For those of you who have rooted, we learned today that for the time being, you won't be able to utilize the movie rental service that Google unveiled earlier this month. When attempting to rent a movie from the Android Market on a rooted device, you will be greeted with the message, Failed to fetch license for [movie title] (error 49). This is due to requirements related to copyright protection.

Same here, although its good to know if I ever unroot and cancel my Netflix subscription for whatever reason I'll have the choice of renting from the market. Kudos to Google!

Oh Well... Netflix is great. I am not going to unroot to be able to rent a movie.
Not a chance that I'm unrooting so that I can pay ludicrous prices to have a one day rental that can only be watched on my phone.

Agreed. The price for one movie is almost 5 dollars. I wouldn't rent a movie even if I wasn't rooted.
Sent from my demonSPEED Glacier using XDA Premium App
But I don't think this is a swing at rooted users by Google, they fully support the hacking and modding community. It's just the dang verification by the movie companies. (What difference does it make if it will otherwise work on all phones?)

My thoughts exactly...When I heard of the rental service I thought it may be a cool feature, but then I looked at the prices and never thought twice. Who would ever pay $5 for a phone only 24hr rental when you can Redbox something for $1 and have it on a nice bigscreen at home? I'm sure there has to be a market someplace or they wouldn't roll the service out to begin with, but I'm certainly not part of it lol.
Makes sense why Google did that but it still sucks ass.

So I've been tweaking out about this damn phone and finally called Best Buy. I was told very firmly "Pre-orders are being accepted tomorrow (Sunday) for $50, first come first serve, and the phone is scheduled to be released on Valentines Day".
No bull****, I didn't have to play dumb, just simply asked if I could come in and buy the Thunderbolt tomorrow.
So Best Buy is clearly rolling hard on their own with this phone while VZW is hush hush. Clearly it's possible it could be pushed back, but at the very least pre orders will be starting tomorrow. Which is pretty dope.
See y'all at Best Buy.

"First come, first serve" - Makes no sense on a pre-order. Your not getting anything tomorrow...they are PRE ordering yours. So, you definitely will get one if you pre-order.
I think they only can receive a certain amount of them so it seems to make sense.

Eh, I'm waiting till Verizon has it, i asked BestBuy if they did 1 year contracts or full retail price if you can't upgrade and the answer to both was nope.
i did confirm though that they do have accessories already on sale, like the ones leaked on AndroidCentral by Platinum Series (aka Seidio)
also, don't go by any handset reviews until after HTC's MWC event, i have a feeling some features are hidden to preview blogs until its announced, namely the Htcsense.com features which are currently not working on preview handsets. Pocketnow seems to be having similiar problems with the Inspire 4G saying that it doesn't have access to download anything from the website hub. i think its because:
1. The website isn't fully launched yet nor does it have either of these phones as supported phones on the website, Yet.
2. HTC is likely to launch the new website on the 13th, the same date as the launch of Inspire and there event at MWC where its likely they'll announce new features for the website too (one can only dream anyway, if you recall the teasers in December early November they were touting regarding music and video support via the cloud, aka Htcsense.com which was later confirmed as an upcoming feature. and with Verizon touting media playback as a feature for LTE handsets, alongside of Netflix and other media features via LTE.
We can only hope that the launch event is soon and that the Thunderbolt gets a proper launch, they screwed up on the Droid Incredible launch and didn't support it at all, so i hope since this being there first 4G phone that we'll see huge support from Verizon and third parties.

Yes but you will be given two giftcards, because the first can only be pre-loaded with 50 dollars with the sku they scan.
Also most all phones can be sold outright. But during a phones initial launch best buy reserves the right to sell phones only to customers do upgrades/new activations. That's why I told people to confirm with the store they bought from as if they can buy it out right.
i have a thunderbolt in essentially new condition that i want to sell, but only really know of ebay. have people used other services that they could recommend? or if you know of any sites where people barter for other electronics that would be great too
Use the marketplace here its free to use with far less hassle than ebay. I've sold 2 phones here my g2 and nexus one and both were successful, easy and smooth transactions!
you can also try swappa.com they charge you $10 but the service is great I've used it several times to buy and sell phones.
Ebay always has been best for me, good prices and quick sales

Wow - I hope people aren't getting robbed! Meet at a Verizon store, not in a back alley in the worst possible part of town. Done many a transaction via Craigslist, never once had any issues and I usually sell within a day or 2 and get the amount I am looking for.
So I went to a few stores today that sells att phones. I asked everyone in all 5 of the stores about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note LTE, noone even knew about it as if it will be coming out 6 years from now -.- noone knew there was one even coming out let alone the name :/ it kind of makes me sad when the consumer knows more then the sales reps. They should train more in my opinion this was just my little experiance for the day just thought I'd share. Anyone else looking forward to the note lte for att?

In-store reps definitely don't know anything. Most reps aren't like us and simply don't care. I usually come across some reps who give out good information about upcoming devices. These reps are always over the phone as they have quick access to the database. Try calling about a general question, talk to them for a bit, and when you're about to end the conversation, pop the question.

Ive sold phones for five years in three locations. I can tell you most of us know about phones as soon as they are rumors. As someone said earlier if we don't sell it we really don't care. To be honest if someone asked me about the note I would kinda just try to end it fast unless we were doing pre orders as asking me about a phone I cant sell isn't making me commission. If it is slow though I will talk about announced upcoming phones for quite awhile. Also most consumers walk in and say i want android or iphone not asking specifics

That's understandable. Wouldn't it be better to actually care and inform a consumer of an upcoming device? By informing them of said device, they might wait for it and pay the $200 with the contract. I understand you want to make some money as well but I guess from a personal standpoint I would help the person that cares as much as I do.

They know me there and come at me quick because I don't just come in to buy a cheap pantech crossover I'm there with cash in hand and buy phones straight up xD so they are always willing to help. When I went in to buy my Sony xperia play 4g I handed her my iPhone to Bluetooth my contacts, she looked at my iPhone and her exact words were "what the F is this" it was running wp7 xD Haha but in all seriousness I think someone should be hired in the certain area. I agree. I've perused tablets in Best Buy and after engaging the nearest 'team member' for less than 3 minutes, I realize that I know more than they do.
It's the same experience when going to the auto parts store. There are some people who can carry on informed conversation, but 90% are the type who watch fast & furious movies in awe, and know nothing about repair or maintenance or they can only look up part numbers.
Basically, lower your expectations.
This is why I get mad when I've tried many times to get a job in those kind of places to no avail because I don't seem to have any big time qualifications to my record yet if I go into any outlet store and begin talking about phones, the sales rep looks at me like I'm making up things or shocked I know anything.

I have had similar experience with applying for jobs at auto parts stores. The 'now hiring' sign is displayed for several months and the staff changes about every 3 weeks, but I never get called. For a while there was an older woman who not only knew nothing about cars but she also needed help to use the computer program to look up parts.
I finally realized that these people will work for less money than I will because I actually know what I am doing. It really is sad that people with any level of technical or mechanical ability don't actually work at the retail level because they can't get enough money.
And don't get me started on the people who work at Home Depot . .
I have no past work experiance. I'm 19 years old have been the "bad" kid because I used to be a "black magic" hacker I've gotten introuble from schools best buys and targets because of it but now I'm past all that I do phones tablets anything mobile. There is never a time when I'm in best buy that I'm back in the computer/phone area and usually an older citizen is talking to a sales Rep about which one is better and the sales Rep says well product A is $1299 with 4gb ram touchscreen is way better then product B $899 8gb ram and so on but they go by the price as the sales Rep was walking her to the register I kindly walked up and said "hello ma'am I noticed you were interested in two different so-so" the sales Rep called the manager and had me kicked out for costing him the sale xD but they wont hire me? Most recently, I applied for a job repairing projectors. During the interview they kept asking me about how well I would transition to an office environment. Completely Ridiculous! I would be working in the workshop not the office and I happened to be better dressed than any of my interviewers.

I had no problem with them when I pre-ordered my Evo 4G, picked it up on launch day with no fuss. I'm not a fan of BB in general, but the instant rebate and the early pre-order date won me over the first time. Why not again? Plus, if they're still offering the $50 trade-in credit for my Evo 4G, that's a lot of reasons to walk through their doors.
Doent this concern the LTE version of the phone?
So it is the One-xl
Different forum for that.
So moving now
I'm going to move this thread as its not concerned with the HTC One XL. If the admins choose a combined solution, then we can move these back here at a later date. There are enough hardware and software differences that I believe this phone will have its own fora.

I like to order from bestbuy mobile because their insurance, although $2 more then Sprint, theres no copay if u ef up the phone. $100 copay through sprints insurion service. Also they have the buyback program which 22months from now, you sell it back and have enough for the next upgrade.Plus I get the upgrade through my number, they switch to my number right away. SPRINT makes u wait 30 days.
Exactly.

I went to the link and it says to submit your email to be notified when it's available. So am I missing something? Cause if I can pre order today in store I may end up doing that. But sprint's site does say pre order and get it before others get a glimpse.
For everyone who is preordering anyway, might as well do so through Target Mobile or Radioshack and save $50.
Proof for Target Mobile:

Okay, so dumb question regarding preorders (only phone I ever preordered was an iPhone for the wife)
is it possible to do a store pickup for these preorders? I'd love to save an extra $50, but all my parcel carriers require a signature, and given the fact that we actually work for a living, no one is ever home to sign.

It may just be at stores... As long as it comes to my home it doesn't matter to me.
So other than the issues with outright returns, do you give anything else up buying from a non-corporate store? I've only ever bought from the ATT store so don't want to get surprised by something if I buy one of these from Radio Shack.
