[Q] Stupid questions - Motorola Atrix 2

Guys,
I have some really basic questions:
1) How to customize the lockscreen ? (To see new emails, texts, etc)
2) I'm don't know how to use the data connection. Any app always ask for wifi connection. And I can't see any configuration related to 3G.
Some more info:
All the time on status bar has an "4G". My phone is AT&T branded but, today I unlocked it with a code from ebay and I'm outside USA.
I can call and receive text as expected.
Thanks!

One more thing:
is there a way to fine tune the vibration for calls and notifications ?
The vibration is too short....

1. Get widgetlocker
2. Sounds like you need to change your apn settings. I don't know what carrier you use but just Google your carrier and apn settings
3. I know gosms pro lets you change the vibration settings for txt's.
Sent from my MB865 using xda premium

Yeah, I'm new to this... got the APN settings and the data conection is OK...
about the other tips i'll try it out!
thanks!

your welcome!

WidgetLocker is a must! Love all of the customization options.

Adding Data[GPRS/EDGE/3G] Disable option

Hello Guys,
Recently I had Gone out of my Free 6 months Free 100MB of Data per Month,
Means It was like If You use an Android Phone on Airtel Network(India), You Get Free Data Worth 100 MB per Month Till First 6 Months.
So Since 6 Months Were Done, It Started Charging me 30p/50kb & It was too costly for one with an Android Phone.
Even If I Turned On the Phone & then Switch to Wi-Fi, mean while if 2-5 kb even if was cut, It used to charge me 30p.
************************************************************
So As to Avoid this, In HERO ROM's We had an Option to Disable Data that too through An Widget; But In Cyanogen / Official ROM's We Cant Even Disable Data...
So To Avoid This, I used To make another new APN with Parameters Disabled for Both Name & APN
So All I Want to Say is that Adding an Data Disabled APN Profile to the Current APN List Through which Everyone can Disable Data on Non-Customized ROM's By just Changing the APN to Disabled
there is already at least one application which does this, i use APNdroid which can either be used from the launcher or as a widget
http://code.google.com/p/apndroid/
Just delete all the APNs. I've been doing this since I first bought my G1. I'm on a college campus with WiFi everywhere so I didn't bother paying for data.
WG-Build 8.2
Added it to my ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592466
APNdroid ftw!

Why Would you install a Separate App Every time you Flash / Update / Wipe Data, Or As d00m Said Why to Delete The APN & Type it Again Whenever Needed ??
Instead just go to APN Settings & Change the APN to Disabled
Don't You think This will be better ??
Make a new APN, call it "No Internet" fill it with rubbish then pick it as your APN.
As long as it's selected you can't use data.
Personally I have it set to No Internet, and the MMS entry is separate so I can still send/recieve mms when necessary but I don't use per MB data.
Why noyt just pay for Unlimited internet? whats the point of having G1?????

Not all countries have carriers that provide unlimited internet, and even if they do it could be very, very expensive. Until recently we had to pay approx. 80USD for unlimited internet.
APNdroid is not perfect. It disables all APNs, even MMS APNs. This is not ideal as we cant receive MMS. So, the Hero way of doing it is ideal.

check out the 2.0 dev version of it, it has options for all apn off, only MMS on, or all on
Here's my question. Does putting junk in the apn cause it to try and connect over and over and kill you battery like not having signal? What about with no internet selection? If it does, I could see a need for a better way.
try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=541380&highlight=droidwall
it would be very nice if there can be a menu option to disable data when you hold the power button
just like on the magic / hero roms

Yeah I too feel So...
By the way There is no Need to Discuss So much on this small stuff....
I had just Posted this thread for ROM Dev's So they can include it in their ROM's if they feel its Usefull...
Disable data on boot
Can't you go in to phone diagnostics and disable data on boot
(only works on HTC branded phones)
Instructions for people who don't know:
Dial *#*#4636#*#*
tap phone information
press menu
tap more
and select both disable data connection and disable data on boot...
then you should have a no data connection without installing unneeded apps
Jeeeeshhh
Just Download "Quick Settings" from the market...
Turn off Network Data
Simply
I use Bar Control to place a shortcut of the app in the notification bar for quick access.
Problem solved!
EDIT: OK i didnt read all posts before replying...Droid Wall sounds much simpler. But i like having my settings available without having to hit the HOME button to select said app.

[Req] auto 3g toggle?

Does anyone know if theres an app that will turn off 3G except when needed? ie only when checking email, internet, facebook, etc?
I'm not looking to toggle the 3g manually, I want it to Automatically toggle the 3G network to save battery life.
If this doesn't exist, Is this possible to create?
I appreciate ANY feedback on this!
I am using such an app on Windows Mobile. It sounds fairly easy to do it on an app-to-app basis on Android as well.
If I have the time soon, I'll try looking into it.
Window Mobile Longlife is exactly what you are looking for.
wish it was on android though. or at least a determined date.

you can try APNDroid (use the widget to toggle when you need)
you can get the 3g on/off widget by curvefish from the market for changing this setting quickly (its actually a bookmark, but it lets you accomplish this in two clicks)
apndroid and juicesaver both have widgets that can turn off both 2 and 3g networks completely.
I'm using Toggle Data widget. Unfortunatelly it's not automatic. Now I'm trying to find something similiar but reachable from statusbar. Anyone?

These are the changes that Tmobile made to the phone

By going through the manual & comparing it to the EU version I've compiled a list of things tmous has changed on the phone. (in case anyone was interested)
Removed:
Quick Lookup - ability to select something & choose lookup through Google, Wikipedia, etc
Show Me app
Ebook reader completely missing even though HTC widget is still there
Voice Recorder
Voice Dialer
Dock settings
Locations
The Device Setup on first boot is missing things
Added:
Wifi calling (Tmobile's UMA feature)
I wonder why Tmobile removed all of these?
Here is a Voice Recorder app in the market that someone recommended since ours is missing:
http://market.android.com/details?id=com.tokasiki.android.voicerecorder
Did they keep Locations? And the quick look up thing is actually useful...dumb.

Ran into the voicerecorder bs.
Is there anyway to add any of those features back in or are they hard built into the rom?

What do you mean by "wifi calling"? is it calling via wifi using SIP provider?
If so, we do have it on our Vodafone UK branded units.
If it's something else, please explain.
well I guess it's good I havn't waited for the 4G to come and pre-ordered the British version.. just one thing, the WiFi Calling looks good.. (first time with Android and HTC xD) is there any way to get it in the UK Sensation Z710e ?

T-Mobile is a pretty cool system. When you're at home (or on a WiFi network that doesn't do much filtering), phone calls, SMS, and MMS inbound or outbound route through WiFi instead of the cellular network. I've noticed this has the benefit of improving battery life while on WiFi, as it turns off the WCDMA (3G/4G) radio. It actually seems like it might turn off the cellular radio completely, I'll have to check when I get home.
The one downside is that if you are on the phone and walk away from your WiFi network, it will drop the call. It can't hand off.
I'm not sure if this is common in Europe, but in the states, many wireless carriers offer femtocell units that users can install in their home if they have bad reception. WiFi calling eliminates the need for that.
Wifi calling will notify you of a mms but it will not download the message. At least that's my experience with the G2x.

ah sorry was just going off what I've been told regarding MMS. I actually don't use SMS or MMS, I use google voice for "SMS" purposes and don't have any use for MMS (if someone wants to send me a photo they just email it).
I have an unbranded phone from HK but also have Show Me and Locations. (Maybe the other stuff too - didn't check).

I think it shuts off the radio as well. My buddy had it turned on by accident & was freaking out because he was on wifi & showed no signal bars.

A similar feature to the TMOUS "wifi calling" is offered in the UK by BT Mobile. They call it BT Fusion.
Fem2cell is available here from Vodafone, known as Sure Signal

Good call, I'm gonna need wifi calling at the very least before I'll hop over to an alternate ROM (who am I kidding I'm sure I won't be able to resist). The my account app is handy but it's in the market anyway (there was an update a day or two ago).
When you say Dock Settings is there a separate App/Icon for the EU version or are the settings completely gone from withing the Settings Menu?

Not receiving sms while roaming

Anyone else have the problem of not being able to receive text messages while roaming? I'm in an area where I am constantly switching back and forth between not-roaming and roaming and I only seem to get texts when I am on T-mobile's towers. Any thoughts or comments? Thanks
Did you select in messaging app settings to receive messages while roaming?

Yes I did. Isn't that only for mms and not SMS though? The only roaming setting is under the mms section
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
Yes, as far as I know, it's only for MMS, because you are supposed to receive SMS anytime when you have a network.
1- Did you flash a new rom recently? If so, I'd suggest you to reflash the rom and try again.
2- You could try to go under your carrier settings and choose manually your carrier.
3- If it doesn't work, contact your carrier's technical support to see if it could be something that is disabled in your account regarding roaming.

I have flashed most of the roms for this phone and it seems to do it regardless of the rom. What are the carrier settings that you are talking about?

Under Wireless & network settings > Mobile network settings > Network operators. You could try to play with these settings (mobile network settings) to see if it works one way or another. Now, if you tried several roms and it still doesn't work, it may be a hardware problem or a network problem (T-Mobile). I would try to fix it with the settings first, and if the problem persists, call tech support.

Ok, I have played with those settings. I just wasn't sure which ones you were talking about originally. The kicker is I'm in an area (Orono, ME) where I am constantly switching between T-mobile and USA Unicel (roaming) and if I set those Network Operator settings to just T-mobile then I get service in certain areas and then nothing in others. I guess I'll just have to try customer support unless someone can come up with another possible solution.

[Q] Droid Razr HD not receiving texts

Hi guys, I just recently updated my RAZR HD to XT926 and I've noticed that I haven't been receiving any of my texts. When I turn off my phone and turn it back on, I notice a bunch of my texts coming through. I'll start to receive texts shortly after but then it just stops again. I checked to make sure I had enough space and I definitely do.
Any suggestions on what the issue may be??
I suggest you verify your carrier settings concerning mms:good:

I'm not sure what you mean by that.
your phone should have some settings for your carrier to work, network and mms or text. Who is your carrier? google for example FIDO mms settings or Verizon network setting on android, or something similar pertaining to your situation.
Look under settings, More under data usage, Mobile network, Access points name
that is where the settings for mms reside along with data
