Nexus S is not available through AT&T.
MRQuad, what's the timeframe for you to make a decision? If you want Android on AT&T, there isn't too much at this moment, but the offerings should get better as we get into 2011.

I would recommend wait for 2 more months. Good phones are lined up for release. But this would be feasible only if u have the option to wait, and picking the phone isn't due immediately.
Anything but samsung.
Assuming you want to stay with at&t. Wait and get the Atrix.
That is if you have the option to wait.

Why not research phones you are interested in and decide from there. You don't need people on the internet to make suggestions for you. Would you ask random strangers what car you should buy?

+1
He should read the forums and see what issues to expect.
+1 on the Atrix
or if you can hold off 4-6 months i would think we will start to see some dual cores with 2.3 out of the box
Atrix.
Or, if you absolutely have to get one now, get a Nexus One.
Hey guys, thanks for the honest response.. Appreciate it very much!
actually, i have the option to replace my fone for 3yrs. As long as there is faulty on it.. Kinda insurance thingy for my fone, but i paid extra for it.. The sales guy says i can change it as long as it's the same provider.. Im from canada by the way.
Ican tell there is faulty on my fone.. Do you think i should wait for two years and replace the fone with a new one?
Thanks again!

I was absolutely stoked to upgrade to the S3 until the locked bootloader news hit. So now I ask, with Android 4.1 on the GNEX, is it really worth the extra $50 for another locked Verizon phone? Its got a lot of cool gimmicky features, but they are just that, gimmicky. I don't see anything I'd use on a daily basis in the S3 that isn't on the GNEX already, or has a Port for. It sucks I already bought a micro SD card, and loaded it up, so I can't return it. I really don't like not having an SD card, but I might be willing to sacrefice that for an unlocked phone. What's everyone's thoughts on this? Coming from a Droid X I have little hope the SGS3 will be unlocked.

Well I would say GNEX. But hurry quick before you can't buy it because of the ban !
Simba was moving too slow, so I told him to Mufasa.
Idk developers on the gs3 are already getting a workaround for the boot loader to flash custom kernels. It doesnt seemed to be as locked down as motorala phones

how easy is the work around? I know MOTO had a few and I got sick of jumping through hoops. I have yet to be able to get my DX into CWM without rebooting several times, or general screwing around for 20 minutes. Its the main reason I dropped custom ROM's. Flashing was a nightmare.

I Am running Jelly Bean on my Gnex and it flies, faster than stock gs3. But I am still tempted......
Oh and the new voice command is waaaayyyyyy better than svoice.
Gnex. Until they figure out the boot loader things are going to be slow. Its apparently encrypted as well.

Do they have root for 4.1 yet? I'd imagine so, but didn't see anything skimming the GNEX forums.

Oh ya, root.....mods....some themes...and it's only been a week since it was introduced.
Nice. Sounds like I may be leaning towards the GNEX then. I'll wait until both hit the store since I only NEED root, but I miss running custom ROM's, I haven't done that since the OG Droid.

Hi guys. I just realized my shiny new Galaxy S3 I pre-ordered and received a few days ago from Verizon has a dead pixel (or maybe a few in a cluster, it's hard to tell if it's more than one). Since it's within 14 days of receiving the phone, I should be able to return it for a new handset, correct?
Now that I've seen it, it will surely bother me.

I don't like being nitpicky, but I paid good money for a brand new device, and it's technically defective.
I'm just worried they will say "oh, I can't see it" because it is quite difficult to see, but I have good eyes and it sticks out to me.
What would you guys do?

Alright. I believe tomorrow is the date they're supposed to get actual phones in-store, so I figure I can do it then.
Since it's a pre-order, do you think just my order confirmation sheet and original packaging and such would be enough for them?
I've always had bad luck with getting replacements, even when they're clearly hardware defects that are no fault of my own.

What's the best way to ensure my device is cleaned of all personal data before swapping it?
Reflashing a stock system.img and doing a factory reset should be fine, right?

Simple answer:
Yes if you buy the phone from someone who has an older one running 1.85 or earlier.
No if you buy the phone new from ATT, etc and it comes with 2.20. The 1.85 stock is getting used up and will be unavailable soon so my advise if your buying a new one make the rep turn it on so you can "test" it and look at the software number. If its 2.20 your screwed for now. More than likely the rep wont pop open every HOX for you to look at so if the first one is 2.20 leave and go to another store. If you get lucky and get one on 1.85 root it as soon as possible as you can only delay the update to 2.20 so long (its forced). You cant have a stock phone and keep old firmware they wont let you!!

Guess I'm confused as to how he is a troll considering most of his posts are on the captivate forums, an att phone. Could it be possible that he is looking for an upgrade to his outdated hardware?
I just figured, after being a member for a couple years, and hundreds of posts, he most likely knows that a retarded question like that is probably answered in the forums many times. Before it became a retarded question.

This may sound strange...but i need to find a way to brick my phone so that not even the bootloader will work.
i tried flashing different roms from different phones but everything seems to have a script to check phone models now so it wont let me flash.
i also tried to wipe everything, cache, system and stuff and force rebooting, doesnt work either.
any ideas?
May I ask why you want to do this?

My earpiece volume is very low to the point i cant hear anyone while walking on the street.
i borrowed my sisters onex and hers was totally fine.
i have a service plan through futureshop but they wont take it back if i modified it (they are smart enough to check bootloader which says tampered and stuff all over it)
so in order for me to fix it/get a new one i have to brick it to the point where they cant even see the tampering

His earpiece is defective. If he had not installed a ROM he would have been able to get a replacement. I dont think he should be punished for flashing a ROM by being forced to keep an already detective device.

When did his earpiece start being defective ? I'm sure it didn't come after rooting? he should have gotten a replacement before and than got a new one and than flashed away...butthere is a warning on every root guide that it will void your warranty but oh well.......on a another note if the op wants to brick his phone go to international one x forums and flash coredroid or android revolution roms if u want to do some damage to that baby

I've discussed this many times, unlocking your bootloader does NOT void your warranty.
HTC says it MAY void your warranty.
Flash a ruu and send it back would be the ethical way to go. They don't check the bootloader, they probably send it to HTC or some sort of repair center.
Me personally I would brick it to reduce the chance of them trying to stick me with the cost of the phone. But I wouldnt tell anyone

Actually yes this problem happened after root/bootloader unlock
I am not the only one with this problem and it hasnt been the first phone ive had with this problem either
It was fine for a couple of months and then it was on and off, sometimes the volume will be normal in calls and sometimes it wont
then it just fully dies and stays a low volume
had the exact same problem with my evo3d and xperia arc

Wouldn't a bricked device be more suspicious than a defective earpiece? What would be the situation you could brick a device without unlocking the bootloader, or using a microwave? They can verify the earpiece is bad. I have some sort of defect with the screen, like a scratch or smudge between the LCD and the glass. I was just going to send it back with the bl relocked. But, my new one came with 2.20 already on it. So, I sent it back and will try again later for another, or if an exploit is found for 2.20, or take them up on the early upgrade GS III offer.
How bad is the earpiece issue? Worse than running stock sense? You may want to wait until you get a replacement to decide what to do.
