[Q][RESOLVED] Flashed Radio - Cannot find networks - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

EDIT: Ignore this post! I had flashed using install from zip within recovery, used fastboot to push the .img instead and it works again! Hope this helps someone in the future (or rather hope that it is never ever needed again)
Please help!
I flashed the KF1 Radio for I9020 found in the main post on the dev forum, had no luck so tried reflashing the JK8 radio which is what my phone originally came with. This didn't work, so I restored my ClockworkMod Recovery backup (which I assumed would contain the /efs folder) and I'm still not getting connections!
Have I seriously messed up my phone here?
Edit: Was going to post some info on it, but just discovered that Baseband Version is Unknown, previously this was I9020XXJK8 I believe. I take it then that the ROM backup doesn't touch /efs at all then? Bugger. Anybody know what I can do short of sending it back?

[Req] Help

I'm not sure where to post this thread, I'm picking here because I believe if I can be helped, it'll be by the people here. This morning I followed the guide posted by Haykuro to get "real" root on the Rogers. However, I made the most basic mistake of noobdom and didn't bother to check that this was for my phone. It's not, it's for the Dream. I can still boot into fastboot, but through the guide I flashed the new radio which I think is completely incompatable with the Magic, so to start, could someone post the original Rogers radio? Please don't clutter up the thread with "ur an idiot" type posts, trust me, you can't possibly call me anything I haven't called myself for the past half hour. I want to punch myself in the face, but I'm a bleeder.
Here is the post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4271500&postcount=1
Here are the SPLs. But I'm not sure that will help you out, I think you may have to send it in.
Clinton
Thanks, I don't think those contain radio.img though, unless I'm wrong?
If you can still get into fastboot your best bet is probably to restore a nandroid backup from someone's untouched rogers handset.
that should fix everything and reset your phone to how it was.
I have the wiped nandroid backup posted by Skittleguy on my computer, so I'll try that in a few and post my results shortly.
Restoring the Wiped Nandroid Backup didn't work, I don't think that it's updating the radio, which is why I think that if I flash the original radio back first and then do the tutorial again using a Magic recovery, that I might be okay. I'm just thinking out loud here though.
So wait, do you own a Rogers Magic (32A)? If you do, then it should work (using it right now as a matter of fact). Just make sure that you use a 32B compatible recovery.
What should work? The wiped nandroid backup?
Reflashing the radio. From what I understand, this root method essentially turns the Rogers phone into a "32B" Magic. You still have all the memory and goodies, but you should now be able to flash any 32B rom onto your phone. And for that reason, you need to use the 32B compatible recovery and then you can flash any 32B rom.
And for future reference, Nandroid does not back up your radio. To the best of my knowledge, there is no way of getting the Rogers radio unless you probably do some hardware modding.
Edit: Post 100!
Alright, I'm flashing a 32B Rom as we speak.
Okay, my phone flashed, and it's working just fine with a 32B Rom. Although now, I wonder what I did, because it wouldn't boot before. In the mad dash that has been the last hour, I'm sure (obviously) that I did something wrong, but I don't know what. Thanks everyone for your replies, and Skittleguy especially thank you for verbally slapping me back into reality! Mod, you can lock this thread down.

That is one thing we are lacking right now...
Other than cwm and rooting. I am stock. Give me some instructions on how to download the modem and I'll get it posted.
I am also 90% sure that I did a nandroid backup before rooting. Otherwise it's stock with root on the backup.

Try flashing a new radio through cwm for your specific device from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884, & if still no joy you'll have to root & fix nv.bin file in your efs folder here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqLK_2I-SBM, good luck!
same problem, tried lots of ICS roms, try MUI, worked for me
cool..i am a complete noob at this...will the link you provided help me??also is there any way to downgrade to 2.3.6??
MUI???guys pls help me out
MIUI is a custom rom you can flash although I doubt the rom is the problem, its more than likely the radio although the fact that it worked for a while says otherwise.
Try flashing a new radio based on your phone model.
All radios are in the link provided above.
Flashing a radio is the same as flashing a rom. Go to recovery and install from sdcard etc.
cool..thanks....is it compulsory to back up my EFS folder...i went through the link..
since i am a noob....is there any link which provides the step by step instructions?
Most roms will do it automatically now because of a script written by brainmaster so you should be OK. If not then just search xda for efs backup script.
What model is your phone? I9023, I9020T or I9020A??
i did not understand this part!!
To back it up run efs_backup.bat / efs_backup.sh
to restore it run efs_restore.bat /efs_restore.sh
pls help me out
mine is the I9020T!
how do i enter it into the recovery mode??
hold the volume up button and the power button?
OK to run the .sh file just put on the root of your sdcard and run with script manager from the market. Simples!
OK that is the same as the I9023 so you need the XXKF1 radio (old) or the XXKI1 radio (new ICS radio)
I take it you are on XXKI1 now after you flashed ICS?
Ya hold volume up and power til you get to the boot loader menu then select recovery
Flash a capped radio of your service provider first
Root explorer... enter into efs file and move the following files to root of SD.
Nv.log
Nv_data.bin
Nv_data.bin.md5
Reboot and u should be fine
Remember always back up your efs file. Flash any radio now compatible with your phone
-Google
Most roms will do it automatically now because of a script written by brainmaster so you should be OK. If not then just search xda for efs backup script.
What model is your phone? I9023, I9020T or I9020A??[/I][/I]
so do i still backup my efs or can flash the radio directly?
Run the script through script manager from the market to be sure.
put the .sh file in your SD card and run it.
cool...i shall try that out...
may i know why this happens???coz my phone was working perferctly till yesterday afternoon...suddenly it started giving me network problems
my baseband version is I9020XXKI1....this is also the radio version right?
guys just for your information....my model is the I9020T..i got it from best buy US...
so all instructions should work for my nexus s right??
which do u guys suggest i do...flash the radio again or just downgrade to 2.3.6??
again i am a noob..so pls help me out
guys...but why does this happen all of sudden??as in the phone doesnt start getting network?
Not really sure but did you reboot or anything? Might be temporary problem...

"PG58DIAG" and "No Img or Wrong IMG"

Hello folks!
First off I hope this problem hasn't been posted previously since I searched and couldn't find it.
I have on my HTC sensation the Android Revolution _HD-Sensation_3.6.11 or 3.6.2 I for some reason have two on my computer and can't remember which one I put in. The phone's HBOOT is 1.17.1111 and I can't remember when I put that update in either. My concern is that I want to update the software as I'm noticing some issues with the phone again and so downloaded the Android Revolution HD 6.5.1 for HTC Sensation from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849
Upon putting said zipped file in SD card and going into bootloader it t says the message above: "Loading...[PG58DIAG.zip] No img" and below that: "Loading...[PG58DIAG.nbh] No img or Wrong img" It repeats like that on the screen. I remember having this issue before as well when I updated the phone last, so I downloaded, as I was instructed to, "PG58IMG" and mounted it on the SD card. It fixed the problem then, so doing it again this time it didn't fix the problem for me. First off, I hope I have the correct ROM as trying to search for the updated version of the ROM I have I was unsuccessful in. So then I decided let's do this since it has ICS. I appreciate any and all help. Thanks in advance.
Are you running the latest firmware ? 3.32 is needed for ARHD 6.5.1
Also, you said you where using [PG58DIAG.zip] It should be PG58IMG i think you maybe using the wrong file,
Im still a noob, i only had this sensation 2 days so i maybe wrong.

HBOOT 1.17.1111 will work with GB ROMs but not ICS ROMs.
You need to flash the appropriate firmware and as stated PG58IMG.zip is the correct filename on the SDcard. After flashing pop out the card while it boots up reinsert the SDcard and delete/rename the PG58IMG.zip file.
Look in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767 for the firmware. I've seen folks posting problems with the most recent firmware but haven't followed them.
I guess Mike's ARHD thread should have firmware in it with some guidance.

Here is an excellent noob friendly guide from joaquinf. It's made for ARHD 6.5.1. It has all the steps to upgrade Your firmware to 3.32 and flashing ARHD 6.5.1 / 6.5.1 xe.

Good sir or madame?, thank you quite very much. I have visited the link and it all seems quite easy. I also understand the mistake I have made. I will be working on the flash possibly tomorrow when I have more time at hand to do it all. I also appreciate your feedback along with the link.

One last question if I may, I noticed on the threads that there were apps and even built in features which would back up my phone, including my sms text messages. Now I'll follow the advice on the thread and remove sim card for the just in case (but since all contacts are synced to Google account it won't matter), what I really wanna back are all my text message conversations, not even so much the apps themselves as I can always re-download them later on. I want to back up my music playlist as well if it's possible at all. I know I'll have it all on my SD card, but the playlists are all on the phone itself and that is what I really want to back up. I thank you all once again for all the feedback as well as the help provided, wish me luck for I'll be at it tomorrow.

There are two main backup methods:
1 Nandroid Backup/Recovery. You do this via your recovery, e.g. CWM. This is a whole phone backup.
2 An app like Titanium, with this you can backup and recover apps and their data individually. If you go down this route DO NOT restore any system apps if you change ROMs as it'll cause problems. Restoring your downloaded apps and data is fine. You can "probably" restore some system data, like SMS. Before you recover any system data DO A NANDROID BACKUP first so if it screws up anything you can just restore the phone to its previous state.
Use SMS Backup & Restore or SMS Backup+ for backup Your SMS.
I think titanium backup is suitable for music playlists.
Sensation stuck on boot
Hey guys, So I initiated flash today and have come across a slight problem;
I followed the guides on here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21711154#post21711154
and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21989107
I saw that the first thing to have done was install 4ext recovery. I followed the read me and tried the "adb reboot bootloader" but it kept saying device not found. Then I noticed I had it already in my phone, so I ran the backup and it said back up complete. So then I turned off the phone, rebooted into bootloader and waited for the update. However, it said "error invalid CID and can't update. Press power to reboot" It was the only option given. So then, I followed the guide on Kohr-Ah's page and took out the SD card, rebooted into bootloader, went to Recovery, ran superwipe and installed ARHD 6.5.1 with Beats Audio. After everything went done and well, it rebooted and turns on but once the beats logo completes its circle, it gets stuck on the beats page. I ran the wipe again, and reinstalled ARHD and still gives the same result. Any body know how I can solve it?
I also forgot to say that when I try to install the PG581IMG (the firmware) it says:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update package...
Installation aborted.

No Voice/Sound - Possible DSP Partition Error?

Hi all,
First up huge shoutout to the XDA Members. I love the XDA forums, it’s a great resource, and whilst I don’t visit every day, I can say I am a regular user every few years when my phone becomes older, and I want a “Fresh Start”.
So Let me give some details/background of the issue I am facing (there is a TLDR part at the bottom of the thread, where I ask my main questions)
So I decided it was time for my HTC U11 to be “reset”, Install Root Access, and a custom Recovery to take nandroid backups.
Its model: UHL – Telstra - Australia
Baseband: 8998-200321-1905141529
Android Version: 9 (1/12/2019)
Build Number: 3.32.841.4
I had no real problems, installing TWRP Recovery, and using Magisk to obtain Root.
At this point I did Run a Nandroid backup, so I have a System Image, as well as the system partition and Boot partition (I could not Decrypt” the data partition within TWRP, this was a little annoying but I believe this is a normal issues faced, where TWRP does not Decrypt the data partition, very well) I wasn’t too concerned, I could live with Re-setting up my phone from scratch (as I wanted a clean install anyways)
My Stock System Rom was not altered and I could easily restart/re-setup the setup process on my Stock ROM
I decide to test some of the other custom ROMS available from the XDA Developer members, such as ViperROM, Pixel Experience. I found that I faced issues, where Wifi was just not recognized, when installing a custom ROM, After more research I believe that most of the available Custom ROMS for HTC U11 are built for Oreo NOT Pie.
After finding this thread, https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80620553&postcount=1267
I decide yeah it cant hurt to downgrade just the DSP partition. To enable these Custom ROMS to work.
This is where I think things started to go pear shape.
I ran the DSP_TWRP_Flashable_OREO_2.33.401.19_install.zip but I did NOT get a backup of my DSP partition saved on my SD Card (I wonder if the whole failed to decrypt data partition, may have caused this issue?) Anyways, I did not get a Backup of my original DSP Image.
When I Installed a Custom ROM, I still faced issues, where Wifi, didn’t work.
I decided to go back to my stock ROM, by installing my Recovery/android backup of my System Image
Again no problems re-installing my backup of Stock ROM, (of course needed to to the phone setup again, as Data partition was wiped)
This is where my main issue presented itself, im back on Stock ROM, but I have no voice or sound, when making or receiving calls. I can only guess that the Oreo DSP image, I installed is causing issues with my Stock Pie Firmware.
After doing more research it sounded like without a copy of my DSP image backup, I most likely needed to do an RUU Re-install and go back to the stock firmware And OS from HTC.
Ive since tried to re-install a number of RUU’s, Each with varying Errors

TLDR – So here is my plea to the community for Help.
At this point im willing to go 1 of 2 ways,
• either I move to a custom ROM as mentioned earlier, with a working Oreo DSP image. So wifi, etc all work
• OR I revert back to my Stock ROM, with a Working Pie DSP image (I like the HTXC Sense blinkfeed, so would prefer to stick with a HTC ROM (either modified or Stock)
Does anyone have a Working DSP image for HTC U11 UHL Pie ?
Or does anyone have a Pie or older RUU for HTC U11 UHL Telstra
Thanks everyone
I see a third option in a downgrade to oreo via the many tutorials in this u11 forum providing you can find a suitable oreo ruu that matches your cid/mid. Then once downgraded you just take the ota to get back to pie.. Just my 2 cents,, hth. Good luck
Ive found a solution
Thanks, hammer for the reply, yeah i thought i may need to go back to Oreo. As the only RUU i could find for my CID: TELST001 was this one
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1395089523397917467
but as i mentioned i was getting errors, mainly error: 19 RU MAIN VER FAIL
im pretty sure you cant go back to Oreo from Pie, without tricking it by changing your version number. there's a few posts around, some mention needing to flash a your hosd partition. Good summary here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80192495&postcount=14
However i decided, instead of flashing an Oreo RUU that matches my CID, i'd change my CID to match a Pie RUU.
i found i couldn't do this using 'htc_fastboot oem writecid' command (as im S_ON) but some great person created the HTC Dev Info Tools program. which uses ADB i believe to make changes.
i couldn't exactly find this tools official page on XDA but rather used the google drive link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ubjDGNqCfIply-aRN8C7IQNb-YVkD4M7/view ( from that same thread above https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80192495&postcount=14
Heres a quick video tutorial on how to use the Dev info Tools here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnZjOghsnJ0
you MUST have root access on the phone for it to work ,and developer mode on i believe.
So i successfully changed my CID to the universal one of '11111111'
This allowed me to install this RUU (which im sure matched my MID of 2PZC10000) https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1899786940962575190
i recommended installing via the SD card, to reduce errors, simply rename that downloaded zip file to 2PCZIMG.zip
For anyone else looking for RUU's for the HTC U11 i recommend searching AFH for '2PZCIMG' https://androidfilehost.com/?w=search&s=2PZCIMG&type=files
Something i found strange, and could not see anyone else commenting on on this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/chef-central/android/tool-universal-htc-ruu-rom-decryption-t3382928
As i first tried just to just extract the DSP.img from that Pie RUU but the HTC Universal Decryption Tool didnt seem to decrypt/work on any Pie RUU that i tried it on. , i But i did see others apparently having success on here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80567339&postcount=14 (im guessing maybe i dont have the pie decryption keys and they are not in the downloadable 'repo' that the tool offers?) i think if i was able to decrypt the Pie RUU and access the dsp.img i could of just flashed that.
anyways just wanted to post those few links to some of those threads that helped me, and let others know what worked for me.
Cheers
Glad you found a solution,, and thanks for great info and download links.. I did not realize the google ruu speadsheet was gone.
@Dreaser - your original post is verbatim my own experience and I found it by searching for the same build number. I am really keen to get my U11 back to stock just to know I can do it so was wondering if you continued with your attempt to flash back to O80_SENSE90GP_HTC_MR_Telstra or just settled.
I am just getting started with custom ROMs would appreciate any help.
Hi, why do you not use LineageOS 17.1 it works fine for me. I have bevore also original rom on my U11, but with this Version it's run nicely.
I can really recommend it to every U1 user.
