Hello All,
Fairly simple question here - just looking for an app recommendation to flash Kernels on the Nexus S 4G. I've always used SGS Kernel Flasher on my Galaxy Tab, but it's non-functional on the NS4G.
Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.
Just install clockwork recovery and flash from there
Yea NYY I was thinking about doing that... I just liked that there was a kernel backup utility in SGS Kernel Flasher... was hoping I could find something like that. But I guess since there is a stock kernel backup in the NS4G "All About" thread I could just do it anyway.
There's an app called Kernel Manager, recently developed by a fellow (evo using) xda er. But DISCLAIMER, not sure if they've added recognition for the NS4G.
Safest way is thru clockwork. Clear cache and advanced - Dalvik cache first. Setcpu or other app to.manage over under clocking.

I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in for those who have had problems with their G2X rebooting or locking up and requiring a reboot. I update daily to the latest Cyanogenmod build and have already been going on strong for 6 days without a single reboot/lockup.
Before this, I was experiencing multiple lockups/reboots throughout the day.
Except for battery life, I'm happy with my G2X now.
Ditto.
CM7 is what brought sanity back to the phone for me.
Only reason I reboot is because I flash the dam thing every night.
Can't wait for the RC or stable release.
I guess I must be a lucky one. I haven't had any reboots or issues like that with my G2x. The only reason I rooted this phone was because I suspected the bloat was causing my Audio to studder. After rooting and installing then Ultimate G2x Rom with faux's stock kernel, I can say this g2x is now one of the best phones I have owned. I can't help but wonder how many issues with rebooting and what not would be solved by removing the Tmobile and LG crapware they put on this phone.

Same setup here and no reboots or freezes or anything like that.
I'm running the stock ROM rooted with the faux kernel and I've NEVER had any rebooting or freezing.

Same with me, stock with faux. I also applied paul's fix.
Are you using the pre-UVed kernel? Did you UV even more? Right now I'm undervolted -25mV in addition to the -50mV in the kernel
The only rom that gave me trouble was the unofficial GB leak. Every few hours the phone would be off in my pocket.
All other roms ran like a champ. Been running CM7 since #0, only straying to try other roms for a day. No complaints.
To OP, CM has always been rough on battery life. Try using another kernel and you should get more life.
Eagles blood 1.0.5 ftwwwwwww... All great roms out
Quick noob question...what do i wipe if I just want to flash a kernel over stock?

yea u would def have to restore your stock nandroid backup, because no one has just the stock kernel from lg u can flash, so yes u would restore the backup, then if u wanted to flash the kernel wipe cache and dalvik then install fauxs kernel and your good.......also and if u dont like it which u probably will, just restore the backup again, and u should really try ebfroyo 1.0.5 it looks just like gingerbread and u have the stock camera app and its so quick, awesome rom
Im def going to give ebfroyo a try! Thanks for the help bro!

I've been searching for gapps froyo with no luck...I'm on my phone and dont have a computer available at the moment, can someone help please? Sorry, thanks!

Yes, i know what the search button is, sucks on ALL forums, including this one.
With that said, is the a flashable DSPManager.zip made for the G2x? because I fell in love with stock 2.3.3 but love DSPManager for the bass boost on my old Aria
Anyone have it or a link? because the one i flashed on my sensation won't work on my g2x :/
Yes, it works on any 2.3.3+ rom. Will not engage on Froyo roms. You can pull it from cm7 or any other rom that includes it. I've seen links flying around for it in some threads and yes a search should find it for you. Start in themes and apps or development.
Thank you! By the way it gives me "Status 0" error when I flash the dspmanager.zip through clockworkmod..

By the way, stock 2.3.3 through the LG Updater.

Don't know, the way I have it is I used Titanium to back it up from a 2.3.4 rom and then when I went to 2.3.3 I just restored it and it works.
Xboarder posted a zip here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15935476&postcount=91
You might try getting it from EB2.3.3 since it's stock in the rom.
As a last resort you can install EB2.3.3 and then use titanium to back it up and then install a new rom and restore.
It installed, but the EQ makes it sound weird and the bass boost doesnt boost
Anyway i can rip it from Trigger and work like it did when i had Trigger flashed?

Use NV flash to get the recovery installed. Flash a custom ROM. I'm using weapon g2x with faux newest kernel myself.

well theres tons you can do. for stability you should flash one of the many fine roms we have in the dev section. since you said its your 1st android phone ill assume you arent rooted. take a look @ this thread to get you started.

Thank you for the link, and one other question, will rooting/flashing it affect the way I have my phone set up and keeping all of my stuff? Like is it restoring my phone?
I would say go for the legendary cyanogen mod first. See the power of android first, realize what aspects are important to you, then maybe try a different rom. Or just stay with CM like so many 100s of thousands of others

1. Changing roms wipe your phone? 2. Whats CM?
EDIT---
Dumb question('s), question has been revised in the first post.
Here's a quick glossary:
ROM: essentially an operating system for the phone. CM7, Miui, Weapon, Eaglesblood, are all ROMs.
Recovery: Recovery mode, accessed by holding power and volume-down while booting up the device. Most notible for ClockworkMod Recovery (abbreviated CWM), a custom recovery mode that lets you do lots of modding-related things.
Wipe: Formatting various parts of the phone's memory, necessary when installing new things. For a run-of-the-mill flash (anything other than a new ROM) just wipe Cache and Dalvik, the latter is under the Advanced option in CWM. For a new ROM, do the above but also wipe Data (factory reset) and System (under Mounts and Partitions in CWM)
Kernel: In the context of phones, this is a system change that lets you undervolt and/or overclock the CPU. Lets you save battery and increase performance respectively.
NVFlash: A tool used to flash CWM onto the phone.
Root: Access to the entire phone's system as opposed to being locked out to part of it as is the default. Lets you run special Root-only apps.
The Android Development board here is pretty definitive as far as roms go, the only significant one not hosted here is Whitehawkx's MIUI port which IMO is better than the one here.

The help is greatly appreciated, I picked some of that up just spending an hour reading up on wiki and android and surfing the threads, but again thank you.
My revised question still stands, what is the BEST ROM out there if there is one, and what is the BEST kernel out there if there is one.

That's like asking what is the best ice cream. Its all a preference. Cyanogenmod is the most popular rom for android and it cones with a kernel. Now try it already.

For me the stability of the phone is the most important, so the appearance of it will come second. I am using a rooted build of gingerbread 2.3.3 and so far it has been working flawlessly, my phone before I flashed it with the rooted ROM gave me like at least 1 problem a day, so far I am clear and it has almost been 24hr. If it stays its course I am not looking into anymore ROM's, if it does show the same signs I will search for the next best ROM.
But again, I appreciate your input, I am keeping an eye on the ROM you named and a few other, cheers
If you need A2DP then go with Weapon, it's based on 2.3.3 and everything works great.

What is A2DP?
a2dp is the ability to stream bluetooth in stero without it music over bluetooth is a no go but you can still use BT for phone calls it will only be in mono. You can still use your phone for music but you have to use this thing called a wire I dont know apparently back in the day you had to use this wire to listen to music throught headphones and speakers. Strange right? Anyway all ROMS that are not 2.3.3 based or 2.2.2 based Like CM7 or eaglesblood that are 2.3.5 do not have A2DP it has something to do with Nivida not releasing the drivers or something like that. It is ashames because Eaglesblood 1.08 is the best ROM ever but it will never be finished same as cm7 till Nivdia starts cooperating. It really was hard going back to wired headphones but eaglesblood is definitly worth it. Hope this helps

It's cool, I have the same question.
hi.
i want to update my cwm from rom.manager but I don't see the infuse in the list of devices. witch shall i choose?
if i must do it manually witch cwm version is the latest for infuse and.where do i download it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
which not witch
also use the i9000 version for the infuse and the ones on rom manager are for use with the stock rom/kernel. it doesn't work on gb at all and red(voodoo) cwm is the preferred version and is only available by flashing a kernel. after you get a working voodoo kernel delete the cwm.zip or whatever it was called on the sdcard.
I'm runing infusion kernel 2.6.35.7
with infused ROM 2.1.0.
so now what? I install de I9000 cwm?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
sorry you misunderstood. you don't. it may be an old cwm in the kernel but it is fully working and stable. there is no way to upgrade it other than supercurio Modding/updating voodoo and it being built into a new kernel.. you have a Rogers device which has gb and can't run the update.zip. use what you have. though since you already have...
though since you have cwm, it might be possible to run the update.zip to get from one cwm to the other.... but there is no reason to do that.
also sorry about the English correction, didn't mean to be rude. now I see you are Canadian and propably speak French. just so you know a "witch" is one of those people they used to burn at a stake for practicing magic or witchcraft, or today it could be a person that chooses Wicca as there religion... "w h i c h" is the "which" you are looking for.
I almost posted this on the stupid questions thread but now im just confused, i successfully rooted my phone on the first try mainly because i keep hearing about this awesome lag-fix, anyways i can't seem to find an up to-date lag-fix, could somebody please link me to an up-to-date thread?
The "lag fix" of yesterday is now incorporated in the custom roms
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Lag-fix is incorporated in the custom roms you install no need to update anything
Sent from my Maybach S 4G
Like the previous guys said, most (if not all) of the custom ROMs come with it. You said you rooted but you didn't mention that you installed a custom ROM. You won't have voodoo lagfix (which is basically just converting a few of the partitions from the rfs file system to the ext4 fie system) if you only rooted.
There are quite a few custom ROMs around. If you don't want to go that route and prefer to keep it close to stock, you can grab on of the custom kernels in the Development thread and install one that has voodoo lagfix.
Let us know if you need help.
