our phone & what isn't, it'll help decide where to at least consider starting at.
