[Q] How to mod softkey like Cyanogen - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Now, I know I can program it to do something with a TAP, but how about something like holding it down to do something. Cyanogenmod has the "hold down back to kill process". Anything like that?

Anyone know what's wrong with my screen?

I'm on Lantis V3.0 RC2 now. In general, it's a great ROM.
After installing a few application, it seems that my TF3D suddenly has another soft button on the top right corner.
It's just a black button that hides my battery meter. I don't know which program does that, this is the first time I see it. And every time I press that black button, it bring me back to the first step of TF3D... Anyone has any idea what is it and how to get rid of it?

Binding task manager to a hardware button

Im just wondering if its possible to bind the HTC task manager to a hardware key, then whenever you press it, the drop down menu will appear.
Im running WM6.5.1 and im fine with going to the homescreen to use the task manager, its just that there is a much smaller area to press to open the menu.
Im using a TouchPro2 and never really use the back button.
Is there some way to make the back button open the task manager?
I have AE Button Plus and was thinking perhaps there was some kind of mortscript thing that could be bound to the Back key with AE button plus?
I dont know too much about mortscript so I dont know if thats possible.
Not sure if there's the same thing in 6.5.1, but I'm on a Touch Pro with a 6.5.3 rom, and there's a section in Personal Settings called Buttons that allows for setting exactly what you're after.

Repurpose menu capacitive button when AOSP ICS roms are available?

I am referencing my own post in the Evo 3D forums, but when an ICS rom is made from AOSP, I think it would be cool to give the option, via an apk, or something for users to flash, to repurpose the menu capacitive button to do the same task as the task switcher "button" on the Galaxy Nexus (Prime). Wanted to get people's thoughts on this.

That would be awesome and I would love you forever

When the Shift gets ICS it probably won't have the soft keys like the Galaxy Nexus, so there would really be no need for this. I've flashed the from source build for the Nexus and it doesn't have soft keys.. so you still need the menu key. Not only to get into settings but also for menus inside apps. With the Nexus S if you hold the home key it gives you the new ICS "task switcher" or recent apps screen, so I don't really see the need to remap the hardware buttons.

Ahhhh....I did not know this. This is good info. I was assuming the format of the apps would be the same across all phones, so the menu screen would be visible, even if you had a physical/capacitive menu button. I'll be curious to see when some "official" (read: stable daily driver) roms come out, and see what happens.

[Q] Nexus S 2.3.6 Hidden Menu?

I have accidentally opened up a menu that I have never been able to do before (or again). I think I was long pressing something but I am not sure.
Anyways, at the bottom of the screen, there was what looked like a speech bubble with 5 icons inside of it. Looked a lot like the menu in ICS. I don't know how I did it and I have been trying to do it again. Anyone know what I am talking about?
Thanks,
Mike
Long press Home to bring up your most recent used apps that are stored in memory.

Task switching on ICS-loaded Nexus S

How does it work? Is it the same as in GB as holding down the home key?
I ask because I am interested in the Round once CM9 is released for it.
Yeah, hold down the home key and it comes up.
Is that the only way? Seems "slow" compared to just tapping an icon
Yeah, there is already been suggestions to make the search or menu button do that. I'm sure CM9 will eventually have options to configure that. I know CM7 has it.
