With 16gb sd internally, how is the best way to partition it?
The best way is to leave it as it is (IMHO).

Good call IMHO. I formatted/partitioned mine and lost the efs folder so my phone would not update the prl. Had to return the phone for another. Wise advice if you ask me. At least back it up first.

Hi everyone!
I have (er, had) a G2X running Bionix Reloaded that fell into a pool this weekend.
Via T-Mobile phone insurance, I got a new one. But I realized that I have some data on the old one's internal SD card that I'd really like to have (like my Titanium Backup info -- knew I should have taken the time to upload to Dropbox).
Is there any way to access that data now? Perhaps using ADB? Doesn't seem like there would be, but I'm hoping there's something goofy I could try. I'm trying to avoid the overhead of setting EVERYTHING up again.
(At least the replacement has the new baseband, so I flashed Kwes' rooted stock ROM to at least be able to get rid of some of the bloat.)
Thanks in advance!
Considering the fact that the internal SD is still flash memory and flash memory usually doesn't survive water very well when there's power running through it, I'd say probably not. But best of luck!

That's a shame, but I appreciate the info.
Onto customizing everything all over again...
Unfortunately I do not know of a way to help you with this. If the phone can boot to a point you can use ADB it might be possible to get some of the data. Good luck to ya.

Hmm... I think I'll give it another day to make sure it's dried out before attempting to boot. Maybe I'll get lucky and be able to pull some of that data off.
I like Kwes' ROM for the root capability, but I sure do miss some of the enhancements of Bionix Reloaded (or Weapon, or Eaglesblood).
Thanks, stormageddon!
Stick it in a bag of rice it will pull the water out a little better and might increase your chances of getting your data back
Also if your looking for a little ICS flavor try EB 4.0.4 they got it working with the new bb check it out

I was able to get my data off the phone! Sweet!!
And thanks very much for the pointer to EB 4.0.4. I'm looking into it now. The modified stock ROM is good to have, but I want more tweaks.
np man glad you was able to retrieve your info

So long story short, GF went out last night and got drunk, tells me last night her phone is broken. Got home from work this morning, checked it out and theres a strange discoloration on the top right corner of the screen and the screen does not respond to touching it. The menu/home/back keys work along with the volume buttons and power button but I cant get past the swipe lock screen because the screen doesnt respond. I was however able to boot into CWM and backup to the ext SD card.
Anyway she filed a claim with Asurion, said she lost it, and theyre sending a new one Monday. Since she didnt actually lose the phone I still have her SD card, SIM and battery. Here are my Q's... Thanks in advance.
1. Any idea what version the replacement phone might ship with?
2. Since I havent rooted since the release day what the best method to use for the version they will send? I used route66 but im not sure if thats even around anymore.
3. I was able to make a back up on the SD card. Can I restore that back up on the new phone from the sd card after i root and unlock?
4. Do I have to back up the SD card contents and reformat the SD card to use in the new phone?
5. What, if anything, can be done the old SIM card?
Very lucky I have a place like XDA where I can ask questions like this. XDA has been so helpful to me the last few years. Thanks to everyone who can help. My gf and I really appreciate it.

1) VRALHE, easily rooted with the existing exploits.
2) See above.
3) Uh, honestly not sure about this. I'm interested to see others response.
4) Shouldn't have to since you'll be using the same rom
5) If the sim is fine, just pop it into the new phone.

Don't use the old phone parts except the sdcard for anything. You lost the phone so if you use the one SIM then they're going to know you committed fraud. Same if you try to use the old phone.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong?
As for restoring the backup. Yes you can simply restore the backup and it week be just fine. I did it on my RAZR when I got a max and when I got a replacement max.

Awesome guys thanks! Not going to use the old SIM at all, I figured not to. If I can restore the Rom from the SD card on the new phone my life will be so much better lol. Very much appreciated.
Just wanted to update. First off thanks to everyone, my gf is very thankful.
I can confirm restoring from the old phone on to the new one worked perfectly along with the root method. Thanks so much guys.

Hi basic question regarding my internal sdcard.
Im having an issue and was told I should format my sdcard (I dont have an external sd).
I hooked my phone up via USB and opened it with windows explorer. I see my device and see "Internal Storage", which contains every folder within it. I dont see something specific for "sdcard" and Im unsure how to find it. Is the entire "Internal Storage" folder what Im looking for? Is that what I should completely back up on pc, format and then repopulate? Im nervous about bricking the phone so want to confirm this...
Thanks.
The internal memory is the sd card referred to. You will lose all of your data.

Thanks for the reply. So if I first copy every folder here onto my PC, format it and then put all those folders back, should I expect the phone to restart without any problem and everything fully intact?

thanks really appreciate this guidance.
i know it seems obvious, but doing it your first time is scary so its really helpful to get affirmation that my understanding of what may seem basic and obvious is correct
Haha I know that feeling, first time I tried to root a phone I almost bricked it probably one of my scariest moments. YouTube helps a lot, there's plenty of step by step guides on how to do pretty much everything to your phone.

I'm trying to find out how you guys manage without a sdcard...do you carry a otg cable and usb stick always with you... Just asking if I should trade in my HTC ONE M8...for a OpP...Can you please explain....
I use air droid / es file manager to access file wireless.
I'm talking about your nandroids backups...and personal stuff incase I wanted to change roms.... My SdCard holds all my personal stuff and when I flash other roms to test ....my sdcard does not get touched...
^^ the one plus one has a "virtual" SDcard... which all data stays perstiant on between flashing...IIRC
So your saying is that this Virtual SDCard...uses up the 64gig that the unit comes with.???
not all 64...looking at my phone it says 54gb total
64 - UsedBySystem = More than enough
For Nandroid backups I use a USB Stick and then store it on the server, for pictures or so I use Airdroid.
Ok guys thanks...now the question...do I trade..my M8..to 1+1... Or wait for 1+2..

As previously stated, your personal data is never wiped unless you actually do it yourself, this is standard for any device that doesn't use an external sd card. The 64gb overall storage is partitioned in such a way that you end up with about 55gb for yourself, with the rest taken up by the ROM and other system needs. And yes, I'd ditch the HTC for this phone in a heartbeat.

Thanks needed that extra explanation...
Now to trade up thanks

Like everyone else stated, your files will remain untouched while flashing a new rom (unless and until u manually wipe them from recovery). I keep my nandroid on my phone itself, but i actually prefer having my OTG pendrive along with me all the time. i have made a backup of all my important files on it as well. reg jumping from M8 to the One, 1+2 is still some time away from us (late Q2 or maybe Q3 of 2015), so 1+1 is still your best bet. I had a nexus 5, sold it off to get 1+1. no regrets! heck, the lollipop roms here are as stable as the nexus 5 ones.
I had the S4, then M8, then nexus 5 (16gb). Didn't have the nexus that long, and sort of missed having the extra storage. But didn't miss the SD card coming to OPO as theres plenty with the 64gb version. If anything I'm more put off by 16 GB phone models even with the sd card. The nexus isn't too bad as it's pretty bloat free but with the 16gb S4 or M8 I was still mindful of the internal storage as you lose a fair amount for the OS and you can't move all apps to the SD. Hopefully manufacturers ditch the 16gb models soon. Even a 32gb model with and external SD would be fine, but 16gb feels a bit stingey these days.

Absolutely. My last device was the 16gb HTC One XL and in reality you only end up with under 10gb user-accessible space, which gets used up pretty quickly.
Hey guys so here's the scenario:
I did record an audio and I forgot to back it up. Now i formatted the phone and changed to other ROM. I really need that audio for my project. Is there anyway to recover it?
Sorry, it's really unlikely at this point. But it doesn't hurt to try.
Your best bet for recovering from internal storage is an app DiskDigger. You'll need the pro version since you're looking for an audio file and the phone needs to be rooted.
PhotoRec works well for recovering from an SD card. There a write up here.

Thanks for the response. Yeah i tried disk digger pro. I chose and selected 'data'. But no luck. I used the app easy recorder and since it saves .wav files and what i recovered from disk digger is the same. I sorted the files by size and the highest kb is 500 which is impossible to be my recording since it is 9 mins long. It's hopeless I guess?
I think it's gone. Sorry.
