Mm the would involve too much work for some developers and most likely I a lot stuff broken your best bet is to see if you can get a launcher like it, what stuff do you like about it?

Sprint has it right. Most people can't stand motocrap. I had an Atrix and not even tegra could save that POS.

How about touchwiz? Galaxy S I9000 and Nexus S are very alike. Its not about the launcher or "bloatware", that can easily be removed and replaced, I need their hardware acceleration in browser!
I've seen some topics about it, but no update since months.

Anyone else notice something funny?

Now that Verizon is supposed to be getting the "amazing" iPhone it seems that at&t really is stepping their game up in their lineup of android devices. Wish I would have waited a little longer haha.

I will be buying the atrix off contract at release been saving my pennies for a while and now I have something to want.
Atrix seems great, but it could take a while to root. Every carrier and manufacturer has their problems IMO.
The Atrix does seem good, but i want to see a nice HTC device on AT&T. I've heard we might be getting the Desire HD.

Personally... im not really impressed with the HTC Inspire 4G... Will be a while before i can afford to upgrade off contract, so for me, ill just wait and see what other candy is available in the coming months
as much as the captivate sucks. we are still like the nexus s which means we might get a fully working cm7 sense the software is so bad.

I love every htc ive had, just the inspire, spec wise doesn't seem to be much better then mine now. Think I prefer hummingbird with it's gaming support over snapdragon. At least moto seems to be stepping its game up. But I am also worried about locked boot loader. Wish htc would come out with a similar device. Agreed.
I would give it a few months to see if the Atrix has any issues and how easy it is to root/put custom roms on.
I mean look at the Captivate, aside from some phones having GPS problems and small issues it really is a great phone.
And if ya look at the Atrix, hell the CPU might just break once maximized to the full potential. You NEVER know!

I can guarantee that the Rep doesn't have access to that information. At&t gives reps very limited info on future releases. Besides they're always testing new devices and they're deffinitely keeping an eye on the competition. With that said, if a manufacturer plans on launching a device that Att wants they will do everything they can to add it to their lineup.

Why is AT&T rolling out so many 4g units? Isn't their 4g network still about two years away? If so, these units will be obsolete before you can take full advantage of their capabilities.

Next Phone?

The Captivate community here on XDA is nothing but awesome. So, I'm asking everyone: where are you going next? Will you be switching to Motorola and the Atrix 4G? Sticking it out with Samsung and the Infuse 4G? Maybe an Inspire 4G?
Please vote in the poll. I'm interested in seeing where Captivate owners are planning to head in the next couple of months.
PSA: Atrix 4G Pre-orders are LIVE! Only $399 off-contract with $100 discount!
I don't know because I have over a year on my contract. By that time who knows where we will be. I do think next time I get a phone it will be after its been out for a while. If it were the next couple months I think it would be the atrix.
This is my captivate. There are many like it buy this one is mine.

The Atrix is going where I've wanted to be for a while. If my phone is as powerful as a laptop, why have two separate devices? I'm a bit upset about the Infuse because it's what the Galaxy S line should have been. That all being said, I'll probably cave for the Infuse because of the "flashability" and brilliant screen.

Most people would disagree about your statement on the Galaxy S supposed to have been like the Infuse. I like a 4" screen and beyond that the Infuse really does not make much of an impact. The bad thing about the Galaxy S is Samsung not releasing source code.
I have 2yrs left on my contract so by that time phones will be installed into our brains
I despise Motorola phones, so I'm not touching those.
Samsung has been reliable, I'm not sure that I'd want to deal with the Captivate's jank anymore, and I don't trust Samsung to provide updates especially if they're corrupted with TouchWiz.
I love using HTC phones and their spec sheets and feel just seem so refined.
Alas, I'll probably defect from ATT. They've thrown too much crap into my face over the past 6 years. My employer can foot for my business phone, its service is far too unreliable for me. I'm probably going to Verizon.

I am a fan of the Infuse's front facing camera, 8 mp main camera with flash and moderately improved processor. When the Captivate was released, it was competing with the Evo and Iphone 4, both of which had better specs (on paper). I worry that AT&T will cripple the Infuse as they did the Captivate and take away it's competitive features to conserve network bandwidth. Plus I'll need evidence that the GPS works on the Infuse ;-)

You get me.
I think most ppl expectation of the Atrix is too high, unless you plan on running it stock.
And for those dead set on getting it, be prepared for a big change when it comes to Motorola development section, not much happening there compared to Samsung section.
I will wait about a month or so after release before buying 2 of the units in the poll (off-contract). I've learned that having patience on buying any electronic device that is first introduce can save you alot of headaches.
Well, I don't really have a manufacturer preference and I don't buy phones as an update, ie, not locked into 2 more years so I shop around different carrier phones. Actually though I get a great ATT plan through work so I'm not leaving, still using original iPhone unlimited data plan.
That said, I got my wife the HTC HD2 and about 2 weeks ago loaded the NAND version of Cyanogen. I must say if there is a newer version of the HD2 that runs Android, and works with ATT 3g in about a year or so i will be all over it. That is actually quite an awesome phone and if it worked with ATT 3g I might actually trade her.
I'm betting MWC doesn't bring AT&T much. Perhaps the second Galaxy S, but I'm thinking it will launch in several months, like the Captivate did.
MWC - February 2010 - Announcement of Galaxy S GT-I9000
Captivate announced - late June 2010
Captivate released - July 2010
The Atrix is looking at a possible March launch. So, it'll probably be a few months ahead of the Galaxy S2.
After dealing with Samsung's lack of updates, GPS problems, shut down problems, I'm personally inclined to give Motorola a shot with the Atrix. Let's hope there is an unlocked bootloader.

LOL, i'm sure he meant porting the software over our vibes and then installing a compatible 4G modem just as we've installed a i9000 cam.
I'm just curious of the cam part, if it's an actual i9000 cam or something different. If the hardware is different, then i'd find out where it came from and what not's. I've also heard that rumor has it, the handset used in the MWC, they tested the banding issues and it has NONE, whatsoever. But... It's a rumor. No credibility.
Check out anandtech for the preliminary galaxy s2 benchmarks. For some reason the tegra 2 gpu and cpu wise score higher...
Maybe the drivers just are finalized.

No word yet on whether it will be released to the US or not.
As for being to be with TMO, no word. BUT, i did find out that the international version that will come out on 3rd Qrtr of this year in Europe IS compatible to the AT&T and Canada Bell's Band. Someone from AT&T can just purchase these baby and stick their sim's in, and BAM. They can use it right out of the box.
But i'm not about to switch to AT&T, well, not yet at least. LOL

It is not necessarily a hardware issue, a lot of phone out there are going to be converted via software only, and I suspect the Vibrant is one of those. Either way I am waiting for the S2......... my point is that taking the modem software from 850 mhz to 700 mhz or 2100 to 2200mhz does not require new hardware..........
just software
for about 40 bucks we can have the exact same phone... wow so much of a change (sarcasm). would like to see 4g though and i wonder if the back would fit on our phones cus i want to get one
I will be getting a sgs4g on release day due to my girlfriend wanting my vibrant... so I am adding a line for her getting the sgs4g and giving here my vibrant (its what she wants lol) so by the time the sgs2 comes out i will have an upgrade on my line. everyone wins.

The big deal is that it should be the first device to launch with Ice Cream Sandwich, and being a nexus devcie pure vanilla android os, all other specs/features are rumoured through leaked documents and "reliable sources who cannot be named" but sound promising!
I hope there's an ATT compatible version, cause I'll take it over moving to GSII.

I personally call BS on "Droid Prime" I don't think Google would allow Verizon to rename their own Flagship device. It has been "Nexus" One/S/should be Prime. But well have to wait and see on that... I will be devastated.

Crap? It is a completely modern phone, I need to look at the processor specs to see if the gpu is up to part with other new phones but I know the omap4 chips are no slouch. I don't know how they truly compare to the Samsung and Qualcomm processors which each have strong point in different areas but it has to be better than the Tegra2 powered phones by a long shot. Also at 9mm thick with the curved ergonomic that will be at least and resolution there is nothing about it that isn't up to par with the competition. Remember without am adequate lens mega pixels are just a waist of space
The only reason I haven't gotten the SGS2 is because I'm waiting to see if the Prime is on AT&T, if it's going to be a Verizon exclusive, then that's just going to be retarded that Google would let them rename their phone + probably load it with bloatware.
It won't happened, all these rumors are from Verizon users who just can't accept the fact that they never get the Prime, believe me, Google wouldn't sell out (at least I hope not.)

New Phone, Help Me Choose.

Hey guys, I'm getting a new phone this January 11. Should I wait for the Galaxy Nexus, or get the HTC EVO 3D, I've always liked Sense, and I don't want that to change, but I also like a nice screen on my phone. Not sure what to do . Suggestions are appreciated.
My personal choice would be The Galaxy Nexus.
Major reasoning behind this: LTE Service (most likely).
With WiMax being halfway abandoned this will future-proof you with getting the Nexus.
Also the Nexus has 4.0 out of the box, HD 4.65 in screen, and all those specs im sure you know about.
But the only reason id stick with getting the 3D is if you need a new phone now, or if you REALLY need Sense.

Why do you keep telling people that the shift will turn LTE? LTE requires special hardware in the device. The evo shift is a great device and has a lot of development support. Sprint has already told me personally that will will keep wimax for the devices that need it...There is no devices that have LTE for sprint yet.

I think you might have read his post wrong. When he stated about LTE he was talking about his first sentence about the Nexus
I think I will just wait. My phone is like my wallet, I wont trade it for anything no matter what, after a while you grow fond of it. I was only tired of slow development. But so what we have what everyone else has, just not ****load of variety.
Aw ok, well from what Sprint told me, don't hold me to it lol, LTE was in discussion at the moment and they said it could take quite a long time to get it rolling out on any types of devices. So I wouldn't bet that any of the new phones will get it quite yet. Guess we'll just have to wait and see

Neither.
Wait for the Evo Shift 2 or something similar. If you are as dependent on a hardware keyboard as I am you will hate both phones.
Well this is directly from Sprint.

Yes, I saw. It's on the front page of sprint.com. Make sure you are signed out of account management to see it. The LG Viper looks like a pile of junk.

One can only hope for a Evo Shift 2 lol. I love the hardware keyboard and i miss mine :/ I don't feel like getting it fixed and re-rooting my phone even though with the scripts and everything to make it easy, I just love the fact i can overclock to 2.0 ghz with no problems

This is exactly why I am in no rush to upgrade to any phone right now unless Sprint suddenly got the Droid 4.

I was just thinking the same thing. The droid 4 looks pretty damn good and if sprint gets it i might jump to it but i just love htc. My past 4 phones have been from them (most windows, this is my first android phone)

Us cellular carries the evo shift 2... Its pretty much the evo design but with a keyboard... I can't think of it's name...

Looking at it, it looks like a bigger (screen) shift... Has the same (or damn near identical) processor... I, personally will be waiting til next year... Quad cores will be the big hoo rah! making very nice dual cores very affordable... But! We shall see!
P.s. sorry for the ****ty link... Tapa talk sucks... Lol
