hei. i just read an article on gsmarena about htc cha cha on sale.. It runs android 2.4.. what is android 2.4 and how come we're not the first to get T_T.. I read an article 2.4 is still gingerbread with bug fixes and i don't hear a thing about NS update to 2.4...
edit : after some googling and reading.. here's another article i've found.. Might be HTC own naming it 2.4 >"<... sigh in relief and disappointment in one >"<..
You have to understand that the people who write and edit for these blogs typically don't know what they are talking about. The write incomprehensible jibberish and publish it to take advantage of the fact that eager Android enthusiasts will click on their articles so they can sell ads for their sites.
yes... it seems the source of article (HTC goes on sale on UK) mistakenly put numbers become 2.4.. When i check again now it has changed to 2.3.. so much for miss-type ==
Maybe they meant 2.3.4...

has anyone tried it? I heard there is a lot of issues with this ROM.
There has been a lot of discussion about this ROM over on the Australian Whirlpool forums. The two main threads about it are:
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1559066
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1564427
While there is some technical discussion about the ROM's inner workings, much of it is usability and UI related (as well as the people having issues installing, etc)
My main question is whether the ROM is rootable or not. I suspect given the new bootloader it might not be. Has anyone here got any thoughts on it?
According to one of the other users there it is:
BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNW0101
RADIO-5.11.05.14

Well if it's just the bootloader that makes it rootable or not, I have the latest 2.13 Asia WWE ROM that came with 0.93.001 bootloader and that was rooted just fine.
I wonder how talking about "rooting" your phone goes down on the whirlpool forums, as "to root" is a popular slang term for f*cking in aus and they all tend to giggle like little girls when people use the word in any other context.

hehehehe *homer giggle*
I've installed this - I didn't directly use the RUU to install, instead I ran the RUU, grabbed the rom.zip from from %TEMP% and rooted it with dsixda's kitchen.
I was going to make a custom ROM based on it but I abandoned my efforts when I found a Telstra customisation I didn't like in the SMS app (there's an extra button at the top of the main screen). Could probably have removed that but it made me suspect that there might be other changes.

I love being Australian. But seriously, they could've come up with a better term right? Like, jailbreaking sounds stupid enough, but rooting?!?!

To allow/access root privileges, what would you call it?

Root is the administrator account in Unix/Linux systems. Therefore gaining access to the privileges held by this account is called rooting. I'm an Aussie too.. but this is a logical description of the process to me.
I love rooting! Ummm... I mean gaining access to the root account! 8-P

maybe '777' as in chmod 777 ... or maybe "slashing" as in '/' but that's also slang for urinating or having a piss
I open this petition to collect more "YES" possible so that HTC will unlock Sensation's boot lader.
SO, COME ON, VOTE YES!!! IMPORTANT: THIS PETITION WILL BE SENT TO HTC!

This is a petition http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petition. You have have to vote yes and if do you want (not required) reply in the thread, btw thank you to vote "YES".
Yes

Yes unlock Sensation Bootloader.
yes unlock bootloader... but this will not help... what will really make htc unlock their bootloader is if we boycott them and say we will not buy the sensation at all if its locked and convince others not to buy it... but its a longshot so i vote yes
Ofcourse Yes!
Yes unlockable.

Remeber the petion made for the ATI drivers? absolutely no use!!

And that was for phones already sold & HTC was still in its beginings as the "HTC" brand outside the umberella.

I doubt this is the best way to make a petition. Can't we make a petition on Petitiononline.com or something? We would reach a wider audience and get more signatures. We could send it to Android and tech related websites for people to sign. So we can make a more powerful statement to HTC and maybe also Motorola that the public wants to have the choice to do whatever they want with their devices.

Agreed, but the threads in this Sensation section aren't getting many hits. I'd say ask moderators for a petition on the homepage or something that catches more eyes than here.
But great idea, I was waiting for someone to start a petition. Keep up the good work! Let's maximize the potential of this petition!
I agree that the use of a petition web site outside of XDA would be useful. Not everyone who would want to vote is a registered XDA member and I'm not the type of person to be inclined to register somewhere just to cast a vote.
Now, if you were to use something like Facebook... I'm sure you'll get more votes there. Plus, other web sites probably wouldn't have a problem linking to it from their web sites (Android Central, Phandroid, Engadget, etc.).

I asked moderators to make an article in fisrt page, hope they accept...
wont buy a locked sensation
this device sounds like the promise of the year,
but i wont think about buying it till i see the development threads filling with custom ROMs .
i love HTC hardware , but i hate the sense !!!!! and although the sense3 looks better it will still be far behind Cyanogen mods, performance wise .
and as a HERO owner ( hopping soon to be ex ) i know how HTC neglects the old devices . had 1.5, HTC promised 1.6 and then they promised 2.0, and finally when i got 2.1, everyone already had froyo. ahh
I dont want to see their stupid flipclock weather thing ever again
bottom line is:
only when HTC sensation will run CM7 ill buy it..
Why is it locked in the first place? Noobs won't know what bootloader is and so won't be messing up their phones and people like us who mod our phones know what we are doing (or at least think we do) and so won't mess up our phones anyway... Having it unlocked just saves us the time of having to hack it to unlock. Really don't see what they achieve??!?
116 (yes) is better than 5 (not) but I want to know who voted not?
If you don't like Sensation just don't vote... (samsung fans)...

*** LIMITED PUBLIC BETA ***
This is a limited public beta to begin testing for stability and lack of brick creation.
If you would like to participate in this early and extremely risky round of testing
please download the applicable binary for your operating system and join irc.freenode.net/#alpharevx
to request a beta key for your device.
Please note that this beta-round could be withdrawn at any moment if safety concerns arise (e.g. bricks).
The beta key mechanism is there to protect users from bricking their devices if there are bugs present.
I also posted it in the Incredible S and Wildfire forums at the same time time so 2 out of 3 ain't bad
Considering that this is an early beta release that doesn't currently even support our device and that there is no current ETA, perhaps you should consider changing this threads incredibly positive and therefore misleading title to something more honest so as not to get peoples hopes up unnecessarily.
or try to get the moderator to add this threads content to the other related thread, which is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118142

When I first edited the post I couln't edit the title, Ive realised now that you need to go in Advanced to do this so its done now.
And as for the attitude. I changed the post as soon as I realised.
I read on here today that someone had spoken to those behind Alpharev and the Desire S was said to be supported.
So as soon as I saw the beta was up and that it was for a very limited time I came straight here with the news, maybe next time I;ll keep it to myself in case I make a human error.
We can't all be perfect
Attitude? Your the one name calling.
Don't take it so personally, I only suggested that you altered the posts title.
Which I see you've now done.

i think they will release it for the desire S after this current version is confirmed reliable for the incredible S as they did not test the DS in their closed beta & so they may not want to risk our precious DS (or atleast i hope so)
I'm finally tired of waiting. XTC Clip, here i come !!!!!!!
Changed title to Desire S not supported yet
Hi
This is my first thread yay! I was reading myself into rooting and stuff because some of my colleagues also rooted their samsungs.
Now i have a CHACHA and i was curious for CM7, but i find out it is not released for my phone (yet)?
Is there some topic where i can follow the development of CM7 for HTC CHACHA? Will it ever come or not?
Another thing, it seems i need the XTC clip for S-OFF my phone, any stores in holland known that sells those clips? Else can i buy it from someone since i think 50 euro's for unlocking a phone is a bit much.
is already a version for chachacha CM7?
I don't believe there is CM7 for HTC CHACHA. I am wondering if there will be a CM7.
Can someone update me if people are busy on it? Maybe the phone is not interesting enough?
Please let met know, i cant seem to find it.
Care to use the search-function?

Don't pay 50, not more than 15. Actually there is no other way to make s-off(and routing)
Look for a local forum (in Holland) treating with HTC products. For sure there you will find a topic speaking about xtc clip in your country. Or.. use Google.

Ok selling my phone to Mikevhl so he can develope for the HTC ChaCha, i will buy a new HTC ChaCha no problem
Just had a chat with Mikevhl, and he told me he is not gonna buy my ChaCha, that means he is not developing CM7 for the ChaCha, due to not enough interest if i am right.

I'm not sure this is true... he said he already bought a XTC Clip. I remember he saying that he would stop porting because someone was already doing, but the other guy said he didn't have time. Well, I hope Mikevhl is thinking in coming back
Sorry, i was a bit mistaken Mikevhl told me he stopped because he was low on cash (don't spend money if you don't have too) + other dev where working on htc chacha CM7 mod. Now i read that other dev stopped working on it so i pm-ed mike whatsup

its hardly old news since it happend TODAY.
Sorry but thats a random thread with a stupid name,im supposed to just magically know theres a post mentioning it in there?
I searched it came up with nothing so I posted it because there is no thread about it.
People are not going to find a random post in an unreleated thread.this is news in its own right so it gets its own post.
Sorry for this. I'm kind of gaga today. That wasnt nice .
Two possibilities - DHD update cancelled for the Telus carrier, or the update cancelled for ALL DHD models. None of these should affect the Desire S or Incredible S. We already have ROM leaks. There is no way in hell HTC would release the updates in China and not the rest of the world. We'll get the update, I'm 100% sure. (and seeing that you're from O2 Germany, you may be among the first to get it )
Thats about Desire HD not Desire S....lets keep it Desire S talk in here guys...least in terms of worrying if X is going to happen in the future...
