Looks like I'm going to Verizon or sprint. Anything but at&t they always drop calls.

The network will actually be stronger because of the takeover but what I do foresee is a lack of our current freedom that T-Mobile provides us with its data plan, AT&T clearly likes to limit its customers' options to 2GB and furthermore AT&T seems to going the way Verizon has and invested heavily in LTE technology as opposed to T-Mobile's HSPA+ which leaves us MT4G users dead in the water. I have heard that AT&T was seeking to expand its current HSPA+ network but I'm not exactly sure by how much and whether it runs off of the same bands as the T-Mobile HSPA+ network since their current 3G networks are on different bands.
I am interested to see if they will change their outlook on the way they handle business. BUT IT LOOKS LIKE I MIGHT GO BACK TO SPRINT
Yeah this most likely means sprint for me.
So what's the best android phone coming out soon for Sprint?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Here is at&t trying to become a monopoly again. Most of us left at&t cause of the crap service now we are back. I can't believe it I rather have sprint actually buy T-Mobile then at&t.

buying a GSM phone in the future...
"Welcome to T-AT&T. How may we give it to you?"
Yes, I'd like an order of 5 year contracts and a side of carrier specific manufacturers. And a medium "iPhone to T-Mobile" to drink, with extra irony.
"Great and how did you want to pay, first-born or second mortgage?"
Wow you beat me to it lol

Ya it's gonna be sprint or verizon for me too. I want verizon but isnt it expensive? What do you guys think? Whats better?
Well, I am absolutely not in shock. I work corporate so i had knowledge of talks..but i was under impression we were doing spectrum agreements. Not this bullsh*t. I am NOT happy as I DO work for AT&T but...I know our strictness when it comes to Data Tiering and deposit structuring, etc.
On the network side it will be an advantage as far as coverage goes..but this is bad news for pricing and customer retention..
I anticipate a customer drop the 1st 3 months this is finalized.

Yeah, I'll be one of them. Almost 100% guarantee I'm moving to Sprint. I get a 25% discount with my company anyway. I got 12% with tmobile which was still cheaper but there's no way I'm staying with at&t.

lol @ everyone jumping to conclusions
calm down people...we have no idea the details of the merger...no idea how or when it will effect us...and for the most part people that already on tmobile cell and data plans will be grandfathered into whatever they have now
now...i will say im not happy with this news...i was an att customer for over 7 years way back when and i dont want to be one now...but being i just signed a 2 year contract again to get my new phones...im stuck...but im not going nuts yet until i hear what the merger means
EDIT: i just read that the deal still has to be approved by the gov't and will take up to a year for the merger to actually be fully implemented http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2382267,00.asp
Ironic that I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile so I could afford a fully featured phone with reasonable data rates...

It's not confirmed but basically... it's looking like the merger is going to go through... they just jumped the gun, but for good reason the only real opposition they face is Sprint but one company probably won't be enough to mess up the merger, and it may not suck. If they want to keep customers, they have to maintain the quality that people are used to from both companies when they merge them. At first it's gonna be a mess but I think in the long run it's a good thing.

Also it's not about one company standing in the way. It's about the federal government, the FCC approving the deal. It's about everyday people playing their parts and writing to their congressman and to their senators as I have to tell them that we don't need or want this merger.

I say suck because I remember when I went through the Cingular to AT&T merger and I was treated like dirt. T-Mobile is one if the last companies I actually don't mind paying every month because of the stellar customer service they provide, and the amazing plan I have. That super limited data plan new iPhone customers get with AT&T is a joke. I am praying for the best, but expecting the worse. Strap in, here we go folks!!

I have been a t-mo customer and I love the service. When this happens it's going to HUGE change for the current t-mo customers. We as current t-mo customers are not going to be happy.
You have to realize, AT&T didn't force T-Mobile in to this deal. Deutsche Telekom sold T-Mobile U.S. because they didn't have the cash to make it competitive and it was under performing financially. And the deal is officially done. It can become undone if it doesn't get U.S. approval but until and unless that happens both companies are preceding toward closing the deal. I'll bet you too that when T-Mobile discloses their Q2 numbers they're going to be bloody. Q1 was awful and that was with no impact from the merger announcement. Q2's results will help justify the need for the merger and most likely accelerate its approval.

SIGH. I'm contract FREE with tmobile right now. Now undecided whether to run in and get a contract, so I at least have two years locked pricing, or whether I'm going to stand by my previous conviction that I'd never give AT&T any of my hard earned money. At least if I grab a tmobile contract, I can feel like I'm screwing AT&T by paying less for a while. Then I can jump ship once my contract is over.
TMOUS would probably just sell to someone else if the ATT merger was denied or go out of business.
I don't understand why people are so against the merger really. I am happy with TMOUS but understand if they are not profitable enough to survive.
If there is a budget market out there I'm sure some other company will fill in the spot that TMOUS leaves open. If not then it was pretty obvious they they did the right thing.
Its no different that Cable TV companies. Survival of the fittest.

Your right but the government wouldn't allow that... from what I'm seeing the merger is going to go through, and the infrastructure of t-mobile will split up in some way. The end game for ATT is to acquire all or at the least most of t-mobile cell towers.
The fact is they can make it happen without monopolizing the industry because at the end of the day only certain states are at risk of monopolization.
ATT is not stupidly investing billions of dollars into attempting this merger when they know full well that their major problem preventing them from being okay'd is the fear of monopolization.
When I say Sprint is their major opposition I am stating that they are the ones highlighting the other downfalls besides monopolization

Yea that's probably a good idea. especially if you know for a fact that you can handle the current prices, because when things go through it may get worse or better, I'm highly doubting it will get better though. I would wait at least a year to lock anything in, it's gonna take at least 1 year to 1 and 1/2 before ATT can mess up tmobile rates on plans.

They also have a lot to gain if the AT&T merger doesn't get approved. They'd be able to buy T-Mobile for a lot less than $39B and they would. Their motive for scuttling the merger isn't because they're concerned about the little people. Once a company's "in play," which T-Mobile is, things can never go back to the way they were. Try to imagine a Sprint/T-Mobile merger with CDMA, Wi-MAX, and GSM. Not pretty.

If you got it now then most likely your contract will be up right around the time that Att gets full control over t-mobile... So it shouldn't be too painful for you... But you also have to ask yourself what's the better option... Verizon is probably the only choice but their rates are higher... They do have better quality connection on average though... Well just read radioshack is kicking T-Mobile out and bringing in Verizon to all stores. I see the end is near i don't understand why people choose the other carriers when T-Mobile gives you the Best bang for the buck handdown. How will we be left hanging? Even with the buyout, AT&T will be forced to grandfather all of us and our existing contracts. If we are forced to change anything (plan, device, etc) it would be a violation of contract and we would have an out without penalty. Those of us without a contract have the potential to get screwed sooner. But if that happens, just leave since you don't have a contract anyways.

I just jumped ship from TMO. I was on flex pay with no contract with two lines. Sprint gave me $125 credit for each line just for porting my numbers to them. Then on top of that I said I worked at costco and got 23% off my monthly bill. Plus they will give me a free home airwave which is a signal booster/free wifi calling AP. and with the GV integration any call you make is considered mobile to mobile and doesnt deduct from your minutes(if not on unlimited plan)
Sprint's 4g coverage in my area is pretty strong as well.
so for $120(after the 23% rebate) I get 1500 anytime minutes, unlimited texting and 4g on both lines nights and weekends (nights start at 7) truly unlimited data, free mobile to mobile calling on any carrier plus the GV intergration which every call is like mobile to mobile and the free airwave for my house. I couldnt resist I just got the evo 3d but have 30 days and might return it if the GS2 comes out by then and if it's any good

I agree! I Never had any service problem whatsoever. Even if the buyout doesn't happen and T-mobile decided to close their doors, it would not happen for at least 2-3 years as they have binding agreements to provide service to millions of customers. Even that scenario is unlikely considering T-mobile stands to gain $6 billion and a percentage of atat spectrum in the event negotiations go south. There is also reason to doubt what some call ''the inevitable'' based on T-mobile's recent swarm of high end devices, price plan adjustments and advertising. T-mobile has never made as much noise throughout its lifetime in the U.S. as it has within the last 7 months.
Have fun with the dropped calls.

Who shops at Radio Shack? only old people looking for rare batteries for their cordless phone from 1994. This move doesn't affect T-Mobile in the slightest just shows that Radio Shack is struggling. T-Mobile by far has the best signal strength in my area. Sprint sucks you will get dropped calls several times a day. Not to mention you can't talk on the phone and surf the web at the same time....
T-mobile's been solid for me and i can honestly say I have had every major carrier available in the Chicago area in the past few years. Sprint is a close second but their 4G was spotty and while traveling it was almost at 3g speeds.
Were fine, were in contracts (most of us) and if AT&T takes over and tries to change it, itll be an easy way for us to get another new shiny phone from another carrier
AT&T does have the ****test service though, I had a 3GS for 6 months never had so many damn dropped calls. There was 2 city blocks by me I had to avoid when I was on the phone cause it was a dead zone lol while every other carrier had signal there fine
Back when I had my HD2, my tmobile connection was questionable. But since getting and HTC Sensation 4G I haven't dropped a single call yet. The Antenna Design in the Sensation is definitely above the rest. The only thing I don't like is the new data caps on high speed access. I am on 5 GB plan. I called tmobile to ask what do they mean by reduced data speed after I used up my quota and they basically said I would be on edge til the end of the month. Not very cool, but better than paying overages.
Well It's nice to have more than one spot to buy your phone local. Considering where i live best buy mobile don't carry T-Mobile now radioshack won't . I'm down to two places the mall where it's impossible to get a phone before they sell out or walmart. So to some radioshack ain't a big deal but too me it is, i got several phones from them and if it wasn't for them i wouldn't have got this sensation when it released. The mall sold out in a hour and so did walmart.

I bought all of them off ebay with no contract.
I have never had any problems with bad phones from ebay.
These days sellers are pretty honest if there is a problem.

Many of the phones on Ebay are New in Box too.
I still don't understand why people still think they need to purchase from a retail store. You are better off especially with the Tmobile merger coming up, to buy a phone outright, then get a month to month plan. That way if the network goes to ****, you can switch with no termination fees.

AT&T's Merger with T-Mobile May Actually Fall Through
OHN HUDSON AUG 12, 20113,533 ViewsComments
In a surprising turn of events, the mega merger that consumer watchdogs decried, but most deemed a fait accompli, faces a real risk of disintegrating at the hands of federal regulators. Last night, a new poll of policy analysts examining the proposed $39 billion merger between AT&T and T-Mobile found that the deal was now more likely to fail than pass FCC and Justice Department approval, according to an average taken from the respondents

Agree
Agree. Really hope the deal fails like flat breaks.
I would love to see the deal fall through considering I just paid two ETFs of 200 dollars to leave ATT last night and switch to T-mobile. I've been with ATT for almost ten years, dealing with tech support and unresolved issues was the last straw.
Either way, Tmobile people will win.
If the deal fails - there is a roaming agreement with ATT, and Tmobile gets cash + spectrum (enough spectrum to deploy LTE - which is odd since ATT says they don't have enough as it is).
If the deal does go through, then you have a combined network, and your plan will be grandfathered in.
Either way, service is going to be improved.

My service is excellent now. If AT&T gets it grubby little paws on the network in NYC, its going to go down hill. AT&T does not grandfather plans. Once my contract is up, my plan goes up. My fear is this...
I had a bad experience with Cingular back in the day and it left a pretty sour taste in my mouth. I'm not normally one of those people that says "never again!" to things based on one support rep, bad billing issue, etc... I'll normally work through a brunt of issues before declaring war on a company.
I won't go into great detail but it is war now. It's made me consider cancelling my plan with Tmobile and withdrawing service to someone/something else. If ever there is a time to investigate gizmo and sip service with wifi, it's now... I'm not completely there yet, but I have begun to investigate.
The first sign of doomsday has already struck, my unlimited loyalty plan has slowly increased in price, and I haven't changed single thing about my plan and now I suddenly have a cap on my "unlimited" data... the tmobile I signed up with back in 2004 is not the same tmobile it is now... and I've only just recently noticed it. Yes, it is possibly because since the news of the merger I have feared the worst... but so far it's grim. It seemed like they have also slowed down production on new phones for tmobile, I'm assuming this is because of network merging etc that they are focusing their eyes on other tasks first, but I'm disheartened to say the least.
I hope that I am proven wrong because I already hate Sprint and I'm not 100% sold on verizon either. Tmobile, please, reconsider your "unlimited data" plans and give me what I pay for... otherwise you should have given me the option to change and void my contract instead of changing it and saying "deal with it", which has never been your MO until the news of a merger.
/rant
Sadly this is ATT's tactic. They are trying to scare away as many customers from tmob as they can. The weaker tmobile is the easier the buyout will pass.
The commercials they are running make me sick.

Now cell phones are today what landlines were back then and they are doing just the opposite. AT&T wants Tmobile to get rid of competition. The less choices one has the more customers for AT&T.
In todays economy everyone has to look at costs. My company just switched to Tmobile because of the new business plans that they started to offer. If the merger goes through and the plans don't grandfather in, I cant see my company staying with AT&T but for two years they get to save some money.
Stephenson is a giant turd.

Hey AT&T, what did the DOJ's five fingers say to your face:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-...t-to-block-proposed-at-t-t-mobile-merger.html
I have so much hate for AT&T for their outrageous pricing, terrible service, and I just hate them. Can't explain it. Maybe because I've been with Tmo for almost 8 years.
Hope this merger goes down in flames.
and then I was like F*&k YEAH!!!!!!! It's about time we got some actual anti trust enforcement! I highly doubt many tmobile customers will be disappointed by this!
Good news indeed. However, this is far from over. AT&T have about 7 billion reasons to keep fighting for the deal to go through.
Coolness! I despise AT$T! Everything about them makes my skin crawl. Now we need the FCC to get behind this.
I'm glad DOJ did what they did. I can't stand at&t. Them and Verisux! Charging outragious prices. Thank You DOJ for looking out for the little people. It shows that greed doesn't always win in the end.

For once I'm glad the DOJ did something about this. There's an update where ATT CEO commented on how it's on the burden of proof from the DOJ to prove why the deal is bad.
FCC says will not undermine DOJ in AT&T review
http://news.yahoo.com/t-t-mobile-de...BzdGNhdAN0ZWNoBHB0A3NlY3Rpb25zBHRlc3QD;_ylv=3WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Federal Communications Commission said it will not undermine the Justice Department in its review of AT&T Inc's $39 billion bid for Deutsche Telekom AG's T-Mobile USA.
The Justice Department filed a lawsuit to block the deal on Wednesday because of anti-competition concerns.
The FCC has never approved a significant takeover that the Justice Department has challenged in court, a commission official said.

Sweet Justice!
If the merger falls through that would actually encourage me to cancel my contract and go back to AT&T because T-Mobile service in my area is just bad and my experience with the G2x isn't much better.

This injunction is nothing more than the Obama regime shaking down AT&T. They have done it to other groups and companies. It is standard operating procedure for Obama. AT&T will pay their pound of flesh (or whatever Obama really wants) and the issue will be dismissed.
Just last week Google bought their way out of trouble for half a billion.
This is the response from the company that owns T-Mobile

Everyone cried about Tmo's data cap. Verizon and ATT are capped also. For kicks I went to ATT to check pricing on Iphone. 1 phone plan was nearly the same as the 5 I have on Tmo. After I told that to the rep he closed the brochure and said yes thats our priceplan. I politely pointed out that thats probably the reason I was the only one in the store and made my way to the door.

What you guys don't understand is that T-Mobile can't make it on its own. That's why Deutsche Telekom was unloading it. They also can't afford the investment necessary to move to LTE and staying on HSPA isn't a viable long-term competitive option. Discounting their way to success (the current strategy) isn't viable when they have the highest unit cost base of the four major carriers. If the deal falls through, they'll end up merging with Sprint. Combining Sprint's CDMA network with T-Mobile's GSM network isn't going to be fun for either set of customers. Be careful what you wish for.
