EpicMTD conversion scripts - Epic 4G Android Development

EpicMTD is a project that replaces Samsung OneNAND FSR Drivers with OneNAND MTD drivers from the Nexus S 4G.
It uses YAFFS2 filesystem and you cannot replace it with EXT4.
EpicMTD conversion script for MTD-Kernels and will be used in CyanogenMOD.
It for developers(including winzip or WinRAR or 7zip developers) only and MTD support is coming. ( NO ETAs!)
MTD is used in Nexus S 4G and many devices even the Evo 4G.
Currently no kernel support this! It must be supported in the recovery kernel and boot kernel itself

I think this means good things in the near future. Glad you're back.

Is this flash able?

Do you have a kernel and CWM that supports it? Unless you're a dev working on low level stuff, you have no need for it. If you are such a person, I'm sure you can figure out what to do with the file. I'm not a dev of any sort, but I'm sure I'm at least pointed in the right direction. Let me know if I'm wrong.

And I was tempted to encourage him... He's stirred up plenty of BS with no real benefit to anyone here, so I figured... maybe he would get a different phone to replace his perma-bricked Epic
Not that I would seriously do that to anyone, no matter how much of a pain in the ass they've been... but the temptation was there, lol

Is it a matter of you just adding the support in the kernel configuration file, or do you actually need to add specific code to the source?

[Q] how to overclock G2x using Weapon 2.4 ROM?

First of all, sorry in advance if the answer was right in my face and I missed it. I did search for a way to overclock my g2x running weapon g2x 2.4 ROM but I could not find it. I have read different people's post stating that they use the same ROM as I do and that the are overclocked.
I would really appreciate if someone could point me to the place where I can download the necessary files that are used and can give me step by step instructions on how to install and use properly.
Thank You in advance.

ROM Manager 4.7.0.5 Support for Samsung Galaxy S4G (T959V)

Hi All,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4G(T959V) phone and planning to install a Cyanogenmod 7.1 . I have installed the ROM Manager 4.7.0.5 from market and trying to install the CWM Flash Recovery. When i click on CWM Flash Recovery it is prompting me to enter my Mobile model and i get the following Options - Google Nexus S, Google Nexus S 4G, Samsung GalaxyS i9000, Samsung GalaxyS i9000 (MTD). I am not seeing the T959V model here. I would like to know whether Cyanogenmod 7.1 is supported on Galaxy S 4G. Please let me know.

You'll probably boot loop if you flash a ROM like that. Try reading the Bible in-depth before you end up causing a hard brick.

It's okay man. There's plenty more to live for! LOL!
Seriously, under the stickies thread, under the 10 commandments, the second item states not to use ROM manager from the market. You need to flash a kernel with CWM. A 2 second search in this forum will tell you what you need to do. Try FB's guide to gingerbread or just the noobs guide to flashing. Follow the instructions exactly and you will be fine.

on topic no rom manager doesnt work with this phone id uninstall it fast please use kryons cwm final if you need to get out of froyo... and into another rom at least tell u flash a gb rom or froyo rom ( your choice really) and get a kernel that has cwm built inside it
as far as cm7 goes without source to the kernel were dead in the water or tell we work around it which ever comes first if you have any questions feel free to ask also remember to check out the sgs4g bible and any of the how to threads and just read and get informed on what your doing to your device ... Good luck and happy flashing...

I agree.
The reason to not use CwM from Rom Manager is that the device tree for the galaxys4g is not complete. It doesn't have voodoo-lagfix, or the mods it takes to run a stock or modded rom:
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_samsung_galaxys4g
If you want CwM, please follow the instructions here or here.
Also, from what I understand, a majority of the devs working on SGS4G dislike using CyanogenMod. So I wouldn't expect that stuff to work anytime soon.

THe reason rom manger does not support the sgs4g is not that its not complete is the fact the device structure is diffrent then all the other samsung devices diffrent mount pont system stl110 blocks vs mmc blocking that the other roms use. the swapped parttion info. no interal sd card mapping so on so forth..
THe device does have voodoo lag fix... NOt sure where you are getting this info from but 99.99 percent of the roms have lag fix aka ext 4 support in the kernel once again wrong please post correct info..
as far as cwm goes the lack of gingerbread sourcecode is whats holding it up not the devs... Once samsung releases gb and the sourcecode you will see cm7 and more asop roms as we will be able to actually run custom kernels....
the devs here are not against it we just cant control what Samsung does....

The bml/stl devices come from the XSR/FSR driver.
If we had GB source, or if we go back to FY source, we could remove this driver and configure mtd block devices. But I don't think you want to move to yaffs2, or god forbid, jffs2.
The mount points are different, because the sgs4g, unlike the other sgs devices does not have internal sd.

The recovery has voodoo-lagfix(ext4), not the device.
If we moved to mtd instead of XSR/FSR, we wouldn't need voodoo-lagfix, but we would have to worry about the performance drop of moving to yaffs2.

You install them the same way you install any ROM, through recovery. Just make sure the kernel is compatible with your ROM.

Sorry for being absent.
First thing you need is to Nvflash clockworkmod(CWM) recovery. You can find it in the application and development section.
Then either choose faux kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102720
Or the trinity(go for the T15 max for OC) kernel from this MIUI thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412046
Make a nandroid backup before you proceed flashing those kernels inn CWM. Read the instructions in both linked thread for the proper way of installing kernels/mods.
Good luck!

I prefer faux's kernel since i feel it consumes less juice. Same according as mtg3, i underclock/undervolt it to save battery juice. Happy that it is working for you!

[Q] Normal quad score no cheating

Hello Everybody!
I know that quad scores don't mean anything. But! I was just wondering why my scores are so low. I followed FB's gingerbread starter pack and flashed whitehawkx's valhalla. I get a score of 1713. I just want to know if this is normal. I am 98% sure that I followed FB's guide step by step.
Not sure if this gives any more information but whenever I do the test the phone seems to get stuck on I/O 2/4.
Thanks!
Are you sure you have lagfix enabled?
I believe in this gb world you should be up around 2500
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
I don't think I ever hit 2500, but I have been over 2100. +1 to what QUIETLYloud said about voodoo lagfix being enabled. Make sure "voodoo lagfix" is enabled as well as "/system lagfix"
Yes I went to cwm and clicked on both of those options and that was the score i got. Thanks for the reply! Any other suggestions?
Run it 3 times in a row and see how badly it fluctuates?
I did it 3 times right now. I got 1750, 2074, and 1595. That was the first 2000+ I ever got. I have been using this rom for about 2 days now. Interestingly, that was also the first 1500 i got. All the other runs have produced 1700 consistently.
Thanks for the reply.
See why no one trusts or cares about quad scores? If you want a better reading on your devices actual performance try antutu benchmark.

Is there a chance that this release could be ported to devices running AT&T OTA ICS release? I am specifically interested in porting because I like the lapdock 3.0 feature of "Blurred" Rom.
Have anyone attempted to install that CN JB release on AT&T phone? Why isnt that possible?
Thanks so much in advance.
Ok. This has been discussed many times already.
For the moment there's no version available for AT&T.
Just wait until a developers port this.

I know there is no art version but I see no threads discussing why. You said it has been discussed. Where?

Ok i think u are a new user
This was discussed when we were on gb and ics China leak came out
Due to the cruelness of ATT u cannot flash the bootloader of other Chinese roms or any other rom
So this is a easy reason but if u want to know all details u can dig posts till ics leak
And seeing ur curiosity i think u are trying to port something if not then i am sorry but ur argument is invalid :banghead:

Alteredlikeness is still here. But he must be working on his PA ROM.
life!
OK, as a parting gift I will port this and make a flashable CWM zip, but I need help from someone who flashed it to their phone already. Someone who has an SEARET or MEARET phone, preferably.
What I need is a dd of /system and the boot partition (the boot partition is so we can get the kernel updates for the cm and open source ROMs).
In my opinion everyone with a ATT A2 needs to be patient. If there are any devs working on this it will take some time. This phone doesn't play well with firmwares. Also if anyone is working on a rom for us they are going to keep quiet about it because they will get hounded by the public in here as to when it will be released if they speak up. We need to be focusing on cheesecake at the moment just in case.

Actually he has a point. Noone has piped up and said they are working on using the CN JB and making it functionally on ATT.
Unless I wrong, I don't think it's a bootloader issue.
What is a Bootloader?
The bootloader is a program code that is executed before the device OS starts up, and that instructs that device to boot “normally”. The bootloader can come locked or unlocked from the manufacturer. A unlocked bootloader will allow you to install custom ROMs & Kernels (as well as some other neat things) on your device.
Since the CN JB is essentially stock, not custom and the kernel is 3.0.31 I believe, and ICS is 3.0.1. I don't think the bootloader is the issue. Again, I may be wrong. The kernel version may be off enough to barf on boot.
In my mind, again I could be wrong, it would be similar like what wanggjghost did for the MIUI for Retail Asian/ATT. Which is running sweet on my US ATT phone.
The MIUI for Retail Asian/ATT phones, is a rom based on MIUI patch rom for Retail China stable branch project and re-packed for retail Asian/ATT phones.
This rom solved the battery drain issue(wake lock issue) when flashing official miui on retail asian/att phones.
Who developed Miui? Xiaomi Tech, a Chinese mobile phone company. Which would make it a Chinese ROM.
We are still left with three talented devs, wanggjghost, alteredlikeness, and rdavist. Not sure if TimmyTim is still around.
The reason no one has probably mentioned they are working on making it work for ATT phones is because they don't want/need people busting their balls every half hour asking when it will be done.
They have lives. They are busy. Sometimes they just mess around with getting something running on THEIR phones. Then they are generous enough to share it with the rest of us.
Wow, I must be tired.

And during my rant, Jim swoops back in for a final act of kindness.
Hopefully I'm right and these commands will get Jim what he needs
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk1p15 of=/mnt/sdcard/boot.img
and this: dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk1p21 of=/mnt/sdcard/system.img
1. Fire up your command prompt and go to the directory that you have ADB installed to. Type "adb shell" and hit enter.
2. Type "su" and hit enter. You now have root privileges.
Type the commands above and it'll save off to your sdcard.
I don't remember you may need to mount system. Below should do that.
adb shell
su
mount -o remount, rw /system
If my instructions are incorrect, please someone correct them.
And an premature THANK YOU to whoever gets this done for Jim to give ATT users a massive parting gift !

I have flashed it. Anything u ask, I will be glad to help
But what is DD?
For what it's worth, I PM'd Samcripp to see if we could get some cheesecake going for ICS. I see on Motowatcher that some of the servers have been updated just days ago. I've been trying like mad to find a way to check them manually, but no avail. If any AT&T users can get back to 2.3.5, it might be worth it to do so and load up cheesecake and motowatcher, and see if there's any goodies hiding in those servers.
Poor Jim, every time he thinks he out, we drag him back in. Seriously though, there isn't a person here that doesn't appreciate all he's done for us.

DD is basically a backup of the partitions in one file.
The instructions I posted were pulled from another thread after we got ICS leak. I just haven't verified if the /dev mount points are valid.
I'm hoping a dev sees this thread to verify I'm right.
If I don't see anything this afternoon and them and notify them of Jims offer.
Thanks for offering to help!

Direct dump?? you mean copy the /System folder into a USB drive and zip it and post it here??
Where is boot partition and how to dump it?? Or Shall I make a fresh install and create CWM backup and post it here?
It`s easy. just install some kind of terminal emulator (find it on Google Play)/ Start it and execute
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk1p15 of=/mnt/sdcard/boot.img
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk1p21 of=/mnt/sdcard/system.img

Yes, those commands are correct, except please do not post the links here in this thread, please PM me with a place to download them.
I do not want anyone accidentally trying to put these on an AT&T phone and bricking. I have some magic that I will need to work first before these can be used.

Please do not post the link to DL them here.... PM me with a way for ONLY me to get them. I will then make it work on the AT&T phones.
If someone else wants to play with these files please PM me, and we can talk.
