Restart Frozen Atrix 2 without battery pull? - Motorola Atrix 2

Good Morning! My Atrix 2 has frozen up after having issues saving a single camera picture. I have an otterbox defender on and taking the entire case off to do a battery pull is going to suck. Is there a way to reboot the phone holding a button combo for a certain amount of time? Thanks!

it will be a combo of hardware buttons. try power, volume up or down and camera
it's usually press and hold a button, then tap power while holding the others

I'd like to know also, I have the commuter and it is by far the hardest to get off and I've had this case on 3 different phones

[Q] Anyway to force power off?

After playing around with my new gtablet for a bit, I went to shut it down... The device is stuck on "Power off, Shutting down" screen...been over an hour, pretty sure it's not going to shut down. The battery is fully charged, and I've tried holding down power, plus various combinations of power and volume, but I can't seem to find a way to force the power off... Any suggestions? Guess by morning the battery will be dead...
So... I got impatient and opened it up to hit the reset button... Not sure why they didn't leave a little hole in the case to allow you to reset the device in these situations... I plan to drill a hole soon.
There are some helpful tips for disassembly in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842354
I was thinking of drilling a small reset hole.
It would be nice to have a hole for the reset button. Haven't needed it yet though. My G-Tab (at least is behaves that way) will force power down if you hold the power button for about five seconds.
I never read the manual to see if this was an included feature. I just did it one day instinctively thinking it would force power down like a regular PC. It did....

power button replacement

hello everybody!
I have a broken power button on my nexus s and I have now remapped my buttons with the power on the volume+. It's not a great problem to have the phone configured like this, but I won't that my volume button turns broke with the intense use.
Have anyone replaced his power button? Does it need to be soldered or it need to be simply joined to the mother board?
Thank you :good:
Noone?
I took mine apart because it broke "open" so t was not possible to power on the device at all (until I messed around and found a way)
So there's 5 solder pads, 3 at the back 2 at the front. The middle pad on the back is connected to one of the outer pads, and the other outer pad is shorted to those 2 other pads when you press the button, The 2 front pads are used to hold down the switch.
Anyways, I got it out with a soldering iron but the 1 important pad got damaged.
The way I figured out to power it on was to install kies with the drivers option (just installing the samsung drivers was not enough), then get odin 1.83, this tool and CWM touch img file from the cwm website (converted to tar with that tool).
Then I turned on the phone in download mode (hold the 2 volume buttons and insert the usb cable), flashed the CWM touch tar file with odin 1.83 with the reset option on and the phone booted on into android. It's a pain but it works.
I found power buttons online for like 10$ but honestly it seems like a PITA to replace. I use button savior and if my phone dies it usually turns back on when I Plug in the charger or pop the battery in and out.

This guy works fine:

It's an half dolar on a local electronics store here (Turkey). And every samsung tackle button works with Nexus S.
You don't need to spend for that button much.
I also replaced my nexus S power button. Soldered by myself. Not so hard if you have some experience with soldering...
Mine costs about $12 for replacement, service included. Actually they took an old volume rocker thingy from a beat up samsung phone, and soldered it on mine. Been doing fine for 12 months now. I installed screen off and lock so I won't stress it too much again. Use volume rocker wake if it's included on the current ROM that you are using.. Again so that you won't beat up the little guy once you have it fixed.

Question on non-removable battery?

Say you get into a bad flash situation/hanging boot screen that just resets upon reboot and cant get to recovery. A battery pull in the past a has allowed subsequent access to recovery. What do you do in the case of a non-removable battery phone? Never had one and have used the batt pull method a lot.
Thanks.

Holding power and volume up until screen goes off and phone vibrates will restart device. Power and volume down will boot into recovery. Try both to become familiar.
Power + Vol Down & Up apparently cuts the power to the battery? Either way if the "cuts power to battery" part is wrong it still cuts it off.

only power + vol up cuts power on the M8, actually.
but yeah, battery pull on the M8 is simply holding power + vol up. Have had to do it dozens of times while hanging at start screens, works fine.

Device will not power on, no led lights, cannot get into recovery, etc.

Hi All,
I am having a bit of trouble with my Galaxy S6 device. I am unsure if this was the cause of my issue, though yesterday I had dropped my phone from a short distance. When I had picked my phone back up it was powered off and would not turn back on. This is not the first time my device has powered down from a fall, and this is not the first time I had difficulty rebooting my device.
My phone does not appear to be responsive to any attempts, nor does it indicate by LED that it is charging. When I dropped the device, I was just then taking it off the charger as the battery was at full/near full.
I have tried holding the power button, holding the power button and volume buttons, holding the power button and each of the volume buttons on their own, as well as holding the power button, volume down button, and the home button. I have not had any luck with any of these solutions, nor was the device responsive to any of these solutions.
When I plug the phone into its charger, the power brick does appear to be warm, though this may just be wishful thinking on my part. I have tried the power brick that came with the device as well as a third party power brick.
At this point I am going to try to get into recovery via ABD, but I am not confident that my device will even be recognized by my computer.
Many of my online accounts have an authenticator from my phone tied to them, I am desperate to get access to this again. Is there anything else that I have failed to try?
Many Thanks.
EDIT: I would also like to make note that I have taken very good care of my device and that there is no outward physical damage to the device. With this being said, is it possible that the drop could have rendered an issue with the internal components? Perhaps my device was still on and the screen just went out on me? Though would this also render the LED indicator inoperable as well? Perhaps the battery was jostled loose? Though in such as tightly packed unit, would this even be possible?

Surface 2 (RT) won't turn on. Can it be saved?

I have a Surface 2 tablet that stopped booting about 6 months ago. The charging light on the plug will come on when attached. It is supposed to be running Windows RT 8.1 with latest patches. I tried long press power, Long press power with Vol+, Long press power with Vol-, etc. Plug in with and without type cover. Power on with micro-HDMI to monitor. There does not appear to be any sign of life.
I checked the power supply and the voltage reading seems good.
I looked at several video and the Surface 2 is pretty difficult to disassemble. I heard that there is a recovery USB available but I am not sure it is worth me spending time on it. Can someone tell me if recover through USB will at least show a logo or something on screen before it read from the USB? Is there any use for the seemingly dead tablet? The Surface 2 has a great screen. I hope I could use it as a picture frame or eReader of some sort.
As a last resort you might try and hold the power button down for 24 hours (rubber band and ice cream stick works).
Then release the power button from the rubber band and then short press the power button.
Mine is pretty much dead but that method at least gets the surface logo appearing. (I get a little buzz from the Surface when i press the power button). Logo stays for 15 or so seconds. Then the screen goes black with no other signs of life. I only get once chance to do this before I have to wait another 24 hours. Pressing the button again does nothing. I then wait another 24 hours in the vain hope that it springs back to life.
Also tried using recovery stick to see if it boots. It doesn't.
Hope you have a better result.
