This thread should be used to provide feedback and troubleshooting for the Sixaxis Controller and Compatibility Checker apps.
If you have a device that you would like to see supported, and you're happy to step few a bit of debugging to help me determine the issue then please let me know, and preferably provide a screenshot of any error messages.
I'm doing my best to add support for new devices (especially HTC and Samsung), but it seems that it might not always be possible to add compatibility. In this case, the only option for running the app on said device is with an AOSP based rom such as CyanogenMod.
Also, throughout the thread I will occasionally be posting beta versions of the app that include new experimental features. I would be most appreciative of any feedback from those willing to test these new features.
For those looking for help with touch profiles, mythek88 has put together a master list here with a growing list of games. Hopefully at some stage I will add the ability to share profiles directly through the app.
Regards,
Earl
Both Nexus phones. I'd volunteer for testing, but I don't own a sixaxis.
Out of curiosity, why does this need root access whereas Wii doesn't? Is there a difference between the way the controllers pair or something?

Yes unfortunately, although the Sixaxis basically communicates via the HID protocol, there are a couple of minor differences that would require a kernel patch to make the controller start talking over HID. The only solution I have found for this so far is to bypass HID and communicate directly over L2CAP (both of which require root access).
I'd love to volunteer for testing! I have access to several androids and 8 dualshock and sixaxis controllers
If you wish to test on an Galaxy S II then I am available to help out if required. I too have both DualShock and SixAxis controllers.
I can join to you guys too! I have Desire HD with sense or without it and dualshock3/sixaxis controller.
I have three phones that I'm willing to beta test.
I have dualshock 3 controllers.
LG Optimus S
HTC Hero (rooted w/o Sense)
HTC Evo 3D (soon to be rooted)
I definitely think you should release a free version that lets people test basic compatibility. 15 minute return window doesn't seem like enough to test an app like this.
Very excited to see this app!
Ok, what I'll do initially is release a standalone compatibility test app on here in the next couple of days that basically allows me to get some initial feedback and if required have anyone who is willing with an incompatible phone to run a few tests that might enable me to get them working.
Again, this application will only work on rooted devices, sorry!
Stay tuned.
I'd suggest you to put an free version for like 2 weeks for the time its a beta stage then when everything is finalised make it 1$ which i think is reasonably fair ! And i own an sony ericsson xperia x10 it has to work ! Since sony > sony ericsson is the same company i think ? Lol

Here is the (very basic) windows utility I created today for pairing the controllers to a specific MAC address. Once installed, you should be able to plug a controller in to your PC via Mini-USB and the 'Current Master' should change from 'Searching...' to the last MAC address the controller was paired with (probably your PS3). You can then change the master by entering a new MAC address in the format of xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx. This address will ultimately be the bluetooth address of the phone you wish to use the controller with. The Android app will give you the correct address when run on your phone.
Make sense?
If anyone wants to try it out and let me know if it works on your PC's, that would be lovely. Just enter any old MAC address 00:00:00:00:00:00 will do.
Linux users (and apple mac?) should be able to use the utility called 'sixpair' that is floating around the net.
Just an update that I'm hoping to get a bit of feedback on...
This app allows you to test whether your device will be compatible with the app. Once I have enough feedback about which devices / OS versions it will run on (and potentially improve compatibility with some assistance from testers on the forum), then I will make a release on the market that enables IME.
If you would like to help out, you will need to download the attached apk, as well as the SixaxisPairTool in my previous post. You will then need to extract and install the apk on your phone using adb or something like 'app installer' from the market. Run the app and follow the instructions (you will need to use SixaxisPairTool to pair the controller with the phone (using the bluetooth address displayed at the bottom of the app after tapping 'start').
Please could anyone who tries the app report back here any devices and OS's they have tried, and the success they have. Feel free to ask for help if anything is unclear.
Cheers,
Earl
I ran Sixaxis Compatability Checker on my Asus Transformer running Prime 1.6 (Android 3.1). When I clicked "Start" the program said "Connection Initiated..." and then "Connection Failed." At this point I have not paired my controller because the Checker program does not give me the MAC address. When I click "Stop" my Transformer locks up and nothing works, and while I can turn it off with the power button it does not turn back on until I hard reset it.
oKay i run the Server on Android.. they show me the MAC.. ..
i type the mac address in the Windows App .. the show me the same address in the Server and Controller .. but if i press start at the controller hey only blinking.. -.-
Connection Initiated...
Connection Established..

@presslab - Can you try running the command 'hciconfig' on the phone in a terminal emulator as root user and tell me the result.
@Witalka 15 - When you paired the controller using 'SixaxisPairTool', did the 'Current Master' show the same address as the one you typed in after clicking 'Update', or was it still showing 'Searching...'?
I have a Droid X running Liberty Gingerbread ROM 0.9. First off I'd just like to say that I constantly have problems with it, including with Bluetooth, so this may not apply to all Droid X users, but I do receive the "Connection Failed" message, and was just wondering what I can do about it since I've been dying to use my Dualshock with my phone for the longest time. Thanks
Anyone getting a 'Connection Failed' message can help me out by trying the following commands in a terminal window and reporting the results:
su
echo 1 > /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/state
start hciattach
hciconfig -a hci0 up
hciconfig -a hci0 pscan
hciconfig
If you get a 'not found' error when calling hciconfig, you could try copying the executable (from say here) to your /system/xbin folder and making it executable with 'chmod 744 /system/xbin/hciconfig'. Then try running the above commands again.

Is there any point to install and play with cyanogenmod 9 if I'm noob?
I have HTC DESIRE S
I have rooted flashed so far by cgm 7.2 and I don't have problem really.
I know how to use google.
That's why I don't post questions about my device and set up, they are answers sooner, than my question arise. Google and forums are working well for me.
Is there any good to use semifunctional device for benefitial purposes? For example cgm9 for saga, the last nightly build, wifi is not working. If I'm noob?
How to report? Does it help really? It's not about complaining... I'm happy with stable releases and google. I'm not looking for learning coding. I "use" and if bug I do google search... Seems like cgm9 where functionality changes from build to build, there is no point to complain... of course... So does help to say if something doesn't work and where to do it? is there place to do that?
Do I have to make 9 other questions like this to tell that cyanogenmod 9 last nightly build for desire s has nonfunctional wifi? To be able to report it in developers threads? Is that helpful information? Can be noob helpful?
EDIT: wifi is not malfunctional, the etntire trouble is ICS android not being supported for connecting to ad-hoc acces points(hotspots). Infrastructure mode apparently available for set up under windows 7 (not xp) should let you use your computer as hotspot for ICS androids

I don't have this device, but if it doesn't work, CM knows about it. Are you sure it doesn't require a different kernel for wifi to work? Did you read the entire thread? I know sometimes in forums it says not to ask about certain things... Nightlies aren't a finished product. They are tests builds. Some better than others... I myself LOVE CM9 Nightlies!! If it's not what you want, just flash another rom.

For those of you who may have tried to connect your recently updated ICS Transformer Prime to your cell phone using the wifi tether app, you may have noticed that your tablet would not pick of the signal from your phone. We are running an ATT Samsung Galaxy SII here and had wifi tether 3.1 beta 6 installed from a few months back. Before upgrading to ICS on our Prime, we had successfully tethered Honeycomb 3.2.1 to the phone without a problem at all. After the upgrade to ICS we wanted to test some of the wireless connectivity issues and decided to tether to our phone once again to get Speedtest results and noticed that we couldn’t see the phone’s hotspot.
In launching the trusty wifi analyzer app, we noticed that the tablet was “seeing” the hotspot in the wifi analyzer app, however, there was a little red designation at the end of the hotspot information denoting “ad hoc” and we were not able to connect or even given the option to connect to the hotspot. In doing some reading on this and finding that in other forums there were many other users saying that after upgrading to ICS they were no longer able to connect to their hotspot, we assumed this was definitely something with ICS. Officially, Google does not support ad hoc networks in ICS apparently.
However, the upside to all of this is that if you upgrade your wifi tether app to the latest and greatest, which in our case was 3.1 beta 11, we were able to select the option in the wifi profile to be the infrastructure mode as opposed to ad hoc mode for our Samsung Galaxy SII. After performing the update, and changing the profile to infrastructure, we were once again able to connect our ICS Prime to the wifi tether app.
It is yet to be seen if this is functionality Google is simply not support from this point forward or if this is just an early ICS quirk that will be resolved with a later update.
maby this is the issue
Finnaly this can be solved by having windows vista in infrastructure mode... Windows xp haven't been build to provide such stacks.
Hi everyone,
just wanted to make a quick post, mainly to share my excitement.
after wondering over to the android-x86 project page and having a bit of a read i thought i would give it a go on my little dell laptop. for those not familiar with the project they have developed techniques and files for installing android os on x86 laptop and computers.
anyway, it works perfectly. well 99% perfectly. mouse pad scroll doesn't work yet, for me, its only been a day, i may be able to work it out yet. maybe.
tested and working on this laptop are:
wifi
keyboard
mouse pad (excluding scrolling)
battery icon shows battery drain and charging icon
(its a basic laptop, that's almost the entire list of features haha)
not working so far:
mouse pad scrolling
Not tested:
bluetooth
external data storage (usb hdd/sd card etc)
usb accessories (keyboard/mouse/cd drive etc)
display output (this laptop has vga output)
physical network connection via cable
phone line connection (does anyone use these anymore???)
firewire
headphone and mic ports
Apps used so far:
Dolphin HD
Stock browser
google maps
gmail
zeam launcher
panda laucher
The play store does not work for downloading apps. you can log in and view installed and previously downloaded apps, manage your account etc but you will get an error with downloading. ( for those concerned the errors encountered include 921 and 101 so far)
all widgets tried so far are working too and live wallpapers...not sure why they wouldnt work...but they do anyway.
I had always joked about my little laptop having the same specs as a mobile phone, so I think its pretty funny it now has a mobile OS running.
I have it currently configured to dual boot alongside windows 7 and both are getting along nicely on the same laptop.
anyone else on the forums here played with this? I did search around but didn't find much relating to android on laptops and my dell d430 wasn't listed in the device section haha.
if anyone can suggest a more appropriate place for this post i would be happy to repost somewhere else.
please also feel free to post questions including but not limited to the standard "why would you want to do this!?" and "what's the point?"
conclusion:
i may just use this as a daily os....all i ever used this laptop for was backpack sized internet access and media entertainment and it does that much easier on android now.
Another thing I loved was that when installing windows (a one million hour affair typically) you then had to install acres of drivers (the technical measurement of the amount of drivers required to get everything working on windows), HOWEVER on android, everything worked out of the box so to speak. wifi and all.
if this catches on and gains a decent level of tech support for those less capable this could be a great opportunity to keep everyone's ageing tech in the game.
Niceeeeeee, i give it a try
I'm using a Acer laptop with this version and I don't have any problem with the Play Store...

Which iso file did you used for the pc (I mean Asus, Lenovo, Hp).
Can you also give me some hints on how to create the boot disc and how to get in the boot mode and what to do next.
first thing i thought was man, you're gonna need to edit a word doc or something and be screwed. but i see your dual booting so i guess it makes sense. whats the boot up time like?

For me boot time is unDer 20 seconds into windoes and under 15 into android, but I've got a SSD hd and made a few tweaks to the bios.
As far as usability goes, androids definitely a touch orientated OS so it's a bit cumbersome with the touchpad ... I did however spot a touch panel for the screen for cheap on eBay....

With some words:
So can anybody tell me either a) why is BT HID so 'rubbish' on Android, ie why is it so rare that anybody seems to have got it to work e.g "Look. It's a massive problem, nobody really knows how to do it. Count yourself lucky that you've got found a GB build where it does work at all. Put the problem down and walk away"; or b) what a solution might be?
I've tried rooting round in builds, until I'm blue in the face but unless the *.so file either has a BT and or an HID in the file name, then I'm in the dark.
qazzi76 ; GregórioAxiaMagno and sergiocabraljr have found various solutions for GB builds I think and I know Samsung seems to have solved the problem. (I've seen videos of the Galaxy Nexus and it worked with no problems on an SII a friend of mine has).
Could it simply be a case of isolating and extracting the magic HID file and putting it into any/all custom roms, or it's a case (for some just to make it harder reason) that the BT files have to be recompiled for each and every build; as GregórioAxiaMagno has kindly pointed out with some of his work.
The holy grail I suppose is a set of files that can be uploaded to any build by apt, that resolve the lack of BT keyboard with every/any build.

HID Bluetooth Device FIX for 2.3.5 and 2.3.6!!

Getting home, I fired up the phone and keyboard, entered the 6 digit code to pair them and saw the device connecting and disconnecting in an infinite loop. I was crushed and disappointed.
What went wrong? As stated above this is merely a workaround. But the problem lies somewhere between the kernel and broadcom chipset. This fix will reset your bluetooth pairings. It has been tested on my Samsung Galaxy SII I727 but it should work with any other device.

Only tested ( ICS 403 ). This ( GPS Control ) really impressed/improved my GPS lockon/speed and reception signal specially inside my house/building.
Used GPS Test to verify this.
WARNING: Did freeze SgS2 after trying to rerun Apk after enabled setting. Seemed to work fine after fix permissions via Extweaks.
Valid point about GPS being De-tuned? by default?

From your Android device internal/external memory storage.
This allows you to boot/start PC & Laptops from your phone/device.
Excellent for data recovery & more.
Also can be used to prepare USB sticks & external hard drives.
Have been testing/using & as yet cannot fault.
A quoted email from Dev @FrozenCow.
Yes, that's good to hear. Most phones do not have a cdrom option, this is a kernel feature I (among others) have added to some of the CyanogenMod kernels, including the one of the Galaxy S2. I guess it's in the stable versions now too!
The None entry should be gone in DriveDroid 0.8.5, but it was to set the 'hosted image' to none, so you can make sure none of the images are being accessable from the PC. In DriveDroid 0.8.x it isn't a explicit option, but it will 'unhost' an image when clicking the notification of DriveDroid: it'll set the hosted image to none.
"Also noticed with my SgS2 latest configuration DriveDroid Hbcd.iso entry to S3C1 CD icon setting. Has to be reset every time DriveDroid is used ie not persistent?"
I'm not sure exactly what you mean. You select *how* you want to host the file each time you select an image. Storing this mode for each image is something I am considering, but for the moment you'll have to do it each time.
I have noticed Dorimanx kernels has the mount as cdrom built in for SgS2 GT i9100.

Eliassen&Shollen9, I owe u both a apology as I went back & tested hdmi out with RR312 problematic but works! Credit to Westcrip.
Worked with Teac LCDV2255HD tv using the diagnostic usb port as power supply.
Used a new idea Hdmi +usb cable built in 2 meter bought from ebay approx $8.47 au delivered.
This cable seemed to work better than previous Hdmi adapter that had/needed extra usb/power plugged into side of adapter.
Hope this info helps, sorry no ebay link to working hdmi adapter but clue is bright red 2meter cables.

Hi all, just having a complete stab in the dark about above Wrong pin problem.
Try putting a * in User/Password/Server setting in APN settings.
See here resurrectionremix.com/index.php?topic=850.msg4467#msg4467
I am in Top end of Australia with Virgin/Optus network. Never was asked for a pin using possibly 15-20 different Android roms.
In varied dualboot scenario's.
So is the problem from Network provider?
Also can you Please fill out your Forum signatures ie: phone/rom/kernel/dualboot specs/versions. XDA/OP/DEVELOPERS&MODDERS all do this for a good reason = a little info says a lot. This really helps us/forum to be able answer you questions.

PhilZ has been releasing some clever reworks of CWM6+ Recovery.
Also uses Aroma file explorer/manager ( in temporary use mode ) & mount via usb in/external memory to copy/connect to Pc while in recovery mode.
Note: VERY easy way to flash custom kernel/root to stock phone via stock/factory recovery mode!
Also recover from no boot/bad flash problems.

Tested OK & Aroma.zip file explorer works well via Siyah dual boot custom CWM6+ Recovery.
Note: Stock&rooted kernel included my zip is for Android 404 ICS XWLPW firmware. Make sure you read instructions and use correct/close kernel for your Android OS/firmware.
Forum Signatures XDA post 7
Hi, just a friendly request/suggestion.
Please fill out your Forum signatures ie: phone/rom/kernel/dualboot specs/versions. XDA/OP/DEVELOPERS&MODDERS all do this for a good reason = a little info says a lot. This really helps us/forum to be able answer you questions.
Some off the reasons why.
1: Some kernels don't play very well with dualbooting/Rom combinations etc.
2: Just a little bit more info in Posts/questions does really help to get a good answer.
3: This Forum does like to help,so help us also&make time to fill out a Signature.Have fun.
4: Android & kernels are changing so fast, these finer details can save a lot of mistakes/frustration.
Chrs bmad.
ps Admit I over do my Signature but sometimes it reminds me. Where I'm at. haha.
