[Q] (Likely) Bricked Galaxy S Wifi 5 - General Questions and Answers

I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S Wifi 5.0 (YP-G70) for quite a good price. Since I already have a tablet, I decided to be a bit daring. After playing with the device for awhile, I tried to install Gingerbread using instructions I found for the I9000, since I had read about other processes designed for the I9000 working on the YP-G70.
The tablet started into download mode, I started Odin, and connected the device. Everything proceeds fine until the first box in Odin suddenly turns red and warns me of a fail. At this point, I turn the tablet off. Now, it won't turn on normally or into download or recovery mode, and it is not being picked up by my computer.
Is there anything to be done, or have I created a well-priced--if still somewhat expensive--paper weight?

Sounds like it's bricked. I'm in the same situation and after about a month of research and asking around, no luck. Here's my post.

Samsung Galaxy S won't turn on - swear i've done my research

Hello All,
I promise I've done 2 days of research before and while doing this.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S on ATT using ATT network. I tried to put Cognition on it 2.3b7 and something was wrong with the battery life, so I decided to start over and flash it again. In the meantime DG released 2.3b8.
I rooted it Mac (i'm on a mac), got superuser permission, did the whole clockwork thing. Then I decided to flash it using Odin3 1 click downloader back to ATT software. Well then I got phone...!...computer error. I couldn't do the 3 button combo to get it download mode. I made the 301k Jig, that worked and got me in to download mode. I used Odin3 again, got it back to ATT software but I think it was still custom.
The whole ODIN process was actually way more indepth because it wouldn't work, or the USB software wasn't installed correctly, my phone kept being a *****. But I got it to work eventually.
My phone would also say Samsung I9000 (it's a i897, idk if its the same) instead of just the ATT start up. I went through the rooting process a few times on the Mac and no super user app would show up. So I did it on a PC and it worked. Then I went through the standard process of installing Cognition. I backed it up using clockwork, then clicked install rom and selected the .zip file in the SD card.
It started working. Then after about 30 minutes, it just wouldn't turn on anymore. I've taken out the battery, it's fully charged and all that. It still just won't turn on. It's all black...
What happen, has it happen to anyone and how do I fix it?
It's seriously a paper wieght right now.

Exact same thing happened to me - except I have a genuine i9000.
ROM Flasher - selected ROM - booted into clockworkmod, which started flashing the ROM, it proceeded for about 10 minutes, displayed lots of activity on the screen, then the screen went black... and has remained black ever since.
The phone won't turn on, won't go into download mode, won't go into reset mode. I have a jog on order, but I don't think that will do much. I thought that maybe the battery had drained (it didn't - tried it in a different phone).
The phone is just dead, and an equal paperweight.
Are there any options left, or do I just need to send it back to Samsung?

[Q] {HELP} I thought it was a good deal...really!

A little background before I describe what brought me here to the forum for assistance. I had an SGS II (Telus - T959D) that I tried to upgrade...1st 3 Flashes went beautifully until I noticed that there was an ICS upgrade available...so I jumped on it...problem was the upgrade (while Odin said everything was right with the world) caused the phone to go into a permanent boot cycle (never going past the ICS flash screen). I took the phone into the local phone shop and they tried everything they could think of to reset or at least get it back into download mode...nada...zero zilch.
I then had a $600 paper weight. Luckily I still had my Motorola Milestone but I longed for my SGS back.
Yesterday I found an i9000 for sale. Already set up with ICS, running smooth and supposedly in mint condition...all this for $150. I got to the guys house who was just finishing wiping his personal data for me and reinstalling the Custom ROM ([ROM][MIUIv4][ICS][4.0.3][BETA8.1]drZMIUIv4- MULTI LANGUAGE[08/02/2012]).
I look at the phone...great condition...phone is cycling through the install and shows all the right partitions on the screen so I pay my money and walk out.
The phone never actually boots to an active screen and by the time I get the darn thing home it has gone completely dead.
Power button - NOTHING
3 button Download - NOTHING
3 button Recovery - NOTHING
battery pull 3 button Download - NOTHING
left charging all night - NOTHING
I tried to message the guy I bought if from and surprise, the 2 minutes it took him to respond to my offer to purchase has now gone 14 hours when the phone does not work.
I saw a post about a Brick Recovery option that involves ripping open the phone and soldering some jumpers...which I am fine to do...if there is some assurances that that will get the darn thing to at least boot up again.
Anyone who can help with this...my wife is none too happy right now...and in all honesty...neither am I. So I turn to the Android fellowship...HELP
Have you tried a two-dollar jig off eBay? Might be worth a shot before you go ripping her clothes off
Alternatively, you need to see AdamOutler's work
EDIT: Oh and for the price, if it's in good condition you got a good deal
But your phone was on and goes on?
If the phone turns on, its not bricked and there should a way to fix it.
Otherwise go to service point and tell them you don't know what happend, it doesn't work anymore...they should send it in and you get a worked one back.
Good luck.

Correct, but if you try the three-button combo and can't get into download mode, I think you need a jig
Jig no go
I had a jig from my last experience of bricked phone joy. Nothing.
I am thinking that the unbrickable mod is worth a shot...having a tough time finding magnet wire...not to keen on spending $20 on 3 spools when I need less than 1cm of wire.

Someone in the i9000 forums may have some if you ask in the QnA section?

bricked sgs2
Hi,
I am with galaxy s2 I9100 on Lite'ning rom 3.6 and CF root kernel.
I flashed it with mobile odin pro.
Earlier I switched and tried to remove the yellow triangle by the method wit 1tar and 2tar and jig described by anonymous572 ("How to remove yellow triangle on any firmware with JIG") somewhere else in the xda. I did not see that this thread was about the Galaxy note and it said 'works on all ICS'...and missed the warning not to use it for sgs2. It worked indeed for the sgs2 to remove the yellow triangle.
But since then I can't enter clockworkmode, downloadmode and recovery mode anymore. Not via the buttons and not with the options in CWM manager and LRT toolbox and Odin Mobile Pro. I mean that I did not get any startup screen until after some minutes the lock screen.
Another reason could be that I restored backup via Titanium and also restored the system apps and data - which I know now I should not have done with a different new rom....
Last try was to start sgs2 with usb connected to PC and Odin activated. This worked and I could flash
according to the method as described in:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458highlight=problems+with+recovery+modeed
I ticked re-partition and flashed the whole package including the pit file and this solved my problem.
(flashing without flashing the pit did not work).
After that I switched back to Lite'ning rom 3.6 and it's OK !

[Q] samsung exhibit frozen. for real.

after 2-3 hours of googling, trying odin, vol. up and power, usb, kies, seems like a million other things, i cannot get my exhibit 4g passed the "exhibit 4g by t-mobile" screen. i've let it sit, hoping it would boot, removed the batter and let it sit, tried booting it into recovery. i've downloaded every program recommended by every android site and now i'm at my wits end.
before i go any further, i did download rom manager and tried to cwm for galaxy s since that what rom manager detected my phone as. stupid, i know, but i'm pretty sure i told it to backup just in case i ran into a situation like this.
when i plug the phone into my laptop via usb, it's stuck on the little circle "thinking" image. my laptop dings like it knows something is plugged in but then it says "usb device not recognized" but i've downloaded and installed the driver from samsungs website.
i think this thing is bricked but i've read several articles saying a bricked phone wont turn on at all. my phone is rooted but other than that it's all stock.
any suggestions?

Hard Brick - How did it happen?

I've been messing with phones, game consoles, etc for years so i'm not new to the modding world and have never ran into an issue...I've done android phones and tablets before without issue but looks like i hard bricked the phone.
Last night i was trying to root my USA samsung galaxy s3 i535 from verizon ... it was running 4.1.1 following this tutorial
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
I was in odin and flashed this file to it VRALEC Bootchain... the screen went black on the phone and it just froze up odin and the phone never came back.
The only thing i can think of (if this was the correct file) was that it was some kind of physical issue between the laptop and phone via the usb cable? I was using win 8 but had the odin app running in xp sp3 compatability mode as an admin?
From what i've read i'm pretty much screwed except maybe paying for a jtag service... might just wait fo the S4 though.
Thanks...i did leave it plugged in over night, but it was the same usb cable i'll let it sit overnight with a different usb cable when i get home.
Like cvm said, if you get download mode then you're okay. But even if you can't seems how you said you have a background in modifying things, you can make or order what is called a USB jig to force the phone into download mode. Just google it and you'll find the post. I use the same procedure for rooting my phone and never had a problem. The only thing that comes to mind is are you sure you loaded the file into the PDA section of Odin? Because if you used any other sections that is what caused the problem.
Sent from a Shaftamle Galaxy S3
I've left it charging for about 12 hours and still nothing, won't respond at all no lights, donwload mode, nothing...
I knew to choose the pda option and am 99% sure i did, but sometimes in my arogance I move a little to fast for my own good so anything is possible...
I thought the only way to recover a galaxy phone that won't respond at all is with the jtag and that the usb jigs were for soft brick recovery or if they can't get into download mode?
ive never used one but like you said, it is to push the phone into download mode. if you can get there then your good to go.

[Q] Not sure where to post this, Help with off brand tablet

Hello all!
I'm having a few problems with my android tablet. 1st, a few months ago the tablet would not turn on after leaving it dead for about a week. I tried to charge it but it wouldn't work, so I left it alone for a few months. Today I decided to try to turn on my tablet and it came back to life! BUT when I turned it on, the tablet showed a white screen with lines going through it after the boot up process ended. I restarted the tablet and it went away. Unfortunately it keeps on doing weird things with the screen but only seems to do that when I'm browsing through the play store/downloading apps. I've restored my tablet as new and it's still giving me these problems. Also, now it won't recognize on my PC. It was recognizing a few minutes ago but now the tablet turns white when I plug it up to the computer. I've tried to look on google for help but I can't find any, also I've posted this on AndroidCentral but they've been no help to me at all... If anyone could at least lead me to the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks. BTW tablet is : Ployer MOMO9-3 running 4.0.4 I think. If it needs to be updated, can you please advise on that too.
Also want to note that it'll work for about 45min before it freezes, screen turns different color or gets static like and I'll have to reboot.
