curious about this, as it might be a deal breaker for me.
thanks!

No, but NoLED (app) seems to work pretty well for the Charge even though it was developed for the Galaxy S line. It basically keeps your display on and displays colored squares or icons when you have a notification. Since the display on the Charge/Galaxy S phones only turn on the pixels they need it doesn't really hurt your battery life.

NoLED is awesome thanks for the tip I was using handcent and its reminders to make up for no LED notification on this phone this does it much much better!
I actually like NoLED better than actually having a LED notification!
How do I get NoLed to recognize the non-gmail email app? It updates gmail messages fine, but I'd like to add my other email to it as well.
I swear Samsung is retarded for not including it.

Why, we have a notification LED. I loved BLN for my Vibrant, but I don't see how it is needed here.

That's what they mean.
Notification light within the speaker
Is this what you're referring to?
It only shows up if i have the charger plugged in. Orange when charging and green when charge complete.
Shouldn't this be where your alerts are shown too? I have them set up via this menu:Settings > Display < Notification flash , however i never see any light come on when i have new messages.
Won't work, fascinate had an amoled screen which o believe can turn on individual pixels. The tbolt has an lcd screen which uses a backlight which only lights up the whole screen

He's referring to the backlighting on the soft keys, not the actual touch screen.
This would be great if it's possible. The notification LED is horrible on the TB.
Backlight support, if I remember correctly, has to be built into the kernel... I've only used it with Nero rom on the Samsung Vibrant, never on an HTC device. If you don't like the notification lights on the Thunderbolt, you can download NOLED app from the market... It works well on phones I've tried that have no notification lights like the Nexus S...

Hmmm... never heard of that app. Will check it out. Thanks man!
bumping this hoping its possibile now
now that the source is out
I use an app called "Flashlight Alert" from the market or can be found on the XDA forum.it uses the LED to alert you of email, text, google voice and calls. It's free and doesn't require any additional addons.off that does catch your attention then nothing will. I even used it on my Xoom.
try "missed message flasher" it flashes the backlight whenever you get a new message. it can repeat until you check it or you can set time limits. tons of options and works for all notifications.
If you're rooted there is an app called light flow that works very well. Makes the led notifiers actually serve a purpose.
Am I missing something, but I can't find how to enable notifications for missed email or calls. Does this feature exist?
I surprised no one seemed to bothered by lack of led notification... This was the most useful feature in N1

Actually I'm very bothered by it, but knew about it going in. I just don't think any phones are going to have that magic trackball or led notification anymore.
Apparently there's a mod for the Optimus 2x that enables the soft keys at the bottom of the phone to light up as notifications, but it hasn't been ported to the G2X yet.
Well, there might be no dedicated LED, but there are those touch buttons, they should do the trick. As a matter of fact there is an app Touch LED Notifications (BETA) 0.3, but it appears a bit buggy still.
been using touch led beta 0.3 for two days. so far it's workin great!

Yep, touch led beta 0.3 works fine for me for 2 days now.
I can not find a download link on that page to save my life. Do I need to register?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
does the led button app drain your battery life? doesnt that unsleep the phone?
There is also an app in the market called noLED that works awesome.
Noled is great for amoled screens to my knowledge. On amoled you can light up a specific led whereas on LCD you still turn on the entire backlight.
From author's description the app processes notifications only when they are received and the phone is awoken anyway. You can also set timeout after which the less stop flashing (I set it to 3 hours for example.)

The 2x touch LED app has been working for me for almost 2 days now w/no apparent issues.
Touch LED Beta 0.3 working great here! Haven't tested noLED from market but it's meant for AMOLED screens whose black pixels do not consume power. If you use noLED for notifications to display on your LCD screen, it will be like leaving the whole screen on any time you have a message.
Yea 2x touch just pulses your capacitive buttons at the bottom. Its configurable and works great...
I'd rather light up 4 LEDs then my whole backlight.

Started using the Touch LED app, works great. So glad this came along. Hit thanks button rroyter and biturbomunkie.
Hey can one of you tell me your settings on it?? I want to make sure i have it set up correctly.
Its strange im using google voice for text but everytime i receive one the keys dont light up...is this a bug???
Perfect! Just had to change the file extension from txt to apk for some reason. Works good unrooted.
will this stop my entire screen from illuminating when i get a text? all my other android phones did not have their screens turn on when a text comes through unless i had an sms pop up app.
Need a little help with this, when I DL the .apk on my phone, it turns into a .txt file. What am I doin wrong?

Since Charge does not have a dedicated notification LED for new message,vm,missed calls etc like HTC Phones, is it possible to make the lights of the Hardbuttons blink?
Hmm... That's a great suggestion!

Would probably only be useful during nighttime. I cant even tell if they're on during the day...

or, if possible, make the camera LED flash blink. Would probably sap battery but I'm almost positive it can be done seeing as apps like Flashlight + LED exist and even have widgets to turn the LED on with a simple click, even on the home page.
Does anyone know if the noLED app works for the Charge? I had that on my Fascinate and it worked pretty well.

Yes, noLED works.
Does anyone actually use it? I've had nothing but problems with it. The CM notification manager works for maybe 1-2 notifications and it stops working. Lightflow tends to be the same way unless I restart the app. I loved my notification LED on my nexus. Anyone have any solutions?

I'm running synergy and use it all the time, mainly for text messages, that way i can just look my phone and know if i have a text or not
I find it to be helpful, and use it. Running stock still, works flawlessly.
Works fine, other then GO SMS doesn't blink. Lightflow sucks, ate my battery up when it shouldn't be doing it. I would not have gotten this phone if their wasn't a LED, never would know I was called/texted.

Everything works for me, even Go Sms, when using Light Flow. The dev officially got the ins and outs working awhile back and I can modify my colors and see notifications for all my important apps. I've been using that app (full version) for a few weeks and I haven't had any battery issues with Light Flow.

lightflow caused battery issues for me
for about 2 weeks, my phone would not go to sleep as it would always be in partial wakelock.
i used betterbatterystats to get an idea of what was going on, and it pointed out that "alarm manager" was causing the partial wakelock. when i checked out the alarms, lightflow had significantly more alarms running to cause the partial wakelock.
i uninstalled lightflow, and immediately my battery life improved. the difference was huge.
but that was my experience. some people don't have issues with light flow, so give it a try and see how/if it affects you
I had entirely forgotten about lightflow. Used it on my Droid X. But never on my Bionic. Totally forgot I even paid for this app. Thanks for the reminder. Works great. GoSMS by default would mess up the LED color everytime. This makes em proper. Good call. Thanks to you

Light flow was working great for me for a few days last week when I first got it, but since yesterday, it's been keeping my phone awake the entire time and was killing my battery so I uninstalled it. My phone is sleeping normal again. I've just reinstalled it again to see if it'll work normal like before.

Yea, I've heard those issues as well. I was worried about that going into purchasing the app. I'm not sure if it helps but I have Light Flow set for night hours from 12a-7a so might that impact it in keeping my phone asleep? Just a a question I have for those who have tried and noticed battery drain overnight.

On locking the Nexus S screen, it goes to sleep and thus NoLED notifications are not visible at all. On pressing the power button, the screen comes on into the NoLED Notifications screen and I can see the NoLED notifications. However, I'd like the notifications to be visible without needing to press any button. The NoLED FAQ mentions nothing regarding this.
It would be great if someone could give me an idiot's step by step on setting up NoLED correctly on the Nexus S.
I never liked noled because it always worked other than the way it was intended to. My screen would turn on to the lock screen and then go to the led notification. It's also a battery drain. Anyway, I think it might just be the app or a settings conflict.
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda app-developers app
Don't think many people use NoLED on a Nexus S with BLN available. Big battery drain for nothing. *shrugs*
Edit: You do need a custom kernel though.
I haven't used NoLED, but you can get that functionality with CM10 stable. You can use the four buttons as notification led. When the screen is off and you get new notifications, they light up. I disabled it because I don't like being distracted, but it works very smoothly. You would need to root and go away from stock, but I think that's great for more reasons than just this one.
Yeah, BLN. Good stuff.
