I live in Austin and in short we do not get LTE coverage (hopefully soon). Latley I've been seeing 4G: LTE at odd hours of the day. Is anyone else getting these false positives? (If it is LTE it doesn't seem as fast as advertised)
testing the network?
theres differences in what att can offer for speeds due to spectrum, i've read all the details, but forgive me i can't remember them right now, perhaps someone else can chime in with it, but there is a reason why some att lte markets aern't very fast, and why some are very fast
Well hopefully the move from "testing" to implementing it soon.
What part of Austin are you seeing LTE in?
I was at UT last weekend and had NO Lte service at all.. Wifi yes..
This was in an around campus. Say Guad and San Antonio.

How fast is it? I second what someone else said about it possibly being in some sort of testing. Makes sense.
Don't have pictures of the tests and currently have a phone in some sort of looping mode because I forgot not to overclock past 1.7 on Da_G...

Lol, I just recovered from my soft brick. Couldn't get to the boot animation. ADB saved the day!
I also go to UT but I currently have the LTE signal in north Austin at 51st/Cameron. I took some screen shots of the speed test. Not very good results. I was getting 2000+kb/s in Houston. Huge difference so I would also figure its maybe a test?
Within the last few hours, I got these speed results (top 3 entries) in north Austin. I'm really confused now..

I may be hallucinating (it's finals) but I think the LTE in Austin is on. I noticed it at 8 pm it's now 4 am.

So I been having problems with my data speeds since my bill cycle started over. I can't get speeds over .04-.05mbps anywhere! when I know I get 3.5-5.5 on a good day and area. I was throttled last bill cycle but now on this bill cycle I'm still at throttled speeds. I've called tmo already 3 nights in a row to see if they still had me throttled. They say I'm not throttled, they troubleshooted so I have a trouble ticket out right now. I'm just trying to see if I can get this fix myself. Tmo is lagging on calling me back. I need my 4g speeds back.the phone is horrible withou it and its killing me.
I just want if anyone with the factory unmodified apn settings can do me the favor of posting it up so I can match it with mine. I would really appreciate it.

well changing the APn's will not adjust anything as far as speeds go. it's a connection problem between your phone and T-Mobile's servers. If you are that low and showing "h" on the not. bar then they still have you programmed as being throttled.

Yeah I do show the H on full bars. That's also what I been trying to explain to them, that only because it shows on their screen I'm not throttled doesn't me I'm not. I'm pretty sure they messed up some where. I just thought that probably the apn had some thing to do with it too. I'm just trying everything I can. They need real techs over there. Every one I spoke to seemed like they didn't know what the hell they wee doing and they were just reading off a page of instructions which I'm pretty sure they were.

are you still at the same area where you used to get the much faster speeds? I've had the mt4g since January and even though I have the "H" and full bars in my city the speeds are always between .15 to .6Mbps down, while the upload is usually around 700Kbps. Got trouble tickets going and service calls until a network engineer showed up at my location to do some testing. Turns out I'm sitting about 40 feet away from the t-mo tower, but given their current configuration, those speeds are all I'm going to get until there's further tower upgrades! I can hop on the freeway and drive south for 20 minutes and find a signal that gives me speeds of 2 to 4Mbps, but too bad I don't live or work there. I was put through the tedious troubleshooting "steps" too, even went as far as visiting a t-mo store and doing side-by-side testing with my phone and two of their phones, switched sim cards twice too. All that drama just to be told that the tower is operating "normally" in its current configuration and that's all the speed I'm going to get for a long time.

Yea I'm still in the same area where I used to get great 4g speeds. Basically most of los angeles has 4g so every where I went I had great speeds. Now every where i go is crappy. The thing is my girl and I are on the same contract and have the exact same plan. Her mt4g is lighting fast as it should be where mine is super slow in the same areas as her and we live together. At first I thought it was the sim card. I did a test where I put my sim in her phone and mine on hers then hers was getting crappy speed and I was getting great speeds. So I thought it was the sim issue every one was talking bout. So I went to a tmo store and they gave me a new sim. But still that didn't fix the problem. So now I knew that it wasn't a problem with the sim nor the device. That's when I really knew the problem was at their end.

I'm at USC in LA, and since yesterday my phone has been having issues connecting to LTE. I haven't heard any news of outages, though, so I'm wondering if something is borked with my phone. I was on CM7, but I tried going completely back to stock and still no dice. Is anyone else having LTE issues?
haven't heard of anything but gaving the same issues since yesterday. In the Burbank area.
Oh, good — then maybe there's a chance that it's not just my phone. Even 3G sometimes drops out, and nothing comes up for LTE Only except 1X.
Weird that nobody is reporting anything, though.

if you are using the radio from chingys leak that is the problem, best one I found for la is the original ota update radio

I think it was an outage because 4G kept flickering all day yesterday and now it seems steadily on today without me changing anything. Thanks for the suggestion though.
there's no LTE yet where i am, but every now and then the 3G will cut in & out for about a day or so(and get stuck at 1X). whenever i call Verizon about it they'll either say there's work being done in my area or an area nearby and just said they could transfer me to a tech to see if there's something on my phone not set correctly or will just give the b.s. "pull your battery for 30 seconds" bit.
good luck if you call them
I'm at USC as well and didn't notice any issues. I was on MR2.5 and flashed the new 802 radio last night which seems even better connection and speed-wise. What radio are you using?
I'm in West LA, on the latest leak, no issues at all yesterday or today.
Currently running on 1x like a boss. Wait a minute that ain't good 4g down on the east side of the city.

same here, it hit about a hour ago. I been reflashing radios and different roms. I think its due to the new cities being added to the 4g network
3G and LTE is out for me too in LA. I'm using 1.48.00.0726w and 0.01.78.0802w_3
currently only 1x and 3G in Vancouver, WA for the past few hours.

The cities included in this initial wave are Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. Although users in those metro areas will still have very few LTE devices to choose from. Unlike Verizon, which has multiple LTE handsets, AT&T has no phones compatible with the new network. AT&T launched a data stick and a portable hotspot for the LTE network last month. The carrier has also started selling a massively overpriced Android tablet, the HTC Jetstream.
sweet im in San Antonio for a little while, now for AT&T to get some phones for me to use !!!
Now if they could hurry up and increase the HSPA+ speeds. I'm still only getting 3.5mb download and 1mb upload in downtown Dallas.... iPhone 3gs gets about the same download speed, although only half of the upload speed.
Come to the other side of the Metroplex. Downtown Fort Worth and I am getting 5-7mb down, 1.1-1.3 up. I can't wait for the Holiday with LTE. That will be SO sweet.

I know the Inspire is not a LTE phone, but just launching the network upgrade has helped me to see vastly improved data speeds. I also know the Speed test app is not accurate, but I have never seen it pull these kind of speeds, especially consistently.
Well, I would like if it came out in Madison soon... (and when AT&T has more LTE Android phones)
Ok I live an hour away from Houston. Do you think I would still be getting LTE? Also do we need a new sim card or anything or does it automaticly happends?

As mentioned, you would need a LTE phone first. But, being an hour away from Houston, I wouldn't run out and buy one when they become available. I live in the outskirt of Houston and HSPA+ is non existent at home. In Houston where I work, as posted, I am just now seeing the true benefit of HSPA+. Probably some bottlenecks from ongoing upgrades being freed up, maybe a little congestion as well.

Knowing how AT&T operates, I'd imagine they opened up more bandwidth to the land-based lines to the area first to make sure their LTE debut went well and you're just seeing some of that extra bandwidth.

I'm not as stupid as you. I know when I'm on wifi. Here is the proof.
Here are some from earlier today. The first two were indoors, a large metal building with offices above on the second floor. The first run was bad, only 2800kbps, but I did hit 4916kbps on the second. I then went outdoors and tested a lil slower than yesterday, but not by much, 6485-7767kbps. I know we can't put too much stock in the Speed Test app, but there is some consistency and I'm getting much higher runs than I had been. Also, it seems to be reading my wifi at home with some accuracy.

Then why do you make statements like LTE network is improving the throughout of a HSPA+ phone on the 3G stack?

Show me where I made that statement. I stated that since the LTE launch, my data speeds have suddenly increased and I'm finally seeing true hspa+, and that is a fact. I provided a couple of possible reasons for this, as someone else cited a possibility as well. I know what you saw. You saw the hosted by Comcast in the screenshot. Lol. Anybody with half a brain would know that there would have been a wifi icon in the status bar if I was on wifi. Next time you open your mouth, try not to put your foot in it. Your little signature says it all. Just because you are in a crummy area, doesn't mean it is like that everywheres.
Check my screenshot of prior tests and tell me if you see any improvement compared to yesterday and today. LOL.

I'm good. I just don't appreciate someone implying I'm either stupid or I'm a liar. It certainly isn't inconceivable that while AT&T was building the LTE network here in Houston, they were improving the backhaul for hspa+. Whatever the source of the improvement, I'm thrilled to see true hspa+ speeds. It is something I never expected to see with my Inspire.

4G LTE is available only in Houston, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Phoenix, San Jose, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C: http://t-mobile-coverage.t-mobile.com/ Did you check the T-Mo coverage map: http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/pcc.aspx/.

First, what speeds are you getting?
Second, changing APNs almost certainly will do absolutely nothing to change your data speeds.
Third, the SK4G doesn't have LTE. It has HSPA 21 as its theoretical max. The best I've ever gotten on it is about 14Mbps on the download.
Is LTE the only 4g option they carry? I just wanted plain 4g not 4g LTE. My speeds are around 250kbps. Very slow. Upload is around 1mpbs.
Also I just checked and I am well within the 4g coverage area of tmobile. I live north of miami

They probably set maximum speeds based on your plan more than anything else. That being said, 250Kbps is a concern if your upload is 1Mbps. I'd call and complain. I know they weren't terribly helpful, but ask for a supervisor if you need to. You may get someone who speaks better English.

Hi,
I live in Pittsburgh PA. It's kind of funny because about 3 days ago I called T-Mobile and asked the Rep when LTE would go live in Pittsburgh PA, and he said probably by September. Well yesterday Morning I got in my car to go to work like I do every morning, I turned on my Sirius app and put on Stern Like I always do and noticed that instead of the normal 4G icon it had the LTE.!!!! This is a day later and it's still on. I'm using an Iphone 5 from T-Mobile..
I am thinking about switching to t mobile. Can anyone else give me some numbers on how their LTE speeds are doing. I live in Carnegie if that helps.

Hey, same here...also in Carnegie. I'm currently with Sprint and they're finally getting LTE running in PGH..I've started getting it here and there. But I'm really interested in switching to t mobile, cheaper and more options phone wise with no contracts..let me know if you hear anything.
I've been in Greentree , Bridgvelle, I know that's not quite Carnegie but I haven't been in that area. In those 2 areas I get full LTE with around 22 - 26 MPS download speeds on my Iphone 5. I can only imagine it's way faster on an S4. If I happen to roll through Carnegie for some odd reason I'll do a speedtest and post it for ya.
I might give T mobile a shot when I am up for a new phone. I was just curious about how well their 4G was in the area.
