If your lookomg for themes we do have a section for that. As for the non markets apps you need a file manager and a quick google search for how to do such

You can install different roms, I think that's what you mean. Head on over to http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=883 for further information.
As long as those none market apps arent pirated.im ok with it.though i dont see why youd want those none market apps.
As for being developers apps.you wouldnt even be asking such questions

Hi,
I am planning to buy htc wildfire.I have lot of apps for htc desire and htc hero. will all those application work on wildfire. Cuz i am concerened about the different screen size...Please clarify me...Thanks..
hi ashnu_tnj ,
as far as i am corncerned ..
it depends on few other factors than just screen size..!!
for your info... i have ...
htc hd ( blackstone )..running windows stock ..6.1
with " xdandroid" /android on storage card....!!
this is running..froyo/ android 2.2 ..
so i have a bit of "feeling"/knowlegde of what is better..on android .. now..!!
just remember ..
htc wildfire has eclair 2.1..???
remember ..htc hero runs on android 1.5 cupcake..?
is the " applications" compatible with android 2.1..etc etc..??
thus , also remember you cant install applications on storage card.. with ...eclair 2.1 " ?
further ...
i have installed most applications and games from market place and never had screen size issues ..(so i don't even think this is an issue..!!! )
first of all it is easier to install from market place..plus lots of applications is free..so why worry..?
second depends if those applications you got... need "root" permission ...super user status ....etc.etc
my advice ..it is faster easier and less hassles...
downloading from market place..!!!!
otherwise ....
try to install those applications ".apk " files and see what happens.... you got nothing to lose..?
if it does not work go to... market place..!!
enjoy your " htc wildfire"..!!!!
good luck

Hi all ,
As the title says I have a Desire S on it's way and should be here tomorrow and I have a couple of questions .
1,
What's the best way to transfer the contacts and calendar from my current phone to the Desire S ?
Is it best to set up Google Sync on my Windows Mobile and use that to sync between both phones ? or is there a better way ?
I am currently using a HTC HD Mini .
2,
What's the best SatNav program for the Desire S , using offline maps ( Saved to memory card )
I am using TomTom at the moment on my HD Mini and it works perfectly .
It's my first Android phone and any guides / tips are most welcome.
My last few phones werea all Windows Mobile .
Thanks in advance .
Hi!
1.) Congrats
2.)The easiest way is certainly through google, Going from asus P750 I remember some programs to transfer data across platforms, but it was not very reliable (national characters lost etc...)
3.) I'm currently using iGo which I used on WM too, but sadly iGo can not be purchased normally for Android, it's a company solution only... so unless you want to .... iGo, I'd recommend Sygic or something similar...
4.) Wait for the phone to arrive to raize questions, I'm sure you'll have many
Thanks for the reply ,
It turned out to be easy to get my contacts and calendar from my HD Mini to the Desire S .
I set up a gmail account , and used ActiveSync on the HD Mini to sync to the gmail account .
When I turned on the Desire S for the first time and entered the gmail account details , it downloaded all my contacts .
Love the phone so far , I'm still finding my way around Android...
Same with me, i'll get my Desire S this Sunday. Before i use Samsung Galaxy Ace.
i've several question
1. If i get s-on, may be it not possible to root it atm. so my question how i can remove advertisement in some app? (last time i used adfree but i know it only work for rooted phone)
2. Where i can found flashing tools and firmware for this device? (last time samfirmware give me all of this for samsung)
Thanks before
1. u can't
2. look at the desire s android development forum, there is a thread with the OEM roms
For the of-line Navigation, I don't know which is best, just to avoid the included HTC Locations. I paid for a full perpetual licence, it refused to work and Route 66 refused to refund me.
However, I can certainly help you with some tips! I have done a beginner's guide on this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097538
Here you can download my tips and suggestions in .pdf format. I updated it yesterday.
There should be at least a couple of helpful bits in there for you!
Looking through the threads, it seems there are only two options available for a device similar to the ipod touch: Samsung Galaxy Wifi and Dell Streak 7. Now, the problem with the Samsung is that it is not available in America as far as I can tell. The Dell Streak seems too large for what I want, which is something that I can just leave in my pocket and not care if it gets banged up or not.
The smaller Arcos Gen 8 products seem to be more what I'm looking for: small, cheap android alternatives to an Ipod Touch. Unfortunately, from what I've read, they do not have access to the Android app store, which leaves them without any of Google's products and many other useful things I would want.
This leads me to my other questions about Android in general. What I'm looking to do is treat my Android device exactly as I do my Windows computer, where I can just browse the internet for applications, download whatever I want, and then simply install it to the device.
Is this possible to do on Android? Is it even necessary to have access to the App Store? Can I just go to the application's homepage, download the .apk file, and install it to my device? Do I need root access to be able to do this?
I wouldn't mind having a stripped down Arcos device if I could still get all the applications I want and just use it like I do my computer, but with all the variations on the Android OS I'm not sure if this is possible or not.
I apologize for the mess of questions. I guess what I want is whatever would be the closest
experience to just using my Windows PC on a small, cheap, Ipod Touch-like device.
You can install the apks without the Android Market, but most of them aren't available on the internet in legal ways. On the android market site you can't download the apk nor on any other site (like:appbeain) so you have to look on the developer's site or search a torrent
For you first question Samsung has two alternatives for the ipod, the Galaxy S 4 WiFi and the Galaxy S 5 WiFi. The difference is only in the screen size, the first is 4" which isn't too big (for me). I don't know if they're already available, but I think it worths to wait for them

The Samsung devices looked good but there doesn't seem to be a date for release here (America). The other problem is that I've read quite a bit how Samsung is notoriously bad for providing updates. Since Android is evolving rather quickly with new features being added all the time, receiving timely updates is of utmost importance to me. I guess then I will have no other choice than to root? (Assuming a root is even available and roms can be loaded)
I just wish Google could provide their version of Android on their website to download (it is opensource after all isn't it?) so that when I got my device, I could just replace the out of date Android version with Google's recent build. I don't understand why this couldn't be possible?
The main problem is that the phone's hardwares are different so the manufacturer have to create the apropriate drivers + a few of them has costum launchers like Sense or TouchWiz and these have to be updated too

:good:
I'm not sure if this is the right section so sorry if its wrong.
I have an android phone ( HTC aria rooted and cm7), switched from a blackberry. Now my girlfriend has a windows phone 7 ( Samsung focus ,stock) . I had a few apps on my bberry that I cann't get on my Droid. Also looking through the windows market place I seen a few apps I'd like ( I've already installed them on her's) .
So here's my question is it possible to mod the packages so I could run them on my android?

Hi .. please where I can download Twitter_1.5.0.xap, facebook_2.8.0.xap and Whatsapp_2.8.10.xap, because I can not install from the marked on my HTC HD2 with ROM Windows Phone 7.8
I need to install this programs on my HD2 with USB.
I don't think this is possible. Even if you have XAP files, you have to reinstall them every half a year, because apps installed from Visual Studio are time limited.
I don't think it's possible/efficient because AFAIK you can't connect using older versions of apps. Just ask for a working market won't you?

Hi :good:Thanks for answering me. I install the old version of facebook and works well. But not so with the old whatsapp. I searched with Google a long time but could not find the new versions. With Android never had this problem, searching the web you can find any of the marked application without problem. So far I have not found any updated applications on the web for download to my pc.

Hi Sunny.. I now use the old Facebook 1.0.0 application from Microsoft on my HD2 and it works great, despite being old works well, but what I want is to have my Windows Phone 7.8 with the latest software of Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter.
I can not install programs directly from the market because my WP HD2 I can not activate the Windows Live account.
I need activation WP with my Windows Live account.
I am an expert in making changes to my HD2 ROM :fingers-crossed:. I use Android since I bought my phone, but now I want to experiment with WP. These three programs are the basis for daily use of a smartphone.
