Forgive me please.. My name is Jeff and I am a newb..
I have had iPhones for 4 years and done my best to jailbreak unlock and liberate as many devices as I could from Steve Jobs grasp.. But alas those days are over.. and I have made the switch to Android.. A little late to the game.. I know..
I have rooted a bunch of nook colors to flash Cyanogen and helped a guy with a G2x again to root and install cyanogen. So I do have a little experience but that is were it stops.
So now that I have made you read that brief introduction here is my amazingly noobish question that the flaming of which will probably bring joy to many people here. So I am willing to take one for the team for your entertainment.
Question 1. Will the noobproof method of s-off, rooting, Installing ClockWork, and gaining SuperCID work on my device and will the 4g radio still function as there is a tower within a good quarterbacks throwing range of my house.
Question 2. I ask because I cannot find a definitive answer. What is the best way to uninstall all the sense crap and the bloatware on this phone.
I would like to add that this is my first android phone and I am loving it. I was a little worried switching from iPhone.. yeah yeah i know.. But now that i have there's no looking back.
If the guides exist to do what i want and I am just blind to not have found them feel free to just post links and not waste your time re posting them.
Thank you again for your time and assistance.. or for the flaming and the countless sleepless hours of trying to sort thru the forums to find the already answered threads that may come.
ps Ordered my anker 1900mah battery should be here tuesday.. wait.. wrong thread.
Feel free to reply to me on google+ Just Look for Jeff DeVeau
Hey, I'm coming from the iWorld as well. I've only had my Sensation 4G for a week but I've been flashing ROM's the whole time lol. So, to Q1- Yes, 4G works great after rooting and or using a custom ROM. Q2- The cleanest way IMO to do this is just install a custom ROM that has all the bloatware your looking for removed already. You can delete it yourself, or freeze the apps too, but there are more benefits to custom ROM's besides that. EVERYTHING can be optimized by the ROM chef ;-) There are more than 25 ROMS available so far... Pick your poison There are also different radio ROM's that users have said can increase 4G speeds in conjunction with certain system ROM's... Have fun!
I just got mine 2 days ago.. I cant help but to want to tinker with this thing.
Any experiences you have had with specific Rom / Radio combinations I would love to hear.. Im pulling about 6-8mbps down pretty consistently but of course... the faster the better right?
Can't wait for Cyanogen for the Sensation.. I love it on my nook
Another Question (or two)... If I plan on trying different Roms I just S-off, install Clockwork and Root right?
Do I need SuperCID? I just leave s-off right?
Just wanted to say.. S-Off'd and installed HD Revolution and no sense on my two htc sensations.. Both are running great with adw launcher.
Question..
the issues I have are that the live wallpaper keeps going back to the default, sometimes when I install a app it doesn't show up in the app drawer till iI reboot, and the 4g logo is showing up as H.
Any solutions for these issues?
New to forums, new to the Sensation 4G.
So far I've had this phone for less than 48 hours. What I've noticed about it thus far is it is fast, and it seems like I'm using maybe 1/16th of it's potential. The only apps I've installed thus far are the Tesla LED flashlight, and Facebook. I've also got a 32GB micro SD card in the mail which should be here Monday, and I've already got a Jawbone Icon for it as well.
What are the worthwhile apps to have on this phone, and are there any other mods that I should be looking into? Is there anything else I should know? Thanks for the help ahead of time.
Edit: Good cases, screen protectors, etc?
Welcome aboard!
Have you S-Off'd or rooted yet?
If not, get to it!
It's a blast and the phone will fly!
No, I haven't done anything to it yet as far as rooting or s-off'd (<-whatever that last one is).
Any chance you can point me to some good threads on both of those subjects? I'm really new to this whole modifying phones thing. I've been building computers for years, but this is obviously different.
Start here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
And then look thru the Development section and choose a rom.
The Apps and Themes section also has a lot of goodies.
A lot of things in that section need at least a rooted phone.
To install roms you will need to be S-Off'd.
S-Off = Security Off (Unlocked Bootloader)
Oh yeah...
Remember do a lot of reading.

Hey guys , I'm new to androids too ...... I was on the iPhone hype since the 3g and now I have left my iPhone 4 for an htc sensation ! I believe its on 2.3.4 ..... I'm wondering if that's rootable and can it be done on my MacBook ?! Sorry for newbish questions ..... Thanks in advance for any and all help

You can root from a Macbook. There are a few threads in the development section on it.
But if you want to s-off , you will need a windows or Linux machine.
Or you can install windows on your MAC.

Case mate tough ftw! rom insertcoin.
I flashed my sensataion with RUU_Pyramid_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.35.707.1 and tried updating it to OTA_Pyramid_hTC_Asia_India_1.35.720.1-1.28.720.2_release to get Asia India language, but its not working. Can anyone uploade the RUU_Pyramid_hTC_Asia_India_1.35.720.1 Stock ROM. It will be great.

Which model case mate do you recommend?
Also, can you point me to a good thread or something on the insertcoin? I have no idea what that is or even does and I'd want to of course compare to other programs/mods that do the same thing.
Thanks.
So I only had my htc sensation for about a week now , haven't had a chance to S-off or root yet ..... Updated to 2.3.4 and now I'm getting WiFi dropping every minute or two ?!? Anyone ran into this problem

Can someone point me to the thread that has the best software mod info? I know there is more than one, I'm just not sure which one exactly is the best if that makes sense. Thank you.
I've got a question. I posed this question in a different thread, but thought that it'd spark an interesting discussion for T-Mobile customers.
HTC announced that they won't be releasing ICS until late March, but what about T-Mobile?
Do I have to wait until HTC releases ICS to T-Mobile, and then wait until T-Mobile decides to release ICS to the public via OTA?
That would really suck if we have to wait even more time for T-Mobile to bloat the crap out of ICS when HTC releases ICS in late March
EDIT:
Since people have interpreted my post incorrectly, here's a quick statement to address the issue -
You guys misunderstood me. Let me make this clear:
I am not bashing custom ROMs. I am not bashing developers. I know that devs put a lot of time and effort to bring custom ROMs to XDA members, and I greatly appreciate that.
I am not saying that an OTA update will be far superior to a custom ROM.
I choose not to root my phone and install a custom ROM because I have issues following directions. Inevitably, I would screw something up and have a phone with limited capabilities. I can't risk that happening to me, because my job requires me to have a fully functional phone 24/7.
I apologize if you guys took my post the wrong way. In no way did I mean any disrespect to XDA or developers of custom ROMs.

second yes tmob sprint att vr will always bloat it up with there stuff like wifi calling and there crap so ota is off by a few eeeks or months UNLESS YOU COME HERE look is dev section for ics cant miss it

You think I'm stupid or something? I KNOW that ICS custom ROMs are available right now.
I purposely choose not to install a custom ROM due to the countless issues that people report. I need a stable phone and my job requires me to have a functioning phone 24/7. I can't test out custom ROMs for that reason.
I'm waiting for ICS over OTA.
Last time HTC promised an OTA for the Sensation 4G (2.3.4), they were on time. I think they're probably working with T-Mobile to deliver it by March.
Well I think so to man .... All this help help **** I keep seeing after someone flashes a new Rom is getting old that's what u get for ****ing with the OS ... On the phone people should just wait for the real HTC ice cream ....

For custom ROM's on ICS, they are perfectly stable now, many hundreds of users are happy using them as daily drivers.
For T-Mobile, we alread have WiFi calling perfectly functional (which is lucky because T-Mobile havent updated their app since 2.3.4) so if you want to waste time waiting for OTA, that is up to you but you won't get anything a custom ROM doesn't already give you

That's a bit harsh and too much of a generalization. I'd be willing to bet money most of the "help help ****" you refer to is mainly because some people don't take the time to read the directions carefully before trying things out. I'm a bit paranoid myself and tend to read things over several times before trying something new. If you want to wait for the OTA that's your choice, just remember you don't get to complain about how long it takes
I am a T-Mobile USA user and I use ARHD http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14192842&postcount=4 With no issues. My browser works, my GPS works, my email works, my camera /camcorder works, my WIFI calling works... please actually test a rom before you make a statement on how they don't work and you want a "stable" phone. All you have to do is make a backup of your current stock rom and flash a custom rom on your day off...
Most of custom sense roms are more stable than stock. The devs here have eliminated almost all the issues that HTC created. Custom roms are faster, have better battery life and make our phones work as they should. The majority of those people that complain and ask for help about stuff that they broke are lazy and dont take the time to read the instructions or even search for an answer! So you have to try something to judge it. The devs put a lot of time and effort on that builts and they do it for free!

It's really happening that people just ask without even searching. Most of them ask about common issues and it's impossible not to find an answer in a thread like ARHD 6.2.1 which has literally 5000+ pages of posts in it.

I *kinda* see where you're coming from there.
The thing is, people have the right to "**** with the OS" all they want since they paid a premium for the phone but some people flash ROMs without taking risks into account and then ***** about problems without trying to search for solutions in the forums but the way you put it was kind of elitist if you ask me.

Most of the issues in mike's ROM have been fixed by other's but mike doesnt update his ROM often so people are still posting about crap that has been solved.
Solution: dont always assume mike's ROM is the best, hunt around and find a different ROM you like

I don't want to sound crude, but if you know that ICS roms are available now, wouldn't you know that HTCs official RUU will be made into countless roms on this forum as soon as it's available?
I don't understand your question.
In all likely hood once HTC releases it most chefs would work from that. I don't know why they would need to wait for Tmobile just to cook a ROM based off of HTC source. The only useful thing you'd probably get from Tmobile is just radio info and maybe wifi calling if they make any changes.

He could of just joined XDA to gain some of the latest "Sensation 4g" news, maybe he's rooted other phones in the past, maybe he just likes to read upon development and he will eventually root and install a custom rom once he feels comfortable.
There's many reasons to be a member of XDA without a rooted phone. Many websites get their news from XDA first and then post it on their website. Why not just get the news directly from the source (XDA)?

I definitely get where your coming from. It takes time to get a custom ROM, flash it, and set up the home screens, and then realize you doing like htc locations being selected as default over Google maps, and then you have to search and find out how to change that. Once the official is out, you can just root, remove bloat you don't like, and not waste too much time. To each his own, that's the beauty of android, you can prefer to use it the way it comes, or get it cooked

Hi there,
I just got my new HTC Sensation, and I'm coming from my old HD2. I'm finding it fairly easy to get to grips with, but just want some advice on what people would recommend doing to get the most out of my phone. I will install a new ICS rom sometime soon, but in the meantime, what can others suggest?
Also, I did pick up something - I tried turning on delivery reports for text messages, but they keep turning off. Is it something I'm doing wrong?
Thanks,
David
After you root I would use coindroid sense 4 rom it had allot of support and I'd very stable but Bluetooth doesn't work all the way I'd that is important to you and I would use rom toolbox with every rom you can change fonts change CPU speed it had root explorer and a bunch more features

Hi David,
HD2 was a really nice phone, but the Sensations is better.
Before starting with the hacking I would suggest give it a go with the stock ROM. Check for update of the firmware, while you are at it. ICS upgrade is widely available now, so your phone could be next.
After you have used the phone for some time, then have a look at the wide variety of custom ROMs available at xda. Read the instructions carefully and good luck flashing.
rio
I was a coindroid user, but a few days ago I switched to aokp official.
is faster, lighter, almost all working (see cm9 bugs) and...well, is aosp looking!
I'm coming from a leo, too, here you will find lot of great roms, just flash
I suggest you to try official aokp, sense 4 and last version of arhd...
these are the best roms (I don't like cm9, try that too if you want)

Hi,
What is your hboot number?
Go to settings/power,and untick fastboot.
Power the phone off.
Power on holding volume down + power button.
You will see your hboot number.
If it is still below 1.27,then
DO NOT USE OTA(OVER THE AIR) UPDATE
Once you do this ,you will no longer be able to s-off your phone(using revolutionary)
This will then cause you no end of problems later, when you go to update to ICS...
I just saw this http://www.phonearena.com/news/ROM-brings-Ice-Cream-Sandwich-to-HTC-Desire-HD_id33380 from PhoneArena and it looks like this ROM is fully supported for the Inspire 4g. My wife won't let me flash any more ICS roms on her Inspire any more and wants to keep the latest stock debloated GB rom from AT&T since it's stable and fast. I was wondering if anyone had tried this rom or know of a better more stable ICS&Sense rom to try to convince to let me flash on it for her.
Here is the XDA link from PhoneArena http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531218
I would suggest that you read the last half of the posted pages, then make a decision, if you will look on the DHD forums, there are a few Sense 4 ROMS with most things working, all have a few bugs right now. It is just a matter of if you can live with a few quirks and update your phone as they get things fixed.
It's for his wife. It is best not to flash any ICS roms for now. Wait between two to four weeks if you want an ICS sense rom or the JB roms. There will be bugs and she is not going to be happy, they never are.
My assumption is that by then the ICS/Jb roms should have a minimal of bugs.
In the meantime read through the threads and check what you would like. I doubt she will show any interest for now.

Thank you, I have been reading the dev threads in the Inspire section and havn't seen many that are as stable as the one I saw on phone arena, I didn't know that the desire HD roms would work on the inspire 4g thought the Inspire had updated hardware on it, there seems to be a lot more ICS sense roms on the desire HD thread I wonder if they all work and how stable they are on the Inspire 4g. It would be easier if my wife would let me flash them to try them out but the 1st ICS rom I flashed had alot of things broken and were buggy and she got mad at me. Any info on a good stable ICS sense rom for inspire 4g would be great thanks again.
PS if the desire hd ICS sense roms work on the Inspire 4g why aren't they posted in Inspire threads?

Separate devices, separate threads. Every now and then they do post a rom in both threads.
Regarding the Roms over the dhd thread and compatibility - most of them come with the required files for them to work on the Inspire, or they would link what else needs to be flashed in the OP (Original Post - First Page), as some also do over here in the Inspire section. However, there is one rom that was released today (can't remember the name of it) which the sound (I believe it was the sound) won't work on the inspire. The menu button doesn't work on either of the devices, the inspire and dhd.
Regarding blackout, can't remember what the bugs were/are, but if you are not familiar with flashing I would stay clear from that one for a while. It needs to be flashed a certain way, quite easy - simply it consists of doing the full wipe within the aroma installer, when it finishes choose "no" when it prompts you to reboot - do a manual reboot and should work. And do not download from dev host.
The latest release from randomblame - B14, has sound issues. A previous version may work but I can't recall what bugs the other ones have. Same issue goes for - I believe it's B4 of the AOPK version.
There is one with wifi issues. Can't remember which one.
Those are the ones I remember from the top of my head and I haven't flashed any of those in a while. I just read silently, waiting for the bug reports to lessen.
I've been using several versions of the latest official Sense 3.0 release for our phone (which you can find in this thread) since it came out. I haven't tested any ICS/JB rom for a while. However, I did flash Existz BR6 today, and for the way I use my phone - it works without any issues. I link my google contacts, do the facebook sync to show with my phone contacts, whatsapp and the xda app and wifi, that's it. I received a call, it sounded good. It's fast, responsive, haven't been able to check battery life - but it's bound to be good. I did run BR5Test2 for a week or two, and for me to keep a rom that long it has to be either bug less or with a minimum of bugs. And that is, working out of the box since I still haven't learned how to play around with a rom to fix this or that.
Hope this helps.
P.S. I had the same issues with my girlfriend, and other members with their women. They will never be happy.
Edit: existz mentioned a bug regarding the keyboard keys sticking/lagging every now and then. I haven't experienced it yet, but the easiest fix - paraphrasing existz, is to lock and unlock the screen.
Just read the first couple and last 10-20 pages to have an idea about a rom.
Most of the bugs mentioned may and probably be ironed out with the next release.

I've experienced the keyboard bug, and it's annoying, but everything you type does appear even if you experience the bug.
ICS does have a few issues, but I'd like to point out that I'm using blackout and I haven't encountered any bugs yet :good:
I forget if bluetooth (after disabling it would cause phone problems or something) was fixed or not, same with wifi hotspot (after turning on wifi hotspot you would have to reboot to use normal wifi), but I don't use either so I haven't noticed it
Aroma installer seems to be causing some issues, you'll have to mess around with some settings to get everything to work well. A bad flash will have no boot image, just a black screen. A good flash will get you Blackout's boot image.
But otherwise it feels very snappy and fast, everything runs well and I'd say that it's pretty much the same stability of most sense 3.5/GB ROMs. Actually, I think it's a little smoother than Energy.
Following that XxxPachaxxX's Nero XL(3.6) has the second least amount of bugs (although with a big gap between Blackout), and a bit farther away is Virtuous a3 (4.0A). There are two more ROMs out (last I checked) that are just completely incompatible for I4g, but from comments seems to be just as stable as Blackout :/
Although I think in a month's time Sense and ICS will be just as stable as Sense and GB.
I've been using Blackout ROM with ICS and Sense 3.6 and it runs really great. I will keep it until a stable ICS with Sense 4.0 comes out there. I've seen a couple of them, but I normally read they have issues with camera/hotspot/etc. I had a non-sense ICS ROM but I really missed sense.
don't give up on ICS, go IceCold

I've been running Lord ClockaN's AOKP Ice Cold Sandwich 8.5 for a few weeks now and everything works great. FB Sync, 8MP Camera, Wifi, tethering, Bluetooth. The ONLY issue is that the camcorder only records up to 480p. If you just set it on 480p before you give it to her, she'll probably never change it.

I tryed giving her AOSPX ICS from existz and she wanted sense and since it was an early release there were quite a few bugs and I was in trouble :crying: but thanks for the input again any other suggestions would be great really looking for stable ICS or JB with Sense 3.6 or 4.0 I read this on the portal http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1826903 so maybe soon I can give it to her once the devs get that kernal working for their roms
This also looks promising http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1839004 ICS and sense 4a lite

I can confirm that this works amazingly! Smooth, no graphical glitches, Video records at full resolution. It's awesome!
Meh...
I've tried the Blackout ROM, so far everything is fine except for the WiFi, it's been very flaky on my phone. It's constantly telling me that the wireless network in my home is out of range, when I'm 10 feet from the router. Rather annoying... but it works other than that.

Yes I've read good things about that ROM but alas it is AOSP without sense and not what we are looking for now if a port of Sense 3.6,4a,or 4.0 were put on there that would be what we need
I'm going to try later tonight, but wanted to ask just to avoid any obvious problems. When I flash Blackout will I need to flash any type of Inspire MOD like for existz's ICS AOSP build? Any other tips or tricks I should know about before I take the plunge?
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure since she still won't let me flash on her phone waiting til ICS sense roms a lil more stable I would PM andrews317 since he has been using for a lil bit now
When you flash blackout the aroma installer already has the inspire mods in it so you don't have to worry about the mod pack
