I have been compiling the cm7 source and sharing. Gapps and rom boots and work. It is more basic gingerbread aosp then cm7. Cyanogen and teamdouche have been working to get this together and this is more kinda like a nightly
www.crackflashers.com
You will need to flash the new recovery.img to flash/get working gapps.
after flashing gapps, run fix permissions to get gapps to work.
This is cause of cm7 going to ext4 based system unlike older roms that are ext3
The new recovery does make it so you can not use older pre gingerbread roms so find a older recovery to fastboot back to anything like froyo or restore old backups

The gapps are posted on on that link also not built in, building in causes bootloops. Don't have any clue when it will be in rom manager, the one uploaded is the recovery.img built with the source

Im gonna start using the CM7.
They are telling me to install GAPPS but when I click their link it, it takes me to a place with bunch of lists..idk what to do.
and what is CM7 Nightly? is it recommended to install that?
It tells you which gapps you need to install should say ace something or other. Just download it from that list.
For gapps, you want the one I highlighted in orange.
thanks.
what else should I do with the CM7? there are many cm7 links out there and its confusing me. T_T

It's pretty solid with a fresh flash. You could flash a different kernel but the stock one is perfectly capable.
Do yourself a favor and flash ultimate droid instead of cm7. Ud is based on cm7, but much faster and with better battery life.
I tried cm7 and thought it was awful. Buggy, nd battery life sucked.

Ick! There is a reason ultimate droid isn't allowed in xda. Do yourself a favor and do some research before flashing. Also I kinda don't understand how something that is merely a hacked and skinned version of cm7 is so much better.

This is the reason why I lol every time I see someone say that. It's just a re-skinned CM7 with a few more features (that you can do yourself) and a different kernel.
On topic, I would flash the latest nightly. It's just as stable as 7.0.2.

Peter Alfonso's GPA19 ROM is the most stable one that I tried. Look for Peter Alfonso's site and click the Downloads link for crespo. I would post a link here, but XDA's nonsense won't allow it.
Download the 12-07-11 one to get the latest GB version. There aren't a lot of customizations like CM, Oxygen, MIUI, etc., but it's stable as hell. The latest Oxygen (2.3.2) has a REALLY obnoxious, and largely ignored, backlight notification bug where you have to reboot to get the lights to go out... only way I've ever found to fix it is to install another kernel. However, Peter Alfonso's got one of those too... just go to his site and it should be on the second page of the "blog."
I know you said you didn't like ICS, and I didn't either at first, but Pete's ICS ROMs are also great and very stable. The latest is 01-30-12, and you can get it from the same crespo download page.
question.
hey man i got a question, could i use peter alfonso's rooted stock rom for gingerbread (right?) when downgrading, right? instead of re rooting it.

Wow, really. I don't have any ICS envy seeing how sweet those kangs are. They're smooth as butter and stable too! Checking my phone, my current uptime is 132 hours (5.5 days) since my last reboot, which was to flash the latest kang back then.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. Both of his ROMs are pre-rooted, so no, you won't have to re-/root anything. But since you're going from ICS to GB you'll have to wipe everything, so there's no real "downgrade" path.
From a rooting perspective, the only difference I've noticed, that's kind of annoying, is that his GB ROM contains busybox and his ICS ROM doesn't. It's not a deal-breaker since there are Market apps to add it in, but it's kind of annoying that the binary has to be re-linked after each update/flash.

Im asking that if i can reverted back to gingerbread version without loosing root, may i install his pre-rooted stock without loosing root. Thats all, but since you mentioned it, im relived to revert it back. but i couldnt find his link could you provide me one? Also is it regular to flash it back to gb or is there a special method to do it?
I can't post links yet because our fine friends at XDA say that I need to post more for the privilege. Pfft.
You should be able to type peter alfonso downloads crespo and get to the page. 12-07-11 is the latest GB version (GPA19).
There's no "special" method for flashing, just do what you would do when going from one incompatible ROM to another... wipe data/factory reset, format cache partition, format /system, wipe dalvik cache. There are probably a million different combinations that different people will give you for the proper install, but that's what I normally do.
Tryout CyberGR's CM7 MOD and you won't go back:

Just read the feedback in the thread and you'll understand.
perfect, and uh before i do that it could be any rooted gb rom right? just curious, that's all.
Don't mean to hijack the thread but what if I wanted to put a custom GB ROM on top of stock GB rom. I'm curious if you can just flash without wiping? Or should I do titanium backup instead?

Just do a custom install and make sure data backup is enabled and you'll be good to go on rc1.
FB
Is that data backup using CWM or does the installer have it's own process? What I'm trying to say is I know it's through the installer but is it it's own backup or does it create another cwm backup.

The installer uses this uses these:
http://code.google.com/p/bonsai/source/browse/trunk/tools/data-backup
and
http://code.google.com/p/bonsai/source/browse/trunk/tools/data-restore
FB
That's pretty nice. So does it delete the backup folder it creates after install? If not is it safe to assume it's not needed and delete it.
Nope, does not delete it. It leaves a CPIO gzip file in there, but I'm thinking of changing the scripts so that they create tarballs instead since I think it'd be faster.

bit off topic but is there anyway to change the icon png on adw launcher? I am using go launcher ex and is possible I switched from adw launcher ex because I never found a way. Agreed I don't like the Miui launcher either cannot get rid of all the apps except put in a folder, but what comes with Miui that interests me is its lockscreens plus I can have a pattern lock as well.

Don't mess with your moms phone.
Stock rom is the best option for people who only use it as a phone (calls/texts/light internet surfing) so unless she wants to change a new theme everyday, game all day long in [insertdemandinggame] or need 70 apps at one time, you don't need any other OS on it other that stock
here are your answers
1) yes stable release of cm7.2 is bugless , nightly version may or may not have bugs.
2) best version of clockwork mod is 5.0.2.7, i recommend amonra
3)for battery life cm7 is good or you can check oxyen gingerbread(by popdog)
