New Touchstone - Not Working- Kind of.. - TouchPad Accessories

So here is a weird one for you that I can't quite figure out.
I bought 2 touchpads and 2 touchstones during the fire sale.
I put one up for my daughter for Christmas and the other is mine.
I have been using mine with the touchstone since I got it without any problems.
I finally unboxed the TS charger for my daughter last night. I plugged it in and put her TP on it and it wouldn't charge. Nothing.
I did some testing and swapping since I have 2 of each. Both TP's work on my original TS. I tried both TS's with both of the AC adapters and still, only my original would work. The original worked with both AC adapters.
Here is where it gets weird. The new one will not charge either TP when it is running WebOS.
On my original TP, I have put Android on it and I am running the Xron Rom.
When my TP is booted into Android, the Touchstone charger works. It charges my TP.
Anyone had any similar experiences? I have already called HP and I am planning on sending it back more than likely.

does sound strange, so the dodgy one only chargers your xronified touchpad?
Mine sometimes doesn't want to charge, its mega specific about the angle and position its at.

Yes, it is very strange.
The faulty one will only charge my Original touchpad, and only when it is booted into Xron Android.
You boot it back to WebOS, and no charge.. move it over to my original Touchstone while still in WebOS, charges fine.
My daughter's TP doesn't have android on it, so I don't know if that works or not.
I have the HP case on both of the TPs. I have tried it every way, with them on and off.

Very strange. It seems on WebOS 3.0.4 (the latest version) the touchstone charging sensitivity was decreased. On mine, I can't charge while using the OEM HP folio case with the flap folded back like I used to. Some people say they can, so it seems to vary. If possible, I would say just try to return the bad Touchstone, but if you really want to you could try reverting to WebOS 3.0.2, but idk. It sounds like something's not right with it.

I thought the touchstone wasnt dependent on software. Isn't it just an inductive charger. Three only thing software controls is displaying the battery level I thought.

I thought I read somewhere that if you had multiple touchstones, and you set them up with different settings while the TP is on them, it would remember the settings from TS to TS.

It partially is...at least the receiver. I'm not sure if it's baked into the kernel or if the update has some driver in it, or what exactly, but it looks like 3.0.5 updated the sensitivity back to pre-3.0.4 settings so far.

What? How do you change 'settings' on the touchstone??

Yes, I would like to know if there are any settings for the touchstone as well. Mine never worked, sent the first one back and they sent me a new one which doesn't work either so I figure it must be my tablet

I think he means set up the TP while it's on the TouchStone and it will remember the setting next time it sits on that particular one. No idea myself if it works, I've only got the one.

Faulty N1 Dock?

I just got a nexus one dock delivered this morning... but nothing happens when I put my phone in.
I had the desire rom so I flashed cynogen and tried and still nothing.
I am guessing its faulty but there isn't anyway for me to actually be sure is there?
I guess I will just have to contact HTC support and get it replaced!

When your drop it into the dock, does it show charging? You could just have a set of dirty contacts - a quick swipe with a pencil eraser is an easy way to make sure they're clean.
Are you running a N1 ROM now (Stock, Cyan, Enmother, MCR)? If so, dock it and head to settings and there should be a "dock" option there now once you've docked.
Thanks for telling me to try that.
I can't figure out what the problem is. I did get it to work by pushing the USB wire into the dock and plug connector.
That makes me think that the USB wire is damaged but it seems to not require any pressure to work fine on my HD2 (as its the same connector) so I am a bit stumped by this!

Are you using the wall charger or USB charger? If it's the USB charger give it a shot with the wall charger. They say don't use the USB charger and the only reason I can think of is that the USB charger only provides .5A and that may not be enough to power the dock and charge at an acceptable voltage.
I am using the wall charger now but I am UK based so I am not using the suplied charger - rather my HD2 wall adapator and USB cable although that shouldn't effect how it works clearly.
I do wonder if the invisible shield may be causing part of the problem.
It doesn't "slide" into the dock I have to push it even though the bottom part of the phone has no protector (as I removed the shield from there) it does seem to be super temperamental to the EXACT angle and position I have it in the dock...

As long as it's pushing 1V I don't see why there'd be any problem if it's not the "supplied" charger.
Can you tell if the phone is making good contact on the bottom? You should be able to see the pins actually depress and "disappear" as the phone pushes them down into the dock.
which dock have you got
I'd have thought the problem would be the skin blocking the three contacts ( is it a genuine dock?
Jamie
with the invisible skin I need to push the phone in a little as well. The skin makes the phone not fit as well so that may be your issue, not the dock.

I removed the protector totally and it still requires pushing into the dock and then it seems to randomly disconnect the charging for no reason after a couple of seconds.
It must be that the dock is faulty (of course it could be my phone but I can't test that out so I will assume it is the dock).
I e-mailed HTC who said if I phone them they will sort out a replacement.
They seem quite efficient so far although I haven't phoned them yet!
I have to be honest I am not impressed with the dock... sure it looks nice and the bluetooth streaming is cool but even if mine worked perfectly and charged the phone - the phone slips out if I touch it anywhere - it must be the most unsafe dock ever. Forget using the phone in the dock. It won't stay in it if you press it....

Official HTC Desire Car Kit

Mobile Fun now have details on the official HTC Desire car kit. Still no price though:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/htc-desire-car-upgrade-kit-p24570.htm
Apparently placing the device in the holder activates something called the 'navipanel' which must be similar to the 'Car Home' app on the Nexus One.
I'll wait for a price and reviews before deciding whether to replace my current car holder
EDIT
I just found further details on the HTC Accessory site from Expansys. The dock will set you back £65 and isn't due til the 5th July.
http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/uk/p_htc_item.aspx?i=199788
Hmm recon there going to put this navi panel on the app market? or do a upgrade?
It's just this.
Regards,
Dave
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but things have moved on with this accessory! It is now available for order (although it is still £65.99!) from htcaccessorystore.
The question then is, is it worth £65.99? Other than auto-loading navipanel what does this give us over a standard mount and car charger?
If somebody buys one and works out what triggers dock mode it would be sweet!
I have recently acquired one of these and it does not activate any software within the phone. It does switch on 'car mode' which allows the speaker-phone to activate when a call comes in. I have contacted HTC support and was given this reply,
"Dear xxxxxx,
Sorry for the delayed response. I have investigated the issue a bit further - the Desire does not come with the "NaviPanel” software, as the manufacturer claims, and there is no download available for it. There is a “Navigation” app, which you can find in the list of all apps, but I am not sure if it is the same. Alternatively, you can go to Android market and search for “Car Home” or “Car dock” and try out some of the 3rd party apps available, but please be aware HTC does not produce those, so you will be using them at your own risk.
To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number xxxxxxxxxxxx.
Sincerely,
Viktor"
I am somewhat annoyed that HTC have stated in the car holder instruction manual and in the original press release, that the 'Navipanel' is activated when the phone is docked. It was a huge selling point for me, as I use the phone in the car more than anything and this feature would have made it easier to operate the phone in the dock.
Have you instaled navi panel, you can find it on here somewhere.
I'm thinking of getting one of these, but only if it works properly!
so no one bought this?
I've bought the car kit and just received the shipment. I have to admit it looks really nice and feels robust. I'll be trying some of the third party Apps for the next few days and will keep in touch...
Hi,
I have one question, Does it recognize the charger as USB or AC ?
ThankU

None of the third party app's I've tried could convince me that Car-mode is a great and usable feature. Maybe that's why HTC decided to discontinue (or never started working on?) this feature?
Also,
Using or holding (and even touching for that matter) a phone while driving is illegal in The Netherlands and will cost you about 150,- Euro. Even if it's only being used a a navigation device.
I personally think Google should improve Voice search and release a Dutch version soon

Previously, when using generic car chargers and running CoPilot, my battery still slowly drained. I've noticed that since I've got the official Dock, this problem doesn't occur anymore. So I assume that it'll show AC. I'll have a look at it when driving home today to make sure.

From experience with my Touch Pro and Kaiser, the generic adaptors do not deliver enough power for a phone that is making calls, a Bluetooth connection and GPS. These generic devices seem to deliver USB levels of power. Look at your wall charger and it is rated at 1 Amp. A genuine HTC car charger will give the correct level of power (until the battery gets too hot and shuts off charging) - this hasn't happend on my Desire yet, but would do so on my Touch Pro, even with the AC vent directed at the phone...

After I bought the Desire I also also bought a 1200mA (max output current) generic USB charger for use in my car. Friends of mine who have an Iphone were using this charger because this phone also has the problem.
The 'funny' thing is that this charger didn't solve the problem on my Desire. Perhaps HTC chargers identify themselves as some sort of "high current charger"- USB deviceClass, or use a slightly different voltage (e.g. 5.5V instead of 5V?) to identify themselves as AC charger?
No, it's the fact the the middle two contacts are bridged. There's several posts about it in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=670702

You're right, it'd be silly for it not to include the charger. I think I just confused the "Data Cable is not included and sold separately." line.
Ordered one as well, thanks for the post.
UPDATE: Confirmed - seller responded to me that the auction includes cradle only, no charger. Still a good deal.
I hope I am wrong, but I am almost positive that it won't come with the charger. The statement "data cable not inlcuded" shows that the seller assumes that the dock connects through the data cable for charging (in fact, stock Epic charger uses a data cable as you know). Even without the charger, it is still a good price for a dock itself. Chargers are pretty cheap and really, any generic USB charger can be used with a micro-usb data cable.
Anyone asked the seller if it comes with the charger or not?
Thanks, I bought one of these too, understanding that it's only the base that is included.
I have a skillion USB chargers and micro usb cords, so I'm not worried about that.
Most importantly, I'm curious about the audio output with Froyo!
I'm subscribing to this thread hoping to hear from you guys when you receive the docks.
picked one up... definitely a refurb. scratches on the front bezel. Probably got the bottom of the barrel because the seller accepted my offer of $14...
not in a retail box just in a clear plastic bag.

I haven't been able to find one. I found the .apk for the Eclair version and installed it, but it doesn't recognize being in the dock. It does charge properly.
I would love to see a Froyo version appear soon.
I found "Alarm Clock Plus", free in the market, pretty nice little app, works great for what i need it to while its on the dock.
All i needed was clock & Weather, im good with this till we actually get a real froyo update and can get the samsung one from market.
Got mine yesterday, despite being in a sealed plastic bag, the dock has scratches all over, looks like it's been through a rock tumbler.
I plugged my phone into it, and it recognized the dock instantly, even without a charger plugged into it. I'm running Midnight ROM 2.1.1.
Sweet deal, Thanks for sharing the link!
Glad I boutht two
I got two of them.
Both showed up in new condition, not a mark to be found.
Here is what I have found using it so far:
Audio out doesn't work. They claim it will be fixed with the Froyo release. I am running DK28 and it still doesn't work.
You can power it with any usb and it won't do the debug connection thing that most chargers do when you plug them into the phone.
It automatically puts the phone in landscape view. I have the auto rotate thing turned off, but this over rides it.
It is easy to put into and take out of the dock. Seems to hit the right spot every time.
If you fiddle with the phone while it is in you may end up lowering the volume by way of the volume rocker the phone is sitting on.
To change volume, use FN and the right and left arrows. not that slick, but it works.
Great access to the keyboard while docked
If I missed anything, ask me.

Can anyone confirm this works properly with EC05

USB Charging Port Issues

I noticed today that my charging port seems to be loose. I've never dropped the phone or had any other issues with it. But I noticed that my phone was on the charger and not charging. I then moved the connection slightly and it started charging again. If it gets moved at all it doesn't charge. So two questions:
1. Does anyone know if AT&T warranty will cover something like this? I called and got a really generic answer so I might just have to go into the store... blah
2. If it isn't covered in the warranty, does anyone have any idea where to buy a new port and/or how to fix it??

That sounds like user damage/wear and tear which is not covered AFAIK, unless you got the add-on insurance.
I've only had the phone for about 20.days and I'm always really careful with my phones. I'm going.to take it in the store to see if I can get a warranty replacement... I'm probably not even going to unroot or anything lol. wish me luck.

I tried another cable almost immediately and it was still not working. But I found an old kindle usb chord and tried it... the connection is nice and tight. I had to modify the case I put on my phone so the kindle chord would fit but now it works great and the chord is almost twice as long as the original HTC chord!

Xperia XZ Premium Charging Issues

Hi All,
I'm hoping someone here can share their opinions.
Recently I've been having charging issues with my XZ Premium. Started a few weeks ago, with the charger plugged in, it would randomly stop and start charging.
Lately it's been getting much worse. I have tried different chargers, cables, adapters etc. The original Sony USB cable plugged into a wall charger, and my laptop. My Dell laptop USB-C (thunderbolt) wall charger, as well as my Dell external battery charger, as well as MicroUSB cables with a USB-C adapter.
Without touching the cables or moving anything, sometimes it'll start or stop charging randomly.
I personally think it's the phone's USB-C connector. I've tried to clean it using a damp wooden toothpick and got some dust out, but it didn't make any difference.
The phone is rooted, and is out of warranty anyways. I also have a lot of security features installed which would make it hard for a tech to troubleshoot (needs passwords etc to be shut down or rebooted) and I store some cryptocurrencies in wallets on my phone.
Is it worth taking it to a tech (I live in Japan, and don't speak much Japanese) or should I be looking at an upgrade? If so, what is the recommended phone from Sony currently? I honestly really like the XZ Premium, so I'm tempted just to buy another one if mine can't be easily fixed.
Thanks!
Bit of an update.
I managed to get my phone to charge using the original Sony USB -> USB-C cable, with an adapter plugged into the thunderbolt port on my laptop. Charging is still incredibly slow though. Also, I noticed when it hit 30% charge, it stopped accepting charge unless the phone is unlocked. If I hit the lock button, the charge light switches off. It switches on again when I unlock it.
*Small edit* It stopped charging again at 31%, despite being unlocked.
Wiggling the cable in the phone socket doesn't seem to effect whether it charges or not, which should rule out the connector in the phone. It has also not registered as a device on my laptop, despite being connected via the USB cable, which would mean it's not specifically a battery issue either, as there's no data connection being made.
So I'm starting to think it's a hardware issue.
I've ordered a new Xperia XZ Premium, because I really do love this phone, and the new XZ2 Premium doesn't seem like much of an upgrade to me apart from the camera, and slightly faster performance. And as much as I'd love to have wireless charging, moving the finger print sensor, and no 3.5mm audio output is a massive dealbreaker for me.
mine died like this, was on charge, started to say charghing/discharghing until he turned off and never came back.. under warranty they changed MoBo/2 stickers/components (??)/ 2 screw and now is back like new
Long term bump.
I bought a new replacement 8142 and have been using that successfully, and I decided to try and fix the charging issues on my old one.
I've just installed a brand new genuine battery, charging port, and power/vol/camera button connections.
The phone booted up fine, but it's STILL not charging at all. Any ideas? Motherboard maybe?

Maybe the flex cable isn't working
have only just started having this issue yesterday, have tried different charger and usbc cable combinations, cant even get my pc to recognise it as a plugged in turned off xzp and it wont turn on only show the battery icon with low level indicator in the red.
I have a similar issue.
When I connect my XZP to the pc using a Rampower cable USB-C to USB (sold as 5Gbps and 5V/3A power, thus an USB3.0 with fast charge of 15W) I suffer of the same issue exposed above: randomly the connection get interrupted.
While, charging the phone, yet with the above-mentioned cable and original Sony charger, I get no problem at all!
NB: I have never tried with the original USB cable...
Common fault with the xzp.
The actual connector from the logic board that the usb c module connects to burns out. Require a new logic board or connector to be replaced/soldered on and new usb c module.

This is good news, because sourcing a mainboard is half the price of the phone, and I've already spent money on a new battery and charging port etc.
My 2nd G8142 phone has just started displaying the same symptoms, and I can't afford a complete replacement.
Can you confirm that this is the part I need? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000160901916.html
If so, I'll grab 2, and install into my old phone first to confirm the fix, before then installing one in my newer phone.

Lucky you!
I'm onto my 2nd one, and have had the same charging issues with both.
Both phones have been rooted with a custom ROM, and I use my Dell smart-powerbank to charge them fairly often. So perhaps that is the cause of the early failures on both.

Unfortunately I can't confirm if that is the exact part you need as I don't do repairs. All I can confirm is that my repairer has stated that he has seen XZP's with the same recurring issue with the connector burning out.
My guess is, that is the part as he had to micro solder a new connector to the logicboard.

Yep, that's how my issue started too. It'll progressively get worse.
I've just bought a Google Pixel 3 XL as my 2nd XZP has ceased accepting any charge at all. I'll see if these motherboard sockets fix the issues, then keep one and sell one. Otherwise I'll just sell them both off as parts.

I've just bought a Google Pixel 3 XL as my 2nd XZP has ceased accepting any charge at all. I'll see if these motherboard sockets fix the issues, then keep one and sell one. Otherwise I'll just sell them both off as parts.

I talked to some tech on Alibaba (A Chinese shopping website) and they said it can be fixed by replacing that socket. But the replacement requires professional welding equipment and skills. Or the motherboard can be damaged. That's why I am looking for other people's experience before I take step myself. If you succeed, please update this thread. I think there are more people like me who is looking for successful experience from others. Thank you for your sharing.:good:
