Headset buttons - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hi I'm currently on a sprint epic touch.
I was wondering if headset controls like single click to pause, dbl click to skip work on this model of the phone. If they do, can someone please get me a dir of the /system/usr/keylayout ?
I'm trying to get this working on the sprint version as it does not currently support these

I have an HTC Vivid & use a pair of Sony S-10HD's. All my buttons work properly, including long press for FF or RW, press for skip or back, play, pause, volume & even voice command/phone answer button. They all have been tested with Google voice control, vlingo, Android HTC music app, Winamp & Google music.
I did have trouble with the phone and voice buttons on Samsung SGS2, but music related buttons worked.
P.S. What headset model are you referring to? It makes a difference.

I'm talking about just a one button headset, the sprint sgs2 doesn't respond to any of the buttons. someone figured out a mod to get long press to pause play, and we are trying to get the other types of clicks working. The att model apparently has these working out of the box, so if we can get the keylayout.kl file from that we may be able to get it working for us.

Just curious...the headphone functions work so far with apple iphone headphones? you mentioned pause and play?
I can get a copy of the file you asked about. Are you suggesting we just copy of that file from the skyrocket into the ep2 directory or will there need to be changes made to it?
I'll work on getting the file you asked about.

I also have Sprint version of GalaxyS2, and have also found that it does not recognize any headset/earbud controls for pause/play/volume, etc.
I have the Galaxy Tab thru verizon as well, and single button control on my headset works fine there. I use "headset droid" app and it works like a dream...no luck with the GalaxyS2 though.
I scoured the web, called samsung, and checked other forums and there is no answer on this, pretty frustrating...

Ok so the solution for the epic touch is to flash ek02 and the headset mod available on q&a of epic touch forum. And all the controls single, double, triple, click work.

Does this phone support the headset button?

Hello,
When listening to music -
Does this phone support the wired headset button on newer earbud/headsets to pause and FF to the next song?
thanks in advance
Kevin
I'm using the headset from my Nexus One and it has the play, forward and back buttons and it works great. I like it because I can plug them in and hit play without ever waking the phone

I didn't know Android phones could work with headsets like that. Is it a particular headset or will an iPod compatible headset that has the track & volume controls work? If it's a particular headset, would you give me the MFR & model?

i'm interested in this as well. i have the pair from my nexus, but much prefer apple ones.
Thanks for the response.
I use these earbuds on my captivate -
JBuds J3M Micro Atomic In-Ear Earphones with Microphone (look on amazon or other places to buy...)
They sound great and allow me to stop/ff songs on my captivate with the PowerAmp music player.
Other music players work a little differently but still support pause/FF songs from the switch on the wire, which is a huge benefit and time saver.
good luck
Kevin
These are the same ones they gave me when I bought my Nexus One... they work really well for me!

Im using my Samsung headphones from my Windows phone I traded,
and I all I am able to use is the headphone button underneath the volume control which allows me to make a call to the last entry when I double click it, and when i hold it, it brings up the voice dialer. I swear the other day, I was able to go to the next and previous songs when i hit the volume controls up or down. But now that doesn't seem to be working. The volume buttons never seemed to work with the phone, so I guess its just depends what headphones you have.

it works like a charm
i buy it now... i hated the problem that my gt p6200 didn't sound as an iPhone ( very lower than an iPhone ) and i can't use my monster beats BUT NOW with this app it works like a charm! very high volume, very crystalline... you're a genius but let me say... SAMSUNG can't let go out a product with this low level of output volume...
i only HOPE that with the new ICS coming out you will support this app for whose have purchased it and i hope that i can use it with the new ics...
can you say me something about this?
thank you

Great app
most devices you can adjust the volume levels from service menu, not this one, also galaxy note. The option is there number 5 AUDIO but does nothing when pressed.
Stupid issue guys, did someone try to use his Tab 7+ in AUX out mode since installed this app?! I did, I usually use my P6200 as an mp3 player in my car (with a simple jack male/male).
Once I just had to pitch with volume keys up/down to increase/decrease it without touching my stereo...Now playing with those keys it let you increase/decrease dBs, no more the whole volume audio (that I have to set with the stereo grrrrr)

annoying bug
hi everyone, i found a bug and i sent 2 mails to support but no replies... may you help me and say me how to solve this problem?
i'll report here the two mails:
mail#1: the app works like a charm but every time i touch the screen and the system gives me a sound the volume became 0.0 db...
for example, i'm listening music and i use your app to give me more 5db... when i push with my finger on the next track button the volume became 0.0 db ( default value ) and the songs change (it's ok, i say it with my finger ) .... also a Facebook notifications appears system plays the sound notification and the volume became 0.0db, EVERY TIME i have to push the external buttons of volume on my tablet to reactivate the activity of your app... ( only 2 push are needed - 1 for volume sound control appears on the screen and 1 more to move the value, as soon as the value is moved for example from 9db to 8.5 db the app return to do his job )
mail#2 (new details after more working days):I'm back to remind you that the application voodoo louder on GTab plus has a little but noisying bug.. I tried to solve it with this action: i unselect the sound of clicking buttons: selection tone... Now when I touch something on the screen the volume remains the same as setted in your app... But I can't remind myself every time I listen music to unselect it... And if a notification comes up in lose the higher volume of your app...
---------------------------------------------------------
say me how you solved this problem and if it's only mine...
thank you all Xda Users

Are you sure that when you for example lock your tab with the external button the volume doesn't decrease? Try playing music with any player you want, increase volume with vodoo louder for example of + 5db and while you're listening your track hit the lockscreen button... Your volume will go to 0.0db, don't confuse yourself with the smart boost line at bottom... THE line will say + 5db but if you try to adjust volume you will understand that you are listening at 0.0db.. Try and say me something.

It keeps it's setting just fine. Smart boost simply extends the upper range, similar to how Voodoo sound behaved on my Galaxy S. I can post screens if you truly need proof.

Headset for Music Controls

Anyone found an iPhone type in the ear headset with volume and track control for Google Music streaming to work on the One X?
If I use the iPhone headset or any button headset on the One X when I double click the song track does advance, but the One X also redials my last call at the same time.
So looking for a Google Music control headset.
Thanks
I am using a pair of ibeats from a rezound phone and the controls work perfectly and as a plus match my red case.

Look for some made for Android and they will work. The iPhone ones will work but you have to download a program and reassign the controls.
I personally just got a pair of ibeats like above said. It works 100% and matches lol.
Try the marketplace. A lot of Rezound owners will sell their ibeats separately.

When you say the controls work perfect does the volume up and down buttons work for you?
Now that we've got root (the Rogers users anyway,) I plan on doing some work towards this end. I've got some nice Denon earbuds, but they're designed for the iPhone, and thus the volume buttons do nothing. The middle button works fine as play/pause, but as the OP states, double-clicking redials, and a long-press pulls up Cyberon Voice Commander (not sure if this is present in the AT&T model.)
I fixed the long-press thing before by simply disabling Cyberon, however, I'd rather implement proper control over what the headset does.
The bad news is that logcat doesn't actually log the pressing of the buttons, only the results of the buttons being pressed. So, when I press the volume keys, I get no information at all. I don't have much time to work on this now, but hopefully on the weekend I'll find some time to dig into the Android source and find where the remote media buttons are defined.
Excellent this sounds great.
From what i have seen for remote apps on the Play store in the descriptions developers have said that it is an OS limitation. That the OS doesn't detect clicks from the volume buttons. craig0r what you said seems to confirm what I had previously found.
But please look into it and it would be great if you can find a fix. You could definitely make some good money if you made it an app and published it in the Play store
I came across a free app called Jays Headset, I emailed the guy and he got right back to me.
It works great with Google Music and my iPhone headset, though not the actual volume buttons on the headset. Works with any headset it seems.
Did I mention it was FREE

At the very lowest level, the OS must detect the clicks. It will certainly require root , as I'm sure I'll have dig into the linux HID system. It might even require a modified driver, at which point I'll probably give up since I've never made drivers before I don't see this being worth the effort.
I would actually love it if I could use the volume buttons for volume, but my hopes right now are that I can get the volume buttons to emulate the skip/search buttons on android earphones, like the ones HTC used to include. (Speaking of which, wtf is up with no included headphones?? I knew we were gonna get Beats headphones, but come on.)
Oh, and I'd likely provide the app for free. It's not going to be pretty, it will require root, and it's something I feel should be included in the OS anyway, so I don't think it'd be fair to charge for it.

Sennheiser PX200 IIi headset with Desire S

Hey, my question is as follows:
I bought the PX200 IIi headset, which I kinda like, but the mic is not working in itself. It does not work because it uses the Apple standards. I did my research, the best option seems to be buying an adapter, that will make it work on any android phone. For example, THIS seems to do the trick for some ppl. Will it work in my case? Is it the best solution? Is there a cheaper(6,5$ for an adapter...) solution? I would try it, but the only option is to order it, I did not find any store with theese.
Thanks in advance, cheers
hey have you managed to sort this thing out ?
I' m searching for headphones and i am thinking of should i go for the px 200 II or go for the px 200 IIi ? Is it worth spending some euros more and having the mic but being unable to control the sound from the controller ?
Have you tried any of those app's that allows you to modify the action of the headset's controls ?

Since I bought a Nexus 4 meanwhile, I had to recheck, I forgot what is working and what is not on the Desire S (keep in mind I flashed Endymion ROM, to have a device with android 2.3.x for app testing purposes, so no idea how other ROMs behave):
- the microphone is suprisely working, I remembered it wasn't
- the volume buttons are not working
- the play-pause button seems to not work on default music player, but if I remember correctly, it worked with Poweramp.
However, I bought the Nexus 4 meanwhile, things are a little bit different: microphone is working flawlessly, play-pause button is working flawlessly, but volume buttons are still not. I guess it is a hardware issue, since I wrote a mini application to test if _ANY_ headset buttons are getting clicked, it should at least respond with a text, that "Button with id 37482343289 clicked.", and the app doesn't intercept any click events on volume buttons.
No, I did not tried any of those apps, since it seems to be a hardware issue, I doubt any software could solve it, but I can be wrong. The best tip I have for you is: give it a try before you buy it, if it works, it is definitely useful.

[Q] How to skip track with headset buttons

Did anyone try a wired headset with mic and buttons on Nexus 5 or other LG phones?
Can I use these buttons to skip tracks forward and reverse?
It seems they only act as volume control and play/resume on Nexus 5.
I couldn't figure out it's Android, phone or headset problem.

Yes, I did. I have tried double-press too.
check out the jays headset app in the play store, lets you set options for the one button on some android phones
Anyone know how to adjust the volume using apple earbuds?
Android app for controlling your 1 or 3 button headset
Do you also want to control function of your headset buttons? If you want full control and also the possibility to control online music services via your headset (play/pause etc one of the things that HAS been working better on the iPhone because of their way of integrating functions with their app makers) like Spotify, Pandora, Rdio and more you would need the free app from the guys at Degauss Labs.
The app is found on google play by the searchwords "degauss labs"
They just added suppor for Android 6.0 Marshmallow
http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shengande.degausslabs
Its brilliant, ad free and no catch. Use it and love it

I tried Headset Button Controller and Jays's and neither managed to change the up and down buttons' settings, only the center one. I have the Samsung Galaxy S3 default 3 button earphones on Nexus 5.
I'm gonna pretend this guy is not a marketer and give this app a shot. tired of going through all these settings
EDIT: Same issue... I can set the button for Next Track and Previous Track but it doesn't react, it just changes the volume as usual.
I got no luck either. It seems system intercepts the buttons first. No matter where I am, the system volume slide pop up when I press the buttons.
I got a hunch it might be LG's design issues. I was thinking it could be my haedset wasn't compatible to LG's phone. So I browsed Amazon looking for a headset specifically stated it worked on LG's phones. It turned out all of them were one button headsets. This result made me wondered somehow LG doesn't support 3 buttons headset control intentionally.

Hi
I never said the up and down button was programmable on the Nexus 5. These are hard coded by LG and will not do anything but +/- volume. It i snot the app´s fault but LG´s idea of making "Life Good" Only the center button is programmable on the Nexus 5.
But if you try the same app with the Nexus 3 by Samsung you will see the app makes all buttons programmable. As Samsung left the buttons possible to program.
But if you find this a drag, just think if you had the Nexus 4 from LG where there is only a one button support.
Bye
This thread really helped me out. I've been using Samsung phones up till a month ago when i bought my nexus. The first thing i noticed when i tried listening to music via poweramp and google play music was that the double and triple click to change tracks did not really work as well as they did on my S2. However, the deguass app really works well. Thank you.

does this mean that nexus 5 has no built in support for buttons from the headset?
Hi, please check this app, it can skip track using volume buttons single or double clicks.

1 or 3 buttons
Yes, some phones only have support for one button headsets example Motorola Droid Maxx. But most have 3-button support today.
ALL LG´s (2015+2016) support 3-button headsets, ALL Samsungs support 3-button headsets as well, ALL Nexus phones after Nexus 4 supports 3-buttons, ALL Xperia Sonys.. you just need a real Android headset. As a user of the Degauss Headset Control Center which I think is faboulus in function and totally free app, I suggest to support the guys who made that at Degauss Labs. They have a truckload of Android eadsets that might fit your thinking, you´ll find them on www.degausslabs.com I myself use the Noir´s which are superb.
In my previous comment youll find the Headset App now also supporting Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Nexus 5x, Nexus 6P and many others are coming... Youll need that App to tailor the button clicks and set them to actiavte your musicplayer and "control" it.
Cheerio!
