Facial Recognition coming... - myTouch 4G General

I was over at UnLocker ( I know the guys are site friends over here, good group of people) a few minutes ago and found two things that may interest us all considering where Smart Phones are heading these days, Check out the read up.
Google Acquires PittPatt For Mobile Facial Recognition Technology
Google has facial recognition in its future, as it recently acquired Pittsburgh based company PittPatt for the very purpose of utilizing the technology.
PittPatt specializes in facial recognition that has been used both for basic face detection in addition to live face tracking during live photo and video capture. The company suggested its facial recognition technology would likely be used for basic photo sorting to “complex video and mobile applications” in the Android operation system.
Google will most likely look to intergrate advanced facial recognition into their Android Ice Cream Sandwich platform for when camera based apps will need to automatically focus on the user that is speaking during a multi-person camera view.

My love for future development had me looking around and found this: http://www.knowyourmobile.com/featu...google_really_unify_the_android_platform.html
Here's a taste of the jump:
Google officially unveiled Android Ice Cream Sandwich this week at its annual I/O 2011 event in the US.
The latest version follows in the footsteps of previous Android incarnations by being named after desserts, but Ice Cream Sandwich could prove the most pivotal update yet in Google’s battle to compete with Apple for phone and tablet supremacy.
Ice Cream Sandwich is designed to combine the smartphone and tablet versions of Android, therefore integrating the two. We’ve heard several times before that Android’s fragmentation holds back Google from being top dog, but Ice Cream Sandwich could see this change.
Google described it as being its “most ambitious release to date”.

After reading through the article I couldn't wait to see what comes of this and what else it will bring to our community down the line. I've seen many communities grow to their peak and die off over the years (sad to see happen but some places don't seem to want to change with technology) but I have a feeling this isn't going to be one of them from the looks of how well development continues to provide more of what we all want and need for future productivity.
I just thought I would post this up and see what everyone thought about it, if it means anything to you post something up.

We all know phones with other UIs will stop the unification, like touchwiz and sense. I will switch to ics if sense takes to long to catch up. But I'm hoping Ics will have a super nice UI like honeycomb

[APP] gSettlers - Android adaptation of Settlers of Catan

Recently released a beta version of gSettlers to the Android Market. Project started as a class project over a year ago and I've continued working on it in my free time since, with some contributions from a few friends.
One major feature it offers is multiplayer, networked play on separate phones. Currently this only works through WiFi, but hopefully we can get a version with internet play working soon.
We are still are working out a lot of the issues and bugs, so any feedback people can give us would be welcome.
Thanks!

maybe you could join forces with http://www.appbrain.com/app/island-settlers/com.settlers ? he's also on xda
I would be open to collaborate with other developers on this, though I expect it would be hard to try to integrate projects that have been developed independently for too long.
Besides the one you linked, I know Stoneskin was also working on a version as well: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698134&page=2
At the least I will be looking at other versions to try to improve my own. From what I've seen of Island Settlers, I like the simplicity of the interface and want to see if I can find some ways to streamline gSettler's interface (I'll admit my interface is pretty bad right now, UI design is not my forte).
I've been working closely with Stoneskin on a settlers Android variant. Its getting pretty dang close to beta. I am confident it will be quite popular.
There are a handful of devs on xda doing different settlers games. I have often thought it would be nice if we could all join forces to create a single game with the best of each dev's variant. But it would probably have to be rebuilt from the ground up.

would you still happen to have this game? I had it on my phone before it bricked now its no longer on the market
any status on this?
looking for this or something similar for my gtablet. i'm curious about this one. any updates?

[Q] Do you think Android is a lucrative platform for developing 3d games?

Hello All,
I'm new to your forum but I've been developing software and games for over 25 years. After recently retiring my Zii Egg to a PMD after ZiiLabs failed to release the dev community a bug free version of Android that actually purposefully was left with hardware support disabled. All the hardware features were there running off their crap OS but they left it out for the Android developers.
Basically I got fkd out of $500 or something..Big deal, I moved on with our PC game development and forgot about Android until last Christmas when I was traveling to see my Family in Texas and had a chance to play with my sister's Galaxy running 2.1. There were limitations but the potential amazed me so I went out and grabbed a Droid X and started digging into the device.
My question to anyone who may have insight is: IS it worth my time to develop for Android when so many are becoming unhappy by the device limitations set by the carriers. For instance if I was to develop a multiplayer realtime simulation or game the technologies that are employed by the carriers such as B.O.D. (Bandwidth on Demand) would create insane latency issues.
Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated.
Ty and Peace!

Right now I feel the market for android is... Well stupid. Most people that have android phones aren't especially tech savvy and really don't know what kind of potential there phone has right at this moment.
Unlike IOS which is one form of hardware that anyone can jump on and play a game, regardless of it's release date and the current technology in their slightly newer Ipod Touch or Ipad.
But, I think that's going to change. Tablets are coming out from all kinds of manufactures and a lot of people are looking to jump in on the excitement. Nvidia is making a quad core processor and gpu (Kal-El) that is really showing a lot of performance benchmarks.
So I do think the market is going to get bigger, better and more lucrative as the serious gamers starting switching to tablets for their gaming needs.
But again... Do remember that it's going to take awhile as tablets still aren't a replacement for a computer and they still don't trump little johnny and susie's want of the PS Vita or 3DS.
Thank you for your very comprehensive answer! Sounds like I'll stick to PC and console game dev a bit longer before dipping into the Android zone. I really love the potential of the device but I concur that the demand won't exceed other platform's that are already very lucrative.
Thank you again for your response
Peace
I think 3D cell phone gaming is a hugely untapped market that will see some hugely major growth in the next few years. I myself just purchased a Sony Xperia Play. I don't think the Play will be a massive hit, but I think it will set the stage to get people seriously thinking about 3D gaming on their phones. By the time the Play 2 comes around, I think we are going to start seeing a lot more interest in 3d gaming on people's cellular devices.

In-depth iOS and Android comparison

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMiY1kSTHZw&feature=relmfu
I almost left Android behind this past week. After watching this video series, I know I made the right choice.
I didn't know that so many features that I consider basic in Android don't translate to iOS. Amazing depth to the series.

Thanks for this eye opener. I'll show this to my friends who is a die hard fans of iOS.
Android has covered 61% of smartphone market in US. So should be a breaking news for Apple lovers. And the video was awesome. Really it will give some knowledge to all iOS lovers.
android rocks
That guy is the best. !!!! Android rocks.
Haha thanks for this - I'll be adding it to my blog about how much the iPhone sucks. Haven't had any good material to work with in a while.
nice video... iOS is the best
Check out his channel on YouTube. There are a total of 5 or 6 videos in the series.

crazy taxi just announced for ios in October what about android?

Ok crazy taxi by sega was just announced for ios but there was no word of android ,this will really piss me off if sega really leaves android out of this great dreamcast port ,& I would not be surprised because we still dont have soul calibur & its been on ios for over 8months already ,but this will be sad & disrespectful to android users if were left out in the cold
I think we will be left out. There are quite a few quality games that android doesn't get and it's a shame

Let's hope. Don't forget Sega has been good to us android users of late. Every title (approx) this year has come out on both platforms. We also got football manager before IOS as well (makes a change) if jet set radio is coming to android there is a good chance this will too. Fingers crossed people. :fingers-crossed:

A few lol examples- soul calibur, rage, infinty blade, marvel vs capcom2, fight night champions, streetfighter x tekken, & theres a few more & gameloft games take forever to come ,but if they say jet set was coming to ios & android why wouldnt they do the same for crazy taxi why just have that for ios only ,also speaking of jet set where the hell is it if crazy taxi is coming in October

Lol that trailer just looks so rushed almost fake even but what weird is it specifically says ipod, iphone,&ipad like android is definetly left out ,i remember the soul calibur trailer being just like that not having android being mentioned at all , & they made sure they mentioned ios & android for jet set ,so either there very lazy or it really isnt coming to android ,but I hope it does come to android cause crazy taxi is my second favorite dreamcast game

LOL was thinking that when i watched all 11 seconds of that video. Maybe its not but lets hope a better version of this comes out first.
Then we can play what we want
Well, instead of wondering if they will bring it; how about we ask them to do it on their official blog?
I already did my part. I want this on my XPlay!
Wouldn't surprise me. iOS has a much lower piracy rate. So blame the people who pirate every app and game they come across for Android.
I am even more sad now that I hear that this is going to release tomorrow ios only
Good news is that there will be an android version releasing soon just no word when

Source?
Well the source for this I got from Google itself many many websites state that an android version is also coming soon ,just Google (crazy taxi on android) just make sure your search tool is on past 24hrs and you will see lots of websites saying sega confirms an android version ,im not surprised android does take way longer to optimize games for since theres so many different android devices, but I really hope xperia play is not left out since buttons would be great for this game ,i hope they dont pull a nba 2k13 & have it for 4.0 & up only
Found it written on the official Sega blog so its 100% Yay
Awesome!
Includes the original soundtrack! :victory:
Guys, it's not coming to Android.
No source on this, just pure common sense. It's now May - nearly June - that's nearly 8 months.
It's obvious why...
Fragmentation. It's really hard to build a game that works on a myriad of resolutions, iOS only has 5 resolutions, and two of those are @2x, making it easy to optimse for them.
Piracy. It's so so so so SO much harder to pirate apps on iOS than on Android. Some devs literally 'give up' on Android, and it's a shame that there are so many inconsiderate people who ruin it for the rest of the crowd.
It's harder. Apple has made sure to create really good tools for it's developers. Google's tools are intuitive, but nowhere near as intuitive as Apple's.
Overall, it's a shame. I really looked forward to having Crazy Taxi on the Nexus 7, but I guess that;s not happening.
making an ios app is much harder than making an android app
dont speak like that
android is best operating system for mobile phones and tablets
ios is just a tiny closed source os thati cant even get it on my hand for 5 mins
