thanks! just making sure ,hehe. i think i got the nice screen this time, havent check though but the screen looks more vibrant and colorful. the downgrade looks like a tedious process .. oh well here goes

I've done a nandroid restore from one Nexus One to a warranty replacement. Worked fine. The only thing to be aware of is that some apps will get a bit of a hangover from the IMEI change. For example, Swype beta will get angry at you.

First brick! Holla!

Oh yea, the first brick on the block.
I was experimenting with stock rom modification through ADB and within the OS itself. We still can't flash anything with the "backdoor" CWM that we have at the moment that wasn't even designed for our phone, but it will allow you to do a nandroid backup, so I made sure to back up everything in case I did something stupid. Well, I did something stupid. So stupid in fact that I can't get back into recovery, I just hang at the initial boot screen. So I'm kind of glad an odin TAR file is being worked ok. I think I'm going to need it. Oh well, no progress without failure.

[Q] Rooting and ROMing HTC EVO

so i have rooted my evo before but i had to take it in to sprint because i broke the screen. i havent rooted it again since because last time they gave me a huge problem that it was rooted. today, i talked to my friend and he has his rooted with roms and everything. he says that even if rooted, and with a rom it is possible to go back to factory with superuser app gone and everything, if need be. i wanted to know if this is correct, and if so, how?
i am supposed to go to his house tomorrow for him to do it all for me, i want to make sure i really want to do this.
thank you!

First, you need to go to unrevoked and root your phone. There are plenty of step/step guides out there, I'll see if I can find a good one for ya. Recommend doing a bunch of reading before jumping in, or waiting for your friend to do it tomorrow.
Edit: be sure to click on More info link on unrevoked site and read up.

Q? return to stock error, return still possible?

I went to my backup rom, unrooted, removed all apps...and duuuh realize that my backup was of eagle bloods rom, and it read eagle blood in the firmware (in the about menu) and not stock LOL
so I got turned down on the return (figured Id wait for the sensation), anyway does anyone have a stock rom, untouched somewhere? and also can I return the phone to any tmobile, or does it have to be to the store I bought it from...my local store is small, so I bet if I try and go back now they will just remember me lol
thanks

If you look at the development section you will find the rooted stock version. You can flash that and then unroot using superoneclick.

yeah I tried that rom, I need one that is untouched no apps installed, none deleted
the guys at my store went through it like crazy, in my attempt to return it lol
might keep it though, as I just installed the newest cm7 kang build and it basically cleaned up all the issues I was having on my device
It's very easy to return to stock.
Unroot using super one click root
Flash the stock recovery using NVFlash
Hold down the vol - / power and it'll restore.
thats EXACTLY what I did,
but when the guy at the store pulled up the "about" settings, it read the "eagle" rom in the firmware for some reason
and all the stock apps were all gone too, only the ones that were included in the eagle rom that I had flashed, and subsequently wiped a few days ago remained
I know its my bad that I didnt nandroid the stock rom when I opened up the phone for the first time
just was hopping someone had a stock backup WITHOUT titanium or busybody included
Hmm that's strange,
That's what I've been doing with CM7 and it works just fine.
I guess you could try these steps
1. Download stock nandroid backup Stock nandroid
2. Restore with clockworkmod recovery, boot up and then shut down.
3. Flash stock recovery.
4. Press vol - / power to do a factory restore.
5. Boot up and skip the Google login and then unroot.
6. Shutdown and Pres vol - / power to do a factory restore again.
If you read the g2x forum you'll see they have a thread with the tmo bloatware apks

Getting an S3 next week, how important is it to backup your IMEI?

I see some topics about it. I plan to unlock and root as soon as I get the phone.
Just how important is it to backup this, and anything else I should backup too?
its pretty important.. nothing can go wrong by backing it up. once you root it back it up just in case so your new phone wont be a $600 paperweight!
When you install CWM do a nandroid backup of stock

That's good to hear. I figured I'd make stock backup too. Having stock rooted won't mess it up I'd presume? Is there an app that does it too?
I have flashed all the roms available, including CM10 and had no trouble with IMEI. Always good to backup though. There's a fairly simple process in the CM10 OP.

once rooted and you have installed clockwork mod recovery or TWRP you can make a back up of your whole phone..this will not mess up anything. You can get these two recoveries by using the ez recovery app on google play....... To make a backup in the recovery it will say backup and restore as one of the main options

O my bad you have to be rooted in order to run the operation through a terminal emulator app
If you poke around in development there's one for Mac/Ubuntu (I think Ubuntu anyway) that does root and clockwork recovery from your computer, and that's what I use because it's pretty quick and easy.
If it can ever be important you should make a backup of it though. Since fixing things is always a process, having comprehensive resources for it can trim a lot of time.
Using QPST it only took me like 5 minutes to back mine up. Really simple. Then I put a copy of the file on my HD, on my phone's SD card and one on my Google drive. Now I'm sure I can't lose it. LoL they are small files too. Under 500kb
--Sent from GlaDos baked potato
I’d like to look further into it.
I lost my IMEI and other connection data with a bad flash of a CM10 nightly. I had to do a lot of stuff, including manually typing in my IMEI using QPST and then returning my phone to the Verizon store for them to do some factory-reset style stuff to it before I got connectivity again. (Even though I was bone-stock with a re-locked bootloader they still knew I had rooted and messed with the kernel and other stuff, btw). And its not completely correct, even though I am in my home service area I constantly have the flashing grey triangle that says I am doing international roaming. Pretty weird. So long story short, backup IMEI and everything else BEFORE FLASHING ANYTHING.

Yes, there's always a chance you'll loose it. Better to be safe, than sorry. It only takes a couple of minutes to backup and it may save you the hassle of an exchange.
I backed up the IMEI using this method ( QPST) http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32397-tutorial-imei-backup-nv-with-qpst-us-variants/ It doesn't say should i reset the modems to mtp-adb?
it doesn't say and i would have posted it there but the guy at the end of the thread seems like he is all pissy if you ask any questions. thanks guys

Can you put up some Screenies that show your stats... baseband, kernel, build, etc.... Might shed some light on the process. My first attempt was a dirty flash, with no wiping, haha..can never remember if it's back to front or front to back... didn't work out so well. I bricked mine as well but probably differently than you. If like nothing more than a safe way to flash this since my new s7 is sitting in the box waiting for the next update. Seriously not trying to sound like a d**k of it came out that way, been drinking

I already flashed back to 935U but I did it 3 times yesterday. First time I did it exactly as stated on here. Do the root and what not without wiping and I kept my apps but it caused problems. So I tried it once more this time without wiping anything besides my apps and it worked but laggy. Then finally I tried again but this time fully wiped and it took forever to boot up (around 40mins) then finally it booted but no service. It did show some signal bars but as soon as I tried to call it would drop.
I followed this guide with rooting stock rom and going to echoe but got a stuck preboot screen. Odin'ed back to stock afterward.
Tried it again because I am anxious to get this working but it failed again.
This guide is not helpful. I did flashfire no wipe, echoe (no wipe, stock framework, sprint) and it did not work. Do I start with U firmware and root that?
I am sorry for the late response. I guess i got lucky then . but its basically just a theme being on how the modded UI doesnt work. I will Work On Screenshots and a better guide today. Going to wipe my phone right now and start fresh.
@Jonn9211Do you remember at what point you bricked your phone? It might be helpful to others. For what it's worth mine came from a full flashfire restore of a sprint backup while on the latest tmo firmware. Screen went black in the middle of process and never returned. RIP
