Your screwed bud. You shouldnt have updated to new software knowing you woulda lost root.
Why not just downgrade to 2.2.1 via that guide?
My friend was stuck with 2.3.4 after a replacement MT4G and all I did was link him to that thread.
He didn't even know what ADB was until he read that thread, followed the video, then followed the guide and was back to 2.2.1 then rooted and eventually flashed a new ROM in all like 30 minutes.
If he can do it, so can you. I got faith! Haha, good luck either way.

I think I was able to translate from that gibberish in the OP that he/she has no computer access. Don't you have any friends with computers, or someone you could pay for an hour on their machine?

Sounds like you have a bad driver on your computer. Uninstall the MT4G drivers and reinstall them, they're on HTC.com. That should take care of your BSOD.
Also, I don't really know if temp root is possible for that version. If it is, you could always temp root and download something like adb wireless and connect that way from your computer.

So..
I have an EVO all decked out, rooted, Romed and so on..
Cousin just got the captivate and I want to help him root it and put the Phoenix rom 4.03
I'm downloading the rom now and would like someone to point me to the right spot to see how to properly root this phone.. Can I use the 1 click root (says its for 2.1)
Thanks guys!
There is a thread in the development forum the shows how and even has video.

You don't even need to root unless you want to back up Apps with titanium backup or such. Just go to the phoenix thread, grab the clockwork update zip and rom from the op/faq. Put them on the internal as card, Use three buttons to boot into recovery, reinstall packages twice, and you will be in familar territory from there.
Edit......... don't spend too much time looking at his screen, you will get jealous, especially with scrolling and dark backgrounds

I will admit I'm jealous of the screen.. But he can't figure out why when he takes a picture of me in this dim light room, IM BLACK!! oh yea, NO FLASH.. LOL
Also, something with his quadrant results.. It was a little on the low side
Thanks though.. I'm already rooted, I can still install the phoenix right?
THANKS
Not to confuse with the different opinions but you would want to backup certain things on your phone before flash. Like your android id. I do not think you need root in order to do so

THANKS GUYS!!
Hey everyone... I'm sorta new to rooting. I have a samung epic 4g for sprint. Right now I'm running 2.2 froyo eb13 I just upgraded it. I don't have a computer now cuz it needs to get fixed but I do use my friends mac and occasionally his slow windows xp computer. I know there are apps for rooting your fone without using a pc. Apps such as z4 root ad visionary+ [r14] and universal androot... but I'm having issues with those too.
Z4root- it won't get past a certain screen then it randomly vibrates and slows down my phone drastically. My friend has 2.1 for his vibrant... we both have galaxy s phones. Z4root worked for him within seconds. It won't work for me. Maybe if I downgrade to 2.1 first? Then up to froyo?
VISIONary- it stays on tthe loading screen I can't even temp root it. I tried rebooting the phone nothing works... it slows it down and randomly vibrates like z4root.
Universal androot this is a joke. No matter what I do... "sorry I cannot root your phone "
My questions are:
1. Is there an easier way to root it, maybe another app I don know about? Or if I can download the root and save it like an update.zip?
2. If not... how can I down grade the rom to 2.1? Can I just download the apk and rename it update.zip and go from there when I put it int recovery mode?
3. If I have no luck with rooting it from my phone how can I root it from a mac without using wndows parallel?
I'm so frustrated.... please help me someone... I've been playing this this stupid fone for days. I seem to have no luckkk
I am having the exact same issue. I have had Z4 root on my Samsung Epic 4G (sprint) for about 5 months, and it worked wonderfully. Never had any problems. Just yesterday, the long anticipated Froyo (android 2.2) upgrade was pushed out to my phone. Now, the Z4 root will no longer work. In fact, it does exactly what diamondprincessxoo explains that her phone does in the post above. Any suggestions???
What I am trying to do now is download odin and flash my phone to 2.1 to re download eclair. I don't know if once I download it to 2.1 if when I upgrade it back to 2.2 if z4root will still kep my phone rooted. Hopefully it will. I will do more indepth research later. If I am successfuli wat o eventually upgrade it to 2.3 gingerbread.. but my pc is acting up so idk its a challenge fixing that first
Same problem omg someone help us
hey guys i need help.
to update with lg updater it has to be with windows pc?
i didnt have the ota cause i've been rooted but i really need to update my baseband i am on mac. i used to have cracked windows but ever since i update to lion ox i lost it.
oh and is there a driver for this phone and a way to flash CWM with a mac?
oh another thing i saw on a threat long ago about a dialer code for the ota but cant find it
Haven't found anything in the way of mac drivers, sorry.
Your best bet is to borrow a friend's xp pc, or visit their house or something.
It shouldn't take you more than half hour to install the update and then flash CWM anyway so it doesn't even have to be a long visit.
Are you stock right now? Haven't been able to install CWM etc...?

No I'm not stuck. Its just I never updated my phone with the official gb
And need to update with it so I can update the baseband.
That's all.
Yeah man I definitely recommend the updated baseband my GPS is awesome ever since I updated.
Definitely get yourself to a WinXP machine though cuz the updater tool seems to be picky with that.
Plus you don't even need to unroot or revert to stock recovery either. Matter fact I was running Eagle's Blood Froyo with CWM when I updated mine and it worked without a hitch took about 20 mins.

Cool. Do you have to flash recovery again after the update?
question
now gingerbread 2.3.3 is an operating system correct?
or is it also considered a rom?
and are basebands different for each rom?
and what exactly is sdk?
i apologize if these questions are placed in wrong section but i been reading the thread and am very new and would like to know alot more.
also i just got new g2x today and have installed the clorkwork recovery now there
is a said method to install rom with no sd card as new phones dont have one.
Amon_RA recover with adb
is it recomended and as currently with clockwork installed am i techincally rooted??
Hi,
I dont know if am being really stupid or not but this is my first android device and first time rooting.( i have searched for hours now trying to find an answer)
So i am trying to root my Lg G2x running GB 2.3.3 using this link :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255214
so as of now i am on Step 2...what i dont get is when i click the link on step 2 it says to download ALL of these NVIDIA drivers and everything. All i did was downlooad the One Click CWM
Another thing this link does is send me to ANOTHER link saying that you have to ROOT first?
So from my previous knowledge i thought you could only "flash" the CWM if you were already root ( or maybe thats only for the ROMs)
alright then if thats the case...the directions of the original link just says to download and unzip...but do i put that root folder onto my phone(i read this from another link that someone else posted about)..The reason i am asking this question is because when i tried to go to Step 3 it said to Hold Volume and Power to boot CWM but nothing happened obivously bc 1. the directions say to plug the phone into computer at like step5 and 2. the files are on the computer
So in conclusion i guess i am just trying to make sure that i dont brick my phone by asking these lame questions
1. do i have to take those unzipped files and put them onto my Phone( more specifally, my sd card or phone?)
2. What about for the CWM download.. do i just download the One Click thing and ignore the other directions??
You have to do the one click thing first to install Clockwordmod with NVFlash.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
Then you boot into Clockwordmod Recovery and run my booting zip.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255214
In that thread just download the root zip and put it on your sd card or in the internal memory of your phone. Flash the CWM recovery and then boot into Clockworkmod Recovery by holding down volume down and power until fancy LG logo shows (about ten to fifteen seconds). Find the menu option to flash a zip from sd card or internal memory (wherever you put my rooting zip). Select it, flash it and reboot when finished.
Presto. Done. You are now rooted.
THANK YOU!!!
I GOT IT YAY i AM ROOTEd
i was just overreading and kept reading every word on the posts lol when all i had to do was follow the APX driver installation, FLASH the cWM , and then BOOT IT!!!

Flashing CWM and rebooting does not root your phone. You have to flash the root zip also, or flash a rooted rom.
Ok i am completly lost trying to root my g2x. I'v tried downloading the flasher yet nothing. I just need a step by step on doing this. Thanks!!

The original thread for the one-click flasher in the development section is one of the best step by step posts ever made on XDA. It even has a link for a video tutorial. If you cannot follow that then I suggest you stop trying to root your phone. There is no reason for anyone to make another step by step guide. To find the thread try the search button. There are also links to it in numerous other threads.
Are their roms on here that are bug free and stable for daily drivers?
Im coming over here from a HD2 which is not a native android phone. And I didnt mind the bugs in android.
But now I have a g2x and it is bug free though I really wish it had 2.3.5 but oh well this phone is still bad ass.
So what im wondering if I should just root to keep it stock and do lil mods or flash the whole cwm Process so I have a back up. If I ever need it.
Thanks in advance.

I've kept mine stock for that reason, but I did root it. After experiencing custom roms on my Nexus One, A71 variant and others, I would have to say the frustrations stuff being perpetually broken, bugs and the monotony of daily flashing (CM7 just never stops) whatever small benefits the custom roms have (i.e., eye candy, additional settings, etc.) is just not worth the frustration and danger of soft-bricking the phone (I have hard bricked one also) to me. My Nexus One (gave one to wife when I got the G2X but then got another one at a steal) has gone through updates to 2.3.4 and 2.3.6 (yesterday). These updates seem to be mostly internal fixes for stuff. The average user (or even advanced) is not going to notice any difference in using the rom. The only exception to that is that in 2.3.4 Google removed the need to log back into your Gmail account(s) after changing sims. They said that was a minor benefit at a greater annoyance and the "feature" most complained about by world travelers. Other than that the Google apps get updated and even 2.2 devices are basically running the same Google apps as 2.3.X. So based on what you said above, I would suggest keeping it stock and simply rooting it. You definitely want to change recovery to Clockworkmod to make backups and the fact that going into stock recovery on this device does a factory reset (how stupid was that LG).

Thanks J you have been very helpful in my transition from hd2 to g2x"im still flashing hd2 I love playing with sense 3.0 and 3.5" But this phone is amazing. Ive rooted it and added cwm but have not flashed any cutom rome I like stability over newest features.
Is 2.3.3 the most recent update for our Phones?
Yes and we're darn lucky we have 2.3.3. No other 2X variant worldwide has received any update love from LG. They are all still on 2.2.x. Lawsuit in U.S. seems to be what forced LG into releasing the G2X GB update.

Hey J
If this is the wrong place to ask please pm me but, would you mind letting me know what tweaks you have done "if any" you have done to your stock rom?
I bought a MyTouch on Amazon for 43 dollars.
Can someone provide a simple guide for me so I can update it to the latest CWM? I've never done any mods with an HTC like this and when I did it was the Hero and I hard bricked it. I had a few G1's, too...
Anyway, can someone PM me or reply to this? I need something quick and easy.
Starting from Rooting and finishishing at CM install.
My current device is an LG Phoenix, so... Big Upgrade!

I would start with this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801106
It will unlock your bootloader, add CWM, and root your (arriving) phone (in that order). If there are any dead links, I should be able to help out (except for the drivers - you can either try ADBSetup or use Linux to unlock the bootloader).
I would skip Juopunutbear unless you are planning to flash every other week . I did it, it's no big deal, but the best I got out of S-OFF was to change the start-up logo (before the bootanimation).
Hope this gives an idea.

So what if I don't have Admin privileges on a computer? Will Fastboot and ADB still work? I don't know about the drivers...
And I had the original myTouch 3G and I installed the Visionary (the one with the yellow triangle with the lightning bolt hitting a guy) APK file. I was able to flash CWM Recovery after Visionary rooted the device. Is it possible to flash ROMS using CWM instead of unlocking the bootloader?

Probably not. I haven't seen a situation where drivers can install without admin priv.

That would be gaining root through an exploit. If I recall correctly, all of those have been sealed in future OTA's. The only way that makes sense (that is, not trying every rooting package out there) is to unlock the bootloader first. It's really not that bad.

The MT4GS I'm getting is running Gingerbread. If I use GingerBreak APK to root the phone and install CWM, can I still back up the stock OS? And for future reference, how would I keep the baseband once I'm ready to flash ROMs? Like the IMEI and stuff like that?
And the guide that you directed me towards is slightly complicated.
Is there an APK that can turn S-Off? if so, how reliable is it?
And for future reference (I like saying that) the ETA for device delivery is Wednesday on the East Coast of the United States.

Getting out of my comfort zone here, but that should be possible. CWM will be able to back up system and boot, effectively the stock OS.
Haven't heard of people losing their IMEI's with this phone, nor of any backup to protect it, so that should be fine.
When I went through it, I found the guide a bit daunting as well, but you get used to it (alternatively there is below, which I never used).
There is no APK to S-Off (too complicated for a user app, and your phone would be upside down half the time thus making the screen unreadable), but there is this that can speed up the process:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2438884
This can root as well. It's no APK, but should get the job done.

*cringes* Windows admin priiivveellleges.....?
And can we just talk about this through PM? the XDA site is destroying my data. The app is better.
s-off has gotten easier. juopunutbear (or however you spell it) is no longer needed. rumrunner s-off is by far easier to use. this is what I used combined with the windroid program to root.
I bought one from a liquidator online. Brand new, out of the box, with the plastic still on the screen and stuff. Unmarked battery, though. Charges a bit too fast. Was labelled as "refurbished" but came in the original manufacturer box with original PC sync cable and chager. I found a way to root the stock ROM without S-OFF, just with CWM. All I had t do was flash a 2.3.6 ZIP that had the SU binary and the .apk file for the Samsung Galaxy Admire. It works on the really stupid Huawei model, too. Which, I installed the Raspberry Pi variation of SliTaz on it, and it works great! But as soon as I came back to my apartment from work I unlocked the bootloader(HTC model), installed CWM, flashed the ZIP fro 1.4 DS, and then did a backup of my old non-functional broken peice of shi...Yeah, and then then flashed the boot image through fastboot, and then restored my backup. My point is, though, my Minecraft PE and my Ravensword 2 installations diappeared after restoring the backup. Any ideas of why this happened?
