16gb and 32gb - General Questions and Answers

What's the difference in performance between the two?
Also, why is it 16 and 32? Does this have to do with the binary number stuff

gb refers to storage size. 16 gigabytes and 32 gigabytes..

That I know. What I meant was is there anything else different besides data storage capacity and also, why isn't there like a 5gb, 15gb, etc.

oh, well
I remember 1990s when we use to play with 16k chips. There is a reason why memory allocation was done in 4/8/16/32... steps block sizes to both memory and disks, the OS usually works with those values. If your OS is designed to allocate, let's say 10k for 8/16 data blocks you'll end up with unusable memory.

Internal space question

I really want to get the charge. But with the internal space being only what 2gb. How many apps can u install before u run into problems. I know u can have a 16 gb card. But all apps u can't move to sd. Even if u do some portion is still left on the internal. Well any feedback will help me make the move thanks.
You would have to be insane to fill that much space. I have 150 user apps installed and have 700 megs free. I store all my apps internally. Also, you can get the charge for free on amazonwireless.com

Out of the 1.15gb available for apps, i have used less than half of it with lots of large games. I keep them in internal memory because it is faster than sdhc 2x.

It comes with a 32gb card...

You can send all your apps to sdcard anyways

Repartition internal memory

I'm not really sure if this is possible or how difficult it would be or if anyone else would care to do it, but is it possible to repartition the 16GB of the phone for it to allocate less memory for apps and more for music, photos, etc? Even if you ran out of app storage, you could just move some apps to SD storage right? Thanks!

64GB Micro SD Card format

Okay random question but I'm getting a 64GB micro SD card and all I need to do is format it and I'll be good right? Like i don't have to worry about any issues? I want a 64GB but I heard about issues people had so it may sway me to a 32GB. Thanks for any response

You don't have to flash it to FAT32 in order to use it, but if you flash a custom kernel or JB, the phone may have trouble recognizing the card. Formatting it as Fat32 removes the issue.

Plus CWM Recovery won't recognize it unless it's Fat32 also. Not sure about TWRP though...
It's always best to reformat sd in fat32. It reduces unneeded headaches.

I left all three of my 64gig cards formatted the way they come.
They work just fine that way and that allows me to store files over 4 gigs which is the limit for FAT32.

That's fine assuming you want to stay on a stock rom. If you plan on flashing AOSP/CM, then you're going to end up with a corrupted card if you leave a 64GB card as exFAT

You would have to re format it as exfat. But then you run into compatibility problems mentioned above.

Ah damn that sucks. I'm actually in AOKP right now. So I can basically throw the idea of having HD movies on my 64GB right out the window right? I assume an HD movie is more than the 4GB file limit

ALL of my BlueRay rips are over 4 gigs.
I could rip them to a smaller size if my only use for them was to play in the phone, but I use them for other uses & I can't see the point in having 64 gigs of space but blocking the ability to store large files.

Damn its a tough choice. Get a 64GB card but format it to work with both AOSP and TW but losing the ability to have HD movies over 4GB. And I know I'll burn thru a 32GB card real quick

Lol this would be my first time owning a 64GB card so I'm hoping I won't burn thru it quick

How do the 64 GB cards usually come formatted already?

Internal memory

Can anyone tell me why my internal memory doesn't tell me exactly how much memory I have? I keep deleting more apps but the numbers not changing..

mate 9 internal memory 11GB for firmware

Guys have you noticed internal storage on the phone has 11GB occupied by the firmware . any way we can clean this ? i think 11GB just for firmwre is a bit overkill
For reference the Oneplus 3t has just about the same amount reserved for the system. Whether or not it's overkill is irrelevant. There's no way to easily adjust this. Don't forget that you have expandable storage so it's not a big deal.

I have to agree. 11Gb still leaves a huge amount of storage available especially if you store all your media on a removable SD card.
I was using a Galaxy S7 Edge with 32Gb internal memory. With Gear VR apps and games, it was a challenge to keep free space above 2Gb! But I managed just fine.
