hey guys,
I am considering buying a sensation phone, but what bothers me is that the screen resolution is different from the standard 800x480px in all current smartphones.
will the sensation phone be the only one using that resolution?
will samsung build new displays with even higher resolutions?
and considering these questions: will all the apps you daily use be optimized for that high resolution? or will there be graphical glitches everytime you install a software not optimized for that screen resolution?
i dont want to buy a phone that has unique high screen resolution with noone apart from sense 3.0 and a browser profiting by using it.
tell me what you think about these things!
thanks!
So far, most apps I've tried work perfectly. The only one I know off the top of my head is Robot Unicorn Attack, it seems to only display it at the 800x480 resolution and the rest of the screen is black
is there some kind of scaling mechanism?
I guess it all depends on how the app is coded. Such as using relative values rather than absolute.
Basically, Angry Birds runs fullscreen, my piano app works great, but Robot Unicorn attack was the only one I tried which doesn't run in fullscreen.
Some of the carrier apps on my phone to check balance and what not look a bit pixelated on the graphics though.

Groupon and Open Table are my only issues, but just visual problems. They run well otherwise.
All 102 apps i got work fine.

I didn't see a thread about anything like this, so i thought i'd make one.
Basically it's for videos that you can use to "show off" the qHD display in your Sensation.
I'll start off with a few suggestions, and i'd love to see what everyone else thinks.
To get the best quality for Vimeo videos i'd suggest you download each one and then put them on your phone (Each Video has a download link that is accessible when using the Desktop version of the site)

Vimeo has a built in download function on their website (on the right)
Anyone else have any videos that help show off the screen?
Streaming Vimeo over wifi works fine for me.
Everyone else probably knows this, but I was really unimpressed using auto brightness. Overriding to a brighter setting made a huge difference, from blah to wow.

I hope you don't actually think qHD has anything to do with the quality of the screen/ videos..

Only in the sense that HD video fits the screen perfectly, rather than having black bars as on non-qHD screens, so you get the full resolution of the screen.
Just as a side note, I also have a Vibrant with the SAMOLED screen. I haven't been using it for a couple of weeks since I got the Sensation. Turned it on the other day and was shocked at how bad the colors looked. Oversaturated and the color balance looked way off. I always thought it was a great screen, but the Sensation looks much more natural to me now.
i hope you guys don't think the sensation is full hd
HD only specifies the resolution, and not the display type. qHD = quarter of full HD.
Full HD is 1920x1080 so a quarter of that is 960x540.
I hope you don't think..........

No, we don't all think that. The form factor (16:9) is the same as HD, thus HD video fills the screen perfectly, without bars. HD plays at the full resolution of the phone's screen, whereas on a SGS2, for example, you only get a portion of its lesser 800x480, or the video must be cropped to eliminate the bars.

Yes, We know the Sensation has a Super LCD & qHD is the resolution.
Thanks! I made this video my wallpaper on my sensation!
Via Video Wallpaper app on the Market. And if you view this thread on your sensation, when you watch the video, it gives you an option to download it. God I love this phone. Thanks again.

The best video I've seen on the sensation are high profile h264 videos at 720p or 1080p. Noticeably better than those Vimeo and Youtube videos.
Please check out this thread i made where i actually make this video's into a live wallpaper.

I'd still suggest that everyone downloads the HD versions via a pc or the pc version of vimeo, to get the best quality.
pretty good videos
I showed my friend my Avatar BluRay rip and he was in awe. He bought an EVO 3D only days after.

So all these AnTuTu and other test apps are great. But they don't test real world needs.
I hope you guys will pull up this link on both your computer and also your Skyrocket to compare how well the GIF's play. On my desktop computer, all the GIF's play at normal speed and smoothly.
On my Android, they load up at the same speed, but they play slower.
I've tried two different ROM's and kernels so far, with same results. My phone plays all the GIF's in the page at a slower speed than my desktop computer.

Not a BS website. Actually a pretty cool one, if you're into Motorcycles.
And lots of funny GIF's on this page.
Oh yea, NSFW!!!
Nobody?
C'mon, it's a cool link.
Only some of the GIF's are NSFW. Most are just funny or stupid GIF's.
I'd really like to know if it's only my Skyrocket that has trouble with displaying all GIF's at the same time, or if all Skyrockets do.
There are some pretty funny ones. My SR plays them slow as well. But if you open just one individually it plays fine. So idk if its the mass amount on one page, or if it actually struggles with rendering a full page and a GIF.

Weird format, but there you have it. The default launcher forces you to crop the wallpaper for both landscape and portrait, so it has to be 1920*1920 to remain native, and the corners get cropped out.
Post yours!
I'm using one from the gallery that comes with the Infinity - the one with a stone in water, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28872415&postcount=3

Are you sure? Native for 1280x800 is 1408xsomething. Is the 700 a different wallpaper system?

I was thinking the exact same thing. According to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766025 the wallpapers that come with the device are all over the place resolution wise, but they're much higher than 1920x1920. There is an ideal resolution, but at this time I dont think anyone knows what it is.
Perhaps if someone could get the wallpapers included on the Acer A700, if they're consistent they'd give us an exact resolution to look for.
Edit: Looked through an A700 firmware image, most of theirs are the 1920x1408 resolution used on 160DPI tablets. There's one 2048x1920 resolution one, but that cant be correct since the aspect ratio is wrong.

The TF700 has a screen resolution of 1920*1200. The wallpaper has to be cropped in a cross-pattern so it fits in both portrait and landscape. The minimal resolution that allows this without stretching the image is 1920*1920, which is also the resolution at which the image is displayed pixel-for-pixel.

That would be the case if this were an iOS, webOS or WinRT tablet. However, Android tablets have scrolling wallpapers. As such, it'll still be stretched.
According to my (possible inaccurate) calculations, if the 700 uses the same wallpaper system as the prime and 800p tablets, the default res should be 2880x2112. This was calculated using the 1920x1408 resolution of 800p tablets. Not sure if correct though.

I came to the same conclusion, but didnt post it because my Infinity hasnt arrived yet and thus I cant actually check that fits. Not to mention its difficult to find good wallpapers in that resolution right now.

I suppose you could use macbook retina wallpapers. Apple's marketing is excellent so lots of people should have them which generates lots of wallpapers.

That thought crossed my mind too, but I believe they're only 2880x1800 so it'd be a bit stretched. At this point, it might be best to just find a larger resolution image and crop it to 2880x2112.
OK, last night I said I would go on /hr/ to get some massive wallpapers. Anyways, here they are after someone so RUDELY deleted/censored my post.
http://www.mediafire.com/?axdynlnio5ah5ug
They are all above 2880x2112. You guys should check out /hr/ sometime, they have some really massive images there. Also, yes, there is some weeaboo stuff in there, but most of it is just landscapes, other art or photos.
Thanks for the pack!

You've gotten your 700 already? Confirmed no scrolling wallpapers? In that case, I'll be upping my huge 400 mb 1920x1200+ wallpaper folder. Thanks for the info.

If the wallpapers indeed dont scroll, then the OP is correct and you need 1920x1920 to cover when the device is in portrait.
I just received mine and am in the process of ricing it. The stock launcher does not scroll but I installed apex, for ricing purposes, and that does scroll the wallpapers. However, the gallery cropper does this weird overshooting thing, so I still don't know what the resolution should be.
Does anybody know the correct resolution for the tf700? Or an app that crops higher resolutions good?

is there any app similar to afterfocus but for videos.. i would love an app to take advantage of the 1080p camera. any recommendations?
I didn't know what afterfocus was until I read this thread and checked it out. Its a cool app, but to be able to do that with video would be a whole other thing. They made editing pictures extremely simple, I couldn't imagine it being that easy or even possible for video without doing it frame by frame. But the way tech is moving now a days, who knows what will happen in six months.

To do this with video would require processing power that simply does not exist in any phone. It would require a cluster of very powerful computers to do a simple video, forget 1080P. Just not gonna happen anytime soon.
