[Q] 2G setting lost after reboot - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Does anyone know how to maintain the 2G setting (data) after a reboot?
I just bought a Nexus One, and it is running CM7.0.3, but after a reboot, the 2G box is unchecked and it uses H... This drains the battery quickly, and I do not use data much.
I had a Nexus One, and never came across this issue.
Ideas would appreciated.
Thanks

no 2g to 3g?

As the subject says recently when i turn off 3g to use edge and then go to turn back it wont let me
The only way i can get back to 3g is to turn data off and on manually by hitting airplane mode
Any suggestions?
Thanks
no one else has this issue?
I have the same issue it takes a long time to get 3g, I'm with vodafone au so the network is horrible. This might be the issue that the phone can get the troubled network.

I have this issue. Only fix I've found is airplane mode/battery pull.
However, if the phone automatically switches down to edge (2g), it will usually switch back on its own.
Don't even get me started on the frequent complete data shut-downs though, and that's with what little there is of the signal present. Completely ruined Google Voice functionality.

Well IM on ATT in the northeast US. I upgraded my radio from XX to UCK and I think it solved the issue for the most. A lot of outages here tho after our storm (apparently only on ATT tho as USUAL since verizon and sprint seem to be fine. ATT blows!

My AT&T One X looses network connectivity PROBLEM

Hi,
I have an HTC One XL from AT&T.
It is SIM UNLOCKED and BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED. It is running CleanROM.
The problem is that my phone looses 3G connectivity and the only way to recover it it's rebooting the phone. The 3G still shows but there is no activity and the apps try to connect until they say "network problem".
I don't use it on AT&T as I live overseas. I do not have LTE so my phone is set to "WCDMA preferred"
I tried with other roms (CyanogenMOD 10, MIUI, etc.) and with almost every RADIO (flashing them with TRWP Recovery and wiping cache/dalvik after).
When 3G/HDSPA works, internet works really fast... but then it "disconnects" and everything sucks.
What do you recommend?
Best Regards.
Not a fix, but have you tried turning airplane mode on/off rather than restarting your phone?
I used to get this problem constantly with stock. Once I installed Viper, I haven't had a problem since. Don't know enough about radios to tell you if a new rom flashes a different radio though.
Try going into recovery, and wiping cache and Dalvik. Similar to area51avenger, I've had this same problem on a couple ROMs, and wiping cache and Dalvik fixed it. Might not work for everyone, but it can't hurt.
My friend i aleady tried that without any good result.

do you have the right APN? if you dont have the correct apn for the LTE network then it will drop connection whenever it searches for one. Maybe just run on WCDMA/gsm instead of WCDMA/GSM/LTE. It solved the problem for me on rogers here in Canada on cleanROM
I have the right APN.
Here we dont have LTE so I run the phone in WCDMA/GSM only... no LTE
Problem persist.
Also replace the phone IS NOT AN OPTION

Is there something like fast dormacy?
Please, need help.
I've had the same experience on both rooted and non-rooted HOX's with various ROMs. I have concluded that it has nothing to do with the ROMs and more to do with the HOX itself but only when not on LTE. Before LTE was turned on in metro Detroit I had this problem constantly. I use the Airplane mode trick to resolve the issue in most cases. Now when I'm in an LTE coverage area my data is very reliable but as soon as I'm somewhere that doesn't have it (rural areas or inside with a poor signal) that ugly problem returns. It sucks because it's clearly a widespread issue that may never get resolved and I don't know who to hate at this point.

[Q] Signal drop

Hi all
I bought a Nexus 5 yesterday. All good but today, the signal (that is, mobile signal) dropped and even with a flight mode on/off and re-scan for networks it did not pick up. In the end, I had to reboot.
It is completely stock 4.4.2 and I'm just wondering if this sort of thing is a common issue. The only thing I can think is I was definitely in a no signal "black spot" for maybe 15 minutes prior to the drop so it's almost like it "froze" and didn't want to pick up the network when it returned.
Thanks
James
Same exact issue, Sir.
It seems to be common, but I have minimized it by installing a custom ROM (I'm using the Cyanogen Nightlies) It is a known issue though from what I have heard.
I think Google will fix this issue on the next update,so don't worry,it's known issue, and enjoy your device!

set your "preferred network type" to 2G (even if "data enabled" is not enabled), you will notice that signal will be stronger
Thanks for the advice, guys. Like you say - as long as it's a known issue then hopefully a future update will resolve it.
For the "set to 2g only" advice - I only get the option of 3g or 4g? I already set this set to 3g only as I don't have a 4g data contract anyway.
Try flashing a different radio. It makes tons of difference on signal quality.

[Q] MMS only on 3g, not on LTE/4g

Hi guys. I spent all day trying to get my MMS to send with 4g to no success. I noticed this only happened since i activated 4g, as with 3g everything was and still is OK.
My solution so far is not the most viable, which is adding to quick settings the LTE toggle.
by activating LTE, the opo loses network connection and only returns in a bit, this is why i say my solution is not the most viable. I would like to know if anyone experienced this and how you solved it. Could really use the help. Thanks

Phone won't switch back to 3G from 2G

Hi everyone.
I'm having a strange issue with my internet connection. The phone connects to 3G fine, but whenever a go into a zone with no or bad 3G coverage (at work for example) and the phone switches to 2G, it'll sometimes stay in 2G even after going into a good 3G coverage area (at home). It doesn't happen every time, but happens a lot. The only way to make it switch back to 3G is by forcing "WCDMA only" through the *#*#4636#*#* menu. I could just leave it there, but then I'd have no connection at all when I'm at work, so I switch it back to "GSM auto (PRL)".
Usually, when the phone parks in EDGE, the network settings don't change, it stays in "GSM auto (PRL)" but it just won't switch to H. Today, though, it switched to "GSM only" by itself, which it had never done before.
I had this same issue with my previous phone (Huawei ascend P6), so I thought that it was probably a problem with the SIM card, so I asked for a new one but nothing changed.
I've seen a few posts regarding similar issues but most of them are very old and none of them have been very helpful. I hope someone can give me a hand here.
I have a Nexus 5 running Android 5.0 - No root
Thanks.
My phone sometimes gets stuck in 3g instead of handing off to LTE. I just toggle airplane mode on and off and it immediately goes to LTE. I know it's not a fix, but it is a pretty quick way to get your data back.
Data connectivity issues are by far the most irritating, considering how much it costs to have a device like this...

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately that doesn't work for me. The only way is through the #*#*4363*#*# menu.
That sucks man.
I'm not sure there is a fix for this. Other than Google fixing it in the baseband. You would think that if the problem were in the source code that this would have been resolved by some of the devs here on XDA. I have had these problems for a few years, and on other devices as well.
I guess I'll have to live with it. Thanks anyway, man.
