Are you certainly entering your Devices serial number and not the IMEI correctly?
Settings-> Phone Identity-> Device Serial Number
I am
When the app asks for the beta key it shows the same serial number

download the revolutionary app again, and enter the SERIAL not imei number again....
Copy and paste the beta key number in don't write it in it will then work

Will do that, thanks, in my dream just now I keep seeing that I change to an l and a 1, that's how much it bugged me
I'm even dreaming about the beta key
Did you get it to work? If you didn't don't forget you have to copy and paste it into the command/ terminal window, as the key is extremely temperamental/ case sensitive.
Yep its working now thanks
The l was an I afterall copy and paste did the trick
Now that I have successfully got s-off and installed cwm , how do I gain root on my desire s
not sure which file to install

You can try and root your stock ROM, but I'd highly recommend trying a custom ROM first, eg. LBC or Virtuous Unity

You are the FREAKING man! Spent hours and almost gave up. I dont understand why Revolutionary wouldn't use a font which is easier to read. There was a lower case "L" followed by a capital "I". Almost completely impossible until converted into Times New Roman! Thank you sooooo much!!!

If you'll click the top left corner of the terminal window it will drop a menu down, and there is an "edit" submenu, and then you can paste from there.
I have been having this problem trying to root my HTC Thunderbolt as well, though I've rooted 2 before with no problems. I am going to try copying and pasting this afternoon, and hopefully that will do the trick.
i wrote the same beta key, but it said it's invalid key
Can anybody help me to solve it, please?

From the way i see it now, we need to BOOT with the XTC CLIP to make the DS S-Off
Then u should root it with SUPERONECLICK.. search on the forum ..
Finally, install any ROM u would like in ROM MANGER .. (CayanogenMod / CoreDroid..)
Hope i helped

You're right in saying that the only way to root on DSS is currently XTCclip.
But as for ROMs the only ones you'd be able to instal (except official ones) are the customs that you'll find in the android development section of this forum (although I don't believe that any are available through ROM manager).
there are four or five different cooks.....to choose from, but the number has doubled in the last week alone so things are certainly looking up.

would i be correct in saying that once i s-off'd my phone and then rooted it, i would be able to uninstall the apps installed by my telco?
i'm not opposed to using the rom installed by my telco, it seems fast enough. i only want to uninstall their stupid bloody apps (which aren't actually apps, but rather links to their website).
Yes, you are right

Can you root using Gingerbreak ? Cuz i read that you need to flash an unsecured boot.img to make SuperOneClick work. What's the difference?
excellent.
i might look into buying myself an xtc clip.
unless a software method comes up soon.

Yeah, i know about the S-OFF part, I'l wait for 2-3 weeks, then use the XTC Clip. If gingerbreak is usable, why is there so much fuss about superoneclick?? There must be some cons......do you know any? Anyway, thanks !!!

I used gingerbreak 1.2 to root after getting s-off and it has done nothing at all to damage my sd-card
It made the card un-mountable when you tried to temp root with out s-off, but that was easy fixed with a battery out reboot

copy the data from the card to your computer first.
then after you've run gingerbreak, copy the data back.
or, go buy another sdcard. they're very cheap.
Please forgive me as I am definitely a complete newbie here. I am trying to root my DS so that I can hopefully run a Bluetooth RSAP app to link my car phone system. I have sent the phone away and had it made S-OFF and I have tried to download Gingerbreak from downloads it says "cannot open file" what am I doing wrong.

I've been thinking the same, also the gold card that the xtc clip makes worked in my old desire to flash ruu's that I couldn't previously flash no matter how many times I tried to make one,so maybe a copy of the card would work for all HTC's?

if this does work, then great, but, you could try to package the parcel a little better, how about adding an explanation detailing exacting what this update should do and under what conditions (from what ROM and hboot versions it's safe to run) along with where you actually got it from or did you create it on your own?

Ok I understand. In the Thread "sense 3 ota update" or something like that in htc desire s general forum. on page 15 comment 145. Some guy posted the link so i took that and some people tested it out and said it was Safe, as you can see in one of my other threads about this update! So i just decided to make a guide of what to do and see if it helps, it will probably get rid of your root, but that is why i said only people with unrooted devices and s-on. It is Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3.0. The guy got it from HTC.COM 9(SOMEWERE) FOR EUROPE! Is that all???

It'll not work on non-euro roms. Hence not working on Asian once. Because of CID checks and also you will not be able to force update if the rom is not asking (downloading) on the right HTC server.

Hello everyone,
I'm new to sensation and coming from the mytouch espresso threads. I am familiar with rules and yes I've searched but my question entitles a little more specific detail.
Basically I'm without pc for the moment and can't s-off for the time being.
But I still wanted to flash cwm recovery and gain root access. The guides in development sticky are great and explain everything but here's my problem.
I downloaded "PG58IMG.zip" to the root of my sd and boot into hboot. Bootloader loads the zip file (i see the blue progress bar on the right) then immediately goes back to hboot menu. It never asked me to "push 'UP' if you want to update".
No custom recovery, no root.
So my question is, do I need to s-off for bootloader to update recovery?
This wasn't the case for espresso but I know that's a totally different device and hboot.
Any help or advice is appreciated.

S-OFF in this case allows the Flashing of Files(Security Off) and SuperCID allows the flashing of ANY ROM to the device regardless of the carrier. So without S-OFF, PG58IMG.zip will NEVER be able to be flashed.
If you ever want to try ARHD's 6.2.x XE/ 6.2.x ROM, Do follow my Noob's guide to Flashing it! It's helpful! It can be found here!

Revolutionary makes your phone S-OFF. After S-OFF boot into bootloader.
Then isuue the following command to write superCID
" fastboot oem writecid 11111111 "
and then
""fastboot getvar cid""
It should return 11111111.
Now "fastboot reboot" to reboot your devices.
Remember to perform this, you must have working adb setup and fastboot binary.

Advantages of S-OFF..
You can resize the 'system' partition.. So you can fit a larger ROM into it, without having to delete stuff from it..
You have complete control over your phone..
You can change SIM lock..
Right now you only have read/write permissions to the 7 partitions..
If you have S-OFF, you can duplicate someone's IMEI number, if you know what to do..
And do some other cool stuff..

The "S" refers to NAND storage security, so "Security On" and "Security Off". It has a number of effects, but the most obvious is that if you have both S-Off and root you can write to the /system partition while running Android, so easily remove system apps (device changing the sizes of the internal storage partitions is the main use).
I can write to /system/ while running Android without S-OFF.

How?? If you're talking about flashing ROMs, and removing or adding system apps, then we are saying two different things..
If not, then please elaborate..
I mean adding and removing files from /system/.
For example, I can remove Trebuchet.apk from /system/ with some kind of root explorer after installing Nova Launcher.

Yes that you can do from the OS.. You have unlocked bootloader, so you get access to these partitions.. But not to radio.. And also, you cannot write to any other partition, except /system and /recovery..

Alright guys, I have the code for the exploit written for the Wildfire S(thanks to the devs over at WFS forum), now I need an extracted RUU.. So if someone has it, please tell me.. I need a few files from the extracted RUU of Explorer.. Post here ASAP if you have the RUUs... And I'll tell you what files I need..
I'm a bit busy at the moment, as I need to re-download Android SDKs..
What RUU and which files?

Both HBOOT versions if possible..
Can you provide them??

Yes.. And I need all the help I can get.. Can you get me the files I mentioned in the above posts?? So that I can get started?? It would take a while for me to download it myself, as I have some other things on my plate right now..

Download an RUU.. It'll be a *.exe file.. Run it.. Then, while it is running, go to Start > Run > Temp folder(the command should be "tmp" or "%temp%" or something like that, I've lost touch on windows)..
In that folder, you'll find all the files that the RUU extracted.. There should be a ROM zip, an HBOOT file, a DIAG file, etc.. Bring all the contents except the ROM zip itself..
Download the asian RUU.. I'm almost done with the European RUU.. And PM me the files.. :good:
