[Q] Get me off of 2.3.3! - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

EVO Shift
I had CM7 running and my speaker phone broke. Meaning I needed to take it in, so I ran RUU and put it all back, I noticed that OTA 2.3.3 update and I was like "eh what the hell" and ran it. Thought it was cool and everything, and I fixed the speaker myself (Sprint was closed). Now I see some bugs with it, like the constant HTC Sense reboot or some glitches with messaging, and I miss my CM7.
I.. can not get off of this. I can not RUU and then root for CM7, I can not root 2.3.3! I used this temp root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185243
and tried getting really creative and combining other guides in order to install clockwork so I can get my nandroid backup of CM7 restored, to no avail....
How can I simply just go back to 2.2 (froyo) I am sick of this..... is there a newer RUU or anything that can get me off [email protected]%ing Gingerbread?!
ALL and ANY help is GREATLY appreciated!

Your pretty much stuck until perm root is found.. There's no way to roll back to Froyo, it's been discussed in several different threads.

Shoot, sorry really tired and I probably should have used the search feature. I can deal with it for a bit I suppose.

Off topic but how did you get the back off your phone to replace the speaker? I bought a replacement for mine but can't seem to get the back off without feeling like I'm gonna break it!

Need HELP, wasted many hours with no progress.

Hey guys,
I been having quite the frustrating day that was going oh so well with my phone.
I decided yesterday to try out the OneClickRoot as I upgraded via Kies to 2.2 on my Rogers I896 Captivate. After that I did that with out any hassles I decided to do a lagfix the OneClickLag via Android market. Today I spent all day reading about kernels and found my phone can run even better. I wasnt interested in custom roms but this seemed like it would of suited me best. Tried to install Hardcore's Speedmod Kernel and what a disaster that caused me. Phone was totally unusable and I followed the instructions given. So I read I had to use Odin3 to go back to stock 2.1 rom which ended up being AT&T's. I just want to go back to my rogers 2.2 n have what I had before. Is there any way to fix this, no oneclick roots worked for me even the one specific for 2.1. So I can't flash back to the rom...
Would really like some help and guidance on this, I lost everything on it, I just want a working phone again
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905042
That should help ya out.
Thank you for your effort, but I finally figured out how to do it.
Took a lot of playing around n files to get it to work but I'm up n running.
Rooted with SuperOneClick
2.2 Rogers Stock Rom
SpeedMod Kernel with lag fixs
Screen still says AT&T on start up then goes to I9000 then Rogers Then Galaxy S but it works, so those are not much issues
Now to go about using the phone and see if any issues arise.
Good job. This is my first android phone and I've read so much my eyes feel like bleeding. Tons of good info here if ya dig around a bit and its usually not too bad if you screw the captivate, most of the fixes have been found at this point.

Yes this is my first as well and after 3 months I decided to get my hands dirt lol. Next thing I want to attempt is O/C ahaha. Definitely going to do heavy reading and researching on that one.

Why did I upgrade to Gingerbread 2.3.3 or, how do I reverse the damage?

So I got a little note today: new version of Gingerbread to update!
So I did.
Not thinking that it would unroot my phone, break my google voice, my swype, and otherwise wreak havoc on my life.
How do I get back what I had? It wasn't broke, why did I need to fix it?
Has anyone else had problems with 2.3.3? If i just root it the way I did last time (flashed clockwork without breaking open the bootloader (?), will it work?
WT
i ve installed gingerbread on my htc n have no problem,
maybe u should see the instruction carefully
Thanks for the reply.
There are no instructions.
My question - specifically - is around re-rooting the phone - if I will need to flash a different clockworkmod - and around why swype is broken, and if people think it will be fixed soon (from the swype side, presumably)
I already downloaded the previous version of voice and installed it with astro - it works again, thankfully. a little miffed that I've lost swype.
wondering what other nexus s owners are experiencing? especially those who rooted.
WT
Also, the screen definitely looks more off-white.
Can someone please enumerate the advantages of the update? NFC only? and now facebook doesn't sync? I'm not sure that was enough to update. Are other rooted nexus S owners avoiding this and flashing cyanogen?
There are certainly issues with 2.3.3 and some people are a bit fed up with them. Swype problems can usually be resolved by a re-install of the software. The Nexus S colour temperature change was intentional to make the appearance more accurate although i'm not sure everybody is having the same experience as a result. Some love it, some loathe it. Perhaps it's not consistent?
You can re-root by flashing the su.zip from chainsDD which at least solves that issue.
CM7 itself is not perfect yet but it's damn near close. Expect a finished release based around 2.3.3 sometime soon. I'm using the Release Candidate on my N1 and i've never been happier with my device.
Thanks. I'll have to oem unlock though, correct? Had been able to avoid that in 2.3.2 which I kind of liked.

You'd have to as you'd need to install a custom recovery to install the .zip. Aren't the Nexus S Bootloaders relockable? I'm sure i read that somewhere.

Sensation user here considering going S-Off and rooting, advice?

Alright, so in the past I've owned an HTC HD2 that I was able to Android on by stumbling though the posts here, a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant that I was able to root, albeit slowly and clumsily, and also my fiancee's old HTC Mytouch 3G. It has seemed though that after rooting and flashing a custom ROM on each phone, a few months later, problems begin to arise. The phone will start lagging, freezing, crashing, etc. It becomes unresponsive at times, won't receive or send calls/messages at times, etc. Now, I readily admit that this is most likely my fault due to my inexperience, so this raises my next question.
Should I attempt to go S-off and what not with my Sensation? Is it worth the risk? Could someone walk me though it, like leading the blind lol, as where to I won't make any mistakes?
A little background, I love my Sensation, and I really like the Sense 3.0 UI, though some of the widgets not updating, such as Friend Stream and News, is really rather aggravating.
So, with my history of rooted/custom ROM phones going bad, and my being mostly satisfied with my Sensation, should I bother going S-Off and rooting? Will I notice a great improvement in performance? Do any ROMs out there offer a version of Sense 3.0?
Thanks for you help, it is greatly appreciated,
Signed,
A lost noob
The whole process is easier than the hd2. It's a must for me there are plenty of roms and they all will improve the speed of your device
You can overclock your cpu to 1.5 like the processor was intended to be used. Go in to the development thread and there's a noob guide in stickies, read it a few times and go for it its easy and safe if you follow every step.
Roms are installed from sd via cwm like on the hd2
Get reading if your stuck ill help you the best I can.

Alright, will do, thanks for that.
It'll have to wait a day, I called T-Mobile today to get a replacement phone, as I have dust under my screen, they're sending me a replacement next day air, should arrive tomorrow. That is pretty damn good service if I may say so. Though I have to keep the original back, a shame, as it has a couple nicks that bug me to no end.

Be careful, as I almost rooted my phone two months ago when ROM's started flying around this forum. Thankfully I waited, since I am now on my third replacement Sensation because they have all developed dust under the screen. If you root it, dont expect to be able to return it. You better REALLY like that dusty look if you do!

So wait and be sure that I have a good phone and don't root until I do, ok, lol, thanks.
Assuming this is the guide in question?

But you can go back to Stock ROM without root an S-ON. I had to return my device, so I flashed the stock ROM and went back to S-ON. It was no problem at all...

Apart from Revolutionary not working for three times and CWM not installing through Revolutionary everything went fine. If something doesn't work as expected just google it - there is someone out there with the same problem.
I tried a few ROMs and kernels out there and i can strongly recommend Bulletproof due to its stability. The best about it is that it's stock based (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1214023).
It will work even better with the Bricked Kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1256668) and system tuner of the market. I am using the new 1.2.5 test-kernel (it's unbelievable fast).
There is only a issue with the camera causing an fc. But you can fix it using the sense 3.5 hack from faux: http://www.multiupload.com/7BIGBQTDLF

Yeah, hopefully I don't run into any problems, I'll end up bricking my phone if I do...
As for the ROM, I've been strongly considering Android Revolution HD.
I have never rooted a phone before now. The process was so simple, if you follow the guide correctly. I'm on Android Revolution HD 3.6.2 and loving it. Very fast a stable, no issues or force closing.
Just remember to back up everything.

WIND MOBILE XT720 users

Hey people,
This is for us Wind phone users.
SFB is to bring the phone back to a pre-OR rooted state correct?
So we have one for our phones?
If someone has an 2.1 nandroid of just after they rooted and OR installed.. I would really like it.. I think I lost my original.
James
Here's the Stock Wind ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20930893&postcount=59
thank you! I did not find that post in my searches.
I tried to load some of these fake ICS like rom builds last night and crashed the phone.
So I had to go back to stock.. used the Brightpoint SBF .. worked fine, and you know.. after all the playing I have done with the phone.. it was simple and FAST.. but then quickly 2.1 eclair became too simple and I remember why I am playing with ROMS
James
Which ROMs are you playing with? I agree, 2.1 is just not developed enough but 2.2 seems to be perfect for this device. I've played with the CM6 Rom (which would give me random freezes) and the Bravo one (which I'm currently using and is my personal favourite).
you need to keep an eye on the apps you have running in the background
that's why you experience those random slow downs, it doesn't actually freeze
unless you really mean freeze as in you need to wait for more than 5 minutes and still not back to normal and need to take out the battery to reboot
because if it's so, then i don't have that problem
Thanks for the rom I need this.
CM6 was the first I installed and I can't rule out the possibility that it slowed down on me but bravo seems more stable and more polished, like if the phone came stock with it I probably wouldn't try anything else. Not a lot of eye candy, but our device simply doesn't have the hardware to be so pretty. Plus im not eager to use roms that don't use our hardware (buttons, leds, etc.)
Bravo is a really good ROM, no need to apologize.
Hmm I didn't mean to sound like I didn't appreciate CM6. I can understand why so many like it, and I am glad there are people who are willing to give some time to make our phones even better than the day we bought them.
I want to give the miui rom a try too. Can anyone comment on its functionality(especially other Wind users)?
Sent from my modded Herotab C8. (genesis) using XDA App
I find that the MIUI rom is a tad slow and unresponsive. The good news is that just about everything works. Lack of memory causes frequent slowdowns and crashes though.
Personally, I've had trouble getting WIND 3g working on everything but CM6, miui and bravo... I don't know why.
hey guys... my question is twofold:
1) i find all the nandroid, sbf, everything a bit confusing... and im just wondering how to use this wind stock rom to bring back my phone to the original wind rom, is it as simple as putting the file into the Openrecovery/Updates folder and booting into Open Recovery and Applying the update? or will just doing that mess things up?
2) a few months back i installed the cm6 rom for xt720, since then ive had huge problems with the radio - such as not being able to make calls or send texts. calls and texts will usually eventually work - depending on where i am, but i have to try them several to several dozen times before they do. i checked out my radio baseband and it is not the same as it should be for wind. will reflashing to this stock wind rom reset my baseband as well? i tried using the baseband update from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1241685) to reset the baseband, but it didnt actually change it.
thanks for anyone who can answer these (noobish) questions
Not sure if you got a reply or not..
With the original ROM you need to use an SBF - I have it, it has been posted here.
Search and you will find the tools you need to re-flash - you need a windows computer, and some software you can download - a clean original ROM cannot be flashed by OR because OR is not in the phone originally.
2. YES putting the phone back to original will be truly original.

[Q]CronMod-Dream running slow/App problems

This is my first post on here, so I hope I'm doing this right. In any case, in the past month or two I've went through a MyTouch 4G Slide and an HTC OneS. Both phones broke so I've went back to using my HTC Dream(G1 EBI0). I was using it before I got my OneS and originally had CM6 installed with Amon_Ra's recovery. After my OneS broke I switched back to the Dream and attempted to install [CM7][2.3.7]CronMod-Dream on it. I got confused by the install process apparently because it wasn't the same with Amon_Ra's recovery and my phone got stuck in a bootloop. After several failed attempts to fix it I decided to start over completely and went through the rooting process again, but with ClockWorkMod recovery. I got CronMod working on this, but I'm not 100% sure I did everything right. The mod seems to be running slow for me, with google play and some apps taking over 30 seconds to load and using the phone taking over 40 before the actual call went through. I was also having difficulty installing apps and getting force close's. It just doesn't seem very responsive for me in general. I'm also not sure if I setup the partition right for INT2EXT+.
During the install process I did not install adw launcher, DPSManager,or file explorer, or email. I did install 3dgallery, spare parts, and dev tools. (Probably forgetting a couple apps.) I'm including screenshots below to see if anyone can figure out if I did anything wrong. I'm still pretty new to this, so there's a pretty good chance that I did. I just need to have my phone working properly as it's going to be my daily driver until I get my new phone. I'm open to and will be grateful for any advice on how to get this running faster, thanks!
That's how Gingerbread is on the Dream - overall slow. Try a Froyo ROM e.g. DreamTeam Froyo or LMC Froyo. You'll be amazed how much faster they are.

Isn't CM6 a froyo mod? That seemed pretty slow itself from what I remembered. I'm mainly looking for ways I can improve how CronMod runs. I can't really give any input on the mod thread as I don't have enough posts to yet...
