[Q] Low on space (DeSensenized Rom) - General Questions and Answers

Hello and first of all thanks to robocik, who created this rom!
I am referring to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789830
I am using a HTC Desire and installed the HTC Desire HD Rom several months ago until I decided to install the new DeSensenized Rom about 2 weeks ago to improve my phone's performance. However, after a few days I got the well-known "Low on space" massage. I do not have a ton of apps installed on my device so I think this is not the problem.
I noticed that after the message appeared for the first time (phone storage <15MB) the free space decreased even more to now 2MB even though I moved some apps 2 sd card and did not install any further apps .
Is it necessary in order to install this rom to partition the sd card in any way since I was using the Desire HD rom before, which worked well in this concern?
Well thanks for reading and any advice you might have !
Cheers, Robin.
PS: I already reinstalled the rom (full wipe), however I did not format the SD card. Unfortunately, the same error appeared again.

[Resolved] [Q] Problem with StarBurst Froyo HTC 2.29.405 [30 Jan]

I have bought a new 16gb Kingston SD card. I partitioned it 11GB FAT32 and the remainigng ext4.
I rooted my HTC Desire, wiped it, installed StarBurst and then installed Data2SD. So far so good. The phone booted back up and all seemed well but accessing apps was slow. I then tried downloading an application from the market and got the error "Sorry, there is not enough space to install this application".
I checked and my SD card is showing 11gb free space and my internal memory is showing 3gb.
Has anyone seen this problem?
Many Thanks
Formatted both partitions and reinstalled Staburst Lite 1.2.0 and getting same error. As the phone recognises there is space, could there be a permissions problem?
When you flash Starburst, it sets the permissions just before it finishes the install. You're ROM might be bad, you should try downloading the full one. Doing a factory reset. Flashing the ROM. Then rebooting and flashing the App2SD install and reboot again. Hopefully things work out for you. I'm having problems with Starburst too.
I completely wiped and reformatted SD partitions, downloaded the lite ROM (had tried standard) and installed that. Same problems, the phone seen the 3gb internal memory but I couldnt install apps. It did however download the update for google maps and install that automatically. Even after that if I tried getting anything from the market I got the no space error.
When I had the standard ROM installed, I evntually tried the fix permissions button in ROM manager. It did 170ish tasks but didnt fix the problem. This was my first attempt at flashing my Desire. I have learnt a fair bit already about it and done plenty of googling and reading.
I have installed Oxygen for now but would like to get starburst working to try out this performance boost it boasts.
Ok, I gave StarBurst another go, reduced my ext4 partition down to 1gb from 3.x gb and it works now. Maybe a restriction to what size it can work with.

[Q] upgrading to Leedroid 3.0.8.2 question

Hello folks,
I have a HTC Desire.
3 weeks ago I decided to explore the world of roms and roots.
So I rooted my HTC and after a week or so I installed Leedroid 2.4. (with app2sd) (without a factory reset)
When I did that I got a few more programs on my mobile eg.: CIFS manager, Homescreen Changer, a launcher and some more. So inside the rom were some apps I didn't had before.
So far so good.
Today I decided to wipe my Google test account and create one I'll like to use in the future.
These are the steps I followed:
Booting the phone in recovery mode (I took out the sc card)
I did a factory reset
I wiped all data from the sd card on my pc (except the Leedroid rom zip file for clockwork and some music)
put the sd card back in the phone
Booting the phone in recovery mode
installing Leedroid 3.0.8.2 (clockwork , install from zip)
After a some time all was done.
I have to say that my sd card has an ext3 partition of 512mb and the rest of the 4g card is fat32 formatted.
I was well aware that I wiped everything on my phone. I was planned.
But I was surprised when everything was done:
when I installed Leedroid 2.4 it took a long time installing
when I installed Leedroid 3.0 it took a short time installing
Also: I don't have the apps mentioned above when installing Leedroid 2.4.
Is this a very common thing and do I have to install those apps by myself and still it doesn't affect my upgrading?
Maybe this is very normal but it surprises me a lot.
Thanks for reading

[Q] Insufficient storage available-Installation errors & other aggravations?

Hey all, I've been getting "Insufficient storage available - Installation errors" eventhough I have a 32GB sdcard (but only 30MB of internal storage & yes I've moved all existing installed possible apps to sdcard, cleared caches & unmounted-remounted sdcard), what's the best way to resolve this?
I'm still running 2.2 unrooted but considering rooting soon & maybe cm7 or other rom but I'm not sure I want to risk issues when I need it working..
Also notice it is slow to respond upon reboot, maybe due to apps trying to update but encountering the insufficient storage available installation error..
-Appreciate helpful replies
yeah it happened with me too then i tried some customROM on my phone,
btw what phone do you have?

Thanks for clueing me into the fact that I was no longer in the EVO 4G forum, it must have taken me out there after logging in. I'll root & customROM at some point or if necessary but was curious if there is a fix without that. Maybe someone can still help here but I've since started this Q in the EVO 4G Q&A:

[Q] HTC hero damaged ROM

Hi guys!
First of all, I want to say that I'm *really* new to andoid and this rooting stuff. My device is a HTC HERO with VILLAINROM-v13. That being said, this is my problem:
I tried using Link2SD to install apps on my sd card, since my phone's internal memory was getting full (apps2sd was nowhere to be found in the market for some reason). I formatted my sd card using ROM manager (also flashed clockwork while I was at it), then I tried to use Link2SD to move some apps. But I got an error saying 'failed to mount' when I started Link2SD, and so I didn't get it to work. Eventually, I gave up.
A few minutes later, my phone rebooted just randomly (it took extremely long to boot up again). A few minutes after that, it happened again. This time it didn't take so long, but when my home screen appeared, all my apps just vanished, including the Android Market. Phone's internal storage was empty, and there was nothing on the first and second partition of the sd card.
I'm kinda panicing. I don't know how big the damage is, and if it's able to be fixed at all. I don't know much about rooting and hacking the Android OS (actually, I bought this thing with villainrom on it). I don't know what to search on google, I don't know how to put another ROM on there or restore the current one, I don't know what to do!
Any help would be welcome

[Q] P3110 ...internal sd probs.

Just rooted my new 3110, successfully .......(or so I thought) . Now I cannot install anything on internal SD. Whenever I try, I get "not enough space" error message - even the 2 apps(only had the tab 3 days)! that were on the sd before I rooted, have mysteriously moved to phone memory. I cant even install FolderMount , which I had already d/l. Forgive a newbie, but having rooted my Galaxy W phone 18 months ago with very few problems, was hoping tab would be as reliable. Anyone help? (as I dont want to unroot just to be able to use internal sd memory.) Thanks in anticipation.

I'm confused, how did you get apps to run on your external SD without root? Didn't know that was possible. Did you try clearing the dalvic cache? Seemed to do the trick when i had issues with lucky patcher causing that same error. I may be way off base though.
Edit: i think I'm confused, sorry, that advice is surely off. Uhm, perhaps reflashing stock and trying again, seeing as how you do not have much data to loose, using the auto root Odin flashable file.

...........Thanks for the help.. Wasnt talking about ExtSdcard, but sdcard0, the internal storage -,sorry for confusion-. Although "Install manager" shows all apps as being installed on "phone" memory, & "external" memory empty, both "Disk Usage" & "Root Explorer" show the same files/size used, in both locations, so I now figure I may have partition problems after rooting (I used this system : http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1596) Will try the auto method as per your link if I cant solve the issue (though hoping a quick fix might be possible.!) Thanks

Still "not enough space" issues.
Ok. I tried wiping data, flashing back to stock rom, then chainfires auto - root method. All went well - device rooted (again!) fine, BUT I`m STILL having problems with storage. Some apps (especially games) wont install - am getting "not enough space" message, just as before. It seems that all apps that need to be intalled on the devices internal "sd" (such as" FileMount") card just wont.
Please forgive a couple of lame questions, but having never owned a tab before, I`m new to their "vagaries" - Also I have searched here & other online forums for an answer, so forgive my badgering all you "fonts of tekkie wisdom."
. Mine is the 8gb model, & I know a lot of this is taken up by system/ram etc - the "device memory" reports a total of 4.49gb, but TB (& other root apps like sd maid) states : Rom 1.26 gb, internal 4.92GB, sd card 4.82gb (with exactly the same space used in both , i.e. 1.50gb. I also have 32gb micro sd inserted. - Is there an internal partition for the "sdcard0" space , or it there a "physical" internal sd card ? If so how do I format thhis? If not could I have a partition problem? (The reason I ask is that none of the "move to sd" apps I have tried like app2sd, install manager etc work - They state, apps have moved when they clearly havent.
So I think it may be an internal partition problem, (which I presume hasnt been solved by reflashing stock, and re- rooting.) - I did notice that when I was re-rooting by CF auto root, in odin there was partition check box, but CF instructions said "if, & ONLY IF, device is bricked, to check this box. - So how can I , - 1. confirm whats causing the problem?, & 2. -Solve it?
Thanks for any help & advise hopefully, proffered, forthwith.:fingers-crossed:
do a simple thing! factory reset your tab. click format sd ! these issues are solved just by formatting the sd, be it internal! :good::good:

Its a partition, its an emulated SD card. I think the post above me has the right idea.
Also, none of those apps will work. You will need use a sdcard swap script, gl2sd(app), foldermount, or some root app or script that is similar to those.
I think you will need a custom recovery, (like cwm, or twrp) to format the internal "sdcard", i never really used the stock recovery much, but it seems like an option they would leave out. I think there is an oden flashable in developer section. I would find links for you, but i got to get the kids ready. Shouldn't be hard to find.
If you can not format the internal SD using stock recovery, here is a link to the Odin flash able cwm.
PS. I really do not think it is a partition prob., and i wouldn't click the repartition option.

Fixed!!
OK Folks - seems I have fixed the problem, by uninstalling all apps (inc "moving" apps) that dont work or are "buggy" , cleaning/wiping caches/data, then I was able to install FolderMount from here, and now all the instability/storage problems gone. (Am so impressed with FolderMount have bought pro, as I am a bit windy when in comes to T.E`s or running scripts! My 32gb is filling fast enough anyway!)
Thanks for the help chaps - dont know what us "am hacks" would do without you! :highfive:

Cool, glad to hear it. I love foldermount. After weeks of searching, that app/dev came to the rescue, it is well worth buying pro!
