Hi Guys,
I tried to install the Froyo 2.2.1 software to my XT720, and now all it does it loads up an image of a green robot and it won't boot!
I accidentally missed the step where I needed to wipe/factory reset the phone.
Is there a way for me to revert back to the stock firmware or else perform some sort of factory reset?
TIA
Pull the battery & as you put it back/turn on the phone hold in the volume up button. That should get you back into OpenRecovery & from there you can do the Wipe Data / Factory Reset.
I managed to revert to the stock firmware using RSD Lite, and then I re-flashed it to the 2.2.1 system.
Thanks for the quick reply!

Hello all,
I recently botched the install to the Nightly 1.3 (or 13) Cyanogen Mod 7, and when performing a factory reset, the phone simply boots back to CM7. Is there a way to completely erase everything and start back with stock Froyo/Android 2.2?
As it stands, I can't even go into recovery mode from Rom Manager for some reason. It either freezes upon boot, shows an "unpacking" image and goes nowhere, or simply shuts down the phone.
Thank you in advance for your help.
You'll have to flash a different ROM, a factory reset just wipes data.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
you can use odin and your into download mode
tick re-partition、Auto Reboot、F.Reset Time to flash
Hi guys
I have installed Froyo 177 nordic, on 2.51 Eclair using nandroid with fixed sbf. I replaced framework-res.apk with modified one, phone was dead after rebooting.... So i entered bootloader, connected with RSDLite and tried to flash sbf of my original Era PL 2.51 firmware.
And now weird thing. Flashed ok - but it appears after reboot that im back on 2.1 with all things installed but system unusable... And ofc no phone connectivity....
What should i do now? I thought after a clean sbf flash i will get clean 2.51 ROM...
This question is not for dev forum, next time try on general. And this is happening because you forgot to clear cache / wipe data before flash. Just reboot in Stock Recovery (power + vol down) and wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache.
I have flashed my Optimus L7 numerous times now and after flashing the official stock v20D firmware my phone is stuck on the boot logo.
Question 1:
What is the proper way to return to a stock firmware? Do I have to do a factory reset before flashing the stock firmware or after flashing it? What else is needed to completely restore my phone back to the original firmware?
I know how to flash, I am asking this because I'm not sure what other procedures are needed to clean my phone and return it to its original state.
I've had CM10, PAC and various other ROMs on my phone, but currently I'm stuck on boot screen after flashing the original firmware (this has happened before).
Question 2:
What difference is there between a factory reset from the settings menu and the wipe data/factory reset option in the CWM recovery menu? I no longer have CWM now, because I've flashed the original firmware, but neither can I access the phone menus to do a factory reset.
Question 3:
I'd like to reflash my phone properly this time and restore it to its factory condition and clean everything, so maybe the settings in the KDZ program have something to do with it? If yes, then what mode should I choose (DIAG or EMERGENCY)?
Thanks.
Hello everyone I am scared I bricked my phone.
So I tried installing a rom and did a factory reset deleting everything (including the OS). I did root the phone but something went wrong so I factory reset it. Now when I press the power button I get the "google" black screen and nothing. I then shut it down and went to the bootloader. I stupidly forgot to recover my old stuff like an idiot and now the phone has OS.
Can you help me with a step by step guide to restore this phone?
Flash the factory image to get it back to stock (see nice, big sticky thread in General), then try again

Factory reset is a misnomer, as it does not restore the phone to its factory state. All factory reset does is erase the data partition (along with cache and internal storage obviously). Any changes you make to the system ROM, kernel, recovery, etc. persist after a factory reset. The only way to restore the phone to its factory state is to flash the factory image. Refer to the tutorial to flash the factory image. Next time do your homework before you start tinkering.
My phone is being slow lately so I've decided to do a factory reset. I own a Moto g xt1032. I did some stuff with ROMs but they didn't work and I gave up about that.
Whenever I try to factory reset via settings my phone shuts down and goes into some menu (forgot the name). I have the options recovery factory barcode etc. But my phone didn't factory reset or anything.
Then I read I need to go into recovery mode and choose to wipe everything. As always whenever I try to start recovery mode it just says "boot up failed"
I just want to reset everything and I don't need to backup as I don't really have anything special on here.
Thanks in advance
Are you still running a custom ROM? If so, a factory reset will not put you back to stock - it will only remove personal data - because ROMs modify a different partition. If you want to return to a factory state, you will need to flash a stock rom. I would flash these stock zips through recovery, for which you can get downloads and install instructions from here.
