Alright, I have searched this forum and can't seem to find an answer on this. I have a SCH-i500, Froyo installed and CwM Voodoo flashed, but I can't seem to get CM7 flashed on my device.
Every time I try to flash it, it comes up as having an assert error. I have cleared the cache and data, and I believe I'm using the right files, but that could very well be my problem.
Any help would be appreciated, and I'm new, so sorry if this was asked a while ago and I missed it
Try flashing a version of MIUI first, and then CM7. That way you'll be on CWM 4 when you try flashing. At least that's what I did!
The cwm listed in the cm7 thread didn't work for me. I used the one from the Verizon Fascinate thread I think (cwm only). It worked fine.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Do you have lagfix enabled? For some reason CM7 wouldn't flash for me until I enabled lagfix.
I flashed MIUI on my phone and it works, but it still won't let me flash CM7, same error and everything. Both the mesmerize and the fascinate versions.
And add, I'll try that and see where it takes me.
Same assert error. Am I doing something wrong with CwM?
I have CwM Voodo Lagfix Recovery v2.5.1.x
Try the cwm from the fascinate post, like I said.* It's updated.* Not the cm7 rom, never use one for a different device.

Okay, thanks. I'm at work now, so I can't do it till later, but I will try this. I misunderstood you in thinking you meant the rom lol good thing that didn't install.
Be sure you've updated to EE19
@agri123 Omg, your tip worked. It's installed, the correct kernel is installed and everything, thank you so much.
Good! One thing that would be nice on here is a wiki post right below op (if there isn't one...). So that current issues would be easily found, notices of outdated files, etc. Would be better than searching through dozens+ pages, especially if op isn't updated very often.

awesome thanx for figuring it before i had to try a thousand combonations...
This is awesome!
How long should it stay at Samsung after doing all of the steps? I did all of the steps. Samsung flashed several times. Now its just staying at Samsung. Been this way for a couple of minutes.
sdcard issues
ok, first of all I did this and everything worked fine.
Upon first reboot, I think it went 4 or 5 times through the samsung bootloop and then loaded the rom (i wasn't watching it fastidiously).
Upon loading the rom and loading my apps from titanium backup, I finally hit the issue of not being able to move apps to the sd card; it just comes up with "failed to move application". I've rebooted just to make sure things weren't off from first boot. It's still not letting me move any apps to sd (even if allowed in the os).
Any ideas on what to try next?
I'm still at Samsung logo. Don't think its going to load the Rom. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Following the steps. This is the second time I've tried this.
NM, figured it all out.
Going to give it a shot shortly.
This failed to work 3 times. Going back to RFS Gummy.
did anyone else lose ROOT access after booting up?
I used Imnuts' EP1Q hacked kernel flashable via CWM.
I went to TB and it said I didn't have root access. Flashed superuser.zip and still no go.

From what I have read over at Rootzwiki, that seems to be a problem exclusive to Imnuts' hacked kernel (possibly, he posted that he is looking into it as some users used his kernel and didn't have this problem). This process uses another kernel.
I was waiting for more users to give reports back, but I might just give this one a go.

Hrmm. Well for the people it isn't working for, try following the guide here to at least get a good copy of EP1Q on there and working first. Then follow my process.
Sucks that the imnuts kernel isn't working right yet. I would love to have the EP1Q kernel working on this, would be much more ideal.
It breaks root for me too. Come one imnuts, i know you know what is causing it, you are a smart cookie. Put out an updated zip already lol...

I executed this method using Imnuts kernel and kept root (Thankfully). However I looked at the post to confirm EXT4, and my Terminal Emulator doesn't match the one posted at all. Right now, it's just showing data and dbdata on EXT4, the rest is still on RFS. Is this normal for GB? I can post the exact coding if needed.

I read the posts, but maybe I did not understand?
I downloaded CWM and installed via the Android Market. Then I see the icon is named ROM Manager (whoops, is this already bad). I hit the "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" button. Then I used up/down volume and power to boot into CWM and did a backup from there.
So am I screwed?
Is the backup good?
Can I use the CWM that I have as long as I boot into it?
Please, I have not been able to understand exactly what the "DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER" means. If I just boot is that ok?
I guess you can tell I'm new but I have a lot of software experience - just not in this environment - maybe I'm moving too fast for my knowledge (I think so now!).

As you can see, CWM is included in the kernel you flash, and thus there is no need for ROM manager. It doesn't play nice with this device anyway, and is just unnecessary imo.
Use the recovery not rom manager itself...

So the OP is fine if he uninstalls Rom Manger even though he used it to flash CWM Recover? That seems a lot simpler then the cwm injected kernal method I just did.
Install rom manger, flash CWM, uninstall rom manger... flash roms all day. Would that work?

ROM MANAGER IS NOT CWM.
CWM is in the KERNEL (well, to be specific, in the initramfs of the kernel) on nearly all Samsung devices.
ROM Manager is an app that tries to install CWM, but FAILS to do so correctly on our device. CWM versions installed by ROM Manager DO NOT WORK PROPERLY on the I777.
ok heres the deal the cwm you booted into was probably rom manager cwm. so here are the next steps to take. question is are you using a custom kernel that has cwm installed? when you rooted your device did you have cwm installed? i also noticed you were using a skyrocket. when i rooted my wifes SR I did the all in one package. My opinion is just unistall rom manager and reflash cwm. then reboot into cwm and make a nandroid backup. although in theory your backup you did with rom manager is good forever unless you delete the file under /clockworkmod/backup.

OP, if you ****ed up probably the easiest step of the process(after all in one of the stickies it says DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER, as so), rooting your phone is not for you.

Reading through this made me confused. But to the OP. Mod Manager is fine. You can use that to install CWM recovery. Just be sure to chose the T-Mobile SGSII version of CWM when it asks.
DO NOT USE ANY OF THE ROMS IN MOD MANAGER THOUGH. They are built for the SGSII phones. You can however use Rom Manager for all other options such as installing roms through SD, fixing permissions, and booting up into CWM, etc.

Probably the part about what else he's supposed to do. If I knew, I'd tell him. I assume he should read the whole thread in dev about how to get CWM installed through recovery but I'm just a novice. You might have been more helpful but I see that a lot of you are too busy hanging out in in dark closets having sex with your phones... tin foil hats and all. I know it's a pain answering the same questions over and over. I've provided support on a lot of boards and on a lot of subjects. When I got tired of typing the same answers, I started keeping them all in a text file so I could copy and paste them, links and all. That way, the info is spread all over the place and new users don't have to resort to finding the single "needle in the haystack." I know the L33T (do they still use that term? It's been about 20 years since i've seen it... probably for the good) love to repeatedly type "DO A SEARCH." Why not just help. If you don't want to and only want to maintain being L33T... do it elsewhere. You serve no function other than stroking yourself. I hate the "slam the noob" mentality. We were all one at some point. Merry Christmas.
The confusion here is that the OP posted this in the i777 forum. The i777 CANNOT use Rom manager to flash recovery and they have to use a cwm injected kernel.
The OP needs to learn where to read about his phone and remember what model he has.

Your thread wasn't deleted. It's was pushed down by other questions thereby moving those thread up and yours down.
For example, if you went to my how to thread a few pages back and posted a question for help or clarification, that will move that thread up to the top, until another new thread pops up. Because of sup many new thread created on the same topic, most regular users annoyed by new thread on the same topic.
Since your already rooted, if you ready through my thread that mtease gave as an answer, there are links to YouTube vids that will guide you.
You should also see a write up where to start if you were on froyo.
Follow the link to gtg's original post. He spelled out very specific instructions on how to flash his ROM by several methods. If you don't want his ROM, use another.
Spend some time looking over the instructions I started...it will start to make sense.
edit: by the way, here was your original post..a page back. It wasn't deleted. Just got pushed further back by other new threads. All you had to do was go to it, and add another question and it would have been bumped up...instead of starting another thread. see?

Infuse Android forum needs an intro
All the information is in pages linked from the Superthread, but the Superthread itself only compiles a rather vast collection of resources with no clear sequence except that which is implicit, and actually links to poor explanations sometimes.
One example, with no offense aimed to those who made the effort, is that it has exactly one YouTube link that explains how to install modded recovery, and it's the only one I've found on YouTube---out of several that are on there---that fails to mention changing the permissions of the recovery file, which is totally crucial. (It has to be set to the same set of permissions of the one it replaces.)
The order in which these things have to be done simply is not laid out clearly for newcomers. I would do it, but I'm hardly knowledgeable enough about the phone at this point to do so. My instructions would be dangerous, perhaps, but I do have a set I made for an email to a fellow Infuse user... will post later. They're a dangerous mess, now
You do not need to change the permissions of the recovery file. Wherever you heard that, they were sadly mistaken. You just copy it to system/bin. After renaming the original to something like, recovery.bak, or old, or whatever. Use rom manager to flash to cwm, choose i9000. Boot into cwm, choose reinstall packages, twice. Simple, 5 min, done. You are making this sound hard, when its simple.

If you go to the Infuse Super Thread and read the Heimdall one click link, it's a good start. It will get you to a full working Gingerbread install, which gets you the gingerbread bootloader that many of the gingerbread roms need. From there you can install a kernel (I suggest Entropy's daily driver) which is also linked on the super thread. Then you can install CWM from Rom Manager, and then it's just following the instructions listed on your rom of choice. I used Heimdall to get to stock Gingerbread, which I was quite happy with for a few weeks. I have now worked up to cm7 using the very same steps. First time installing a rom. Yes I bricked my phone about 4 times, but each time I just reinstalled Gingerbread using Heimdall and started over.

I could not get into the modded 3e recovery without changing the permissions.
The steps I did:
1) Restored to stock using GTG's Unbrick.
2) Wiped data and cache in 3e recovery.
3) Flashed stock UCKH1 with Odin.
4) Rooted.
5) Copied the modded recovery file into the /system/bin folder after renaming the original to recovery.bak.
6) Shutdown.
7) Attempt to get into 3e Recovery. It sat there at the Samsung boot screen.
It still boots normally after pulling the battery. I tried this several times and it simply will not go into the modded 3e Recovery until I changed the file's permissions.
You did it wrong.... read how to root again....

Come to think of it... I didn't install ROM Manager... I already had the update.zip file for CWM on my internal SD storage. Does ROM Manager automatically change the recovery file's permissions?
BTW: I know how to root my phone and I already have the modded 3e recovery and I can get into CWM. I was trying to do all this without changing the recovery file permissions.
Here's the video created by gtg465x stating permissions need to be changed 1:40 into the video.

To the OP: If you get stuck at the white Samsung bootup screen after copying the recovery file into system/bin try changing permissions on the modded recovery file as shown in the video posted above.

Last time I tried ICS it was fairly smooth, not as much as I'd like though. Camera works but not for video recording. There's a few other bugs as well.
I've tried pretty much every rom and kernel in the dev section.
My favorite kernel is Morfic's, I usually go for the elp version for better battery life.
As for roms EaglesBlood, HellFire Phoenix, stock MIUI w/ trinity kernel, Bionix Reloaded, and Weapon G2x all worked very well for me.
My favorites though are EaglesBlood and HellFire Phoenix of course

Yeah, I don't flash roms every week like I used to with my HD2 and this is my first time really messing with radios so I asked for help. That's what the forums are for. I'm sure I've invested more money in this community than you have and I think I completely deserve to make a few retarded posts once every 10 months. Thanks for all your help with your troll posts

After Odin, did u boot into the phone and let it cycle and then install Odin cwm? Give that a try. Also, most of the updated ROMs already have the proper radio, no need to flash. Let us know how it goes.
Run the: ics odin one click. Then odin cwm recovery. Then flash ics rom. Or just flash this rom and you'll be good to go

In cwm its also very important to format /system before you flash the new rom. You didn't really mention if you did that or not, so I'm just saying, just in case

I don't know what you've done to your phone. Perhaps if you make a very detailed list of what your setup is and what you've done so far we can help get you going. Be specific
Afternoon iLiberate,
What carrier are you with?
~PsyCl0ne
EDIT: Actually you know what come over to [RoM] ~[4.0.3.]~TEAM PERFECTION~REVAMPING
Now a couple of things before you start.
I am using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472954 for my recovery. I have had issues with a newer version but this one has helped me through a ton of issues I have had.
(Flash this with ODIN first)
I also recommend getting a wiping script DARKSIDE Super wipe. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487706
(Give props to the guy that put this script together. Keep the zip file some where easy to access, you will be moving it to your phones external SD card along with the rom zip and kernel files.)
When you go into the TeamPerfection thread it is gonna be kind of confusing looking at all the links. Basically you will see 3 Themes (AOSP ICE, KOBALT, Phone Candy) then a link to a rom that is already themed, and finally the stock rom which you will need if you want to flash any of the three themes I listed earlier. For now I would just go for the Sense release we can always change what it looks like later.
Also you will need a kernel.
If you're with AT&T I would suggest getting Mohan's kernel. If you're with a Canadian carrier I would suggest Romracer's kernel.
From here you can basically follow the guide in post number 3. It is really simple just need a little patience and it will go through. Also if you have any titanium backups from Gingerbread, please don't restore those apps when your phone comes back up. Just scribble down a list of apps you currently are running, make backups of SMS/MMS if you wish and then manually download them one by one from the market. Then you can make a Tibu of the apps so if you want to change what your phone looks like you can just restore all the apps in one go.
If you need any more help please feel free to PM me, I honestly don't mind or even post back here. Gonna be doing some work around the house but I'll check back periodically.
