You can ignore everything in this post, head here and download the latest swype beta with full ICS support.
Hi guys, as you may (or may not) have noticed, Swype on ICS is pretty limited at the moment, as you cannot download additional languages. This might be fine (as long as need only English an Spanish), but as I need Dutch, German and Chinese as well, here is the solution I came up with:
Thanks to HolyFlasH, we do have a mirror of the original, lost file again. Dude, you rock!
QUICK MODE (takes up around 50 mb on your device, has all languages)
Delete Swype and the Swype installer if you have them installed
Register for the beta here
Download the installer and log in, but don't download anything yet.
If you don't have it already, install Titanium Backup
Download this file (mirror) , extract it to your SD card (overwrite any existing Swype backup)
Run Titanium Backup and restore the app + data for swype.
Switch back to the installer, select "Enable Swype", do your configuration as usual.
You should have all languages available, untick or uninstall the ones you don't need.
Enjoy
SLOW MODE (takes more of your time, saves your precious megabytes)
Download a non-ICS ROM for your device (I recommend CM, because it is the quickest one for our purpose)
Enter the recovery mode of your device
Do a full backup
Install the downloaded rom
Do the minimal configuration (get Wifi connected and download titanium)
Install Swype and the languages you need
Do a titanium backup for swype
Go back to recovery mode, restore your device to ICS
Restore your titanium backup
Send the link of your titanium backup to me so I can add it to this post
PS: Please report if it works on your device, I was only able to try it on my HTC Sensation.
Maybe its just my Phone, but i have ICS on Galaxy S installed, and when i try to restore swype from sd-card, titanium backup asks me what to restore, but without any option like the common ones (app, app+data, data).
Any idea?
Worked fine on my SGS I9000
I did some things extra to the steps mentioned above to get this work on my SGS:
- you have to extract the file you have downloaded to /mnt/sdcard/TitaniumBackup
- reboot
- install swype from the installer just as you would always normally do. DON't ENABLE it yet
- go to TitaniumBackup and restore file "Swype 3.26....."
- in my case TitaniumBackup only restored data
- go to the installer and enable Swype. You can also enable Swype in the settings of your phone
- now you are ready for using the newest version of Swype in every language which is available
Hope this helps.
Works on my i9000 with ICS Build 11 as well. However I did restore data after installing and running Swype (actually after trying a couple of times to download Polish language).
Why is it that you recommend restoring before running swype?
the backup file which you have downloaded and you have to restore includes every available language.
You don't have to download polski language extra.
In my opinion it doesn't matter if you are restoring the backup before running Swype the first time. But that's the way it surely worked for me.

Because I don't know for sure how the licensing for swype is running. Doing it my way ensures that all licensing stuff that I might have forgotten to remove from the backup is overwritten.
But never mind, do it any way that is working for you

Thanks Guys!
Guess that since everything works fine, I'll wait until Swype releases new beta that supports ICS
edit: didn't work on my sgs i9000
but i just installed swype in SDK emulator, pulled the data folder, pushed it to phone

The languages don't show up anymore?
At first, try this one: Go to any text field, try to actually swype some words (in any language available, probably English), then go back so the Swype setting and try to select German.
If this does not work, then the configuration files from this backup are the reason you can't remove languages without causing errors. This is because at the time the backup was taken, I had all languages selected. I'll post a guide on how to download only a few specific languages in the original post. If you made your custom bundle, please send me a link so I can put it in the original post.
I cannot restore swype with titanium backup. Titanium asks me, what i want to restore, but there is nothing i can choose.
Can someon help?

It looks like you havn't installed the Swype completely. It's just the Swype Installer that you've got on your phone.
Fire it up and install Swype first, then use TitaniumBackup to restore data.
Right, i thought i am not allowed to download Swype Beta, because of.
"3. Download the installer and log in, but don't download anything yet."
Thank you!

Can someone upload an Titanium Backup with German, which is not so huge?
You have to restore the crossed out file, did you try that?
awesome, works great on my Nexus S running CM9 Alpha 18 (4.0.3)
BTW: you can also untar the backup file and remove the languages you don't need, also you can modify the pref file so they will not be selected after you restore the data

This way working on My SGS2. ICS 4.0.3 Official XXKP8
Another option that worked for me is to use Appextractor from the market to extract the swype APK + data from an Nandroid backup. Does not give you the newest version of swype, (For some reason the update it installed is not the newest with dragonspeak for me?) But is absolutely the quickest method.
Edit: It now gives the option to download the dragonspeak version, but is stuck at downloading so far...
followed King_Nothing's recommended steps and got it working on my Nexus S running the ICS Rom AndroidMe 1.0.1. Been waiting to Swype in Korean for AGES and finally it's a dream come true... thanks guys!
I get it to install, but some languages are not available, like Dutch.
thanks alot. restored only data from your backup. all working fine.
even if i not need all of those language

Weird, did you restore data with Titanium Backup?

I know this may be a silly question but I have just started flashing ROMS though I have read extensively.
I flashed from Android 2.3.3 to CM 7 nightly build 30, I like the new roms but some of the system apps I had and backed up with Titanium Backup are no longer on my phone or in my titanium backup on my SD card. The two apps I miss the most are Swype and Polaris office.
What did I do wrong and how can I rectify it. I had to revert to Bionex 2 but I would prefer to use CM 7.
Thanks much.

When you install a new ROM on your phone, you are going to get only system apps which are backed into the new ROM. I guess CM7 does not come with SWYPE and Polaris Office pre-installed. The main purpose of custom ROMs is to remove any unwanted system apps which came pre-installed on your phone. Though if you want these apps you can find the .apk files for them and put them under system/app folder and restart your phone.
Try and find a thread in general section. There is one thread which has all the original .apk files.
yea cm7 dont come with swype or polaris that was a stock feature thats jus how they do there roms even if u backed it up in titanium u wouldnt see a setting to restore now as far as apps not being in titanim. go into titanium hit ur menu button n im pretty sure theres a setting that says refresh apps list try that bud.
Thank you for your response. I downloaded the app pack yesterday. It had Swype in there but not Polaris. I installed Swype but it didn't work it just kept crashing.
I'll try again though.
The missing apps I was talking about was Swype and Polaris and as you said those came stock.
I like CM 7 just wish I could have those two apps working on it.
The original swype apk will most likely not work...what will work is if you go to beta.swype.com and register for the beta, it will download the swype installer and then swype...which will work for your phone.
And go here for the original apk thread.
Polaris office is not that file, where can I find the apk for it?
If you scroll down a little bit, someone posted a link to everything that was in /system/app folder...I haven't looked in those files but I would assume it would be located there.
Swype came pre-installed on the stock Skyrocket, after updating to the new deodexed rom i seemed to have lost it. I can't find it in any of the markets, anyone have any idea how to get it back on without have to go back to full stock?
just download any of the STOCK AT&T ROMs from the DEV section and unzip it to find the swype.apk within the /apps folder
The Swype that came with these phones is 3.23. The latest version of swype is 3.26 and you can download it on the swype beta official page. I'd recommend the newer version as it has a few more fixes and such in it that make a difference for me.
You can then back it up with titanuimbackup and when you restore it after flashing other ROMs, it will restore your personal dictionary as well.
Sign up for the swype beta and they will send an installer with the newest version of swype.
Or perhaps try another keyboard w/ swype-like capabilities? I'm using Touchpal right now, and it seems to work just fine for swype'ing, and I also like their word prediction (though maybe not as good as Swiftkey).
Greetings!
**Standard Disclaimer applies here: If you screw up your device trying to follow the steps in this thread, it's not my fault. The second you unlocked your bootloader, you took full responsibility for what happens to your device.**
First, I want to thank SCDevs and xdaid for putting this app out and for continuing development and support. The original thread can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1561729
The app can also be downloaded for free in the Play Store here: http://goo.gl/Zmzmh
May I suggest that you support development of this app by buying the Donate version here: http://goo.gl/SVtyl
What does this app do? This app will make a flashable update.zip of all your apps and their data, /including system apps if you so choose, for you to flash after you complete a full wipe and flash a new rom.
While it is understood that Titanium backup can restore all your apps and data and take a relatively short amount of time to do its job, this app makes it a bit more convenient by allowing you to just flash a zip and be done with it.
Enjoy the app.
I found a bug with the restoration of 2 apps.
Chrome browser
Quickpic
Both apps had to be uninstalled and.reinstalled for them to function. Just a heads up.

The stock sense mms.apk? Idk I haven't tried that. Haven't used a pure stock sensation Rom since last July. I'm guessing no since stock is gb and sense 4.0 is ics. You can try it tho. If you want to save your messages just use.sms backup and restore in the Play Store. It's a free app and has always worked for me.
On a side note, I know the stock ics mms.apk DOES work on sense 4.0. I'm using it on OrDroid right now.
Hope that helped. Lmk if I didn't answer your question.

Wait a second... I get it. You can do the backup and restore from one messaging app to another, you just have to use sms backup and restore or a similar app.

Weird. Ok so the way around that is to grab the update-binary from a rom that doesn't use aroma installer (I used aokp when I tested this) and overwrite the one found in data/data/scdev-app2zip/files then make your backup zip. I know that will work.
>>DARKSIDE<<
I would like to share with you a first test version of my new app:
FlashBackup
Features:
presents you a list to choose from your installed user apps / system apps
backup the APKs
create an AROMA-powered flashable ZIP in order to restore your apps
install Superuser or SuperSU (according to your preference) during restore
lets you chose the apps to be restored in AROMA installer
ROOT NEEDED!
Description:
This is a first test release and not yet feature-complete, only the things described above will work. It will be updated regularly.
This app is targeted at advanced users who regularly wipe and re-flash their phone and therefore need to restore their apps. As this process takes a long time using eg. TitaniumBackup, I wanted to create a flashable ZIP file of the currently installed apps, which can later be flashed using the amazing AROMA installer by Amarullz.
Please note that with this first version, it is not yet possible to backup and restore the app data, only the APKs. You can however use TitaniumBackup to restore only data (which is much faster than restoring apks too).
Currently, it is only tested with a HTC Sensation running the latest version of Bruce2728's CM10 (JellyBean). I would appreciate to get feedback about bugs etc. on other devices in order to fix them.
How-To
select your apps to be included in the backup
press 'Backup' and wait for the process to be finished (if it's the first time using the app, you need to grant root permissions)
find your ZIP ready to be flashed under /FlashBackup/flashbackup.zip on your sdcard
Current known issues:
restore / install process may fail due to incompatible updater-binary for some devices
Probably not compatible with Android 4.2 (not tested yet...)
Planned for future updates (subject to change):
include app data in backup/restore
include device-specific updater-binaries for ZIP file (will increase compatibility with specific devices)
backup apps in .android-secure too (if possible)
allow the destination of each app to be selected during install process (=> convert system to user and vice-versa)
... ?
[*] done: add compatibility for Android versions < 3.0
Devices confirmed working (by user feedback):
HTC Sensation (CM10)
HTC EVO 3D
HTC Desire HD (ICS)
HTC HD2
Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Samsung Galaxy SII
LG e400
Samsung i897 Captivate (MIUI 4.x, Android 4.1.2)

Will this backup Android-secure apps (JB+ apps that do not store their apk file in /data/apps)?
Love the idea. Can't wait to try it out!
Edit: Willing to test it out for ya on a Toro (VZW GalNex) running JB. Willing to flash multiple ROMs (well, not "willing", per-se, more like, "addicted"..."crackflasher" doesn't quite cover it in my case.)
I am willing to give this a try on my myTouch 4G.

Please keep in mind that your app's data is not yet backed up, so restore it with Titanium afterwards! (just a hint in order not to be blamed afterwards for making you loose your data... )
Had been one of the initial proponents and user of App2Zip and had used it regularly until about 2 months ago. It was then that I came across Go Backup that did almost everything I wanted.
I would really start using your app but would wait for a while since I do not use TB and hence would struggle without the data restore. Once that is in place, it would equal GO Backup. The advantage with Go Backup is that t backs up calls log, sms, mms and wifi connections in addition. GO Backup however misses out on restoring system apps and data.
Looking forward

There are 2 directions to consider, in my opinion:
1. Leave the idea like it is (backup user apps, no data, nothing additional) keep it simple and somehow small (I have more than 120 apps in total, so I don't really want to think on the size)
2. Try to get data backup AND system apps backup AND calls, sms, settings, etc -
My main problem are the system apps: if I am making an upgrade of Android, why should I get old system apps?!
And this option MUST allow choosing the apps to install (100% Aroma)
The idea sounds good, I will test it as soon as I will need to reinstall one of the devices.

Thanks for your feedback!
At the moment, it allows to backup the APKs of user apps and system apps as well, but only the APKs.
The idea behind backing up system apk's is that I personally have some apps installed as a system app (for example Theft Aware by Avast, or SuperSU) which are not included with my ROM and therefore get lost with every update. The possibility to include them in the ZIP file and later restore them while flashing the update solves my personal problem of remembering to restore these system apps manually
Concerning the size:
I too have about 130 user apps, and the resulting ZIP is about 340MB in size, so about double the size of the ROM ZIP file , but the restore process is much faster when done by flashing in recovery compared to restoring with TitaniumBackup.
The big advantage is that coming Android phones will get a speed boost in the future (with all the quad-core monsters being unveiled by the manufacturers) and therefore ZIP creation time will decrease significantly I guess...
Any other feedback? What's working, what is not?

with special thanks to wjchen0 for the ntt gps kernel module
Tested and working with ICS and JB 4.1.x
JB 4.2 works, but requires a Siyah based kernel or a kernel designed specificially for the SC-02C, such as KBC.
Please press the Thanks button if it works for you.
Code:
Modem: SC02C-OMLPL
Apps: ClockworkMod SuperUser
Busybox
Tweaks: Set NTP server (jp.pool.ntp.org)

NTT GPS & compass fix
Facebook ContactsProvider database patch (is_restricted=0)
Black camera viewfinder fix for the Docomo rom
CyanogenMod APN xml (with spmode)
Samsung JellyBean fonts (incl. Japanese)
SP-Mode Mail with Push & Docomo Account Authenticator
Docomo emoji library
How to get a working JellyBean rom.
Root your phone and install a custom kernel. Reboot into CWM.
Download a custom rom. I recommend WanamLite or NeatRom.
Download my tweaker.
Install the rom first, then my tweaker.
Reboot, then you're done.
Note : You must install the tweaker every time you do a full wipe.
If you are running Jelly Bean then you can install CommuniCase by Docomo, instead of using SP-Mode Mail.
Changes:
2013/06/16
Updated the DcomoAccountAuthenticator to work with Docomo CommuniCase.
Added support for Docomo emojis in keyboard that use it.
Reverted to the OMLPL modem, as I found it works better.
2013/02/04
Updated the system modules and modem from the latest OMMP4 rom.
2013/01/28
The gps module has a bug that cuases the system to hang at the docomo logo.
You must install this new update to stop it happening.
If you already have the "stuck at docomo logo" problem, download the new tweaker and install on top. It deletes the corrupted file.

Great tweak. Working for me so far and I had a few issues myself. I will say that in order to get the ROM (I'm using Wanamlite 14.0 and the 23 Toggles) and the tweaker working properly I did have to do a full wipe.
I will just recommend that anyone who wants this to work BACKUP - BACKUP - BACKUP.
I also used Titanium Backup (correctly - Thanks Simmo :silly: ) to backup all user apps. Don't worry about the system apps - the ROM takes care of them.
My order of installation -
1 - BACKUP your current ROM - again - BACKUP your current ROM
2 - Use Titanium Backup (use this guide) to back up your user apps so you can get them back afterwards. When using Titanium Backup for the first time on a new ROM, you may get the message about using the phone's original ID, ignore it, let it use the new one.
3 - Follow SimmoF's instructions in the first post
4 - Reboot and enjoy.
Thanks again to SimmoF - buy him a beer.

Then it obviously appears that it is not the ROM or the tweaker causing the problem. Please be sure that you have the right Tweaker B version and boot into recovery and run it through again.
If not, I would say try again but after the ROM installs let it reboot before installing everything else. Run through the google setup stuff, don't do the samsung stuff, skip it.
Then go in and only restore user apps. I always thought I knew Titanium Backup well, but, as Simmo pointed out to me, I was wrong. Go ahead and JUST RESTORE YOUR USER APPS - NO SYSTEM APPS OR DATA. You may also have to go in and set your apn to the spmode.ne.jp .
This is what worked for me. After you have done that and just the ROM and your restoration works, test with a few reboots. Then go and get the tweaker file again. Just to be safe.
I know that, myself, if I let everything settle and check for running operation, then install the 23 toggles, tweaks and sp push files, it works.
If you get stuck at the boot logo AND you have downloaded the Tweaker B version of the file before wiping again - try to boot into recovery and just run the tweaker file as suggested.
DON'T GIVE UP!!!
It's a very smooth ROM. So far...

Run a disk checker.
If on windows. Mount as USB device.
Open a command window on the PX.
Run the command "chkdsk driveletter: /f"
That should fix it. If it says partition type is RAW, then something strange happened and it needs to be formatted.
If your internal /data partition is damaged, you need to do something different. Tell me a If that fixes your problem.

how is your battery consumption\ for wanamlite?
I know this rom is great but the battery really decrease too fast. Even I close the mobile data and wifi. It drops around 5% per hr. compared to cm9, it is far too high
XXLS8 has issues. the XXLSJ leak is much better actually.
I recommend going back to the leak or going to cm10.1
I am playing around with cm10.1 at the moment.
XXLS8 sucks.

I've been trying to download your tweaker on and off now for about two weeks. Tried different combinations with different browsers to no avail.
Every time I click on the file, it just opens up and shows the files in the zip. Its pretty to look at but .....
Can you not just upload to xda???

I had the same problem. It's not the zip file that is a problem - it's google drive
First, I am assuming that you are doing this from the phone itself.
I used Firefox and this is what you need to do -
1-Click the link to download the file and once you are in the directory where you see the zip click on it.
2-It will open and show you the contents of the zip - don't worry
3-Click the menu key on your phone and one of the choices listed will be show as desktop or something like that - click it
4-Let page reload
5-Now at the top of where the zip file is shown, you will see some menu choices - File Edit, etc.......
6-Click File and I think the bottom choice is download. Click that and it should download the zip file.
It will give it a random name but you should be able to get things figured out from here.
Please thank me below and make sure you get simon (or Me - haha) a beer.
